A small family get together at a wonderful setting that turned horribly wrong due to lack of management skills. Rude customers behind us that made a scene as we exited, and with a lack of basic food service industry management skills from the night manager it turned out to be an extremely horrible experience. This place was highly recommended from family members who have a summer home in Maine and have many family functions and get togethers at this location. Unfortunately the manager was inexperienced and unable to handle the situation....maybe he would be better off at a local McDonald's where the interaction with the customers probably more his speed. If this place was cheaper, I would have rated it a little higher. I went to MC for lunch with two co-workers the other day, and was very disappointed. Our server was friendly and efficient, but the food simply didn't deliver. We ordered the crab cakes and pork spring rolls for appetizers. The crab cakes had decent flavor and the remoulade was tasty, but nothing stood out. The pork rolls were terrible. I've had better at Chinese take-out restaurants. The pork had no flavor, and the sauce was flat - typical soy-based dipping sauce. For entrees, I ordered the kobe beef burger, and my co-workers ordered chowder and the lobster salad. The burger was decent, but definitely not worth $19. The kobe beef was greasy and didn't pack any more flavor than good ole ground chuck. The crowning achievement of the afternoon, however, was the sweet potato fries. They were so overcooked they were almost black and unrecognizable. Any flavor that they did have was choked out of them. The chef should have been embarrassed to send those out to a guest. The lobster salad was well below average. The lobster meat was tough and lacked flavor. The same goes for the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Coming in a close second to the sweet potato fries was the housemade mayo. It looked like polenta it was so congealed, and it tasted nothing like mayo. It was made with EVOO, which overpowered any other flavors that should have been present. My boss' chowder was average, but not worth the money. Desserts were forgettable, and our cappucinos were lukewarm. Considering the reputation that precedes this place(Arrows restaurant), and the price points on the menu, I expected a lot more than what I received. read more

We have been going to M C Perkins Cove for many years, we went for dessert and coffee. The dessert we ordered was peach crepes with a raspberry sauce. This was awful, small six inch crepe with a tablespoon of thinly sliced peaches and smear of raspberry gastric for $9.50 YIKES! Not only over priced but not good either. Sad that a once good restaurant has come to this. We will not return. read more

What a scam. My wife and I took two relatives from out of state to this restaurant last fall. They came from NC and we drove up from Boston. In a nutshell, it was overpriced, the food was below average and the service was below any standards commanding prices on par with Boston or New York. read more

The view doesn't get any better. The Caesar salad was very good, but the portion was a bit small. The fish and chips were good. They weren't greasy, and the fish was moist. The mussels lacked flavor and weren't that plump. They are stingy with the bread. The Med. platter was just fair. Share one of the pizzas as after a while, the taste is too much. Well, very mixed feelings about mc perkins cove. While it does have a few things going for it, view/location, and a nice looking menu. The thing is, the service is lackluster at best. The chefs seem more concerned with finding boys with nice faces than finding attentive, focused, polite servers. I have been here on a few occasions with guests and had an excellent dining experience. Other times, service was bad, food was just okay. Today was my last time in this restaurant. My guests and myself were greeted and seated. Then we waited for waaaaay too long, then I flagged someone down. Although apologetic, the waiter took our order. Then the food took waaaaaay too long to reach us, In a half empty restaurant. The french fries were not hot, mortal sin if you ask me..... It wasn't anything you couldn't get at any number of places much cheaper and with better service. Very dissapointing. I am in the culinary field and there is a saying...... My husband and I were in Ogunquit with another married couple for the 4th of July weekend last year and wanted to go out somewhere to watch the Red Sox game while having lunch. We were in Perkins Cove and decided to try MC since we had heard it was owned by the same group that owns Arrows. In retrospect, we should have been suspicious considering it was a holiday weekend and the was restaurant was practically empty. We all ordered food and drinks and watched the game at the bar upstairs. We were very much enjoying ourselves and were the only group upstairs when we were told that we needed to keep it down as we were too noisy. I suppose we did seem loud since the tv was on mute and there was no background music but we were truly the only group upstairs at all, so we were confused as to why we were being asked to be quiet. We of course apologized and made efforts to be quieter (admittedly, my husband has the loudest laugh). Again, about a half hour later, our server again informed us were were just too loud. Since we were so embarrassed we paid and left. Later that weekend we were at another restaurant for dinner and told our server about our poor experience at MC. He started to laugh, because apparently this is not surprising behavior from the staff there at all. As adults in our 30s we usually don't get admonished like children for our loudness. We like to frequent upscale restaurants in the Boston area with our friends and have never had any other complaints about our behavior, thankfully. We were completely horrified and were made to feel so poorly by the staff at MC. We'll never go there or to any of the Mark and Clark restaurants in the future; the visit was so very disappointing. I can't even comment on the food because the memory I have is dominated by a feeling of shame. I'm sure it was fine. read more

Dined @ MC a few weeks ago and was totally disappointed. I think that they are resting on the beautiful views, and have put less effort into putting out great food. They sadly have removed the Torn Salad from the menu! The salmon was dry and bland. Will find myself @ another "Place" out of the cove for great food on my next visit. read more

Have to say, I never do bad reviews...however, myself and 3 friends stopped in to this beautiful location for a cocktail and take in the view. We were treated like we were a bother the entire time!!! Both upstairs and down! We realize it's the end of the season, and everyone's tired and sick of demanding tourist. We couldn't have been any more kind and happy to be there! Didn't matter!!!! We took 13 college friends to dinner at the end of a short weekend in Ogunquit. We could not have asked for a better venue. Because of the size of our group we were treated to the upstairs dining room which was small but very private. :Some of the specialties were haddock wrapped in bacon and lobster mac and cheese and they were exceptional. The service was what you would expect from a high end restaurant. Don't miss the flavor infused Vodka either. We came with high expectations having eaten here in 2010 and they were surpassed! read more

Great setting and interior, very comfortable ambiance and menu... the tuna skewars we had there last week were absolutely phenomenal.. wine list is pretty uninspiring, but I think that's what they're going for here, everyone being comfortable with good food, good service and great surroundings. The three of us visited MC's for lunch on a recent off-season Thursday afternoon. It was a sunny winter day with snow covered beaches and rocks. We sat by the window (OK, most all seats have a window view) and were promptly brought over water. My wife and daughter ordered the roasted turkey sandwich and I the fried haddock. The food arrived nicely plated and hot. Each of our orders came with sea-salted fries. The turkey was served on delicious sourdough bread with avocado and dill sauce. My fish, more heavily breaded than I care for, came with a very small side of lemon fennel. I would have preferred less fries and more fennel. The service was friendly and attentive. This place has the atmosphere and waterfront view that make for great dining. A great view with good food and service was what the doctor ordered for a mid-winter get away. MC's did not disappoint. read more

I hadn't been to MC's in awhile when a friend suggested we meet for the $4.50 burgers, and for $4.50, they were great! I don't get the presentation using the black "kettles" for fries and onion rings - if it's the presentation you're going for, I would suggest more bountiful servings. Romaine on the side was totally wilted..maybe spent time under a hot lamp? Host, pls check your menus daily before handing them out. Mine was torn, had obviously been wet a few times and had beverage stains - not a great first impression. Silverware was dirty. Get rid of the tacky logo'd pint glasses that you're serving your draft beers in. You can't beat the view, but I suggest a better value and dining experience can be had at Cape Neddick Inn. Enjoy the Tavern Room with the great fireplace, excellent food and an owner paying attention to all the little touches. read more

After several dinner time visits In the past few years which were extremely well done,we returned to try lunch. Unfortunately, the server was preoccupied, the food was mediocre...a grilled cheese sandwich which was quite greasy,a salad with supersized chunks of cucumber...the view was still one of the best on this stretch of coastline..but, please, if every dish that leaves your kitchen isn't fully up to par...don't send it out...we'll hope for improvement..sure missed the great way you used to be...we were here 9/26/13. read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant this past Sunday evening. The experience was not what we had hoped for. We felt like we might as well have been at an outdoor dining facility. The noise level in this restaurant was ridiculous, impossible to have a conversation without speaking loud due to the closeness of the tables. We both ordered Salmon; mine was OK, have had better but it was OK. My husband's portion was very dark in the middle of the piece of fish. We showed it to the waitress who said she would bring it back to the cook. She came back to say she would be right back with another meal. 15 minutes later, after I was finished with my meal he got his. No apologies for the delay. We spoke to the manager who didn't seem to care and said that his cook doesn't like to waste food so he cooks the belly of the Salmon and that's what he got !! read more

The reviews for this restaurant were so all over the place we couldn't make up our mind whether to go or not. But in the end, we had a fine meal. One of our party of three was late by 20 minutes, and despite how busy the restaurant was they very graciously held our table. We enjoyed a round of delicious oysters, shared some wonderful little crab cakes, as well as a lovely radicchio salad. However, the crudités with lima beans were just odd and flavorless. Entrees were a bit all over the place. The lamb on a bed of lentils was solid, the whole trout was outstanding, while the baked cod and clams took on an unpleasant bitterness. The dessert standout was the strawberry short cake---not too sweet and total New England realness. We had beer instead of wine and enjoyed a great selection. Service was excellent! read more

I think we were disappointed....for the following reasons: (1) The bar so very high, one could not eat at it, nor was it easy to sit at... it's made for very tall people... you feel like a little kid in a high chair and have to tip toe to reach your drink. (2) The bar chairs are so high (renovated to reach the excessively high bar) that a shorter person almost needs a ladder to climb up onto them. Also, they are so heavy and close together, they're hard to move. The bar atmosphere forced us into asking for a table in their dining room--(no wonder only two people were at the whole bar at that time) (4) The dining room was lovely (ocean view...I think we saw the Cliff House from there!) but the waitress fell short. We really weren't very hungry...but we decided we'd start with the "Maine mussels" (we both love mussels from the Vineyard. We thughy that if we still felt like something after the mussels, we'll check out the menu; (5) We told this to the waitress. She responded that we needed to put the entire order in and not wait. We said we didn't know if we'd be hungry after the mussels... she said that they wouldn't put the order in for the 2nd item until our mussels were gone. I'm like, "so why can't we wait to order?" She finally gave in, but that conversation shouldn't have happened. The customer should e the one to dictate what's satisfying (w/o being unreasonable), or why go there? (6) The mussels arrived. The sauce was heavenly. But the mussels had big crunchy white "rocks" (not sand) inside the mussels. We could have easily broken a tooth if we weren't careful. (7) We then later ordered their lobster pizza to split. It arrived,, with nice little chunks of lobster on the very small pizza, but the pizza was cold. And the crust was so soft and not at all crisp. We told waitress that the lobster pizza was cold...should it be that way?" and she said yes, though the sauce on it was just a little warm... it didn't seem right.. (8) We are not big fans of MC...too bad, it's a beautiful place. BUT, IT WAS CLOSE TO THE BEST MARTINI WE'VE EVER HAD... GO AND DRINK AND THEN STAGGER OVER TO BARNACLE BILLY'S FOR MORE RUM PUNCHES! read more

My family has frequented MC Perkins many times over the past 5 years both in and off season and our experience up until this summer has been good. The views are wonderful and the food is typically very good (though certainly not cheap!). Last night we have reservations for 7 people for a family dinner with out of town guests who had recently lost their husband/father. I requested a table upstairs in the bar area as it is more casual. Unfortunately, one member of our party was about 45 minutes late joining us as he had been in a car accident. The host seemed very understanding but that is where it ended. The server was very put out about us wanting to order drinks and appetizers while waiting for our seventh to arrive. She was very unfriendly, made several mistakes with the orders but in an attempt to keep this on keel we kept and paid for the items we received in error. We had to seek her out to order and to refresh drinks. The surroundings were so cramped that everyone had to stand and move every time anyone had to get out to use the restroom. The room was very loud, which was a problem for one of our party who is partially deaf. The party of 3 next to us was apparently very upset with the noise from our table of 7 which was 6 inches from them and literally came over and shushed us (incredibly rude). They then actually got up and clapped and hooted when we leaving (very classy! At that point angry words were exchanged. We had just paid the bill (more than $500.00) including a mandatory 20% tip for very poor service and then were greeted on our way out by a very young and rude manager who told us we had been a problem ( first we had heard of any problem). Apparently having an friendly, animated family dinner with conversation and spending an enormous amount of money is a problem for the MC Perkins management. They did nothing to diffuse the problem which I did not even know existed until we were leaving. If there was a problem, we should have been politely approached before we spent $500.00 for poor service in an very cramped, loud environment. My family has loved this place until this year. It is very sad to see how much the quality of service and management could decline in one short season. We had a similar family dinner last weekend with the same people at another restaurant in Kennebunkport where the setting was equally as pretty, the food as good but with servers and managers anxious to make sure our experience was great. I am so saddened and frankly disgusted with MC Perkins. I guess they don't need patrons willing to spend hundreds of dollars. read more

Had a great dinner. We started with fresh shucked little necks, delightful raspberry vinegarette & onion dipping accompaniment as well as traditional lemon, and a clear vinegar & onion ( nice change from the tomato based cocktail sauces if you are one who likes to step out a bit with your clams). Just eating them right out of the shell was awesome too. Next we shared the clam chowder which was done simply and delightfully with a hint of smokey bacon, more of a thin potato base lightly thickened stock rather than a cream based oatmeal texture that your fork could stand up alone, not that I am showing my preference to the lighter based chowders, but I am in the " make it light and special " versus, make a big heavy clam stew with tons of potatoes, chunky clams and a pound of butter and cream type of a chowder. This was special. Even the way they made delightful croutons out of a house recipe, rather than serving you a bag of commercial oyster crackers on the side, made each spoonful count just a little more. For the main entree, we shared the most wonderful Lobster Mac and Cheese I have ever tasted. Perfectly matched herb crusted topping with a generous portion of lobster and a light cheese that let all the flavors sparkle. The ceramic serving dish was extra heavy, allowing the dish to stay piping hot until you had a chance to get to the end of enjoying your large portion! Nice touch in choosing the right way to serve this delightful pasta and seafood item. The side was a cornbread pudding/brownie kind of concoction, that I would love to try to make on my own as it was delicious and unique. Service was like a flawless ballet performance, not slow, not rushed, but just paced nicely and attentive. Views are great as you look out the windows from every table, but how can you beat looking out over a delight cove on the coast of Maine. Just as everything tastes better when you make it yourself on a campfire, so does every meal eaten overlooking a romantic cove on the Atlantic. Was so disappointed after hearing great things about this restaurant. We were a party of six and although the salads were very good the entrees ranged from mediocre - soft shell crabs - to practically inedible. Duck was a tiny portion, completely dried out and stringy. Steak was tough and a different cut then described- ossobuco and Kobe burger also dry and disappointing. In addition the meal felt rushed. Salads came immediately , entrees as soon as we were done. It felt like they wanted us in and out as fast as possible. All in all I would have expected a better experience. Certainly not worth the $60 per person ( one drink each, no dessert or coffee- we couldn't wait to get out of there) with a $20 tip automatically added to the bill. read more

We stopped for a drink and stayed for a 3 hour dinner! Brian - the bartender - was so knowledgable about the menu - you don't always find that in a bartender. The food was amazing. Fried oysters and crab cakes were the perfect light beginning, the Arrows salad and side of Arrow's tomatoes were as fresh from the garden as they could be. The plank salmon was cooked perfectly. The cod wrapped in bacon was moist and delicious with every bite. The peach (my favorite summer fruit) crisp was the best ending to a fantastic evening. A delightful dinner celebration for our anniversary. Glad we skipped the Lobster Pound this year. read more

I was here for a dinner with a big group in a private party so that is what my ratings are about. The drinks were excellent. Everyone's favorite of the night was the MOJITO. The food was great specially the crab cakes for appetizers. And the view... without a doubt was one of the highlights as well. read more

I actually like MC Perkins better for lunch than dinner especially because of the view which is gorgeous and one of the better things about this restaurant. I usually have a pretty good meal but went today and was totally disappointed. A few weeks ago I had the grilled cheese with tomato soup. It was great with parmesan or asiago cheese on top of the sandwich. Today it was just a processed cheese run of the mill sandwich. I asked why it didn't have the parmesan on top and the girl never got back to me. I was never asked if I wanted more ice tea so would rate the service just ok at best. My husband had the shrimp louie salad and it had less thant 1/2 of a hard boiled egg and was really skimpy with 6 tiny shrimp on it. For the price, we left hungry. Too bad because we always go here when in town and love the view. read more

We brought my father here for his 90th birthday celebration, and dropped a cake off earlier in the day. There were 12 of us and the bill was around $2000 with tip. They wanted to charge us $2.00 for each slice of the cake we dropped off earlier. I went all the way up to even getting the owner out of the kitchen, and he still refused to not charge us to slice the cake. We took the cake back and went to my father's house and ate it there. Ridiculous. I am from NYC and eat out all the time, and this nickel and dime action has never happened there. read more

My husband, daughter and I have been going here for Easter Brunch every year, for the past few years --- we have brunch then do the cliff walk and love it. We had the best table in the place, right by the window with a stunning view. I had a delicious Bloody Mary. Decided to try an app -- the smoked fish, which had half a piece of bread with a tiny amount of fish spread, and lots of arugula -- it was delicious, but for $14 thought there would be more. Ordered my usual, the benedict, and it came out with two tiny eggs that were luke warm, so had it sent back. Came out pretty much the same way again plus the eggs were barely poached. Sent it back, and they got it right on the third try but still could have been warmer. My daughter got the scrambled eggs and I swear there was one egg scrambled, it was tiny. My husband scored with the huevos rancheros, he loved them. Overall, seems like the place is struggling as the portions have gotten tiny. It's too bad because we've always had a good experience here! read more

For a restaurant with the pretensions that MC Perkins Cove has, it falls far short. True, the view is absolutely spectacular, and the young wait staff does a decent job. However, for an establishment that charges Manhattan prices, it does not deliver the goods. The noise level on the evening we were there was deafening. We could not even hear what the waiter was saying in providing some info about the menu. There was a party of 8 sitting across from us that drowned out any hope of anyone else having a conversation. When I requested a quieter table (there were some tables a bit farther away that were not taken) we were told that the large party was going to be leaving soon and that the one table they were willing to offer us was not that much quieter. The large party stayed about another 35 minutes, so there was no respite. When ordering my $31 entrée I was told I could have my choice of starch. When I asked to substitute a veggie for that (the dish came with dal) I was told there would be an $8.50 extra charge. When my lamb shank arrived it was lukewarm and in desperate need of salt. Decidedly amateur management of what is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. read more

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner last night. The Pacific salmon was fabulous with the presentation of various tasting sauces for a pleasant spectrum of palate sensations. Salads, appetizers - Maine crab cake was the best we have ever had - and desserts all prepared and presented to begin and end dinner with wonderful notes. The service was over the top with attentive eyes never missing the opportune time to engage with us during dinner courses. The ocean views ensured an overall memorable dining experience. We vacationed here from Los Angeles where we have plenty of great restaurants - and could not have been happier at MC. The room is wonderful with an even more wonderful view, the service was excellent and informed. Our server could not have been more helpful. Drinks and wine were great. The food was . . well . . beautiful. We shared lobster mac and cheese as an appetizer - spectacular, best we've ever had. The entrees were just great (love that numb and hot sauce) onion rings small, tender, not oily and delicious. We will be back. Don't understand the whiners here complaining about price (reasonable we thought) portions, value or quality - nonsense - maybe they should stick to Red Lobster or some mediocre pound per dollar trough eating buffet. This place is a complete disaster. DISASTER. Service, food, cleanliness... it all left a lot to be desired and left us all with a low sad feeling at the conclusion of our short weekend trip. There are an unspeakable number of restaurant reviews and magazine articles plastered just about everywhere you look... but look closely and you'll come to find that not a single one mentions MC Perkins Cove (... very suspicious...). You shouldn't sit down to filthy silverware and plates at a place that asks you if you'd prefer "still or sparkling water?" ... or anywhere for that matter. If you are looking for a place to indulge all the senses in classic restaurant clichés this will be a great treat for you. The water glasses are those ridiculous curved vessels your trashy friends buy when they are trying to impress people. The menus are like plywood boogie boards and and feature greased stained menus that have all the intentions of being swapped out daily (clearly this menu is not changed daily). Traveling companion ordered oysters and they came perched atop five pounds of chipped ice packed into a porcelain boat (or was it a child's urinal?) After we were able to find something on the menu they were actually able to make (hamburgers...$22) we sipped on our libations and waited for the Tourist gods to punish us further for our transgressions. The trout came and it looked like a turd sitting curled up in a pile of thin sewage (complete with corn!) and then the three burgers which were tasteless and served with onion rings that were so pale they looked like they had merely looked at the deep fried (but bonus points for the giant cauldron they were served in... I guess). Undoubtably one of the worst meals of my life in one of the most beautiful settings on the East Coast. Save your self the Benjamin and go to the other MC in town... McDonalds... you want dinner with a view? Buy a happy meal and bring it to the water and thank your lucky stars you didn't make our mistake. read more
