In this place, some skewers can be cooked in front of you (like the plum skewers). The servers recommended to cook it for 15 mins. Thanks to my friend Andie for introducing me to this place. Our group of three came in to enjoy so meat skewers and ma la tang and for the most part this place did not disappoint. Luogong is made for groups with comfortable booths throughout and even large semi private rooms along one side. The decor is very colorful and I like the designs on the panels on the partitions. The main draw here are the skewers. Each table has an automatic skewer grills with the skewers having little sprockets on the end where the gears fit along the grill allowing them to rotate back and forth automatically. We got some lamb, mala lamb and pork rib skewers are each one was basically $2.. (an order of 5 is $10). They aren't the largest skewers - basically yakitori sized. I thought the flavor was good. Ask for the cumin/sesame powder which enhances the flavor of the meat. We also got a mala tang with lamb which my friend asked for "very spicy" because the last time she was here she felt it wasn't spicy enough. I think she regretted the request and found it was too spicy - maybe next time Goldilocks will find it just right haha. I enjoyed it, but I tend to have a high spicy heat tolerance. We also ordered this fried mushroom with pork floss dish which was tasty and provided a contrast to the skewers and malatang. I didn't realize this dish was $28 and it made me go hmmm, that's some pricey mushrooms. They give you a lot so it's good for a group. The service was very attentive - we came in on a Monday so it wasn't overly busy, but perhaps more than I thought it would be. There were some ballers sitting next to us ordered lamb chops, and large oysters which are some of the menus higher priced items. The lamb chops are cooked in the back and prepped at the table with the server slicing up the meat making for easier eating. Overall I enjoyed it here. I like the large parking lot with easy parking. Skewers!!!! Need I say more?!?! Hahaha. Who doesn't like skewers? I usually get my meat skewers from street carts, so when I learned of Luogong Skewers, I was jonesing to go! Luogong Skewers is located in a small shopping center, right next door to H-Mart. Parking in the lot was easy, which I appreciated since parking in this neighborhood can be challenging. They have a huge menu, so picking which skewers to try was hard! Haha They all sounded so good. But on this visit, there was only 3 of us, so we picked 3 different skewers to try. You can have the skewers cooked for you in their kitchen, or you can cook them yourself in the BBQ Grill at your table. We opted to cook them ourselves. The skewers are on metal sticks that rotate automatically for even cooking. Make sure you put the skewers sticks correctly on their tracks! I would suggest to put your grill on a high temperature to get the BBQ sear and flavors; otherwise you will be waiting a while for your meats to cook and they won't have that delicious BBQ sear taste. But don't be surprised when the flames randomly flair up! It's quite a visual! Once the meats are cooked to your preference, you can move the skewers to the upper rack to keep them warm without overcooking them. Note that they will give you plates of the house hot sauce, which is terrific! They will also come around to give you a seasoning made of cumin and sesame seeds. Also, on the table, are 3 different types of dry chilis. Whichever seasoning you use, I'm sure they will compliment your skewers nicely. I tried a few varieties and they were all good. Here is our Menu (shared by 3 ppl): ~ Mala Pork Rib Skewers (5 skewers/$10): Great! The mala flavors were mild, so add more spice if you prefer spicier. ~ Mala Lamb Skewers (5 skewers/$10): Also Great! The mala flavors were mild, so add more spice if you prefer spicier. ~ Luogong Beef Skewers (10 skewers/$20): Great! All of the skewers are great. ~ Kimchi Fried Rice ($12): Just ok, and could have used more kimchi. The flavors were very one-note. I actually added some soy beans from the ban chan to give the rice more texture. I would also add some chilis. ~ Mala Tang Dry Hot Pot ($20+$1 for seafood): (comes with a bowl of white rice). This Mala was actually good n spicy! Good amount of seafood and veggies. Very flavorful. But next time, I would skip the seafood and try the lamb version. ~ Vegetable Pancake (complimentary): my mistake was thinking this was a scallion pancake. It had some scallions in it but it's definitely not a scallions pancake. It was kinda bland, seemed undercooked and wasn't crispy at all. But still, thank you for the chance to try it! Note that the meat on all the skewers were small sized. This was good for cooking purposes, and you didn't have to wait too long before your skewers are ready to eat. However, on a value standpoint, you don't really get the value for what you paid for. Still, the skewers were the highlight of our meal. Customer service was efficient, friendly and helpful. There is a slight language barrier with some of the staff but there was always someone to help when needed. There are a few private rooms which seats 6 ppl but most of their regular tables can also easily seat 6 ppl. There are also tables for 2 ppl. This place seems new and helpful for ordering a ton of skewers. What I love is the automatic rotation of the skewers without you having to flip them and the rack above to let the oil drain without overcooking them until they're burnt. Most of the lamb, beef, and pork skewers are marinated well or tasty with their dry sesame seasoning mix. Each morsel is tender and bite-sized for kids and seniors to chew easily. Save room for some of their dishes, like the grilled squid and stuffed mushrooms with shrimp and fish roe. In particular, I liked their black pepper beef skewer cooked with raw egg yolk brushed on it for a tender, juicy, and flavorful mix accentuated by their different seasoning options. The booth style seating with exhaust works well to ensure your clothes don't smell from the grilling and oils. In addition, they have a bell to ring for prompt, friendly, and helpful service. Parking is ample in this lot or nearby streets. It's next to H-Mart, which makes it convenient to shop afterwards to digest and burn some calories walking down those aisles. Could definitely seeing this be a popular late night spot. For the 3 of us, we ordered a few skewers (beef (10), mala lamb (5), pork belly & enoki (4), fish balls (5), fish tofu (5), and squid (1)), as well as the garlic seafood foil pot. I loved the interactive experience of being able to grill your own skewers on their rotating grill. The beef & lamb skewers came raw, but I was a bit surprised to find that all the other skewers came cooked. I wish they had a few more items that we could cook to our liking instead. But regardless, these were all pretty tasty, especially when the tableside seasoning was added! The skewers are already a bit marinated and seasoned to begin with, but the seasoning amps it up for the classic skewers taste. The seafood foil pot was full of garlicky goodness and vermicelli noodles; it definitely needed a rice though to help balance out some of the saltiness. I also appreciated that they provided a few free sides to help as a palate cleanser, considering some of their salads were like $15. I didn't get a chance to peep the bill, but the prices here do seems to be a little bit on the mid/pricier end for skewers. The overall ambiance here is great though. The booths are pretty comfortable and spacious if you have a party of 2 or 4. While the pictures may look delicious, the lamb was decent in many ways but the portion size for the money was meh. Don't be fooled by the pictures, the meat is really tiny! The grill also rotates while it cooks the skewers, but took so long. You're just sitting there for such a long time waiting for the skewers to cook. You run out of things to even talk about. They loved the crispy sweet and sour pork, tofu sheets with hot green pepper, and traditional rice sausages. I loved the tteok (sticky rice cake with red bean crumbles). The service was prompt and attentive. We asked for to go servings of the free side dishes which we love and they gave us a generous helping. They don't explain the proper usage method of their in-table grills, which mine obviously had issues, but they sure didn't skip a beat to blame me directly for the grease flames that occur because their water pan wasn't handled properly. Their restrooms were blazing hot but everyone that works there seems to think this is normal. Ambiance is as advertised, but ruined by poorly taped-on February Christmas decorations with a depleted and dangling battery pack. They informed us upon ordering that they offered complimentary vegetable pancakes for orders over $50, which is great. Unfortunately we had to ask for this when it still had not arrived at the table and we were almost done with our meal. We were met with a disappointing, cold and undercooked pancake with barely any vegetables. It was either a promotional move or a kind gesture for them to offer the table raw marinated crab free of charge.
