I have to say the food was very good, and the service not outstanding but acceptable. The ambiance was ok, I found the booths to be small for four grownups. We ordered queso with chili and it was $6. What arrived was a very small bowl the size of a sauce dish. One thing I did not really like was that when our meal was finished, our waitress just showed up with a handheld with a total and tip already added in. I know some places do this for large groups but there was only 4 of us. The total was $90 for three entries, two margaritas, a queso, a coffee and four waters. No iced teas or sodas. Seemed excessive but the way they just bring a handheld with a total, it's impossible to check what is on your check and how much each item was. read more

Good stuff, I enjoyed it a lot! The Cabo plate solves my problem on whether I want enchiladas or chili rellanos, it has both!!! I think I prefer it over the place next door. read more

This little gem is our fave Mexican spot here in town. The food is always fresh and hot, and everything we have had here has been exceptional. Service is always great, even if they are busy. Once in a while, a mariachi band will be playing for the customers, and this can be a tad loud. I personally prefer dining in when they are not playing due to the loud noise is a trigger for my TBI. However, many absolutely enjoy the show. They also offer a couple of tables out front if you'd like to dine outside. Definitely a MUST for anyone driving thru town to try. Our favorite for sure! read more

I love this place, they never miss. The service and food is always great. Ask for the most spiciest salsa

Nabbed a dinner here. Ordered Carne Guisada and Enchiladas Rojos filled with ground beef. Pretty comfy and filling meal. If you're looking to be impressed flavor-wise, I wouldn't recommend coming here for that purpose; there are alternatives which would leave a better impression on your taste buds. That said, I enjoyed the salsa they provide with the chips. It packed a nice amount of heat, but not so hot as to auto-activate hiccups. Also enjoyed the Melon Agua Fresca and Horchata, though on the slightly sweeter side. Service was great; the staff are quite friendly, sweet, and on point. Our enchilada and carne Guisada mains were edible. But they didn't speak to me or bring me to paradise. Some rice kernels were rock hard. The charro beans were recommended over the refried beans, but they were also pretty light on flavor. The carne guisada was tender; the gravy was beefy. The enchiladas were quite plain; the ground beef within tasted quite clean. The bathrooms are in the back, up a slight ramp. One of them is handicapped accessible; the other one is not. Paintings adorn the restaurant walls and bathroom walls. read more

A perfect option for a Sunday brunch in Lockhart! I got a cheap $9 Lockhart burrito and it was everything I wanted and needed. Eggs, cheese, beans, potatoes and bacon wrapped in a big homemade tortilla. 2 delicious salsas are on the table to try with your meal. Service was fast, accurate and friendly. The space is bigger than it looks from the outside, and there was no wait. There is beautiful art on the walls along with many many awards for La Cantera. We will definitely be back! read more

Good food but the service was lacking. Self seating and we waited 10 mins before a waitress came over to take our drink order. Another 10 mins passed when another waitress took our drink order again because the original waitress never placed our original drink order. We placed our food order and once we received our food, we never say our waitress again. When we were ready for the bill, we had to get another waitress to check us out. Again food was good but the service needs some work read more

I wanted it to be great but it was like just Ok and kind of expensive?!! The chips reminded me of the big bag at Sam's! lol The salsa was weak and my 8.50 guacamole starter was full of way to much lettuce?!! Enchiladas Verde were just ok and kind of bland and tough. Go next door and get yourself some nice barbecue and save the Mexican food for San Antonio! read more

Lunch Pork chop plate is one of the best I've had. And I'm pretty picky . I took the picture before there was nothing left sorry . I will most certainly come back with friends and family . My only ragret ( not a single letter ) was not ordering both corn & flour tortillas. I should have spread butter on them but they were that good that I forgot . The rice was perfectly cooked , the borracho beans had bacon & yummy . I feel like a million bucks after this brunch!! Adios amigos read more

This best food in Lockhart. Nicest staff. The food is super consistent. It's pretty simple. Everything works why change it. Classic

Service was good very quick to seat us with how busy they were. Waitress was quick and friendly and gave us great recommendations. Food was wonderful, ordered huevos con chorizo, best refried beans and green sauce of my life. The pictures we forgot to take before we started eating , so sorry about the bites in them. read more

New to the area and this is our GoTo every Sunday after church. We are always greeted with smiles and great hospitality!! The wait time is worth it. Grant it, not all waiters/waitress's are on point. Our initial visit we had a FANTASTIC experience all the way around. Yet, we have not seen this waitress again :( Note: She did request to be off on Sunday's so we are hoping this is the case lol - Food is great. The atmosphere is perfect and welcoming. The waiting staff is a hit or miss. Still a spot we enjoy read more

Just had lunch here and we both enjoyed the taco salads. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Our food arrived quickly and it was during the lunch hours read more

I feel terrible leaving such a poorly-rated review, but the food is straight up not good here. The queso is 100% Velveeta. The elotes were hot, soggy, and unseasoned. I ordered fajitas, my Mom ordered the enchiladas, and my brother ordered a fried chicken plate. The food here is just sad - I do better at home. They set the plates down and I could just tell it was going to be mediocre, and I was right. The only thing I enjoyed was the Mexican Coke. The only reason I'm rating La Cantera 2 stars is because the staff are BEYOND sweet. I felt so bad lying to Leo every time he asked if the food was good. It's not, Leo, it really isn't. read more

Went to this restaurant for the first time to check it out. I will say this right from the get go. If you love fresh warm, soft, great tasting homemade tortillas, they have the best ones here. The establishment is close to downtown, and the size of the restaurant is of medium size with tables and booths made available. There are outside tables as well. The staff were friendly, and our waitress was professional, and very attentive to us. When we asked her about the hot sauce she brought us a couple of different types to sample which were really on point. I ordered the carne guisada, and my wife ordered the "poco de todo" which was a crispy taco, enchilada, and chalupa I believe. Both dishes of course came with rice and beans. The pics don't do justice but the flavors were there. The rice had the right blend of spices, not too dry or too moist, tasty for sure. The refried beans had a very good flavor too. A little runny for me but still a great flavor as beans should taste if you like beans. The carne guisada was delicious. The meat pieces were just the right size, and so flavorful as well. The portions were on point for the price. For ordering these Mexican dishes, the right blend of spices like garlic, comino, salt, pepper, and onion were in these dishes which are flavors that are necessary for me to be able to live a Mexican dish. No complaints there. Did I tell you the taste of the salsas? Oh my goodness. Sooo good. Great taste and a great variety to choose from, mild or spicy, green or red. Take your pick. All in all you won't be disappointed in great tasting Mexican food that serve you fresh homemade flour tortillas. I gave it a four. Reason for the four is because it is not as intimate as I would prefer. It gets busy, and a little loud. Our food took longer to get to us than what we would of wanted but overall a great place to eat. Go check it out. read more

Great Mexican food. Not to be confused with Tex-mex. They have the best beans and tortillas!!! I will be back. Thanks again

I felt like changing it up , and I've never been so glad I did because I found this place. The breakfast was a large portion, and the tortillas were unbelievable. The service was outstanding, and friendly. They do have the option to go, if you are in a hurry. The old charm of the building, brings you back to the yester years in downtown Lockhart. Stopped for some breakfast tacos on the way to the F1 practices on Friday morning. Got there early but the staff were super positive and welcoming. Taco options were broad, and offered both homemade flour and corn tortillas. Great little place off the square in Lockhart. Food was good (Tilapia fish tacos) and atmosphere was very chill.

Had nice casual lunch with friends. Street tacos were delicious. Had to park on the street nearby. Reasonable price.

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in town! Their homemade flour tortillas are to die for, which makes any of their breakfast tacos delicious! The lunch menu is just as good! The staff are friendly and accommodating. I order from here at least once a week. I haven't had anything to eat here that I didn't absolutely love. read more
