On a friend's recommendation, my wife and I went to Kindred Spirits for an early dinner/hang-out. They are located on a great little street in a mixed shopping/business/residential area local to us. They have a nice interior build-out with a huge wine bar, but it was a nice evening and we elected to sit on their spacious patio. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by Sarah, who is the bartender and also manages a couple of nights a week for the owner. Sarah is super friendly, explained the menu and provided great table service. They have a large wine selection. My wife ordered a chardonnay and I stuck with an Arnold Palmer. We ordered their bruschetta appetizer, served as six pieces of toasted bread and the expected toppings. It was a perfect start to our meal. We were not super hungry, and selected a three-cheese charcuterie board. You are able to select your cheeses, and Sarah again helped us make our decision. It was perfect for a summer-weather afternoon (although in March) and we chatted, had our drinks and picked at the board until it was gone. During our meal, Sarah was very attentive to our needs. My wife tried another chard, and we ordered their banana dessert, which had great flavor and was a nice end to the meal. This is a great place to quietly enjoy some wine, beer and food. We recently went here with a small group of people. I think bringing several other people is the way to go if you want to try many different of the small plate items - which is what we did, Everything was very fresh tasting. We liked some items better than others The charcuterie plate was nice because you could customize it with what you wanted on it. It was great to be able to try new cheeses ! I was not a huge fan of the roasted tomatoes and burrata. The burrata was roasted with the tomatoes - and i did not like the hot cheese and the other people in my party felt the same way. We would have rather had the roasted tomatoes served alongside the burrata The sliders were tasty - I wish they had not been well done I do want to go back and try some more items - they have larger plates as well if you are more interested in a meal. I'd have to say the Sancere white wine was my favorite! I especially loved the cozy ambiance and chic feel of the spot. If I were to ask you to picture the most elegant and sophisticated wine bar anywhere on earth, you might think of, oh, I don't know, La Compagnie St Germain in Paris or Oscar Wilde in New York or even Wally's in Beverly Hills. You probably wouldn't think of one in Valencia, would you. Well, I have been to all of the above and I am telling you, you would be missing out on a one of a kind, out of this world experience that can be had any day of the week at Kindred Spirits, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency. No, I didn't expect it to come anywhere close to the stratospheric experiences you could have were you to choose any wine bar you fancied, but, the minute I got inside, I knew I was in for an unforgettable experience that I will want to repeat. First of all, it's downright beautiful. Flawlessly decorated with a chic living room vibe with just the right elements to suggest a curated museum-level sensibility. See my pictures as well as all the others here on Yelp. I spent the entire time noticing little details like the plush velvet banquet, the clubby wing back arm chairs, the art deco artefacts and furnishings, paintings, sculptures, even the ceiling lights were unique and obviously carefully selected. And then there is the stupefying wine and spirits menu that goes on and on. I rarely drink anything alcoholic but I couldn't pass up a taste of one of the exquisite sparkling wines that caught my eye. There is a full range of everything. If you really must have beer, it's there, but! For heaven's sake, try something elevated -- ask for recommendations. You won't be disappointed. However, the star of the entire experience is the menu. Now, remember, I am a lifelong vegetarian. I had fun limiting myself to four choices -- I could have had more were I not on a perpetual diet. You can see what we ordered in my photographs. Each dish was superb, really, first in class. Nonetheless, take a good look at my photographs of the Autumn Apple Tarte -- it is the g.o.a.t., believe me. Not only did it taste celestial but notice the tiny flowers? The chef, Priscilla, is a highly skilled and trained artist, her medium just happens to be delicately flavored and arranged plates of heaven. And Sarah, our attendant took a concierge approach to caring for us. A cosmopolitan playlist provided a lyrical backdrop that just made everything flow like silk. Parking is easy, simply use the Hyatt Convention Center parking lot adjacent to a verdant golf course or their garage, for free. There are two main rooms and we asked for the "lobby"-like large room with a giant table that we had all to ourselves, given we were there in the late afternoon on a Sunday. Even so, clientele were coming and going. It was the golden hour and we were draped in a warm light and cozy but uplifting spirit. The entire experience was flawless. And the tab? Ridiculously reasonable. You may not be headed to Rodeo or Saint-Germain-des-Prés or West 27th street any time soon. So, instead, treat yourself to this epic wine bar. We came here for dinner on Friday and came back on Sunday for brunch. The service is amazing. The ambience is cozy. The service is perfect. Most importantly the food is insane. We tried the meatballs, marinated cucumbers, lasagna and the ceviche for dinner. Everything was genuinely 10/10. The brunch food was next level. My friend ordered the shrimp & grits, I had the breakfast burrito and we shared the banana bread (which, by the way, is two large slices with fruit and a little caramel on the side) for Sunday brunch. We made a reservation at Kindred Spirits Wine Bar as soon as we learned it existed, any place that has a cheeseboard is a place that I want to go to and eat the cheese at. That doesn't mean that it's going to be good, but in this case it was really good. It still has that new restaurant vibe. Everything is clean, the staff is really attentive. There are lots of seating options, including tables and seats at the spacious bar, and a separate room as well. My wife and I sat at a table near the bar, the place wasn't packed on a Thursday night so we probably didn't need a reservation, but never a bad idea to have one. We had a flight of red wines, our favorite... And they were especially accommodating, giving us tastes of some of them before the flight came out so we could make the best possible choice. That was very generous of them, considering that the wine-tasting glasses are about the same size as the flight glasses. There are great and unique vegetarian options on their food menu, including the Podi Fries - perfectly cooked skin-on french fries coated with Indian seasoning. These were delicious we would come back just to eat these again. My wife and I also shared truffle Arancini, coded fried rice balls on a marinara sauce... A classic Italian dish, again delicious. And we had the Grilled Romaine with Avocado and Cotija cheese - Nice looking dish with little tortilla strips on top... Not my wife's favorite iteration of this kind of dish, but we both generally liked it. There are a slew of other vegetarian offerings, including Shuka, soups, and salads, flatbreads, and other small plates, such as brussels sprouts and a creamy Barada dish. The kindred lasagna looks pretty good too, so there are lots of opportunities, as vegetarians to come back try something different and have more of their quite extensive wine collection. Sight unseen, my son asked me to arrange a "Night Before the Wedding" event for 60 people at Kindred Spirits. It was a risk, but one worth taking ... EVERYTHING turned out absolutely perfectly. We had a separate area for ourselves, as well as the outdoor seating. The ambiance was lovely and very relaxing. There was a partial lunar eclipse that night, which thrilled the guests sitting in the patio. Dianne was super helpful and patient in helping me arrange things, and keeping things moving smoothly at the event. There's a catering menu for large events with a variety of food. Our guests raved about how delicious everything was. All the staff was so attentive and refilled as needed. Because I wanted beverages, Dianne suggested white and red sangria (amazing!) in self serve containers, with water and tea as well. Since it was the bride's grandmother's birthday that night, Dianne even brought a cake and candles out to surprise and celebrate her. I had expected people to come and go during the four hours we had scheduled. Almost everyone stayed until the end. That says a lot about what makes Kindred Spirits so great ... it makes you so comfortable, you feel right at home. The outdoor seating is the perfect choice on a balmy September evening. They offer lounge seating and regular tables for 4. We enjoyed intimate lounge seating with a lower table and the service, wine selection and food options provided the perfect setup for us to catch up with our daughter. We started with a bottle of Prosecco. For Happy Hour, they offer vegetarian samosas that were the best appetizer to pair with our bubbles. It was Tapas Tuesday!! A Disappointing Experience from the Moment We Walked In. My husband, adult daughter, and I decided to check out a new wine bar on Saturday, April 5th. We were genuinely looking forward to ordering a few wine flights and sampling some of the food--especially the arancini and other small plates. The venue looked promising from the outside, and we hoped to enjoy a relaxed afternoon on the patio. When we arrived, the place was nearly empty--only two patrons sat at the bar. We requested a table for three on the patio, as my daughter had her 10 lb. miniature poodle with her. The woman who greeted us--whom we later learned was the owner--made an immediate and unpleasant impression. Her demeanor was cold and visibly irritated, and frankly, she came across as rude and unrefined. Without a smile or even basic courtesy, she told us we could sit wherever we liked and handed us menus, stating a server would be right with us. Shortly after, the server arrived and informed us that dogs were not allowed on the patio unless they were service animals. I found this surprising, given we had already been seated and nothing was mentioned beforehand. I responded that it seemed to be the restaurant--not the building--that had this policy. She replied, "Maybe down the road, the policy will change." I told her it didn't matter--because we would not be coming back. I was baffled as to why the owner even bothered seating us if she had no intention of allowing us to stay. Her attitude made us feel unwelcome from the start. My daughter, who lives in Beverly Hills, noted that her well-behaved poodle is welcome at many fine dining establishments--including Michelin-starred restaurants. Yet here we were, at an empty wine bar, being treated like an inconvenience. The whole experience was disappointing and frankly appalling. Given that we've frequently driven past this restaurant and noticed it empty, we thought perhaps we'd give it the benefit of the doubt--despite hearing from locals that the food was subpar and the service was lacking. Unfortunately, those warnings proved true. We are the kind of clientele any upscale establishment should want to attract--respectful, enthusiastic, and open-minded. The owner's rude and classless behavior not only drove us away, but reaffirmed what we've heard: this restaurant lacks the warmth, hospitality, and professionalism necessary to survive in this industry. We left and went to the Newhall Press Room, where we were warmly welcomed, treated with respect, and enjoyed a lovely experience--everything we hoped this visit would be. Sadly, I agree with the locals: this place will not last. The owner seems entirely out of touch with what it takes to run a successful business. It's unfortunate--but not surprising.
