My partner and I live in Santa Clarita and often go out for drinks, appetizers, and dinner. I was thinking the other day that I had not been to The Social in many years and I didn't really remember what I liked about it, but I love a good martini, so we decided to go tonight. The martini menu is large...it's the Egg Plantation omelette menu, but for martinis (iykyk). I love a martini that's on the sweeter side, usually a lemon drop, and I asked the bartender what she would suggest. I like trying new things. She didn't really help me with my question, but said that the orange martini I was thinking about would be good. It was extremely sweet! I do like a sweet martini, but I also like fresh juices in my drinks. It was nothing extraordinary, just average, which kind of surprised me for a place that sells itself as a martini bar. We also ordered some appetizers and, honestly, everything seemed like it was the same color...nothing fresh or unique or delicious. When a guy came out, who I later figured out was the manager or owner, he kind of said hello to us and then spent a lot of time talking to every other table at length. We are a gay couple, and I don't wanna go out on a limb to assume reasons why he didn't speak to us, but it did leave us wondering. Also, I'm usually someone who will have a minimum of two drinks, but we were not comfortable in the setting, nor was anything so compelling that I had to have another drink, so we quickly paid our check and left. When we left, we were still in the mood to have a drink and hang out somewhere, so we went to one of our favorites, Old Town Junction in Newhall. What a difference! The staff are so friendly with everybody who enters, the drinks are unique, fresh and delicious, and the food is inspired. I had a drink there that was not only delicious but also supported St. Jude's Hospital. And I had a corn risotto that was fresh and delicious. We had great conversations with the bartenders and with other people at the bar. We left feeling a sense of community. We made reservations and we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. We were a party of 6, celebrating my Bday. It had been a while since we'd dined here and we were very happy they are still around. They are hidden behind an auto parts store in a strip center. Anyway, we started with martini's and appetizers. Apple martini, porn star & bloody goose were our martini starters. We shared an artichoke and bruschetta. Our main course choices were Lobster Bisque & Prawn Cocktail, for my pregnant granddaughter. No martini's for her. My grandson had another artichoke to go with his caesar salad. He was not feeling 100%. The rest of us had actual delicious meals: Jambalaya, short rib ravioli, lobster ravioli and gnocchi with a chicken breast and pesto sauce. We then had another round of drinks. My husband changed to wine, but our youngest granddaughter and I got the Svedka Razzberry Lemon Drop Martini. The Social is known for its martinis. They have around 90 on their martini menu. We were all very happy with our good and drinks. We were wondering why we hadn't been there more often. The waitress brought me a little tiramisu with a lit candle. We had already been passing our martini's around, for tasting, so we did the same with the dessert. Nice ending to our dinner. My husband and I absolutely loved our meals at the Social. I had the Lobster ravioli which was decadent. My hubby had the grilled artichoke & the sword fish. Happened to be in the area and celebrating our anniversary. Looked up "fine dining" and Social came up. A little more relaxed than fine dining, but amazing. Service was outstanding. Our waiter timed our meal perfectly, kept our glasses full and overall pleasant. The bacon wrapped scallops were delicious, with a touch of wasabi. I had the lamb - cooked perfectly. We have gone to the Social on and off for years. Last night we took a friend out for dinner. Service was great! Unfortunately the food was not. My wife ordered the Lobster ravioli in a brandy cream sauce. I ordered the baked penne. They both came with the same tomato sauce. The raviolis had little if any lobster and it was not a brandy cream sauce. My pasta was OK but not what I have had before. There were only a few people in the restaraunt. So lucky. Patrick called us about a cancellation on Valentine's Day. We with friends and we were all in heaven. The service was great and everything we ordered was excellent. I love sauces and man they didn't disappoint ! We all shared the Bacon Scallops. The Lobster Bisque had a perfectly consistency and flavor. Came here for happy hour the other day for the first time and it was great. They have tons of food and drink options. The inside is smaller but can still be great for groups. They have tables and booths. There is also tall/bar top seating if you want to enjoy there. They have so many different martini selections and blue cheese stuffed Olives for a dirty martini. So yummy the service was great and very fast. We got a few different options off the happy hour menu. Everything was good and made fresh which was nice. I don't know why we don't go here more often. This is only our second visit and it was just as good as our first one last year. The atmosphere, and background music, have a 1980's theme. Our server, Jennifer, was an absolute pleasure. She was friendly, attentive, and had a great sense of humor. I hope she's there the next time we go. We had The Social Salad (with blue cheese crumbles, almond slivers, and an amazing raspberry vinaigrette) and the Lobster Ravioli, which was absolutely delicious. I also tried a Blondie Martini which was sweet and very strong. The dessert is generous and rich without being too sweet. I wish I could remember what we had (something with berries that was like a moist scone, only bigger.) This evening definitely deserved 5 stars. read more

What a surprise! The Social is a world class restaurant in the SCV. Who knew? After living here for decades and not even having it on my radar, some friends suggested we meet there for an early dinner. With no expectations, save my concern that there was little for a ride-or-die vegetarian/vegan, we entered to find a bustling, cheerful, pretty restaurant with subdued but just right lighting and European impeccable service. I found the gnocchi dish that typically comes with chicken and asked for the latter to be omitted and the server graciously accommodated without blinking an eye. I started with the caprese salad that was beautifully arranged and perfect. The table was given a basket of fresh bread, butter, and a mound of olive tapenade. With each course came fresh plates and silverware. Our server slipped in and out wordlessly, smiling and professional, the whole time. No one rushed us as we lingered over each course and chatted, catching up and engaged in a lively and lighthearted but sincere conversation about a range of topics. A tray of delectable desserts was shown to us, each looking more enticing than the other. Our companions chose the carrot cake and we were given the chance to sample it. Flawless! Next time, I will save room for dessert. When the tab arrived, it was well below what some places would have charged for the equivalent quality, ambiance, and service, as well as patience with us on a very busy night (the place was packed the whole time). It was a bit noisy but that could just be because it was filled to overflowing with diners who know how special The Social is. If you are an omnivore, you should rush here to try dishes that this chef creates to perfection and are only mundane in most places that serve those same items. Made a reservation here for a surprise Valentine's Day dinner. I was not expecting such an excellent all around experience. From upon arrival to closing out the check, everything was everything. I requested the corner table. The red table clothes stood out an Gabe a room a romantic vibe. Chelsea was our hostess for the evening, she provided such professional and attentive service. After reviewing the extensive cocktail menu of 85 drinks, I ordered the Makers Mark Old Fashion and a Jolly Rancher for the lady. For starters, my wife had the Lobster Bisque and the Apple Salad for me. So tasty and fresh. It was larger than I expected. For the main I went with the Chilean Sea Bass. It was absolutely delicious. It's a special entree on the menu, only served on occasions. Last but not least I rounded the night off with a crème brûlée. I prefer more crusty topping but it was really good. First time here and The Social extended my expectations. Jennifer (our waitress) was professional, nice, and knowledgeable about the food. I love this place so much, that I want to come again in the near future. Had a wonderful time at this hidden gem, after looking for multiple places to enjoy dinner we stumbled at The Social. Our waitress Nicolette took really good care of us, our drinks were never empty and she was spot on with her recommendations. So many MARTINIS!!! It was fun trying out a couple of martinis. The names of some of them might make you blush when ordering, but they tasty! My husband and I came when they opened and apparently reservations are a hot thing here. We were actually sat right away, but if we had came in a bit later we may have had to wait or come back another time. So definitely call ahead! Our server was very sweet and helpful with recommendations. As for our food everything was delicious! We both enjoyed what we ordered. We shared the artichoke and the scallops appetizers. I ordered the lamb and lentil soup and my husband had the ravioli and a salad. We also ordered the salmon to go for our son and he enjoyed that as well. The only thing I didn't care for was the hostess. Her demeanor changed when we told her we didn't have a reservation, but seated us right away and then when we left both my husband and I looked at her and said goodbye as we walked past her and she completely ignored us, didn't bother looking up to acknowledge us at all! She just kept her head down looking at her phone or possibly her tablet. That was very rude behavior on her end. She was very unwelcoming for no good reason. Decided to come here last minute for a birthday dinner. This was a very cool find. Ambience: Relaxed but feels upscale. Booths, tables and a bar. The bar is a bit separate from most of the seating area. They were playing the baseball game without sound while we were there which was nice. Especially because I lived the music they were playing. Low-key 80's pop hits that just brightened the mood each time I'd hear another song. The Staff: The gentleman seating us was friendly and introduced himself as the owner. He would occasionally check-in with us throughout dinner which was nice. Our server was warm and friendly and efficient. The Food: Oh the food. The bread provided was very good, however, it was served with a tapenade that tasted like just the right mix of tomato and olives that was delicious.The menu had enough variety that I had a hard time choosing between three options: The Steak Au Poivre, Filet Mignon Béarnaise or the Gnocchi with Blackened Chicken. I went with the Gnocchi and it didn't disappoint. It was SO SO good! We also ordered the Creme Brûlée for dessert and they graciously gave us a free Tiramisu with a birthday candle. This is another strip mall hidden gem. If you like martinis, this is the place for you as they are known for the quality and variety of martinis they serve. They have over 80 different martinis on their menu. Even though I usually get wine from their nice wine selection, I have tried the Cajun Martini which was delicious. The service is always friendly and usually pretty fast. The food is not inexpensive, so expect to pay a few dollars here. Most of the food is well worth it. I have had the steaks and they are top notch. The pasta dishes are also well worth the price. The Oso Buco is a must order, as is the Jambalaya. Today I started with an asparagus soup that was really tasty. My main dish was the Swordfish Piccata, with wild rice and steamed broccoli and carrots. The rice and vegetables were perfectly cooked and devine. The swordfish was good, but I have had better. The sauce saved the fish from being an average meal. I will definitely be back. read more

We just had a really enjoyable evening and a great meal at The Social. I hadn't been there in a few years. Last time I was there, it was good as well, but they are on the other side of the valley for us, and not that it's too far, they're just not in the front of my mind. We'll change that tonight. The restaurant has a nice vibe, although maybe a wee bit too crowded. They offer 100 different martinis, so the artwork around the dining room reflects that. We reserved a Saturday night table through Open Table. They were busy, even at our 6:30 arrival time, but we were seated immediately and saw a server immediately. Bread and an excellent olive tapenade were tabled and he took our drink order. Sue ordered her Grey Goose martini, extra chilled with a lemon twist, and it was "perfect". I ALMOST dinged them a star for my Old Fashioned...I'm not sure they got the sugar cube and bitters right (or at all) and it deserves a dark cocktail cherry, not a maraschino. The rye whiskey was good, though, and I enjoyed the drink. We ordered their bruschetta appetizer, and it was amazing. The bread was soft and their was just the right taste of garlic and feta cheese. We also ordered French onion soup, which was pretty good. My New York Steak au poivre was cooked perfectly and had excellent flavor, along with the roasted potatoes and vegetables. Sue ordered the halibut, which she said was cooked exactly right and she enjoyed. Overall, they have a very balanced menu and it's tough to make a choice. For desert, we split their lemon cake, which was fresh and flavorful, along with a decaf for me and a cappuccino for her. Service was excellent the whole evening, and it's nice to see and talk to the owner of the establishment, as he was working the room, clearing tables for his staff, etc. Whether you're looking for a drink or full dinner, I'd recommend them. We left very disappointed. We went to The Social because they listed Halibut as a menu item when I checked online only to discover that they no longer offer it and it's been removed from their menu. We left because we specifically went there for the halibut. The server was very nice and apologetic that the website hasn't been updated for the change. So, if you're going there for halibut - be warned that it is not on the menu even thought it's listed on the website. read more

Does this place have an actual chef??? If so they need a new one. Immediately. The menu is outdated, unoriginal, and completely lacking in sophistication. All of the items are generic and nothing even looks appetizing on the menu. Ok, so ahi salad it is. Some spinach leaves and diced tomatoes covered in a wasabi dressing that was so overpowering it was like spooning wasabi into my mouth. We also tried the lobster ravioli. Don't do it. You will throw up. Or leave hungry because you can't eat your meal. Please see photo. I'm positive it was frozen ravioli of some sort just buried in a gross cheese sauce to try and hide the fact that it is a seafood imitation ravioli. Not edible. I cannot believe they serve it to paying customers. I'm shocked to have encountered food this bad in Los Angeles County. There is what appears to be an impressive martini menu- poorly made drinks that are too sweet and clearly use bottom shelf liquor and mediocre ingredients. My drink was gross. The martini selection is enormous with 84 options, plus they customized one for us as well. Everyone is so nice, helpful and provides superb service.
