Our first time visiting, and embarrassing to say that being we've lived here for 4.5 years now. What can I say, we are creatures of habit. The place is small, however, they do have outside seating if need be. This place reminds me somewhat of a Waffle House, in the sense of you walk in, take a seat, and they will get to ya when they get to ya. They do aknowledge ya tho. Friendly too. Decent amount of options available to choose from, including breakfast all day. Depending on when ya go, it could be crowded and noisy, or not bad at all. Definitely a spot where certain locals seem to go on a regular basis. The food was okay. I mean, nothing I'd write home to mama about. Not like a "slap yo mama" type meal. It was edible. And definitely made a turd. We did enjoy it as it was something different for us. And, our waitress was very kind. read more

Ordered beef fajitas, got chicken. Queso was described as VEGETARIAN, but had beef in it. I ordered three tacos and got ONE tiny 1oz container of salsa. Most likely would not order again. read more

Good food for a good price. The waitresses are always friendly. It is an older place, could use a face lift.

Food was really good and quick to come out. We went here after a race and it really hit the spot. The workers are very nice and helpful.

I visited Lockhart Cafe on 6/13/2026 for the first time. I had always wanted to try it and was excited that we finally had the opportunity to go. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by a very inappropriate interaction with our waitress, an older woman who took our order. While taking our order, she looked at my husband and me, then looked over our children and asked, "Where did you get these kids from?" My husband and I are both very fair-skinned, while our children have darker complexions. The comment was shocking and completely inappropriate. Because my children were hungry and we didn't have time to go elsewhere, we stayed and ate. Later, when I went to pay after my husband had taken the children outside, the waitress brought up my children again. I explained that her comment was rude and inappropriate. She then tried to change what she had said, claiming she was asking which one of us was the biological parent. Not only is that different from what she originally asked, but it still would have been an inappropriate and personal question to ask customers. I left feeling disgusted by how we were treated. No family should have to answer questions or face assumptions about their children while trying to enjoy a meal together. To make matters worse, the restroom had no soap and no toilet paper available. The lack of soap raises concerns about proper handwashing and hygiene practices. This was my first visit, and sadly, it was not the welcoming experience I had hoped for. read more

Lunch here was perfect! They had a soup special and I decided to try it out. The soup was so good- lots of vegetables and meat! The jalepeno cornbread on the side was the perfect match!! I dipped the bread in the soup and it was great! The service is really excellent!! Workers are super welcoming and warm. The restaurant has a very cozy and casual vibe. Super clean and simple. Love the wall decor around the place- makes it feel like you're eating at home. Would give this place a try for lunch if you are in the area read more

We were passing through and decided to stop for some breakfast (bad idea). For one the waitresses don't listen after they ask what you would like to eat. I asked for pancake plate and sugar free syrup with sausage AND bacon. They bring the food out with no sausage and regular syrup and look surprised when I asked them where the sausage was and the sugar free syrup. The food was mediocre and way overpriced IMO. read more

Excellent breakfast! I had biscuits and gravy with eggs bacon and homefries which really hit the spot. In fact. I was so hungry almost forgot to get a picture, so, sorry already ate some in this picture! Overall a pretty plain simple local place with very friendly service, every one was very welcoming. Special shout out to Jayla, our server, who treated us so well. read more

Lockhart Cafe - Delicious - American Near Me - Lockhart, Texas

A true hole in the wall cafe frequented by its regular local customers. I had a caldo de res and it was very good. Plain, good food. No frills. Service was acceptable. read more

Nice people, feels like your in a home, good food. We had breakfast, it was all delicious.

I spent a week in Lockhart and stumbled upon Lockhart Cafe for lunch. Located next to a somewhat seedy motel, and not much of a looker itself, Lockhart Cafe is not somewhere you go for the ambiance. But, it's the type of no-frills casual spot that has some charm in itself. The menu contains a mix of casual American and Mexican fare. I went with the chimichanga which comes with rice and beans. Rather than your typical burrito ingredients and a fried tortilla, this is a different take on the chimichanga. Here, you get a burrito with ground beef and melted cheese. While it wasn't what I was expecting, it was still pretty solid. The chimichanga was flavorful even though I'm not the biggest fan of ground meat. When I do tacos or burritos, I typically get steak or a fancier protein like that. Service was friendly. read more

This place is a hidden gem. The hours deterred us from visiting in the past and the location isn't great considering it's right next to the motel (you wouldn't know this was a restaurant unless you lived here), but who doesn't love trying out new places. We have had the club sandwich, very good. Pancakes tasted like actual cake batter so obviously those were great! The breakfast tacos are amazing as well. The only dislike I had was that the waitress walked away and didn't return for quite some time while I was waiting inside for my to go order and she was the only one working the front of the restaurant. Other than that it was great for this little town. read more

We've always passed by this café place but we've never ever stopped and try it out. I think it's because it looks outdated from the outside, so I never knew if it was really still in business. We usually go to La Cantera for breakfast in Lockhart but my husband was asking is there were any other place in Lockhart that we can try and don't get me wrong we love La Cantera. So I told him about a Lockhart Cafe and I googled it and it said it was open so we decided to try it. This place really reminds me of a home made breakfast. Everything was so good. Their pancakes were delicious. My husband actually liked them more than La Canteras, the only thing we weren't very pleased with was the egg and bean taco. I could be wrong, but I feel like the beans were canned beans. My son did not like it which is weird because he loves beans so I tasted it and that's why I'm thinking they were canned beans cause it tasted like canned beans. The coffee was so good nice and strong. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. This place is not a fancy modern place, but it definitely makes you feel like you're eating at your grandmas house. We are looking forward to going back. We really enjoyed our visit and the food. The parking is decent and they have a lot of outdoor seating as well. read more

Found this place while driving through town looking for a place to eat. Despite its small size, the inside can fit parties of 6 or less. We only arrived for the breakfast/lunch part of the day. I got the chicken quesadilla appetizer since I wasn't as hungry as the rest of the party. Nevertheless it was a delicious and scrumptious snack. Other meals (pictured) that my family got were the torta w/al pastor meat, grilled cheese, tacos de barbacoa, and pancakes. Because we arrived during the lunch rush, people began to pour in and the 2 servers gathered more work. However, they remained attentive and continuously checked in on us for refills and asking us about our meal. read more

Best breakfast tacos in town. Wish they were open for supper. Great holiday menu. Breakfast Tacos are the best. read more

The food was ok at best. The hash browns are literally a frozen patty type from Sam's Club or the like. The coffee was strong & a bit bitter. Worst overall was the smell when you walk in & sitting. It smelled like a sewer back up or something. It was very strong & off putting. The staff was very nice, but we do not recommend it until they can fix that sewer smell at the minimum. read more

The service was nice, friendly, and quick. I like a good dive, but only if the food is amazing and you think it could still pass a health inspection. This was dirty and dark, not my kind of dive. The food was so so. I had breakfast tacos. The flavors were bland. I rarely add salt and pepper, but I had to here. read more

We had the waffle breakfast plates. The eggs and bacon were cooked the way I like them. The service was not as I would have liked it. We waited way too long for coffee refill-and this was not a busy morning. Twenty made several attempts to get waitress attention. My fork was a kids size fork; this probably was the worst part of breakfast. read more

My first time here came with my SO. Service was slow which was the reason for the star deduction. Sweet tea was good. I really liked my breakfast tacos and my SO enjoyed his breakfast plates. Tacos are average size and priced accordingly as is most things on the menu. Overall I would probably come back unless I was in a rush. read more

Pleasantly surprised by the GREAT meal, the FRIENDLY staff & VERY clean atmosphere. Very "HOMEY" feel. My kids & I have passed by this place many times over the years. We have seen the ownership change like the tide, but after taking a chance today, and finding a truly great restaurant, LOCKHART CAFE will definitely be a weekly affair for this family. What did we have you may ask? Well, we decided since it was our first time, we'd go with some comfort foods, family style and share. Soup & Sandwiches!! 1. Club sandwich: was very yummy and portioned well. Fries were just right. 2. Grilled cheese: (I didn't personally get to try this one because my 3 y/o ate the entire thing so I assume it was great! ). Looked good, wish it would have been on Texas Toast, might ask that next time. Also came with fries or chips, we got more fries. 3. Caldo de Res: (traditional Mexican soup) Normally comes in a large bowl with a plate of rice & tortillas. We got it in 3 smaller bowls, added the rice to the soup and I got stingy with the tortillas :). We were so excited when the soup came because it smelled so good, we almost forgot to eat our fries..ALMOST. MENU: Lots of choices Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner - Seafood, Mexican & American - Burgers, Tacos, Salads, Soups, Sandwiches, & even Desserts! *just to name what I recall* $ PRICE: was just right. Nothing was outrageously priced and very comparable to the other family style restaurants in Lockhart. STAFF: Very nice, attentive, and accommodating. A must for a single Mom with 2 young children. CLEANLINESS: Immaculate. Even the restrooms (which is usually my #1 complaint) were spotless. The Staff could be seen cleaning constantly between orders. (I love to see that.) As the saying goes..."JUST TRY IT, YOU MIGHT LIKE IT", I know we did! read more

Second time having lunch here and the first time was superb. Found this restaurant through a friend who was bringing us Migas breakfast tacos from here. The tacos were excellent so we decided to check out the restaurant. They have a full menu, from Hamburgers to Mexican Food, fajitas, sandwiches, etc..... Prices are reasonable, staff and owner are friendly, and the place is very clean. Next door to Whataburger. Hours are unusual as they open at 5:30 am and close at 2:00 pm. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Food is pretty good. Staff was not very welcoming and friendly as last time..........

I just had a terrible experience there! I ordered boneless buffalo wings and my girlfriend ordered a burger. Ten minutes later, the waitress asked me if it was boneless or bone-in wings. I reminded her that I ordered boneless. They bring out the burger, no wings. Ten minutes later, they bring out bone-in wings. Again, I tell her boneless, so they take them back. My girlfriend was already finished eating by the time I get my food, which was almost an hour! When ringing up our check, I could see they were charging us in full, so I asked them if they were. See asked a man who I assume was the owner. He said "yes, we are charging you in full". After seeing that I was not at all happy, he says "if you come back I will make it up to you next time." That is terrible customer service. I would not recommend it. read more

I've been in several times and the service has been consistently perfect: quick, genuinely friendly.... the atmosphere is pleasant and open with plenty of seating options for a party of any size.... the chips and salsa starters are the best in town, (yes, I've tried everywhere in town) ... the food is fresh and well prepared, the barbacoa is highly recommended..... the horchata is freshly made, as are the chips each morning. Good people, great service, perfect meals. I think a supermodel works there (girl with the braids), but I'm not sure. read more
