Wife stuck with her beef enchiladas, but asked for the Chipotle sauce that usually comes with a chicken dish...Super tasty, smoky and a nice little kick of heat. Beans and rice were solid. I saw low ratings and I didn't know if I would like Jalisco. It was not too bad. I would say it's average. They have good salsa even though it may be too spicy for most children and some adults. The menu doesn't have a lot of choices. I would possibly go again and bring family. My son liked the burrito. He said it was okay. The restaurant is clean, good waitress, not conversational. Second time here was so much better than our first experience. Our waiter was super nice and friendly. He checked on us and made us felt really welcome. I had ordered the chimichanga with beef fajitas. The chimichanga was decent but it was mostly the tortilla and barely any beef fajitas in it which was disappointment. The rice and beans were good. Service from our male waiter was a 5 star. Food was a 3 because with the price being charged higher for the plate and selecting fajita I expected not tiny amount of pieces of fajitas and majority of rice beans and tortilla along with cheese sauce. read more

This place is always hopping! Good food, good salsa, and friendly faces. They have karaoke in the bar (at the back of the restaurant. Sometimes it can be too loud, though. Overall, it's a good, family restaurant. read more

I would like to take this time and only give a review detailing how the food was very very subpar. I ordered the combo with 2 meat and I must say this was a mistake. The barbacoa and fajita meat was decent at best. The rice and beans were only lukewarm and just wasn't appetizing at all. When asked about the food I informed them things were cold and they asked if I wanted to get the meal done again. I kindly declined when they said I could get the meal replaced in about 3 mins and I'm like uh no. I'm not interested in getting a refired meal in 3 minutes. The waiter did his job and I was happy with that. But overall I will never step foot back in this place. Way overpriced and not worth the time and effort. I'm truly sorry that people just don't care if their product is even remotely good anymore. Do better please cause this isn't the way things to be done. read more

In a town with limited options for vegetarians, we stop in Jalisco every once in a while for dinner. Some of my favorites.... The chips & salsa- their salsa is watery but the flavor is really good! I find myself craving this salsa. The horchata- sweet, big, & delicious! A lot of places don't carry horchata, so you have to take advantage of it when you can find it. Cheese quesadilla with grilled onions & peppers- this is our go-to. So good! My wife & I usually split this & an extra side of rice. Their rice is vegetarian, the beans are not. Sometimes we get avocado tacos as well. Just kind of "build your own" kind of thing. Staff is always friendly, & sometimes stretched thin with limited staff, but always doing their best. I wish there were more options for vegetarians here, but it is what it is. I accept that I have food limitations and don't expect everyone to cater to us. read more

Jalisco's was okay. The service was great, very friendly and responsive staff, but probably because there was no one there. This place has the ambiance of an empty warehouse. The food came out quick, and they weren't shy with portions or prices. My Al Pastor taco was great but the chicken and beef tacos were very dry. They gave me a sauce to go with it but I didn't put too much on because it drowned out the taste of the chicken. The nachos were good, VERY loaded, and more than I expected, but I did accidentally order a full plate instead of half. My boyfriend's enchiladas looked good, but he said the tomatoes tasted spoiled and smelled weird. We are both feeling a little sick now, and we don't know if it's related to the food or not. Mediocre service and food! It took three employees to give me my change. They would walk to back and come back with no change in hands and tell someone else to handle it and this happened three times with three different people. I ordered a menudo and a cubana torta ($16)! For milanesa and thick piece of ham , lettuce onion and tomato with sour cream and no beans! This torta was definitely the worst I've ever had and more expensive for sure I'd rather drive 35 minutes for Mi tradición! Way better food than this trash place. I've been here many times and the food is usually good. today tho i craved some dessert and i have never ordered any from this specific place. i went online to look at the menu and decided on what i wanted. although what i ordered wasn't what i received. when i spoke to the lady up front she said she had simply ran out of the ingredients.. i asked if she could help me out in some sort of way but she refused since she said i had already took the food out of the restaurant. which is fair in a way. maybe next time she could be more specific on what IS available rather than just assuming the customer will me alright with a half of the food being served correctly. read more

Awful Awful Awful. Ordered beef nachos and a cheese enchilada with queso. There was only 4 tables occupied the whole time we were seated. As you can see from the photos, the nachos were a soggy cold mess and the enchilada was more like an after school treat moms give their kids. Again, as you can see from the photos, the shredded cheese was not even melted. It was so cold, including the queso, that it seemed as if it all had just came out of the fridge. I will NEVER eat at Jalisco in Elgin, Tx again. Generally this was my favorite Mexican food place to eat at in Elgin until now. My 5 Skipbo card friends met there to eat lunch as usual on Wednesday, I had one nacho left to eat when I found a bandaide on my plate. Words can't describe about how I felt and how sick it made me feel. I showed the waitress and she jerked the plate from me, not letting me take a picture (but I have 5 witnesses) and told me the manager would come talk to me. Did not happen - I went to the cashier and all she would say is "sorry about that" I felt very disrespected by the management and needless to say My friends and I walked out of the restaurant without paying for the 6 meals of $100.00. My family and I like this place. They're pretty consistent, usually good. They have karaoke nights, and mariachi bands other nights. They have a pretty solid breakfast menu; we've even gone to breakfast one morning and then back to have dinner the same day. They can get crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but never too crowded. We had the American breakfast plate that was super standard and will fill you up. The pancakes were fluffy flapjack like and they give you plenty of condiments. The only thing I noticed was that the eggs had an onion taste on parts of them. I assume they cook both these foods on the same grill it was tolerable. I will mention they are a popular restaurant and are usually busy and packed so be prepared to wait. The timing wasn't extreme but I wouldn't coming hungry. Grew up in Elgin and ate here all the time as a kid. I would say it was one of my favorite spots to eat besides Azteca. After 6 or so years I went back by for breakfast tacos on the way to see grandparents and spent 40+ minutes waiting on 3 breakfast tacos. The place was empty aside from 4 tables, two of which sat down and waited after us, got their drinks, food ordered and half way done eating before they brought our tacos. They were... sad to say the least, had Velveeta cheese and were plain, cost $10.00 plus a wasted tip. This place has gone WAY downhill, doubt I'll ever go back. read more

It is tough to be another Mexican restaurant when Morelia's is also in town. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Jalisco's was there first. But life is not fair. Once Morelia's showed up - it was simply better in every way than Jalisco - leaving Jalisco out in the cold. Morelia's has a nicer room. Better salsa and . Much much better enchiladas. There is a little more equality on the queso where both places have a good product. The food at Jalisco's is certainly serviceable. My son and I had dinner there on Monday, August 31st. We had a very nice experience. I had their combo chicken and steak fajitas and they were very good! The portion was so large I had enough for lunch the next day. My son had the cheese enchiladas and he finished his plate. Covid has impacted many restaurants and very happy many are still in existence. I miss the Monday Fajitas for two special, no longer available and the breakfast tacos (2) for $1.99. Service was good, not excellent, but the food was. FYI, they have added a $0.99 processing charge for all credit card orders. That was a new surprise. read more

Convenience is what brought me here, I stayed next door at the Holiday Inn. We came in right at noon and they don't and wouldn't serve breakfast after noon. Therefore, I decided to be a bit adventurous and ordered menudo. I'm very picky about my menudo because my mom makes kick ass menudo. The menudo was served in a. Ice sized bowl. Unfortunately, it was served only luke warm. We had to ask for oregano which came when we were about half way done with our meal. I also prefer my menudo with hominy, which I asked if they served theirs with it, the waitress said yes, a little. I asked for extra hominy and she said she would relay the message but the cook refused. : ( Overall, it was a good menudo, I've definitely had worst and definitely had a lot better. As for the service, the waitress seemed really young and inexperienced, maybe she's a family friend. With so many other options of authentic Mexican cuisine in that area, I would definitely not return. read more

In the beginning, it was a delight to go and dine. The decor was vibrant, the servers were welcoming and the food was good. After covid; things have been quickly going downhill. First, the decor reminds us of a (pirate) seaside tavern mixed with sad art that does not give interest of Mexican food. The servers are more just to get your order (kinda dry) and seeing other workers more interested in their phones than looking welcoming that you came in [a simple smile to the public does wonders]. I found it appalling to get my order on a very chipped plate (I did get a small cut from my plate); that should have never been brought out. The menu has changed and knowing prices did go up, yet now became more TexMex than more Mexican; sad sad. The meat items are still fair, yet the seafood has become more and more low quality. One had shrimp a bit uncooked and another had ceviche that was so plain/a bit gummy(no small heat-ketchup is a No with fish and no acidity or enough lime...could not even find myself finishing it without the after effect results later, disappointed. We went for a pre-holiday, but the tree was so saddening with the lack of "sparkle"[ so needed an accent ribbon and maybe the employee names on some ornaments, to add some "warmth". It was more displeasing to see the un-inspiring battleship gray color on the walls ( would have better suited a dark sage or rich velvet green and folk art with more familial images of Mexican culture; like Morelia restaurant). read more

Walked over from the Holiday Inn next door and popped in on a Sunday morning for some breakfast tacos. AMAZING. We had a traditional bacon, egg, and cheese taco and also tried their carne guisada breakfast taco (it's not on the menu, so you will have to ask). The carne guisada was very tender and had great flavor with lots of gravy. Tortilla chips are thin and crispy, salsa was perfection - just enough spice and not overloaded with cilantro and onions. My husband and I decided to try this restaurant since it was next door to the hotel we were staying at and we were given a good recommendation from the employee at the front desk plus we would get a 10% discount because we were staying here. Well, people, don't waste your money, the service was lackluster, even though the place was bustling with servers, the food wasn't anything to brag about plus it was expensive. This restaurant could learn some lessons in how to cook from the Rosa's Cafe chain. We're scratching this establishment off our list when we come back to Elgin. First, the chips and "salsa," the "salsa" was a can of tomato sauce with about 4-5 pepper seeds. Dreadful. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and a side Barabacoa taco. The taco meat was cold to the touch. I told the waitress it was cold and she asked me if I wanted her to microwave it. Uhh, no, just take the taco off the bill Thanks. Chicken enchiladas had sliced celery and chopped carrots. I have never in my life seen this. I had to google this. My interpretation, this is American enchiladas. The rice had chopped carrots in it as well. Wife had menudo and to say it had no seasoning would be an understatement. It was tripe in the same tomato sauce as the "salsa." Although it's not available on the menu, this place was more than happy to create custom vegan food dishes for us since we were in the area and were craving Mexican food. These were some of the best veggie fajitas I've had at a non-veg place!! Our waitress was very knowledgable about vegan food items and was very friendly and accommodating. If we're in the area again, we'll be back for sure! My boyfriend even had a vegan burrito with avocado, rice, mushrooms and other veggies. They have authentic green street sauce here. It was decent but I've had a whole lot better. The chips and salsa are nice. I like the cilantro in the salsa. It is a good restaurant salsa. I ordered the fajitas mixed with beef and chicken and charro beans. The charro beans lacked salt and seasoning. These are generally my favorite thing at a restaurant and they were just very bland here. The chicken and steak on the fajitas were alright but I could tell them were precooked and reheated. I got my food within 5 minutes of ordering. You can easily tell when chicken has been reheated. The meat also lacked seasoning. Even with all of this it was still good, it could have just easily been better. The flour tortillas were okay. The guacamole and rice were both really good. The service was great and everyone was really friendly. I'd give it another try in case it was an off day. read more

This restaurant has raised their prices yet again, unfortunately to levels of higher end Austin restaurants. The service has declined drastically. We had a 45 minute wait for a simple order. During that wait we were informed near the end that a critical ingredient that featured in two of the items ordered was "out", it essentially restarted the clock on the order. When the food arrived it was mediocre at best and did not warrant the price increase. I'll be going to another restaurant in the future. read more
