We were passing through and decided to stop for some breakfast (bad idea). For one the waitresses don't listen after they ask what you would like to eat. I asked for pancake plate and sugar free syrup with sausage AND bacon. They bring the food out with no sausage and regular syrup and look surprised when I asked them where the sausage was and the sugar free syrup. The food was mediocre and way overpriced IMO. read more

Lunch here was perfect! They had a soup special and I decided to try it out. The soup was so good- lots of vegetables and meat! The jalepeno cornbread on the side was the perfect match!! I spent a week in Lockhart and stumbled upon Lockhart Cafe for lunch. Located next to a somewhat seedy motel, and not much of a looker itself, Lockhart Cafe is not somewhere you go for the ambiance. But, it's the type of no-frills casual spot that has some charm in itself. The menu contains a mix of casual American and Mexican fare. I went with the chimichanga which comes with rice and beans. Rather than your typical burrito ingredients and a fried tortilla, this is a different take on the chimichanga. Here, you get a burrito with ground beef and melted cheese. While it wasn't what I was expecting, it was still pretty solid. The chimichanga was flavorful even though I'm not the biggest fan of ground meat. When I do tacos or burritos, I typically get steak or a fancier protein like that. Service was friendly. read more

This place is a hidden gem. The hours deterred us from visiting in the past and the location isn't great considering it's right next to the motel (you wouldn't know this was a restaurant unless you lived here), but who doesn't love trying out new places. We have had the club sandwich, very good. Pancakes tasted like actual cake batter so obviously those were great! The breakfast tacos are amazing as well. The only dislike I had was that the waitress walked away and didn't return for quite some time while I was waiting inside for my to go order and she was the only one working the front of the restaurant. We've always passed by this café place but we've never ever stopped and try it out. I think it's because it looks outdated from the outside, so I never knew if it was really still in business. We usually go to La Cantera for breakfast in Lockhart but my husband was asking is there were any other place in Lockhart that we can try and don't get me wrong we love La Cantera. So I told him about a Lockhart Cafe and I googled it and it said it was open so we decided to try it. This place really reminds me of a home made breakfast. Everything was so good. Their pancakes were delicious. My husband actually liked them more than La Canteras, the only thing we weren't very pleased with was the egg and bean taco. I could be wrong, but I feel like the beans were canned beans. My son did not like it which is weird because he loves beans so I tasted it and that's why I'm thinking they were canned beans cause it tasted like canned beans. The coffee was so good nice and strong. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. This place is not a fancy modern place, but it definitely makes you feel like you're eating at your grandmas house. We are looking forward to going back. We really enjoyed our visit and the food. The parking is decent and they have a lot of outdoor seating as well. read more

The food was ok at best. The hash browns are literally a frozen patty type from Sam's Club or the like. The coffee was strong & a bit bitter. Worst overall was the smell when you walk in & sitting. It smelled like a sewer back up or something. It was very strong & off putting. The staff was very nice, but we do not recommend it until they can fix that sewer smell at the minimum. read more

Found this place while driving through town looking for a place to eat. Despite its small size, the inside can fit parties of 6 or less. We only arrived for the breakfast/lunch part of the day. I got the chicken quesadilla appetizer since I wasn't as hungry as the rest of the party. Nevertheless it was a delicious and scrumptious snack. Other meals (pictured) that my family got were the torta w/al pastor meat, grilled cheese, tacos de barbacoa, and pancakes. Because we arrived during the lunch rush, people began to pour in and the 2 servers gathered more work. We had the waffle breakfast plates. The eggs and bacon were cooked the way I like them. The service was not as I would have liked it. We waited way too long for coffee refill-and this was not a busy morning. Twenty made several attempts to get waitress attention. My first time here came with my SO. Service was slow which was the reason for the star deduction. Sweet tea was good. I really liked my breakfast tacos and my SO enjoyed his breakfast plates. We have a project in town and we have made to rounds a few time so adding another location in our rotation is a delight especially when the food is scrumptious. Pleasantly surprised by the GREAT meal, the FRIENDLY staff & VERY clean atmosphere. Very "HOMEY" feel. My kids & I have passed by this place many times over the years. Looked good, wish it would have been on Texas Toast, might ask that next time. Also came with fries or chips, we got more fries. 3. Caldo de Res: (traditional Mexican soup) Normally comes in a large bowl with a plate of rice & tortillas. We got it in 3 smaller bowls, added the rice to the soup and I got stingy with the tortillas :). We were so excited when the soup came because it smelled so good, we almost forgot to eat our fries..ALMOST. MENU: Lots of choices Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner - Seafood, Mexican & American - Burgers, Tacos, Salads, Soups, Sandwiches, & even Desserts! *just to name what I recall* $ PRICE: was just right. Found this restaurant through a friend who was bringing us Migas breakfast tacos from here. The tacos were excellent so we decided to check out the restaurant. They have a full menu, from Hamburgers to Mexican Food, fajitas, sandwiches, etc..... Prices are reasonable, staff and owner are friendly, and the place is very clean. Next door to Whataburger. Hours are unusual as they open at 5:30 am and close at 2:00 pm. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Out of town from Houston going to visit Austin and camped the night so decided to try out this place. Definitely going to come back when I'm in the area. Service was good, food was definitely good. I just had a terrible experience there! I ordered boneless buffalo wings and my girlfriend ordered a burger. Ten minutes later, the waitress asked me if it was boneless or bone-in wings. I reminded her that I ordered boneless. They bring out the burger, no wings. Ten minutes later, they bring out bone-in wings. Again, I tell her boneless, so they take them back. My girlfriend was already finished eating by the time I get my food, which was almost an hour! When ringing up our check, I could see they were charging us in full, so I asked them if they were. See asked a man who I assume was the owner. He said "yes, we are charging you in full". After seeing that I was not at all happy, he says "if you come back I will make it up to you next time." I've been in several times and the service has been consistently perfect: quick, genuinely friendly.... the atmosphere is pleasant and open with plenty of seating options for a party of any size.... the chips and salsa starters are the best in town, (yes, I've tried everywhere in town) ... the food is fresh and well prepared, the barbacoa is highly recommended..... the horchata is freshly made, as are the chips each morning.
