The chicken fried steak was okay, the mashed potatoes and mac&cheese (bland) , that wait time was definitely not worth it !!!!!!

The chicken fried steak was quite delicious. The staff was friendly and it was reasonable. I thought their gravy was so-so, which of done right would have made it amazing. I am suspicious that it was canned gravy which, come on it's Texas. read more

This place has lots on the menu for sure but I think that could be why the quality of food is sort of average. Don't get me wrong, my food was pretty good but nothing spectacular. I had the grilled chicken deluxe with a loaded baked potato and green beans. The customer service was good and our food was out quickly. It seemed clean to the naked eye. The atmosphere in here is weird... lime green walls. But for this small town, it's not a terrible place to eat. read more

Lucy's Kitchen - Grilled chicken deluxe, baked potato, green beans - American Near Me - Elgin, Texas

OHmygoodness, why is this place still open....It was so disappointing in having our last reunion coordinator order from here...A few of us were shocked to have such ill-tasting and oily food. We did not even want to try to eat a complete portion or anything and the few that did eat their feed; quickly regretted their decisions. We were looking forward to an actual nice luncheon and of course, our coordinator now has to get overall approval to not make this dreaded mistake again...So disappointing that so many small business places have always surprised us in their variety and quality and this one "gets into the mix" and either makes us genuinely sick or disgust...sometimes the hype is not much than just hype...and our sour stomachs (for the few that did eat) to prove otherwise. Guest-be aware and proceed with caution. read more

Talk about above and beyond. This place has the best customer service. We traveled to meet in the middle. Waxahschi. Fredericksburg. The woodlands. Reunion for school girls traveled from kindergarten to high school. Elgin was the pin on the map. Food was great, hugs were sincere. Desert over the top. Go there. ASK FOR EMILY! read more

The food is mediocre. As we were eating breakfast a baby cockroach was just strolling up the wall and hid behind the wall decor. Last bite I ever took. read more

Awesome food clean and friendly. Went in and ordered to go. Waited about 20 minutes and food was still warm enough to eat when I got it home. Breakfast for 3 was a lot of food and the price was right. Definitely recommend. Elgin is up and coming but still Texas strong. Pancakes, eggs, chicken and waffles, omelette's, bacon. Everything breakfast should be. read more

Terrible food, decent service, good coffee. Skip this place and find somewhere better to eat.

Just unbelievable pie! It is really good and the lunches have been wonderful. The chicken liver and onions is so good and cooked perfectly with the onions caramelized perfectly. The chicken fried steak is really tender as well. Looking forward to going back. read more

Man was soooo hungry today . I wanted a bacon cheeseburger but if you want your burger specialty made this is not the place to come . Got both mine and my grandsons order wrong . It took a while for the food to come out so me reordering my food was a no , because I was Hella hungry. The waitress did come out and say she was sorry about the order, but they at least they got the order. What the hell did that mean . Yes you got the order but you got them both wrong . What is hard about No Vegetable! So yes you got someone's order but it was not what I order. My daughter's Taco salad look so good but They could've put a little more fajita meat . I tried it and well the taco shell was good. I don't know if this will be a place I return to . I know this wouldn't be a place to tell anyone about. read more

Lucy's Kitchen - Chicken Fried Steak, scramble eggs, homemade potatoes, bacon, and a delicious biscuit. Oh and white Gravy - American Near Me - Elgin, Texas

Love this place! Great food and service. Love small town cafes. Beats the heck out of chain restaurants. Will be back again!

From what I'm told the folks that ran City Cafe now run Lucy's. The menu has similar items such as the Wildcat sandwich. Whatever the case may be this place is the real deal. We stopped by a few weeks ago for Sunday breakfast. I had chicken fried steak and eggs. Very good. The meat was tender and tasty it wasn't all crust like some places serve you. My wife wanted Ala cart items. Rather than charging for the individual items, our waitress made a combo meal and saved us a bit. We split a half order of biscuits and gravy and still couldn't finish it. Good quality food, great service and great prices means this is our new go to breakfast place. They serve lunch as well. A few weeks later I told my entire family there. I had what was arguably the best hamburger in Bastrop county. (Sorry Roadhouse). My wife and daughter had chicken fried chicken. And my other daughter had the aforementioned Wildcat sandwich (chicken fried steak). The only complaint I had was the fries. There was nothing wrong them, but I'm VERY picky about fries. No biggie. The hamburger was the star. It was homemade. You could tell this was no pre-made frozen patty. It was fresh and hot (another pet peeve of mine is luke warm food), juicy and well seasoned. We took two pieces of cake home fit for later. Italian cream and German chocolate. The cakes were the crown jewel of City Cafe and these are no different. They must be made by the same baker. Please enjoy Lucy's but don't tell too many people about it. Let's keep this as our secret. read more

Gosh the food smelt so good unfortunately I refuse to pay for the service I received and left without my meal. I understand that it was my choice to leave; but I wasn't offered a drink which I wanted, I asked politely about the condiments provided and the already red flags were glaring. It's all good though I spent less at McDonald's and I didn't have to tip. read more

There was no waiting to get a table and drinks were brought quickly. After waiting for 20 minutes, I had to ask the host who our server was because we hadn't been waited on but guests who arrived after us were served first. We waited for over an hour to get our food that I was ready to walk out. Had to ask to have apple juice brought to us 3 times. Don't sit at the table at the front of the building because you don't get good service. read more

I know they were busy, but slow service( others came in behind but got their food before same order as ours) Our food finally got to us, cold onion rings and cool French fries. They replaced the onion rings and French fries but we were almost finished eating.Almost had to get up and wave to get more coffee. Club sandwich and bacon cheeseburger wee good. Bacon a little bit to salty. Mana get/ owner spent time talking to customers with a line of customers waiting to pay. This took time from their jobs. This is our second visit as we are passing thru with the same service and leak of manager experience. read more

This place has great fajitas and is very reasonable prices. It's a local favorite for family dining. The service can be a bit slow, so be prepared to sit and visit for a while. The food is worth the wait. read more

Great old fashioned food and the music , brought back childhood memories ! Very small quaint place

The chicken and mushroom dish is amazing. So is the Cobb salad. The side salad is kind of depressing.

Great southern meat and three! Daily specials. Good food at reasonable prices and great friendly service. And downtown Elgin is charming! read more

I found the food mediocre but reasonably priced. There were six of us and we had one observe the tea was weak and another had a moldy bun. We watched other tables receiving their food but we had ordered first. The menus and silverware are at the door so when they shout 'just sit anywhere' you can grab and go. Everyone entering received this same reception. read more

Yummy! Cute little home town spot. The phone on here is not working but you can wait inside when you order. I got a burger with a slice of pie. So good :) read more

Lucy's is a rare example of a restaurant that was mediocre when first opened but got better and better over time. Most of the time they just get worse and fail. As of this writing daily lunch specials are $5.99 and appear to be the same as the regular menu offerings. You won't go away hungry! The pies and cakes are about the best you are going to find. Period. For a good many years the owner baked desserts for City Cafe. They were highly acclaimed. I personally recommend the fried fish (Friday special) and the Chicken Fried Steak. Wednesday special. Order an extra bowl of gravy. The menu is average American Cafe, however the Mexican Food offerings are very good. Prices, in general, are at least 30% less than comparable restaurants in the Austin metropolitan area. read more

Service is SLLLOOOWWWWW! We've been waiting 45 minutes for a plate of nachos and there's only 5 tables occupied! Not busy at all.

Today we ordered lunch ($82) in at the Taylor location and we are very disappointed. The baked potato was from yesterday, the rolls were stale, 2 fried meat orders didn't come with the gravy we requested. We try hard to give local business OUR business. I go the the Elgin Lucy's after church on Sunday and it's always been amazing. The manager was very apologetic and offered to have replacements available to be picked up, but we aren't close to the restaurant. read more

I liked the chicken fried steak but could use a little more seasoning. The beef fajitas where alright. The last time I was here the food was amazing, but today maybe a different cook . I will try this place again because I know they have potential . The bad thing is I dragged about how good this place was to my family & today was not on point. Dessert was the bomb.com . read more

Thank you so much! I have rarely experienced the acceptance and understanding for my son as I did today. All the staff was so sweet and treated him like a human with feelings! Even customers didnt mind the impromptu Christmas duet! I go through Elgin frequently and this will become a stopping place! Thank you, your staff is exceptional! read more

More of the norm in this area - uninspired and nothing to be that excited about. Nothing was particularly bad but nothing was particularly good. We had the fried mushrooms and they were good. Grilled cheese sandwich had the equivalent of one slice of cheese in it. Fries were along the lines of Ore-Ida crinkle cut. Really nothing special. read more

Good service, prices and portions. Our friend keeps coming back for desserts to the point where he might have a problem.

Their Fried Chicken steak is the best in the town. They seemed to be the only place to have the fried chicken steak. Vegetables are good, but don't know if they are organic, but they are good, fresh, and delicious. read more

Not recommended for anyone who isn't a regular. Meaning someone who eats there everyday. I have eaten there several times and every time I go, several others get their coffee and orders taken before my table. I have watched the clock and have actually sat there for 2 hours before I ate. Watched people get seated, eaten and leave while I am still waiting. I thought it was just me but according to many other towns people it is the normal there if you aren't a regular. Just want to be sure everyone knows before "trying it out" since Elgin is celebrating HOGEYE this weekend. read more

Amazing small town, home cookin joint. Comfort food at its finest! Delicious homemade cakes and pies made fresh!!!

Love Lucy's! Great food. Great price! Wonderful waiters. And the desserts are to die for!!! Well done!

i placed my order an hour ago, when I went to pick it up it still wasn't ready. The lady at the counter was preoccupied flirting with a boy. She messed up my ticket and told me it would take 20 minutes to get a refund! I wanted to speak to someone in charge and their was no one there for me to speak to. Very disappointed with this service. read more

From the outside I didn't know what to expect. Small town and restaurant choices are slim. Walked it and the atmosphere was good, small, nice friendly staff and cute Christmas decor :) Our waiter was awesome, super tentative and just in an overall good mood. Menu threw me off bc it had Mexican food and homestyle choices. We ordered queso for an appetizer, HOLY SHIT that's some badass queso! Chips were delicious too!! I ordered chopped steak and the hubs ordered chicken fried steak. We were both extremely satisfied! As we left to pay at the front, the pies were calling my name!!! I took a chocolate cream Oreo slice to go and my husband got a snickers cheesecake to go! Truth be told, the pie didn't make it to the house, we devoured them in the car!!! Love this place and cannot wait to go again!!!!! read more

Lucy's Kitchen - Yummmm - American Near Me - Elgin, Texas

Lucy's is pretty good. I wish the menu had more traditional American Diner food though.

For a small town restaurant this place us terrible. Food is slow out of the kitchen. We have been a couple of times and average time is an hour to 90 minutes. Last time there we ordered the Philly cheesesteak and it was a piece of roast beef heated up. We were told the owner was in the kitchen but refused to address any issues (there were several other customers had). Suggest try other places in Elgin, this place is not worth your time or money. Will not return. read more

Lucy's Kitchen has great food for a great price. I have never dined inn because of COVID but every time I order from Lucy's to go I order before I get hungry do not expect a fast to go system the 5 times I have order it always takes 45 plus min for food to be ready to go. This is very inconvenient, and no the restaurant is not full when I go pick food up or I would understand. I hope they better their to go system or they will loose me and I know several others that do not order because they take too long . Order time was 8:51 am got to Lucy's at 9:28 am food was not ready waited until 9:42am also this is before pandemic issue. read more

I was looking forward to a delicious lunch special of meatloaf and fries. I called ahead and placed a to go order. Waited 15 minutes and walked on over to Lucy's. Waited inside an additional 40 minutes to have no meatloaf come my way sadly. I spent my entire lunch break watching other people eat and now, the Hanger is real. The service could definitely use some help as there were only two people running the whole floor and we're too busy to actually provide service that didn't feel rushed. When I told the server that I needed to cancel my to go order, because I didn't have time now to even eat it, she looked at me and said, Okay. no apologies. no anything. It was disappointing to say the least. read more
