Lunch special. Relleno and enchilada both picadillo beef filled. Bean and cheese chalupa

I am new to working on Elgin. I was driving in downtown and thought I would try this restaurant. I am so glad I did. I ordered the lunch special which includes tea. Everything was seasoned well. It was a lot of food. The relleno was crispy which I liked as opposed to the softer egg batter. They had a hotter salsa which was really good as well. I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to bring my family and friends here.

These nachos were $12. The food here is not that great. Recently the waitstaff has gotten much better but I think they get overworked by only having 1-2 staff when it gets "busy". We've literally sat for an hour on many occasions to have someone even come check on us. It's just a local dive that locals go to because there are not many other choices. Their margaritas are good but the quality varies depending on who's working. Prices seem to fluctuate. The same margarita might be three different prices in three different days.

We went back for lunch! I made a new discovery: everything you get here will be amazing and you can tell it's homemade!

So far, I've…read moregotten the Chicken Tortilla Soup and the Pabellón Plate (with chicken), and both were great. The chicken was not dry and the portions left me full. Plenty of menu options as well. The staff are warm, welcoming, and accommodating (we came with a group of 6 and they got us situated right away). The space is small (which I find very nice), there is indoor and covered/shaded outdoor seating available. And I love the decor! Overall, highly recommend!

My husband ordered their burrito, which came with chips and a cheese dip on the side. Their shrimp was good; nothing special. I did ask to try aleida's sauce, which many people liked on yelp, but we liked their green sauce the most! Overall, very cute and colorful restaurant; loved all the decor. The outdoor patio, where we sat, was covered and nice, until it started pouring hard outside. Not a super authentic latin restaurant. No complimentary chips and salsa. My taco wasn't worth more than $5, tbh, and we paid close to $9..given it was shrimp, but we've had much better shrimp tacos elsewhere for less. I wish I had a photo of my poor taco, but I totally forgot to take a picture :/

I do remember the warm sweet plantains. I have become addicted to them. Also had the shredded chicken empanadas and oh, so, good. I came back and waited about a minutes before I was acknowledged, I was sat and the waitress was attentive. I wanted to try the arepita appetizer which is normally served with shredded beef/pork or chicken on the side- to get a side of plantains instead of meat, it was going to add 3$ to the 14$ appetizer so I just opted to omit the meat all together and still had to pay the $14 ...which I don't feel is appropriate- people always wanna add money to sub a veggie for meat but never reduce the price when just removing the meat all together. Anyways, Ordered my food which was out promptly, the veggie bowl was delicious as always and the arepita appetizer (no meat) was good- reminded me of a fried potatoe cake, I used the arepitas as a vessel for my veggie bowl ! I brought the remainder of my bowl home where I bit into something very hard , once pulling it out of my mouth I discovered some beef snuck it's way into my dish- disappointing forsure but it is the first time out of about 10 times this has happened here. Prices have gone up over the last few years my veggie bowl was 18$.

It's genuinely crave-worthy, and there are several dishes we find ourselves thinking about long after we've left. Our only mild complaint is the service. The staff, especially the bartenders, often come across as a bit aloof and unfriendly. It's not enough to keep us from coming back because the food is that good, but a warmer, more welcoming attitude would easily take this place from great to exceptional.

If you're seated near the opening, the sun comes straight in no matter what. It gets extremely loud--so loud we couldn't hear our waiter explain the menu. Large groups (8-10 people) made it even worse. Add in the heat (on a mild Austin day, no less), and it's just uncomfortable. Service was poor. Our waiter was friendly but clearly overwhelmed with too many tables. We couldn't get his attention when we needed him. Bussers were no help--they dropped items and rushed back inside, ignoring attempts to flag them down. We accidentally ordered two "family-style" salads because no one explained it. That pretty much sums up the service: rushed, unclear, and inattentive. If you need anything--water, utensils, clarification--you have to interrupt them mid-drop-off or you won't get it. The prices don't match the experience. Food was decent, but portions and sides were disappointing. We got four tortillas for four people and couldn't get more. My steak had a great sauce but nothing to eat it with--no rice, no beans, nothing. For the price, that's ridiculous. Parking is also a hassle. Very little self-parking, and valet is pushed hard. The most frustrating part? As we left, there was plenty of staff standing around inside. Meanwhile, the patio--where service actually needed help--was understaffed and chaotic. Bottom line: overpriced, loud, hot, and poorly managed. Sit inside if you go, or skip it altogether, again the prices don't match the service !
