I have to say the food was very good, and the service not outstanding but acceptable. The ambiance was ok, I found the booths to be small for four grownups. We ordered queso with chili and it was $6. What arrived was a very small bowl the size of a sauce dish. One thing I did not really like was that when our meal was finished, our waitress just showed up with a handheld with a total and tip already added in. I know some places do this for large groups but there was only 4 of us. The total was $90 for three entries, two margaritas, a queso, a coffee and four waters. No iced teas or sodas. This little gem is our fave Mexican spot here in town. The food is always fresh and hot, and everything we have had here has been exceptional. Service is always great, even if they are busy. Once in a while, a mariachi band will be playing for the customers, and this can be a tad loud. I personally prefer dining in when they are not playing due to the loud noise is a trigger for my TBI. However, many absolutely enjoy the show. They also offer a couple of tables out front if you'd like to dine outside. Definitely a MUST for anyone driving thru town to try. Nabbed a dinner here. Ordered Carne Guisada and Enchiladas Rojos filled with ground beef. Pretty comfy and filling meal. If you're looking to be impressed flavor-wise, I wouldn't recommend coming here for that purpose; there are alternatives which would leave a better impression on your taste buds. That said, I enjoyed the salsa they provide with the chips. It packed a nice amount of heat, but not so hot as to auto-activate hiccups. Also enjoyed the Melon Agua Fresca and Horchata, though on the slightly sweeter side. Service was great; the staff are quite friendly, sweet, and on point. Our enchilada and carne Guisada mains were edible. But they didn't speak to me or bring me to paradise. Some rice kernels were rock hard. The charro beans were recommended over the refried beans, but they were also pretty light on flavor. The carne guisada was tender; the gravy was beefy. The enchiladas were quite plain; the ground beef within tasted quite clean. The bathrooms are in the back, up a slight ramp. One of them is handicapped accessible; the other one is not. A perfect option for a Sunday brunch in Lockhart! I got a cheap $9 Lockhart burrito and it was everything I wanted and needed. Eggs, cheese, beans, potatoes and bacon wrapped in a big homemade tortilla. 2 delicious salsas are on the table to try with your meal. Service was fast, accurate and friendly. The space is bigger than it looks from the outside, and there was no wait. There is beautiful art on the walls along with many many awards for La Cantera. We will definitely be back! read more

Another 10 mins passed when another waitress took our drink order again because the original waitress never placed our original drink order. We placed our food order and once we received our food, we never say our waitress again. When we were ready for the bill, we had to get another waitress to check us out. I wanted it to be great but it was like just Ok and kind of expensive?!! The chips reminded me of the big bag at Sam's! lol The salsa was weak and my 8.50 guacamole starter was full of way to much lettuce?!! Enchiladas Verde were just ok and kind of bland and tough. Lunch Pork chop plate is one of the best I've had. And I'm pretty picky . I took the picture before there was nothing left sorry . I will most certainly come back with friends and family . I ordered fajitas, my Mom ordered the enchiladas, and my brother ordered a fried chicken plate. The food here is just sad - I do better at home. They set the plates down and I could just tell it was going to be mediocre, and I was right. The only thing I enjoyed was the Mexican Coke. Went to this restaurant for the first time to check it out. I will say this right from the get go. If you love fresh warm, soft, great tasting homemade tortillas, they have the best ones here. The establishment is close to downtown, and the size of the restaurant is of medium size with tables and booths made available. There are outside tables as well. The staff were friendly, and our waitress was professional, and very attentive to us. When we asked her about the hot sauce she brought us a couple of different types to sample which were really on point. I ordered the carne guisada, and my wife ordered the "poco de todo" which was a crispy taco, enchilada, and chalupa I believe. Both dishes of course came with rice and beans. The pics don't do justice but the flavors were there. The rice had the right blend of spices, not too dry or too moist, tasty for sure. The refried beans had a very good flavor too. A little runny for me but still a great flavor as beans should taste if you like beans. The carne guisada was delicious. The meat pieces were just the right size, and so flavorful as well. The portions were on point for the price. For ordering these Mexican dishes, the right blend of spices like garlic, comino, salt, pepper, and onion were in these dishes which are flavors that are necessary for me to be able to live a Mexican dish. No complaints there. Did I tell you the taste of the salsas? Oh my goodness. Sooo good. Great taste and a great variety to choose from, mild or spicy, green or red. Take your pick. All in all you won't be disappointed in great tasting Mexican food that serve you fresh homemade flour tortillas. I gave it a four. Reason for the four is because it is not as intimate as I would prefer. It gets busy, and a little loud. Stopped for some breakfast tacos on the way to the F1 practices on Friday morning. Got there early but the staff were super positive and welcoming. Taco options were broad, and offered both homemade flour and corn tortillas.
