Charro beans and smoky salsa for the table
Holly O.

We went to Lupe tortilla Sunday. They have a lot of options on their brunch menu or you can order the full menu. My friend got the breakfast nachos, which had scrambled eggs and all the breakfast you can think of on a nacho. I had the spicy crispy chicken tacos. our waitress Indigo was very good. She checked in often and made sure we got all of our food. The restaurant is really cute and seems like it would be a good place for large groups. The bar area is also very beautiful. The queso was pretty yummy but the crispy tacos we're just kind of Ordinary. I expected a little bit more overall. It was a good value and a pleasant experience.

We went the second day they were open for the soft opening. It was invitation only. Knowing it was a soft opening we expected some hiccups and we did have some. Honestly, I've had worse hiccups at established restaurants. Jolie was our waitress and while she was very nervous, she was so sweet and trying so hard. Dylan, the manager, was attentive and fantastic. The restaurant itself is so fun and bright and we enjoyed the environment. Obviously it was spotless being just opened, but the staff was working very hard to uphold their standards. The food was fantastic. My enchiladas were everything I wanted. The price is a little rough but they were great portions so I ended up taking half home. The green chile queso was delicious and my friends quesadilla was massive so she also took half home. Since it is on the pricier end it won't be an all the time place, but I loved the food so can't wait to go back. Fantastic experience.

2 reviews in less than 2 weeks about how rude Nancy (the host) is.

Shout out to both of the managers for caring about your guests experience and our server tiger was amazing and took great care of us. The food was fresh and delicious. However, Nancy (the host) is very rude and unprofessional. She quoted a large party for a graduation dinner 30-40 minutes which is fine even though we called ahead and were told to arrive between 2:30pm-3:00pm and got there at 2:25pm. It was so bad that after an hour + of waiting we had to finally seat ourselves and she told my family member "if you wanna sit at a dirty table that's fine" when the table just needed to be wiped down for 30 minutes. She made no effort to help her coworker buss the table or at least notify management so they could help the busser so she could seat us within the timeframe she quoted. Nancy decided having an attitude was better than doing her job and if not for Nancy this would be a 5 star review!

What a great addition to a Kyle. It is a soft opening week, so you can eat with reservation. It looks great, decor is great. Food was great, service was friendly no issues even their first week - Austin did a great job. Fajita Trio was good. 1.5 pound of mixed meeat of shrimp, chicken and beef was $73.95It comes with a-lot of side dishes. Legit tortillas. Genuinely great addition to Buda Kyle area. Parking is tricky since it is next to the Texas Roadhouse and Crunch Fitness.

Chipotle Short ribs. This is the large plate.

The Chipotle short ribs are delicious!!! The large is technically extra large. This place is great, I love the vibe and they are several delicious food options to choose from. Big plates so do come with an empty stomach. Be warned though, this place is busy after hours. Took about 30 minutes for our food to arrive. But it was worth the wait!!! Thank you Stephanie who was our server 11/01 7PM.

Barbacoa tacos

If you ever find yourself in Kyle, Texas, and craving some seriously good Mexican food, Lupe Tortilla is a spot you should not sleep on. Just wrapped up a meal there and I couldn't help but share how impressed I was--especially by their staff, the food, and one person who really made the night: Cael. --- Atmosphere & Service From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and professional without being overbearing. Drinks came quickly, the ambience was cozy and vibrant, and there was a real sense that everyone there cared about our experience. But what stood out most was Cael. He was attentive, friendly, and had that perfect balance of being present without hovering. Need a refill? He was there. Curious about dish ingredients or flavor profiles? Cael could tell you everything--and with a smile. --- The Barbacoa Tacos (and food in general) Let's talk tacos--specifically the barbacoa. Those were excellent. The meat was tender and juicy, with enough seasoning and smoke to make each bite pop, but not so much that you'd be overwhelmed. The tortilla was soft, fresh, and held everything together beautifully. The accompaniments (onions, cilantro, sauces) added brightness and contrast. Every taco felt like it was built with care. Beyond that, the rest of the menu held up, too. Sides were solid, flavors were bold but balanced, and portions generous enough that you won't leave wishing you'd ordered more--though you might want to. --- Verdict If I were writing a checklist, here's how Lupe Tortilla in Kyle stacks up: Staff: 5/5 -- especially thanks to Caleb doing an outstanding job Food Quality: 5/5 -- barbacoa tacos are a highlight Ambience: 5/5 -- warm, pleasant, lively Value: Very good -- portions and quality make it worth it --- If you want a no‑fail recommendation: get the barbacoa tacos (ask Cael to make sure the tortilla's fresh), pair it with something refreshing to drink, and enjoy a very well pulled‑together dining experience. This place grows on you--and for all the right reasons.

As we walked in, we were greeted by who I assume is the owner and she let us know there was a free table next to her. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us chips and salsa shortly after being sat. The chips and salsa were excellent and I, as usual, ate too much. The salsa had a good spice and great flavor and the chips were very crunchy and crispy (like fritos but airier). I ordered a small menudo and chilaquiles with green salsa and both were really good. The menudo had a ton of flavor, good spices, and the stomach pieces were cooked perfectly; super tender and no, sometimes off putting, lingering offal smells. The chilaquiles were also great and the green salsa was mild and refreshing, with excellent side of potatos and beans. I could not finish my food as I thought the small menudo would be like a small cup not a whole bowl. I had also filled up on chips and salsa and our waitress refilled it so I had even more. All in all, this is an excellent little local spot for some bold flavors and fresh food. The menu is quite large and I'm curious to come back and have some other foods (like chicken fried steak).

It immediately made us uncomfortable and definitely affected the whole experience. We almost left, but since we were already there and didn't want to go somewhere else, we decided to stay and give it a chance. Unfortunately, after seeing that, it was hard to enjoy the food and the overall experience just wasn't good. Another thing that stood out is how dark and dim the restaurant is inside. It makes it hard to see much around you, which honestly made us wonder about the cleanliness after what we saw. We had been here multiple times before without noticing anything like this, so it was surprising and really disappointing this time.

Everything was pretty delicious and the presentation was beautiful. The Catfish Beignets were perfectly crispy with a hint of sweetness, but nothing super special about them, just tasted like fried catfish to me. The Diablo Chicken Pasta was nice and saucy, but like the catfish beignets, was a bit bland so I needed some salt to up the flavors. The shrimp ceviche was very refreshing, delicious, and a solid appetizer that was packed with flavor. The Chicken Waffles was good as well. The chorizo gravy sauce that came with it, was different, but complimented the whole dish very well. Overall, the portion was a bit smaller than I'd like for the price that I paid, but the food was overall pretty delicious. Our server Michael was fantastic. Super fast, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. A full bar, but didn't have Pina Coladas. Lots of tables and chairs to dine at. Clean restrooms and lots of parking. Even then, i thought it was ok, especially for the price point. Stellar: First our server, Faith: she was super friendly, attentive and funny and made it a pleasant experience. Also, the shrimp tostada bites were killer - I could eat those all day. My wife's carajillo was perfect. OK: catfish beignets-the batter was well seasoned and crunchy, but it seemed like the actual fish needed seasoning as it was pretty bland. Grilled chicken sandwich was pretty bland too: the chicken was slightly dry and aside from the avocado, onion and tomato, there was not much flavor. Checked the buns to see if they were spread with an aoli but no, pretty dry. I thought Z Tejas was ok then and it's still ok and wouldn't be my first choice unless it's for happy hour where they have the shrimp tostadas on special.

Well my aunt (who is almost 70) didn't see on the menu it said charro beans was an up charge, refried beans came free. So when she got her bill she was surprised to see she was charged extra for the beans. Mind you the refried beans DID come with her tacos. Why did the waitress not ask "do you want the refried that comes with it or charro for an up charge?" Instead, the waitress automatically gave her charro beans. You don't automatically give someone the upgraded version to their meal and especially not without asking which kind of beans does she want. I'm writing this update bc in my last review the waitress did the same thing by up charging my husband's meal when he didn't ask to. BEWARE here! The food is pretty decent, nothing crazy but it hits the spot if you need some decent Mexican food. However, go over your bill and clarify everything-twice! Just in case because they will try to make extra money off upgrading you without asking you.

We were already seated at our table with my mother and children when the situation occurred. My special needs child had a caramel frappé from McDonald's, which is her preferred drink and one of the only things she consumes, as she does not eat by mouth. Our server had already greeted us and taken our drink orders without raising any concerns. Shortly after, another employee approached us and stated that outside drinks were not allowed. I calmly explained my child's medical needs and that the rest of us were planning to order food. Despite this, the employee brought over a manager, who repeated the policy without any willingness to listen or show understanding. We were then told we could not stay and were effectively asked to leave. While I understand that businesses have policies, the complete lack of compassion, flexibility, and basic customer care in this situation was unacceptable. This was not a case of bringing in outside food for convenience--this was about accommodating a child with special needs while the rest of the family intended to dine and pay as customers. Being asked to leave under these circumstances was both embarrassing and upsetting. Based on this experience, I will not be returning. I hope management seriously reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future, because no family should be treated this way. I'm pretty sure they won't reflect on this situation seeing as how the manager was all too happy about kicking us out, he literally showed absolutely no compassion or care at all.
