The atmosphere is a straight up sports pub (Nebraska Cornhusker's bar). Lyon's Pub has a decent amount of seating so we never really had to wait long for a table. Provides a full menu of your typical "American" food and have many brews on tap. I ordered the Rueben twice because it was good! The only downfalls I had were the hours and service. There were several occasions we had to flag the server down to order drinks and get the bill. On Sunday they closed at 6 PM, so we couldn't finish the Saints vs. Rams game, however, the hotel bar had it on. If you're staying downtown, this a good spot to grab a beer, watch some football and mingle. read more

Here on a business trip overnight. Stayed at Embassy Suites next door. This place kind of sucked. I was alone and got a seat at the bar, which is where the locals apparently sit. The bartender didn't recognize me, so he's like I'll be right with you as I sat while he did dishes, made everyone else's drink and had a drink of seltzer himself. Finally I flagged him that wanted a Miller Lite, which he informed me was in a bottle. I was like yes, that's fine, it ain't my first time at the rodeo! For food, I ordered a black & blue burger, with fries, cooked medium. He gave me a wood placard that fit in the groove of the bar for a plate. I love these! It makes eating at the bar soo much easier! The food came out and I looked at the burger. Sooooo over cooked, which for me was fine. But not sure what well done would have looked like. Funny thing is, it was a patty of meat with blue cheese on a rye bun and that was it. No lettuce, no tomatoes, no onion. It was DRY! I put the pickle spear on it and a TON of ketchup to hopefully help. It didn't. It was tasteless. BUT the greasy fries were good. As I drank more, the bartender was nicer. He figured I was a drinker and possibly running up my tab/ tip. But overall the place kind of sucked. There is another bar across the street called Tom's Watch Bar that I wish I had gone to that one. It was a fun environment to be in, the service was fast, good happy hour menu and free popcorn :) it can get pretty busy but if you don't mind waiting for a bit, you would have a good time. I've eaten here on each of my two visits to Minneapolis, including the dinner the evening before I ran the 2010 Twin Cities Marathon (where I set my PR, 3:09), so even though there isn't much to distinguish this place from other pubs, it still holds a fairly dear place in my heart (though it probably should be noted that my heart is extremely expansive and that it doesn't take much for something to endear itself to me). What's great about Lyon's is that it's so large--there's a whole 'nuther room besides the one into which one walks from the entrance. No need to wait for a table on a Friday night, the time of my most recent visit. My food (a BBQ pulled pork sandwich and fries) was tasty (not the best pp sandwich I've ever had, of course, but nevertheless yummy) and one of my dinner companions received the biggest plates of loaded pub nachos that I have ever seen before, which, had I ordered them, would have pleased me greatly. Two downsides to note: the music was extremely loud and the women's restroom, when I needed to use it, was populated by two super drunk chicks who took a long time in its two stalls. It was only 9 pm: take it easy, ladies! All in all, this place is really only two-stars worthy, though, and I plan to consciously avoid ending up here the next time I have reason to visit Minneapolis. read more

I walked in here seeking the Tuesday Taco Deal that City Pages was raving about, the 2 for $4! It's not advertised anywhere as a daily special. Though the waitress was very sweet, I felt that the service was a bit slow (and it wasn't packed by any stretch of the imagination). I had the tacos. They were actually decent, with the exception of the salsa. It was terrible ConAgra tasting paste. The Turtle Cheesecake was good and would be the only temptation for me to come back. read more

I travel the Midwest eating at restaurants weekly. I stumbled upon this place last week. At a glance it appeared to be a happening place. The menu had a good variety of food. It should be noted that I came there twice in one week only due to the lack of other options in the city. While the menu looked promising, the French fries have some room for improvement. With a menu like this I would recommend that they maybe change to a steak fry. This would compliment the wide offering of sandwiches. The current fry being served does not. The chicken sandwich was dry and had the consistency of leather. Every fast food restaurant has a better chicken sandwich. I would closely compare the sand which to something that high school cafeteria would serve. Please don't let this review get you down. Just know that there is some room here for improvement. read more

While using the restroom a manager on duty by the name of Dave entered the stall and tried to accuse us of using drugs. In actuality I had to replace & dispose of my menstrual products. Great place to watch college football games. Typical bar and bar food environment. Nice choice of beers as well. Food was okay and was as expected for this type of place. The sandwiches and burgers were the best choices. A couple of us had the fish and chips and we were very disappointed. Greasy and fries were soggy. Wait staff is very friendly and efficient. Thats the thinnest prime rib I have ever seen and it was nasty. We also ordered some wings and could only get one down. They were not good at all! The price for the food was ridiculous. Their food was mediocre, though we weren't expecting a culinary experience here...it is more of a bar. Our buffalo chicken wrap and Greek salad were fine, but nothing to write home about. My margarita was pretty sweet, and they have a good beer selection. Parking is tricky this area of downtown, so use public transit/Uber if you can. This place was fine until our confusing server experience. Instead of having one server, we had a new one every time we needed something. Great old school bar and restaurant. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The food was quite good and the drinks were well made and tasty. Order an old fashioned- you won't be disappointed. Our server Carley was charming and attentive. She made the evening that much more enjoyable. Even the manager stopped by our table to check in and thank us for dining with them. Service was very unwelcoming. Got my bill but no itemization of the costs so I did not know exactly what I was paying for. And if they included surcharges like so many places anymore. If you're downtown, and need a spot that's a little on the dressed down side just for a simple bite and a drink, I would definitely pick Lyon's pub. Cozy British, or Chicago type bar with a decent happy hour, multiple drink specials, a bar menu, oh and free popcorn. There's even an upstairs dj booth that overlooks the bar for Friday nights, I love how the dj booth is draped in bunting. Yes, this is a sports bar too. Come here before or after a game or a downtown concert. read more

Decent place, the vibe was good and cheery. Just went here for happy hour with the work crew. It's a pretty intimate venue. Wooden counter tops, tables, and floors. We seated ourselves at a nice high table for 6 (we had 9). Our waiter was friendly and gave us time to take a look at the happy hour menu; didn't rush us at all. The happy hour menu is prrretty decent, $4 wells and coors light along with other $4 and $7 appetizers, and $5 wines.! We ended up getting cajun fries, spinach artichoke dip with crispy tortilla, and onion rings. Pretty standard fare. Nothing too wow, but not bad either. Pretty good bar food. I am a passionate lover of anything that contains Buffalo Chicken, so you know I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap. I would give the wrap 3.3/5 stars. They did a good job with the chicken breading and evenly distributing the Buffaloes sauce with the blue cheese. I was only disappointed with how dry the wrap was. My co worker, who also for the buff wrap, noticed the same thing. They give you a large portion of the fries, so I would be mindful as they are very addicting! I would come back to try the fish and chips! FYI if you are a gopher fan, do not go there on a Saturday as they are a Nebraska bar. I went here 3 nights and I genuinely enjoyed the food and the music and the beer. But your bartender the last two nights was a "DICK". He was a middle aged dude with an attitude. I am a 20-25% tipper and I gave him 10. Earlier in the night I met customers at City Works and their service embarrassed you. I don't know if you realize how bad a bartender can affect your business but based on the crowd and how good your location is you are really missing it. You have a great place there with a small crowd so either it is the food or the help and I said the food was good. I hope the owner sees this. read more

Older guy bar tending Tuesday night July 5th was impertinent. The disrespect towards me was so palpable that other patrons asked why he was mad at me. Everyone else working there was pleasant and it's a good bar layout but that older bartender was cantankerous and generally unpleasant. I'm sure it was past his bed time and he was cranky but there's no good reason to treat a person that way. He asked me to move so some regulars could sit where I was sitting and it felt like a demand. Nice place but If some old guy with disgusting teeth is working the bar try Glueks or kierans instead. read more

Loved this place! Okay, I have only been there once time, but it was enough. I love the dark wood of the bar. The staff is great. I interacted with the bartender who was very helpful as well as some of the other staff members. Food was good. I had the Chicken tacos for Taco Tuesday, a side order of fries and had some beer. They have a good selection. Parking in the area is bad, but taking the bus from work or walking when it's nice out is not a problem. It is a Nebraska Huskers bar (which is fine by me), so be aware if you go in on a Nebraska game day that you will see a lot of red. Again, not a problem for me. I've been there on a Saturday night and it's been dead. I've been there on a Tuesday and it's been lively. And, they have that free bar popcorn. It's atmosphere is more old-fashioned. I mistakenly accompanied my husband here, believing we were going to the Lion's Tap-which I've always heard was great. Wrong place. First impressions...cool old bar, great woodwork. The kind of place I would have really enjoyed back in the day. Hubby and I took our two teenagers who were unimpressed with the atmosphere. (But what the hell do they know? They like Chili's.) Our waitress greeted us and immediately I got a b*tch vibe from her. I'm pretty forgiving of wait staff, so I disregarded my instincts and asked her what the soup of the day was. She responded with finality, "I have no idea." Ummmm...you...wanna...check??? My son, who is not forgiving, insisted we leave immediately because of her surliness. After asking her for a couple more minutes, the waitress returned and reported the soup was chicken chili. I asked if it was a white chicken chili and the reply was an icy, yet uncertain..."Yeah, sure." My husband shot me the "just order and get it over with" look, so I ordered a burger and fries. Fries were pretty good, fresh and handcut. Burger was okay, nothing special, nothing terrible. The waiter who delivered the food was great, and more than made up for the chick who didn't seem to want to deal with us. I'd visit again, but only with adult friends. No kids. One other note-not a dealbreaker...but the bathroom was one of the most disgusting lavatories I've ever seen. Seriously. Worse than almost any gas station bathroom. Smelly and filthy...the dust on top of the stalls was inches thick, and a trough in the center was filled with a foulness I don't even want to imagine. The traditional pub where you'll find pub food and drinks. I think we may have had a better experience if we were sitting at the bar, but unfortunately, there wasn't space. Ther service was just fine and my well drink was well, what you'd expect. We ordered the nachos, mozz sticks and wings from the late happy hour menu. The mozzarella sticks were supermassive and very cheesy and crunchy, so needless to say - I was a fan. The nachos were only ok - some of the chips were smothered in cheese wiz while others were dry. There's cucumber on top which felt odd and the jalapenos we ordered on the side were questionable. The wings were just fine. Nothing to write home about, but not bad either. With the number of really great pubs in the area, I wouldn't anticipate going back to this one. read more

We went to Lyons Pub based on seeing online reviews about their burgers and PRE-GAME Twins specials. We went on a nice sunny afternoon prior to the game, there wasn't any open seats outside but we sat next to an Open Window. Tuesdays is also Taco Tuesdays too! I ordered the IDS burger which was fantastic although the fries were the best part. My wife ordered the Fried Tacos which, not only tasted great, only cost $4 for two. Chad our server was very attentive and was the one who recommended the Hard Tacos over the soft, and also the fries. Plus can't beat $3 Coors Banquet and Light Pounders! It was a business lunch and things were busy but our waitress kept up with everything and brought all our meals out at the same time. I was checking out the city trying to figure out where I wanted to live and figured it would be a good place to get a beer. I went in and the bartender was very nice and I love the mugs that you get. It was a cool atmosphere and a pretty good crowd of locals and what appeared to be regulars. I also had dinner here and it was also pretty good. Not the best fish and chips in the world but they were good. It seemed like they might cut their own fries which is always a plus, and it said the fish was hand breaded as well. Also, you have to love free popcorn after you have had a few beers. read more
