We live out of town, but have family in Vernon. We have eaten here a couple of times in the past six weeks. Both times the food was excellent. Most recently, our server - Maya - did a great job. We used to live in Amarillo and Lubbock and I learned that Lupes II is owned by the same family that has "The Plaza" in both towns. (VERY popular Mexican restaurants.) The food is outstanding, the service is attentive, and the prices are fair. It's hard to beat that combination!! read more

Visiting from our of town for Last Blast Car Show. I hate to give a 1 star to a family owned restraunt but this was not the best visit. I can say that my beef tips in mexican gravy were delicious and the Pina Colada the bartender made was one of the best I've ever had. If it would have just been me at the table, I would have given a 5 star review. The poor bartender was running around the place, just sweating his butt off. The a/c was not working the beat in the bar area but with the heat, I get it's hard to cool a building down. I took him a while to get to us and so at one point I went and grabbed a pitcher of water and filled my tumbler up myself because your girl was thirsty bland my tumbler was empty. Once he had the chance to get to us and take out food order, my dad got essentially a chicken said with no cheese because of his dairy allergy. They brought the food out and like I said, mine was great but my dads came out with dairy. So sent it back to get remade and it comes back out a few minutes later. The cook had gone through the salad and tried picking the cheese out of the salad. The was unacceptable and there was still cheese on the salad and the plating was just all over the place. I had to go find the bartender and show him the salad. He then took it and we didnt see him for 10 minutes until he personally brought out the salad. Said he watches them make it to make sure there was no tampering or cheese put back on it. He enjoyed the salad once it was made correctly but it took my dad 40 minutes to get his meal. When the bill came, we also had to pay full price for his meal. Being in management at my restraunt, I would have never made someone pay for there meal after for 1, waiting that long for there food. For 2, it coming out twice and still being wrong. I talked to the manager and she said because he eventually got his food that she made us pay for it. Was not ok. My Uncle loves bringing us here because it's one of his favorite places to come when we are in town. I don't know if I will want to come back after being treated the way we were, even though the food was delicious. read more

Lupes II is another hidden gem on a long stretch of nothing in the panhandle of Texas.  I couldn't believe it when I saw a place with so many good reviews!  Could it be true!  Could this be the oasis in a food dessert or would it be a mirage? I'm happy to report it is indeed a miraculous oasis!  I'll be bookmarking this one in case I find myself hangry during a food desert crossing again! I'm a lover of good Mexican food and Lupes hit all the marks I was looking for!  Great chips and salsa to start along with smooth creamy dream guacamole!  This is a big determining factor for me.  If you can't get those two things down I doubt you can get the rest right!  But they did it well.  For lunch we had the Tamales De Fiesta, Carne Guisada, and a cheese chile relleno.  While the chile relleno wasn't my favorite of all times, the other two dishes were just as delicious as I had hoped they would be. It made my tastebuds so happy to eat great Mexican food again!! I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again! Service was prompt and friendly and place was clean with ample spacious seating. They even have a drive through if you don't have time for a sit down meal. read more

I got the combo fajitas from here. It came with 4 little pieces of chicken and 5 slices of the beef. THATS ALL FOR $21. Said a comment to the waiter & he proceeded to tell me that the owner said "the meat is expensive" would NOT recommend get fajitas from here. $21 for 9 small pieces of meat is crazy. This place was recommended by an employee at our hotel. The waiter made a few mistakes but was very apologetic and they quickly made it right! Food was ok. When they say full size quesadillas they mean 2 full tortillas with meat and cheese. My 17 year old and I split it and we were both full. As far as Mexican restaurants go, give me good salsa and a margarita and I'm easily pleased. The salsa and queso tasted like Tostitos from the store. Stopped by on our way to Altus ok and it was delicious food. Service was fast and prompt. Walked in and the ambiance was the best. There was coin machines which my kids loved, music, and drinks. And the burrito I ordered had lots of meat which was so yum! read more

We stopped by here by chance after getting gas. The staff was friendly and patient. We ordered the tacos Michoacanos (chorizo/steak blend) that were great on freshly made flour tortillas. I had to try the Chile Relleno especial -it's one of my favorite dishes and hard to find even back home on the San Antonio area. This one did not disappoint very tasty with a layer of peppers and cheese on top. Rice and beans were included as well as chips and salsa. A large dos xx topped it off to perfection!!! read more

I dont remember whether I have come here since they changed owners I went for dinner with two coworkers march 9th. Food and service great. Large portions at good prices. I had shrimp enchiladas and a beef taco. The enchiladas were totally full of tasty shrimp, with a good sauce on top. One coworker had vegetable fajita. Looked amazing and huge. He enjoyed and he is a fussy eater. He also peppered the mgr on ingredients, with thorough friendly quick response. Other coworker had something loco. Three soft taco filled with steak and veg. Wow. My wife and I were traveling across Texas and looked up restaurants near us so we stopped here. We walked up and the front right window is boarded up and the two left windows the blinds are closed and the front entrance had no lights on. Only a few cars were there so we did not feel safe to go inside and left. I've seen reviews that it's a real restaurant but hopefully the owners see this and realize that the entrance gives off weird vibes so travelers feel safe to come in. read more

The place was almost missed by Maps, thanks Apple app developers. Took us to the other side. But the place was really great. Lots of cars. Fully crowded yet great, GREAT service. Ugh, major disappointment considering the good reviews. I had the chicken fajita chimichanga. A few bites actually had some flavor, the rest of it tasted as bland as paste. The "queso" served with it was just as bland and tasted canned. Sides make rhe meal to me, no luck there either. My guess is the potatoes were frozen and deep fried, beans were flat and tasteless. Now the bad news. Margaritas can make up for a meal like this but these don't. Room temperature glasses, no lime wash, pulled from a dispenser, ( hey the least you can do is give them a few shakes with ice in the shaker to wake them up a bit.) Service was good, not great but acceptable and friendly. Over all I say this place is a pass. It may be good enough if there is nothing else but i was seriously disappointed. read more

I stopped in for lunch as I was passing through and it was easy to find off the highway. It was 2p or so, most of the restaurants in Vernon (other than fast food) seem to close between 2-5p and Lupes is one of the few that stays open straight through lunch and dinner. Lizzie was my server, she was sweet and very attentive. I was thirsty, she kindly refilled my iced tea a million times. Menu is a basic Mexican restaurant menu with Tex Mex options. It doesn't matter what I ordered because I ended up basically eating a bowl of their green salsa with chips instead of the lunch entree I ordered. It was the best salsa I've ever had. I asked for hot sauce because the salsa that comes out was super mild. Lizzie brought me the green salsa and I couldn't stop eating it. I ended up ordering a side of that damn salsa to take home with me. I live an hour and a half away, would eat that salsa daily if I could! Basic Mexican restaurant, best green salsa in the universe. This was a bustling place when we arrived yet we were seated and had our tea and chips in about 3 minutes. We met our waitress and ordered quickly even though there were a lot of choices on the menu. We knew what we wanted. My husbands good arrived within 10 minutes and so did mine but I had asked for "no bell peppers" and it came with...I got my second plate without bell peppers 5 minutes later. The chips and sauce were so yummy, and they had different options of heat for whatever you like. Everything we got was delicious, and the portions were really big. I got fajitas for one and it definitely could've fed two. The steak was juicy, and the tortillas were just right. Nothing was bland either, everything we tried had amazing flavor.
