This is a hidden Gem in Old Town Spring. I had the Reuben Sandwich. Best I have ever had. Took a Wagyu Hot Dog home. It was also delicious. I live in Cypress and plan to make the short drive to try more things on the menu. Also the owners are on property and such a pleasure to talk to. The place is clean and the outdoor seating is a special touch Run don't walk to check this place out

First time eating here today. Wife and I had a great meal. Everyone was friendly and when you enter you are immediately greeted with wonderful smells of food. My Ruben sandwich was good but the potato leek soup was great. It is the best potato leek soup I have ever had. Portions are large and you leave feeling full. Didn't even want dessert but they have a large selection of milkshakes and floats. Will definately return.

After grabbing dinner, we decided to stop by for a sweet treat! We arrived in the late evening so the restaurant wasn't too busy. We decided to try their ice selections which include a variety of options. The young man at the counter was kind, service was speedy, and the restaurant is cute with a retro touch. We went with a Coke float and an ice cream cone. The portions sizes are ginormous! The ice cream wasn't blue bell lol but it was pretty good.

It is a cozy & quaint establishment, appropriate for historic Old Town Spring. Drawing appeal with its prime location in the heart of plaza, Lynn's beckons visitors & tourist into its little yellow cottage with nostalgic charm. Sadly, Lynn's does not live up to the legacy of its predecessor (it was formerly Ellen's Cafe)... Service was warm & friendly, and our waitress was attentive & expeditious. Unfortunately, our meal was hardly satisfying and disappointing for the palette. The menu maintains quite a bit of diversity (influenced by war-era dishes, blending American & German heritage). However, prices are a bit steep. We spent over $80 (after tax, before tip) for 3 people on just a "so-so" meal... *The cheeseburger brought the familiarity of a cafeteria meal - a tiny patty overloaded with ketchup and mayo to try and mask how dry & bland it was. *The "seafood" salad was basically an egg salad with a bit of immigration crab. *The gumbo was soupy and (oddly) and overloaded with diced green chilis. *Fries are (surprisingly) not offered as a side item, and the fruit bowl is just a handful of grapes. From plating to taste, it all leaves much to be desired. Salt & sugar are heavy, but there isn't much flavor otherwise. While it may serve as a convenient dessert stop for passers by, there are a few other restaurants in Old Town Spring that I much prefer for higher quality lunch or dinner.

Starving after a morning of excessive plant shopping, garden and arboretum explorting, we happened upon Old Town Spring and stopped by Lynn's Table for lunch. It's a casual eatery with a cozy, homey feel to it. Service was friendly but handsoff, checking in periodically. Foodwise, they have some brunch items, lots of lunch (salads, sandwiches, burgers, and hotdogs), and some dinner options. They also seem to have weeknight dinner specials but we came on a Saturday afternoon and lunch was what we were feeling. I ended up going for the frito pie hotdog with soup as my side. I really enjoyed the chili on my hotdog and thought the hotdog itself had a great initial bite that had a crisp to it but then remaining bites were just a hotdog. I couldn't tell that it was wagyu but also its a hotdog and I'll be honest, they're tastewise mostly the same to my palate. What won me over was the soup though, I didn't catch the name of the soup but it was one of the soups of the day and was described as a beef and vegetable soup. Yes, it was a sunny, warm day and we sat outside but I still wanted soup. I'm glad I went with it cause it was so flavorful and delicious. It almost had a like chicken gumbo flavor but felt lighter. Regardless, I wish I got the name so I can look out for it in the future. Overall, this was a really quaint dining experience and sitting on the patio allowed us to get a sense of Old Town Spring. The food was good with a personal standout of their soup.

Nice comfortable interior food is decent presentation it would be a little better but it's not really bad. Lady in the morning I wish would have served is a happy person I wish she would have waited on us, the male server that a little on stoic side that took over is kind of decent as well. Would definitely return. My son and friend had the corned beef hash with eggs, no complaints there. I had the biscuit and gravy with the meats in the gravy and to over easy eggs which turned out pretty delicious, wish I would have ordered more gravy but then I think about that at that time. Pretty expansive menu to try other things next time

Overpriced, unseasoned food. We came here for lunch after a long morning of exploring old town spring. The options for food are kind of limited so this was the only place that didn't have a long line. We were able to get a table right away, but the service took forever despite them having a lot of servers and a lot of empty tables in the restaurant. I had the chicken ranch pita with a side salad and it was honestly awful. Everything tasted unseasoned. After they brought out our food it was hard to get their attention when we needed a water refill and our check. The prices are a bit too high for the quality of food and service here.

A great, homestyle restaurant in Old Town Spring. They have an extensive menu but breakfast-to-lunch can be an awkward time to enter. Still, the staff are super friendly and attentive. I got a veggie sandwich with a side of potato salad, and the meal was incredibly filling. They stuffed the sandwich with as many fillings as possible! They also make a great iced coffee - mine had just the right amount of sweetness! My dad also forgot his credit card and we called them later in the day to see if he could come by and pick it up. He wasn't able to make it until three days later, and they had it for him, so kudos to the staff!

We visited Lynn's for lunch on a Saturday at 11:30. It seemed like they were understaffed. We were seated quickly, but then waited about 20 minutes until someone took our order. We were very close to going somewhere else by that time. Luckily, it only took them about 10-15 minutes to bring the food out after we ordered. The prices are quite high for cafe type food, $16 for a sandwich, but the portions were large and everything we had was good. They are also part ice cream parlor with a walk-up counter up front. They offer many desserts and sweet treats. We ordered the club sandwich and tuna melt and enjoyed both.

Usually, this place is on point. Today is not one of those days. As it is a beautiful day, I asked to sit out on the ball patio. Big mistake. I know what I wanted right away. I started to place my order, but appar3ntly, the charming young lady wasn't a waiter (ess), and tells me she will send someone. Another group arrives. They, apparantly know someone, so they immediately send someone to help them. I'm listening to them literally get fawned over while I am sitting waiting. So apprently, you literally have to know someone in order to get service here. No thanks, I'd rather give my money to a business that understands, and respects, that just because I'm sitting on your patio doesn't mean that I am a hostage and have to stay there. My money isn't being spent to support this low level management/ customer service. The tea house down the street has excellent customer service and even better food. read more

Went all the way from Montgomery to Old Town Spring for lunch at Ellen's Cafe. We were going to Costco anyway so thought we'd drive a little further & try a new place (which had 4s on Yelp). I only had a couple of bites of the Spinach & Bacon Quiche I ordered and knew it was absolutely the worse quiche ever! Soggy crust with the whole thing coated in over heated cheese without any visible bacon & very little egg. I believe it was made yesterday (or maybe the day before) and refrigerated; which made the crust wet & soggy. Now the side salad was a beautiful mixture of fresh greens, tomato & cucumber (only one slice though) & very good croutons. The Honey Mustard dressing was the best I've had. My husband had the Ham & Swiss Cheese sandwich which he said was okay but it was very large with overly thick bread but with an amble amount of ham. He would have preferred the bread toasted though. So all & all we weren't impressed. Better places in Old Town Spring to eat so I doubt we'll go back. read more

We went here as a lunch date today and was actually not as pleased as i thought i was going to be. My girlfriend got the honey mustard chicken sandwich and it was the tiniest sandwich ever and didn't have that much taste to it. I got the trio salad which has chicken, tuna and seafood on it. All three meats looked like they came out of a can. If you order sweet tea you only have the options of peach or strawberry. The cream soda my girlfriend got was pretty bomb though. We didn't even stay for the deserts. read more

I took recommendations from the staff and had The Chicken Artichoke quiche and my husband had the trio salad. Both were patron favorites and they didn't disappoint! Typically we leave with left overs but nothing was left to take home Small quaint restaurant in Old Town Spring worth trying. There is outdoor seating and wonderful smelling deserts...however we were too full to try them. Maybe next visit we will start with dessert first! To add to the charm is the chef came to see if our meal was ok. YELP it was! read more

Waitress could not answer questions about menu. I told her I was allergic to onions, and ordered 1/2 turkey sandwich and soup (Ellen's Special), which she said had no onions. She came back saying that she read the ingredients and onions were in the soup. So ordered a whole sandwich and not the special. She said she couldn't do that because they had already made the 1/2 sandwich. So I asked her what my options were. She said I could sub chips. I don't want chips. I asked for a small salad, which came as lettuce and 2 cucumber slices, and with a dressing with onions in it! I asked her about the onions and she said she didn't know what was in the dressings. So I paid $10 for a half of a turkey sandwich and a couple of chunks of melon. They didn't seem to care about customer satisfaction. And, SHE acted aggravated. Won't be back. read more

We really enjoyed this little restaurant. The atmosphere is nice. It looks pretty dated but it's clean. The albacore tuna salad was fresh and delicious. I also thought the basic salad was fresh and tasty. Its a great lunch spot. read more

Whenever I want good tasting and high quality food, I come to Ellen's. Everything is always good, and while I have many favorites, the Lobster Bisque soup, served on Friday, is really what I like best....oh, and the lemon meringue pie! It's all good. Another plus is the quaint, country feeling and the wait staff are so friendly. This place gets five stars from me every time I eat there. read more

Took my family here one day after shopping. It was a rainy Sunday, but there were still quite a few people in there. Our service was great and everyone loved their food. We had four children between the ages 7 through 11. The waitress was very patient with the children and attentive to a group of 8. I had the crab salad sandwich, delicious!!! Ellen's was recommended to me by someone so I thought I'd drop by. The food was delivered super quick but didn't taste too fresh! Guess it was cooked and sitting there for a while. This is the best lunch I have had in a very long time. I wanted to lick the plate clean! I had the mushroom and broccoli quiche with a house salad that had balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. I would have bought seconds but it was the perfect portion and I would have been stuffed if I had another plate. Excellent Beef Sliders complemented with horseradish and au jus sauce on the side. Soups are wonderful as well and tonight's was bacon potato but lobster bisque on Friday is wonderful as well. Finished with a great slice of carrot cake! Well worth the trip. read more

My wife and I have eaten here dozens of times over the past two years. Every time the food has been amazing. Chef Matt does not disappoint with classics to his own masterful creations. Lobster Bisque Friday's, to red beans and rice w sausage, to club sandwich or fresh quiche. I and my friends had not been to Ellen's in some time. I saw that it had changed management but wanted to give them a chance. Not sure if it was because we went on a Tuesday or why but the food was just so-so. I like a light lunch. The quiche was heavy as if the eggs were not whipped and there was too much stuff in it to make it even heavier. Also, the cheese soup was just like melted cheese, way too thick to be called soup more like a cheese dip. I hope to be able to give them another chance but doubt if those two friends will want to accompany me. read more

Very happy with this place. Perfect kish, excellent savory crepe (though quite expensive for a brunch item and the price is not in the menu), both with fresh fruit salads. The aroma of fresh waffles brings some extra charm. The portion size is truly Texan. Dog are allowed on the terrace which is wonderful! read more

This place is awesome! Wife and I went to Ellen's on Saturday night for our first date night since our son was born. The amazing food was only surpassed by the level of service. Chef Matthew came to our table multiple times to discuss the menu and how everything tasted. I got the seared ahi tuna with asparagus and homemade mac n cheese. Everything was delicious. The highlight of my meal was the blackberry cobbler w/ cinnamon ice cream. Sooooooo good. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant! read more

We are new to the area and the cafe was recommended to us by a neighboring business. Hubby absolutely LOVED his food (the potato salad reminded him of PA Dutch style cooking like his mom used to make), the servers were decent, but the owners and kitchen staff are wonderful. We have been back twice and haven't been disappointed in the service. I'm from the northeast and was excited to visit on lobster Friday, I ordered the lobster roll but am a traditionalist and didn't enjoy their take on a Maine lobster roll (I've since come to learn it's a Martha Stewart style lobster salad roll). The chef owner insisted that if I wasn't happy to send it back and they'd make me something new, no problem. So I sent it back and had a delicious wagyu chilli dog instead. We will continue to patronize this chef owned and operated restaurant because the food is delicious and their commitment to ensuring you have a great experience is wonderful. PS-the Reuben is phenomenal! read more

I really want to love Ellen's. It's got that old timey charm and is right in the middle of old town spring. But I've been 3 times now and am just not impressed. Both the sandwiches and the salad I've tried have been very plain. Nothing terrible, just not special and not worth $9.95... the staff is very friendly and the location is charming but I just feel like the food isn't anything better than what you have in your pantry/fridge at home... if you go, go for the dessert! read more

Won't be choosing this establishment to dine at in the future. Service was very poor, food wasn't bad but it took an hour to receive it and then we got the incorrect ticket when we were brought the bill. We don't come to old town spring enough to waist time at an establishment that doesn't value their clients. read more

I am not hard to please but all of these outrageously good reviews are bogus! We come to Old Town Spring all the time, and decided to try Ellens finally. They were out of the soup of the day at 1p.m.! Mediocre food followed by horrible service doesn't make for 5 star dining... even if the place is decorated nice. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Jessica and Matthew L.

Jessica and Matthew Lynn met at The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY in 1994 where they quickly decided their dream was to own and operate a quaint restaurant in the heart of a historical district. They have traveled the world and the United States working for world renowned restaurants such as the Sign of the Dove and The Monkey Bar in New York City, Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and The Brownstone, The Tasting Room, Cafe Express, and Lynn's Steakhouse right here in Houston. They have 30 years combined experience in the restaurant and hospitality industries. Family brought them back to Texas and they have spent the last 7 years searching for just the right spot to make their restaurant ownership dreams come true. On May 15th, 2015 that dream became a reality with the purchase of Ellen's Cafe in Old Town Spring. They bring with them a southern hospitality that comes with being raised in the South.

It's noted on the menu that is must be served medium rare, no exceptions - that's my preferred temperature anyway, so it was perfect for me. It was indeed juicy and tender. The cajun fries were a nice pairing. We enjoyed our experience overall. Was it a top notch, amazing burger? I wouldn't go that far, but it did its job and I'm happy we came and tried it out.

I thought this was the buger at first and was secretly getting a bit concerned when I saw the cook toss it onto the counter like a bean bag. The cashier was super nice. He offered me water as I waited. They had another guy working in the back cooking the food. You also get a thimble of ketchup in your Togo bag along with a packet of mustard and mayo. The bun was a little burnt. And I couldn't taste any of the mixed in jalapeños. Also I kinda wish they had whole lettuce rather than chopped just because it kept falling out of the burger. But other than these issues the burger was pretty tasty. Definitely not a McDonald's burger like one person posted. But also not the best burger ever as many other posters swear by. Definitely glad I went. But don't know if I'd be willing to spend another $20 on one of their Burgers either. They're closed on Sundays according to Google maps which is old school nice to see.

This caused communication problems with the waiter, who misheard me, and I really couldn't hear what he was saying. This is not an intimate spot for deep conversations. Second, parking is a challenge. No parking lot. There are some spaces across the street along the railroad tracks, but not enough. I parked on the other side of the tracks and hiked over the rails, but that is a little dangerous. There are some $ 5-a-day parking lots up the road. Is the pork chop better than Perry's? I liked the mashed potatoes, and the meat was properly prepared for sure, but the seasoning was not exactly right for me -- I think they added cinnamon, though my wife thinks it was allspice, and a hint of sugar. An East Texas sort of flavor--I prefer Perry's. But a close second for sure. Allec, I can't find your card, so I know I am spelling your name wrong, but you were a great waiter, and so I am giving this shack a 5.

The pieces of meat were just shaved and not crispy or anything like you may receive on some gyro at other places. The potatoes were homemade and basically 1/4 potatoes, sliced lengthwise. I was so full from the gyro that I only ate one of the potatoes but didn't think it was very lemony at all. Customer service was excellent the entire time and they will even come to your table and take your plate away as if they are full service, which they aren't . I also ordered a slice of coconut cream pie, or at least that's what they said it was. It had no cream in it and appeared to be a coconut custard pie not that different than the one I make at home. It was delicious as well.

The blue fin tuna tostados were delightful and hands down the best dish we had. Ceviche mixto was excellent with a just a hint of heat. I would order these two appetizer dishes again. Main courses consisted of duck 2 ways, redfish with green mole and risotto, spring cavatelli, and grilled shrimp & pork belly. All were delicious and uniquely tasty with the exception of the duck. Mind you, I really like duck and the sliced portions were excellent and perfectly seasoned and moist, but the pate-like accompaniment was not that good, plus the mole sauce was not what I was expecting. Table sides of Brussels sprouts and fried cauliflower were good but nothing special. The Eton Mess with strawberries was simply delicious. Would I go back? Maybe, but not anytime soon.

The owners, Chefs Matthew and Jessica Lynn, are husband and wife and met in culinary school. They are both talented chefs and it shows in the food they serve. The menu at Lynn's Table features a variety of American dishes, all made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The breakfast menu is particularly impressive, with items like pancakes, waffles, omelets, and biscuits and gravy. The lunch menu features sandwiches, salads, and entrees, such as the grilled chicken club and the shrimp and grits. The dinner menu features steak, seafood, and pasta dishes. There's so many dishes I love there I could go on forever, but one of my favorites is the Wagyu beef hot dogs with HeartBrand certified Akaushi beef chili!!!! that's one of my favorite things about this place is their choice of meats, organic chicken breast, nitrate free ham, Akaushi beef hamburgers, you can have a somewhat guilt-free meal lol! And don't get me started on the soups.... it's like something out of a fine restaurant and they're always different, It's so wonderful! The desserts are also worth trying, and I especially liked the chocolate cake, it's enormous and should definitely be paired with the Tillamook cherry ice cream!!! My wife and I just celebrated our 14th anniversary. It was our first date night since moving here from St. Louis. I was definitely looking at fancy steakhouses while my wife searched for a cafe or diner that would remind her of NY. We were far apart but when she showed me Ellen's it definitely had a small town feel there in Old Town Spring. Driving up, I knew she was going to love the atmosphere but I still had my reservations (literally, on Open Table). I loved Old Town Spring, can't wait to go back and I know I'll make a trip to Ellen's. We were greeted and sat by a friendly young lady that wished us a happy anniversary and then we spoke to the chef...he was awesome. He told us he was playing with some flavor not on the menu and when he said lobster ravioli I did backflips. He served it with a safe butter and actually retrieved the sage front his herb garden out front (YES!) Food came out quick, tasted fresh, and was absolutely delicious. This place was everything we were looking for on a special night that didn't need any frills...it just delivered excellent food and a comfortable environment. We stopped in here totally not knowing what to expect. It was packed and an open patio. It took forever to look over the menu, they have such a variety to choose from and looking at other diners food...it all looked Wonderful and fresh! We were in the mood for salad, so I chose the salad that had 3 different salads, chicken, Tina and seafood on top. WAS WONDERFUL! SUPER FRESH and although I wanted to pig out and finish I couldn't. My man got the club sandwich which was really good. The patio gave you a bird's eye view of Old Town Spring, people watching while eating was quite fun! We will definitely be back.
