We were looking for a diner or local café with good food and, given its rating on Yelp, we decided to try this place. The menu options are huge in this diner and I really wasn't sure quite what to expect. Good news was our welcoming waitress named Candyce who was very friendly, answered questions and made suggestions. Mr. Picky has a sweet tooth and wanted to order just pancakes, but I bullied him into ordering one of their FIT omelettes (shrimp and avocado) and then they very kindly substituted two pancakes for the side of fruit. I was eyeballing the Reuben on the menu and when I asked the waitress to name her favorites, that was one of them and so I went ahead and ordered it with fried zucchini and onion rings. The latter two fried things we both liked, the Reuben was just average, but the omelette was loaded with mushrooms and onions which helped make it taste good (the kitchen did a good job on that omelette to put lots of stuff on it and send it to the table looking substantial and tasty). As they close at 3 PM, they don't have desserts at this particular location, and so we shared the Strawberry cheesecake pancakes to finish the meal. Overall, this is not a "4.7" level restaurant but that was on only 12 reviews. I might stop in again if I was running down Kuykendahl and needed a quick bite, but the good news was the price. What a pleasant surprise. We found ourselves out and looking for a breakfast spot-and we found a great one! Restaurant was clean, ample seating, great service and food. Egg sandwich with hash browns (that were nice and crispy!). Good coffee, in and out for two people for around $20. Give them a try if you're in the area. read more

Came here yesterday morning around 9 am with my husband for a quick breakfast on the way to run errands. I'm not sure how long they have been open, but we knew they were relatively new and wanted to give them a try. We were seated right away and it was not very busy. We both decided on combo breakfast dishes- mine eggs, sausage, hash browns, and a waffle. My husband got chicken fried steak, eggs, hash browns, and pancakes. We were both impressed with the portions, quality, and prices. Our service was really great as well. It's refreshing to have a breakfast place close that's not extremely expensive with small portions. We will be back to try their lunch and dinner too as their menu has a lot of good choices. read more

This is the new location on Kuykendahl and we were really excited to try it. Breakfast and lunch only (hours are not posted on the doors). The food was really delicious and the serving size was a good amount as shown in the pictures. We had the Blue Burger, which is a large and tasty, and crinkle cut fries. We also had the hamburger steak with green beans (w bacon) and fried potatoes. Threw in a side salad for $.99 as well. Overall, the food was excellent. The service was fine ( I hate that word) but it was nothing remarkable. The server was efficient but lacked personality, I had to request refills and she didn't ask how anything was. The ambiance is pleasant, they were cleaning when we walked in and it needed it as there were some morsels displaying themselves on the floor. They could use some light music to help set a better experience as well. We will definitely go back to try other entrees as the customer favorite seems to be the Chicken Fried Chicken and Steak. The burger's are large but a little pricey. Overall, recommended and happy to see them so close by to our Woodlands homestead. read more

I've been to both locations, and I can honestly say this one is far better than the original. First off, the restaurant itself just looks better. It's cleaner, nicer, and feels more welcoming as soon as you walk in. The atmosphere alone makes it a much more enjoyable place to eat. The service was also a big improvement. The staff here were friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. It felt like they actually cared about the customers and wanted you to have a good experience. What surprised me the most was the food. It's the exact same menu as the original location, but somehow it tasted better here. Everything came out fresh, hot, and really well prepared. I'll be honest, I had a pretty bad experience at the original location before, which made me hesitant to try this one. But I'm really glad I did because it completely changed my opinion. At this point, I may never go back to the original location again--but I will definitely be coming back to this one. Highly recommend giving this location a try. read more

As an out of towner, I wanted to try a local breakfast spot in lieu of the chain joints. I was pleasantly surprised with the I-45 Diner. Welcoming, friendly, and attentive staff. There are many options across the board on the menu. I chose the corned beef hash combo option, trading the pancakes for a waffle. The waffle was huge! Great food and reasonably priced. I had Barbacoa and there was an excessive amount of bone fragments in it along with it being cold. Waitress never came by to see if we were satisfied with our food nor to refill our beverages. This new location recently opened after teasing us for a long time. Currently it is only open for breakfast and lunch, but they hope to add dinner service. We stopped in at lunchtime and got a mix of items. On the breakfast side we got the breakfast skillet. Potatoes, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, cheese, two eggs, and we had bacon for the meat. The skillet is nicely presented and makes you want to eat it. It's a fine blend of flavors, everything done competently. For a mix we got the chicken and waffles--chicken fingers and waffles with syrup. This dish for me is a triumph of hope over experience--I love the idea but it's almost never executed the way I would want. This one came closer than most--the waffles were crisp and light, as was the chicken. It's hard to get chicken fingers to be juicy, and these were just a little dry. The syrup helps that as a condiment, but for me the breading has to be really salty to hold up to the syrup and this wasn't quite there. Still a good try. For a lunch entree we got the Southwest pork chops. Another dish that I love to order but is hard to get right. Again they came close. The southwest mix on top is very tasty. The chops were over by about 30 seconds (doesn't take long with thin chops on a hot grill). Pretty good and I enjoyed it. The dessert was very limited--they did not have ice cream so the only one they had was peach cobbler. It was a decent representation, more of a breaded top than a crumble. Made with canned peaches, which is the Texas way. The menu is huge so there's lots of room to go back and try things. They have burgers, Tex-Mex and lots of classic comfort food. I'm sure we'll be back because they have something for everyone. Service is casual, just sit down and they'll find you. The place was clean and bustling when we were there. The food was amazing! We got the nachos for an appetizer and they were some of the best we've had which was surprising since this is more of a breakfast place. The food overall was really good! The service was a bit slow and we had to wait for long periods of time before our waitress would check on us but she was still really nice. Other than that everything was amazing! read more

I ordered the biscuits with gravy, hash browns pork sausage and poached eggs. the biscuits were flat like they weren't given time to rise and the white "gravy" had no flavor whatsoever.....flour and water basically. I had to douse it with salt and Tabasco to actually partially eat any of it. Everything came to the table barely warm. When I told our server about the barely warm food she replied that she had been told that several times. The server never came to the table to check on our meals and didn't come by to see if we wanted refills for our coffee which cost $3.95! We have been waiting forever for the new location to open and were so excited to finally get to try it. We had breakfast today and it wasn't really anything notable. Biscuits and gravy came with a lot of food but the biscuits were tiny and smothered in what appeared to be very runny gravy. Biscuits tasted like they were cooked on a griddle so slight grease flavor. Chocolate chip pancakes are next. They didn't taste homemade, more like a bisquick mix pancake and were SMOTHERED in chocolate syrup and had a huge dollop of whipped cream. (That could've been in the description and I missed it but just making note.) Syrup wasn't hot which was a little disappointing because cold syrup is gross. Kids smiley face pancake was the same flavor wise but kiddo was excited and ate it with no complaints other than the cold syrup. I also ordered a side of bacon and it came with all the grease from the pan on that plate. It was FREEZING in there but to be fair, I'm typically cold in restaurants and my husband thought it was comfortable. Overall very clean and the staff was really nice. Our waitress was friendly and the coffee was excellent. Clean bathrooms are also a plus! We probably won't go back because it was a pretty underwhelming for $50. read more

We're from out of state and were on the hunt for a good breakfast spot--something local, hearty, and not a chain. Yelp led us to I-45 Diner, which had solid ratings, though it looked like a relatively new place. There weren't a ton of reviews yet, but the menu had all the traditional breakfast favorites, so we gave it a shot. Glad we did! The food was delicious. We tried the corned beef hash, pork chops, and the breakfast combo--everything came out hot, well-seasoned, and generously portioned. Since it was Saturday, we also couldn't pass up the barbacoa tacos, and they didn't disappoint. Flavorful, tender, and just the right touch of spice. My husband and I tried this place for the first time this past weekend. Waitress was sweet, and very attentive. The place was clean and smelled good.
