Lulu's is conveniently located in Shockoe Bottom next to Main Street Station and an awkward place to find for out-of -towners. We had a larger party (5+) and per their policy, could not be seated until the rest of the party arrived: annoying but understandable. We finally sat and ordered. The food took a little longer than normal to arrive, and it wasn't really worth the wait. Some of my party ordered chorizo frittata, others ordered some version of shrimp and grits, and others ordered something akin to a breakfast sandwich. Everything was okay. Just okay. Potatoes were well-seasoned. The shrimp and grits dishes were savory but lacked the special extra that'd make them worth re-ordering. Biscuits were ginormous and fluffy but bordered on doughy in the middle. The egg-based dishes tasted like something I could've made at home - and I'm a mediocre cook. Contrary to some of the other reviews, the service was actually quite good. Well it was good up until the end where the server practically threw our check at us once we mentioned we needed to split the bill in three. The bottom line? There is nothing to commend Lulu's food above other places, but it's a solid place to start the day. Perhaps our expectations were too high, but the food just didn't live up to the hype. The drink menu looked fun and boozy, and I would come back again just to try some of the seasonal drinks. I made a reservation for New Years Day. We arrived and noticed that everything around the restaurant looked kind of run down. There's a lot of construction going on. Maybe once all that clears up, the area will look better. Anyhoo, we arrived and were seated near the window. The place was packed. There's no real area for you to wait in, so if you have to wait, you'll just be crowding around the door. Seeing the place so packed, we knew we should order quickly, as our server was busy. I ordered the red velvet waffles. My husband ordered the chicken biscuit and gravy. We waited. And waited. And waited. After about 20 minutes, the server came over and told us that the food was on it's way out. We waited longer. Finally, after about 10 more minutes, the food was out. I went to butter my waffle and the butter didn't melt. It was cold - the waffle, that is. Not seeing my server and being hungry as hell, I dug in. The waffle, bacon, and potatoes were all cold. My husband's food was piping hot. You could see the steam. Having eaten a portion of my waffle, I saw the server and flagged her down. I told her, "This waffle is cold. But I'm hungry and will press on. But I thought I'd let you know that this isn't warm food that I waited 30 minutes for." She apologized and said she would remove it from the check. I thought that was very nice of her. She let us know that 3 people had called out that day and that they were very short-staffed. Bummer. I scored this as a 4 based on food/drinks alone. If I were to include the other things I list below it would have been a 3, maybe even a 2.... We made a reservation to meet friends for brunch - a couple of things you should know... Be sure to make a reservation AND make sure you are on time and your entire party shows up. They won't seat you until they are all there and only give you 10 minutes beyond the reservation time before they give away your table. Tables are a bit on top of each other, we had a 6-top table with a chair shoved up to it for our 7th person. The gal at the end of the table was literally touching the table behind her, it was almost like she was dining with them. It was loud, they've shoved as many tables and chairs as they can fit into the place and have very little set up for sound-dampening. There were only 7 of us and I really could only talk to the 4 people on my side of the table. Food - I ordered Steak Benny, the filet mignon was cooked PERFECTLY the egg was poached perfectly. This dish was fantastic. I had a Tropical Mimosa (yum) and a Pomegranate Mule that was super terrific. Everyone ordered something different and was pleased with their food choice. The food was truly amazing and the drink options were plentiful. They do a terrific business even though the street was closed while they re-do the Farmer's Market. While everyone seemed to love the food and drinks, I'm not sure that this is on my 'must visit every time I'm in town' list. It truly is noisy and I would have been VERY uncomfortable if I was that last chair at the end of the table. I was very briefly in Richmond and wanted to find a brunch place near the Edgar Allen Poe Museum. LuLu's was highly recommended, so I walked from my hotel to here. I grabbed a spot at the bar and sated my appetite on the corned beef hash and a biscuit. Both were delicious. The corned beef hash is big chunks of brisket, chopped potatoes, and two perfectly poached eggs. It had such a great flavor. I wish more places did the CBH like this. read more

Since my roommate and I heard so much about the infamous red velvet waffle, Lulu's was on our list of restaurants to try before graduate. Too bad this place didn't live up to the hype. First, the interior is a bit... strange. I have nothing against dolls but man, those dolls on the wall were creeper. Guess I'm just not artistic enough to appreciate it. Service was slow. After a long waiting time (and we had a reservation), we were seated in a dark corner and promptly being forgotten. Our waitress consistently forgot to bring us our water despite us reminding her multiple times. I'm sure she is very busy but seriously, all we want were water... Onto the food, I ordered the special of the day, which I forgot the name, and shared the red velvet waffle for dessert. The entree dish was...okay. Wasn't memorable (hence me forgetting the name of the dish). The red velvet waffle was better but not spectacular. Sure it melt in your mouth and was delightful to look at but it was just waffle. If it wasn't for the red color, I would assume that they mixed up our order and gave us regular waffle instead. So, would I come back to Lulu's again? Sadly, not likely. After having had a disappointing first impression of Lulu's, I gave it another chance and had an awesome dining experience. My friends and I love going out for brunch and we all enjoyed the unique, vast selection on Lulu's menu. For me, standout items include the red velvet waffles (which were prepared perfectly when I went today) and the Atlantic omelette (which they allowed me to alter to omit the bacon.) Lulu's also offers specials that aren't regular to the menu, like today's filet mignon omelette - which was received rave reviews from my friends with whom I was dining. In regards to service, the manager was really nice and understanding and our waitress (her name was Olta, I believe) was very cool and helpful. Service can either make or break one's experience at a restaurant and I always appreciate it when it's friendly. In conclusion, Lulu's has been officially added to the carefully curated list of brunch spots in RVA that my friends and I like and I hope to be back soon! read more

The Atlantic omelette was delicious but my friend who ordered the same meal barely got any lobster and crab. Mine was overloaded with meat which I loved. The food did take a while to come out which gets them 4 stars. The biscuit was a bit dry and my son said he preferred the McDonald's biscuit. We reserved a table and sat down out side to eat brunch and left after 10 minutes due to music being played. Music went through multiple songs and was crude and offensive with cuss words, referring to oral sex, f-ing, sexist language degrading of women, and liberal use of racial slurs. I asked the waiting staff to put our stuff in togo tray and told them the music was offensive, they stated ok and brought us trays. They didn't ask us if they could change anything. By those actions I assume this was ok for their business. I am ok with this due to a private venue and freedom of expression. LuLu's is a super cute and young hangout for brunch/lunch on a Sunday morning. Driving to NC from CT, my husband and I stopped for brunch knowing they were fully reserved. We got lucky as a few bar seats opened up almost immediately. The staff were so friendly, and generous with their drink pours. I had the Florentine and my husband had the special breakfast poutine. I save 5 stars for mind-blowing restaurants, and while LuLu's wasn't 'mind blowing' I wish I could give them a 4.5 for the fun ambiance and delicious options. We'll be back! read more

My boyfriend and I went to Lulu's for the first time for Easter brunch and loved it! I can't believe we didn't go there earlier! Everything about Lulu's was great! The space is simple yet trendy. It has great windows that let in a lot of light and has an open floor plan that can accommodate large parties. They also have a pretty sizable bar! The service was amazing. We were seated almost immediately and the waitress came over right away with waters. She was very friendly and attentive. My boyfriend ordered huevos rancheros and I ordered the red velvet waffles. We also both got drinks. Both of our orders were out in 10 min and arrived hot! We were so surprised with how quick they were, especially since it was Easter! Our food was also amazing! A great brunch spot! I had expected Lulus to be rather small, just like many other popular food places in Richmond, but it was surprisingly pretty spacious. The inside has the booths laid out in a pretty cool looking way and it is very clean. Our waitress was great. She helped my friend and I pick out our dishes, letting us know what her favorites were and which ones were most popular (which was almost every dish). I got the Chorizo Frittata and my friend got the Lobster dish and we both thought they were great. Nice portions, but a little bit on the heavy side. Then again I guess that's just how brunch food usually is. The only reason why im not giving Lulus the whole 5 stars is only because I wasn't amazingly wowed or blown away. She was extremely rude to me and told me there was nothing she could do. I told her I wasn't going to cut people in line to make their "10 min cutoff time". She was extremely rude and told me it would be 30min-1 hour before she could seat me. We left immediately and will not be back. Really good brunch place!!! Good service food was amazing - savory and sweet!!!! We tried the Lulu's Benedict, the Red Velvet Waffle Strawberry Shortcake and the cheeseburger. The eggs benedict was really good with the crunchy english muffin and the sauce went really well with the salt of the ham. The eggs weren't as runny as expected but they were still good. I think the sauce could have had more of a lemon flavor. The cheeseburger was really big with egg and it was really filling. But the mixture of everything in the burger was good. Finally made it to my local brunch place today and got to take the fam from out of town. I have to say it's nice it's in walking distance and we got there shortly after they opened so we didn't have a wait. Our waitress was spectacular keeping all of us high on caffeine with an endless supply of coffee and also waters. My dad and brother got some of the specials - brother got the corned beef and cabbage and it looked AMAZING. The Corned beef was grilled and not fatty in the least. My dad got the lamb omelette... He said it didn't really have a lot of lamb in it but what was there was good. When me and my girlfriend arrived, it was a two and a half hour wait but the hostess told us we could try our chances at sitting at the bar, so we took our chances and were seated within 20 minutes. We started off with these kinda pineapple orange mimosas. We both ordered the Atlantic Omelette, one with a side of cheesy grits and the other with a Red Velvet Waffle on the side. Our server was very friendly and our food came out at a reasonable time. However, I ordered sausage instead of the given bacon and that came out after my meal (waffles) did which was fine since I got an extra side of potatoes by accident! I must say Lulu's is one of my favorite brunch places in the Richmond area. A few friends recommended this restaurant to me and I have been coming back whenever I am in the area. It is tucked off in a busy part of the Shockoe Bottom area so parking can be challenging. There is construction going on right now but don't let it discourage you because the restaurant is open for business. If you can call ahead and make reservations do so because you might be waiting a while for a seat. I like to sit at the bar because the bartenders are amazing and fun to chat with especially the female one I can't think of her name right now sorry lol. But whenever I drop in I always get the atlantic omelet and one to go because it is that good. Admittedly it was Sunday Brunch, but despite having a reservation, getting seated and being served was extremely slow. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the Lulu's Benedict. Huevos Racheros were very hearty and pretty tasty. The Benedict was on par with other Benedicts, however I don't think it came with the correct ham. I say this because there was another variation of a Benedict available that was made with surryano ham, while the Lulu's was made with country ham. The ham I got looked dried and nothing like a slice of country ham and was much crispy and saltier than country ham I've eaten. I know, ham may be ham and they may have their own variation, but I just wasn't used to that texture and flavor. Both dishes came with a side of breakfast potatoes that I felt were over salted, so it was hard for me to appreciate the other seasoning. Ambiance was great for Sunday brunch and I'm sure for other meals. Large windows at the front provided great lighting and I enjoyed sitting at their little booth like tables towards the middle of the restaurant. The bar area seemed really fun to sit as well. Eh, I don't think I'll be coming back honestly. For starters, finding parking is hard in this part of town. This is actually my second time going to LuLu's and it's always like crazy hectic in there. There isn't really a waiting area, which I think would be beneficial because there's definitely limited breathing room. The staff is nice though, very nice! The passionfruit mimosa was great. The chicken and waffles were a complete disappointment. The chicken was fried until it was too hard to cut and although the seasonings were good, they don't pair well with the waffles at all. The waffle itself tasted like playdoh and looked like it on the inside too. I had them switch it out with the french toasts, which were good (but not the best I've had). While me and my friends were waiting for our food, we saw the bartender using her ungloved hands to manipulate the ice in a cup (ie putting her fingers in the cup to push the ice down and mix slightly).
