Stopped at this McDonald's for a quick bite on our way back to Austin. Its conveniently on 290 making it a quick detour. The place was relatively empty when we arrived and had plenty of seating. We ordered an ice cream and cheeseburger for my 5 year old, which is relished. But the sweet lady at the counter gave us another vanilla cone for free for our little one. I was passing through Elgin on a road trip and stop here for a small hamburger and French fries. The food was not bad, standard McD food but the service was Incredibly slow in the drive-thru. The first drive-thru window (where you normally pay) was closed. The second drive-thru window where you receive your food had a detour away from the window. There was two gentlemen standing outside and would take your payment & bring your food to you. One of the gentleman was wearing his mask correctly the other one had it on his chin covering his mouth with his whole nose exposed. To get a small hamburger and FF took me 20 minutes. This is my second negative review of Elgin McDonalds. Had not planned on returning, after my last visit, but did. On Sunday December 22nd went there with my wife. I ordered a double cheeseburger with no pickles due to allergies related to them. The cashier took the order perfectly. When receiving the order the rapper even said no pickle. Took my first bite and realized it in fact had pickles. Fortunately it didn't affect me this time! I would hope to have a response from McDonald's via Yelp. read more

I made an order online. A big part of my order was 2 - 40 piece chicken nuggets. I get my food home and I was missing a 40 piece chicken nugget. I go back to get my order fixed and I wait in the drive thru then have to park to wait. They bring out my 40 piece I thought. Go home tired and have lots of grandkids to feed. Get home and instead of 2 - 20 piece nuggets I have a 20 and a 10. So frustrating to get messed up twice. Just had a very bad experience at the drive thru, we waited in line, got to our turn we where told to wait, then another car got to the other line and they took their order, we asked what happened and where told to wait again. This happened 2 more times before they took our order. We asked for a manager and the guy gave us attitude, then had to wait more than 10 minutes for her to come out. Our daughter was sick and crying and at the first window we forgot to use any of our coupons and there were many like $3 off, $1 sandwich, free soft drink. All of which applied and we had ordered for. I remembered by the second window prior to getting any food and nicely asked if they could just honor the free soft drink and showed them the coupon. The manager said "no, you already paid now move for the line." I couldn't believe the rudeness of the staff. We weren't asking to use all the other coupons that we had ordered specific things for - we were just asking for the soft drink for which we had the coupon for and wouldn't have needed to change any billing making things difficult. But to be so rude, uncaring and borderline hostile in front of my kid and in response to my nothing but kind request was just unacceptable. False advertising. The new and slick digital menu shows many combo meals and prices, however the prices will not match what you will be charged. By example, a bacon, egg, and cheese McGriddle combo meal with OJ is pictured and priced at $6.59 on the menu, but they will charge you an extra dollar for OJ and claim the price show with OJ on the menu is for soft drinks. This is literally false advertising and considered illegal or consumer fraud. read more

As a person who rarely (and I do mean rarely) visits fast food restaurants for obvious reasons, I have to give this McDonald's 5 stars. When I do go to the Golden Arches, I only get the ice cream cone or something healthy. Yes, I have convinced myself that Mickey D's ice cream is healthy (only 120 calories). No cognitive dissonance here. I can live with 120 calories. Anyways, I will occasionally go to McDonald's for a vanilla cone when I'm traveling and need a relatively low calorie quick snack that I can eat while driving. Last night was one such nights. I was driving through Elgin at 3 am, and my tummy said, "Woman, FEED ME!" So I pulled into the McDonald's and ordered a vanilla cone. Now I've had vanilla cones from McDonald's all over the country, so I am self-proclaimed McDonald's ice cream cone expert. Some cones aren't symmetrical. Some are empty in the cone. Some are tiny. So I drive up the second window, and fork over my 97 cents. The cashier then hands over this gigantic, and perfectly symmetrical cone. This was a thing of beauty. The ice cream on top was about the size of a softball. I smiled. My tummy was happy. This McDonald's had shown me vanilla ice cream bliss. 5 stars to the biggest, baddest vanilla ice cream cone ever. read more

Service just keeps getting worse and worse. Not only do the workers spend their time having their own conversations while supposedly serving the public, but even the managers have no work example. Even this small community is a diverse blend if cultures, but no matter the language--bad service is bad service. It is worth to I stead go to any of the other businesses instead for food since here they would rather spend their time chitchatting in Spanish and not being grateful they are employed and should have some accountability for their work actions. No matter the other languages spoken between coworkers and when serving the public. Horrible customer service or lack of service is easily seen and cannot be faked to anyone. Before Covid I've had several issues with their serves and food not being how I've ordered it. If it takes you 3 times turning around asking for a sweet tea and they keep giving you unsweetened that's not cool. Then they would argue about me getting the wrong item. Not impressed. During Covid I order through true app as usual and make sure to wear a mask. It's taken me so long to get my food I usually don't even want it by the time it gets to me. I've been here many many times, and I can say WITHOUT EXAGGERATION that my order is wrong in some way at least 90% of the times... no one there gives a shit, no one speaks English and they get the orders wrong all the dam time!! As a previous manager at McDonald's for over 4 years, I know that product was sitting for hours. And it's terrible. Stopping here made my drive an extra hour long. There were more bugs than employees at this location. My wife had a cricket come out of the drink dispenser into her cup. My sons had a better time trying to catch the bugs than they did on the playground here. If you can put up with fast food and insects, this might be your place, as for us, we'll be driving to Manor for McDonald's from now on! read more

Please don't stop here if you value sanity. This place is pretty nasty inside. The counter people are non existent. Now a 10 year old girl will approach you and ask in broken English if you're OK. If you answer in an affirmative direction, you're on your own. If you say that you might need some help, she will start the computer screen for you, then you're on your own. I'm 62. I've built a few computers in my time and use them every day. Either the software is written in some kind McBasic, or they really don't need or want costumers any more. I just wanted to get a quarter pounder and fries. I couldn't do it. I tried several applications of things and actually got up to the point that it asked me about the amount of salt on the fries. I could not get past this point. What happened to someone who could convert the words emanating from my face to some keystrokes by a person who was trained in McBasic? PLEASE bring back the people that could take an order. I was frustrated and could not get a simple hamburger. McD.....You've lost my (Even in an emergency) biz forever. Say it after me. This is probably one of the best Mc Donald's in the country, and I think it's the only one to claim to have an indoor playground which looks like a happy meal. My kids love it for the playground, and I love it because it's a close place to take them for an affordable treat. read more
