We came for breakfast right as they opened. I got the quiche, way too salty. The fruit salad it came with was fresh. The coffee is just plain ol coffee. We visited Saturday while we were walking around shopping in old town Spring and after quickly checking Yelp reviews of our choices, decided this place would be nice for a sandwich and glass of wine. It seemed as if any bad reviews were based on price, not quality and we were ok with spending a little more for something tasty. The food was terrible but the service was even worse. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken. Once we got our drinks, she took our food order. And then we sat for 27 minutes until some other waiter brought our food. The restaurant was about 2/3's full so I didn't expect this long of a wait time. We ordered a chicken Caesar salad and a chicken salad sandwich with a side of pasta salad. This means everything was cold, nothing had to be cooked and we still waited almost 30 minutes for our food. The food was bland, flavorless, the lettuce salad and the pasta salad were drowning in dressing, I picked at as much as I could, just to fill my hungry tummy. The chicken salad (which we were told was a best seller) was flavorless, if this is the best seller then people that eat here must not have taste buds. It took a long time to get our check. Really a great place! We went for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was quiet and only a handful of customers coming and going, which needs to change because this place is amazing and I am sure once more people find this place it with become a packed house. I had the Frickadilla (I believe that is what it is called) and it was so amazing - the green peppercorn sauce was just terrific. The red cabbage was cooked perfectly with a perfect balance between sweetness and vinegar. The spatzle was a really great base for the entire dish. I finished dinner with a blackberry cobbler which was also fantastic. The place consists of an indoor sit down area and patio. There is also an ice cream parlor that is apart of this establishment. The chef comes out to the table and checks on you and your meal. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The menu diverse - German, Cajun, Texmex, seafood and so really awesome looking salads and sandwiches. read more

The minute you walk in the door you are hit with yummy smells. The food here was fresh, homemade and very tasty. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area shopping and need to refuel. First I'd like to say everything was amazing! We got there after they were closed not realizing, and they were so sweet and still served us. The waitress was sweet and very informative. We all enjoyed everything and after we had ice cream and treats. The chef and owner then came out and we chatted for a minute, he seems Everything was fresh and definitely homemade. Food was average. I got a trio salad which was interesting. I enjoyed my salad. I also ordered a frappacino. I was very disappointed that their beverages were no where to be seen on the menu and the waitress was rather a bit rude about taking my drink order. I waited about 10 minutes to get the check and in that process at least 3 employees walked passed my table. $5 for a frappacino??? I probably should've gone to Starbucks. We love this place for lunch and have never been disappointed...we have had dinner there a few times and I must say that the level of quality and serve is very consistent. I opted for the choose your own plate, with choices of a protein, starch, vegetable and sauce. OMG....the 12oz ribeye is one of the best I have ever eaten and with the spinach au gratin and the mushroom demiglace and mashed potatoes ...I was in heaven!!!! It looked divine, tasted even better( didn't know that was possible). My hubbie opts for the Roquefort Bleu Cheese Burger with applewood smoked bacon, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun with potato salad on the side. He is in love with this combo. My family was excited to find a new spot near home. Everything was going fine until we waited about 40 minutes for our mediocre sized meals to come out, the waffles were very small and the food very bland. It was a hot summer day in August - the humidity and heat barely manageable. Not many shops in Old Town Spring were open, so when we happened on Ellen's Cafe we decided to cool down inside and have some lunch at about 1245 pm. Upon entry, the cafe had a "mom and pop" appeal. When entering the establishment, to the left was an appealing ice cream shop and to the right was the cafe. The first table in the cafe area was cluttered with disorganized papers, calculator, and other office supplies. Not so much an eyesore but more so of a "welcome to my business" appeal. Some may not like this, but I do and appreciate the "family-oriented" view. There were three of us in the group; me, my brother, and his wife who were from Oklahoma and in Houston for a visit. We all ordered something different. I ordered the Tuna (Cheddar) Melt with chips, brother ordered the Cafe' Chef Salad, and sister-in-law ordered the CBS Sandwich. Both of them liked their food and said it tasted good and got a good size serving. My Tuna Melt was very good - great tasting tuna salad with cheddar cheese inside two pieces whole wheat bread and grilled perfectly to a nice crisp. You would think the tuna salad would not taste so good inside grilled bread, but it tasted great. For dessert my brother and I trounced over to the ice cream parlor section. Sarah was helpful in the decision between the many "home-made-daily" ice cream choices available. I chose the Rocky Road in a cup and my brother got the Praline Pecan in a waffle cone. Sarah informed us that she makes all the cones by hand also. It was a welcomed chilly taste to the absurdly humid and hot weather outside. The Rocky Road ice cream was delicious. I took some pictures of the place, but when trying to upload them the network crashed. Dang Sprint does it again and Welps on my Yelp. Oh well, Sarah had an awesome smile and was very helpful. Horrible service. Walking in we experienced a pleasant atmosphere , but our waitress just didn't have it together. She never offered us refills or asked my husband if he wanted another beer. She also failed to mention that the up-charge to substitute a side item was $6 for Mac n Cheese. It took 15-20 mins to bring out soup and salad appetizers. Let me point out they were not busy. Then the entree soon followed behind, which was wrong. The management graciously fixed the issue and got the correct entree out. But by this point we were over it. Ordered coffee and juice and didn't get that till after we got our meal because we reminded our server. She was apologetic but it wasn't like the restaurant was full. They had a great looking menu - all cold sandwiches, but a huge selection and soups, and good looking salads... Mrs Eva had a chicken salad sandwich with potato cheese soup and a fruit bowl. Very refreshing after walking around Old Town Spring. Nice, relaxed atmosphere, good food. Restaurant was not busy when we arrived, maybe 5 tables so service was calm and relaxed. We were not in a hurry and enjoyed our visit. Reviews were awesome so decided to try this cafe. The food even looked amazing when it first came out. However, when we cut into the burger, we found it to be practically raw. Not a little pink... outright raw. We sent it back only to find out they microwaved it and returned the exact burger to us... original bun, tomato, condiments and all. I was beyond disgusted I lost my appetite. When I inquired with the manager if this was their policy, rather than make a new un-contaminated burger plate, she said "yeah, what else did you expect?" Great place!! This is my 5th visit and I'm in Love!! I've had the California Turkey sandwich, the Reuben, the chicken artichoke, spinach quiche and all are fantastic!! They also have ice cream, smoothies and homemade fudge!! The fudge that has three layers is phenomenal!! On Saturday they have a snow cone cart out front! And these are real snow cones!! Food was far from anything special. 12 dollars for a lunch meat, cold fatty bacon, and chips was outrageous. 2.30 for a bottle of soda is ridiculous and there is no mention of bottled soda other than the specialty soda on the menu. The wait staff was extremely rude and the owner was even worse. My poor nephew dropped his Burger even with the tooth pick in it because it slid right off the lettuce on bottom. The owner was extremely rude, wouldn't give him a new one and really didn't want to take it off our ticket but reluctantly did. Not looking for free food but a little customer service. ( I have seen chick fil a replace a whole family's meal after it was thrown away by custodial at the mall for free) I have heard so many good things about this place and I am sorry we ever went. read more

After a grueling day of Disaster Relief work, the team headed here for a treat. We'd already been fed supper, but still the menu was enticing. Some indulged, others settled for some delicious ice cream. This quaint restaurant maintains a perfect fit for this area of Spring. The staff was attentive and friendly. I really wanted to like this place and I will give it a second chance. Their burger was quite good and, supposedly, heart healthy. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato and mayo. There are no fries offered so I opted for the potato salad. It was good but not memorable. My daughter also had the burger, which she liked, but she chose chips. Bagged chips. Meh. The bad part was the service. In all fairness, they had a help wanted sign out but the place was not that full. We were ignored a lot, my iced tea never refilled and three different waiters came stopped by. I asked for no mayo on my burger, wanting mustard instead. It came with no mayo and no mustard. A little thing except the waiter assured me the mustard was on there. Also, the burger should have been hotter. It felt like maybe it sat in the kitchen for a while. As I said, I'll give this place another chance but poor service will kill a restaurant and I hope yesterday was simply an anomaly. read more

Went all the way from Montgomery to Old Town Spring for lunch at Ellen's Cafe. We were going to Costco anyway so thought we'd drive a little further & try a new place (which had 4s on Yelp). I only had a couple of bites of the Spinach & Bacon Quiche I ordered and knew it was absolutely the worse quiche ever! Soggy crust with the whole thing coated in over heated cheese without any visible bacon & very little egg. I believe it was made yesterday (or maybe the day before) and refrigerated; which made the crust wet & soggy. Now the side salad was a beautiful mixture of fresh greens, tomato & cucumber (only one slice though) & very good croutons. The Honey Mustard dressing was the best I've had. My husband had the Ham & Swiss Cheese sandwich which he said was okay but it was very large with overly thick bread but with an amble amount of ham. He would have preferred the bread toasted though. So all & all we weren't impressed. Better places in Old Town Spring to eat so I doubt we'll go back. read more
