I started this post many months ago but put it on pause... I wanted to give them a few more visits to find out the true essence of Joseph's Steak House. This place is actually at 19 N Main St, Elgin, TX, 78621. Double check their closing hours by calling first, because if you just show up, you may be very disappointed. Several times we have been here and the closing time is up to the kitchen employees it seems. Joseph's has a questionable closing time... see what had happened was... the first time, we arrived at about 8:43 pm on a night they closed at 9 pm. We were told the kitchen was CLOSED!! No dinner from Joseph's. This has happened several times since they moved. They need to update their hours to show the hours you can truly EAT at this RESTAURANT. I wonder if the owner knows this is happening. Customer service should be a priority, but it's not. Do better. I have eaten the food before. Shrimp scampi is pretty good. The filet was alright. I've had the steak medallion appetizer. The braised ribs are hit or miss- they can sometimes taste like they've been sitting in the fridge. They bring you some very hot bread out with cheese on top and a pat of butter. You can drink alcohol at the bar there until they close up for the night. New location! Downtown Elgin.(we like this Location better cozy, elegant comfortable.) Drinks are handmade-drink menu is very good. They make amazing old fashions and hand mix drinks bartenders are very knowledgeable beer and wine also. Crabcake was large enough to split, wedge salad was amazing. Comes with dressing on the side, hamburger ham pad homemade french fries to die for! Next time we will be trying the steak or the fish. We love this location love the food. Go check it out!! Me and my friend decided to eat at Joseph's Steak House before the Paul Wall event at Millie's on Main. We received bread with butter and it was delicious (complementary). Our drinks came out very quick. I ordered the filet mignon (medium) with a side of man n cheese. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the mac n cheese was was creamy. My friend also ordered the filet mignon (medium). It was cooked to perfection as well. The loaded baked potato was absolutely loaded. The staff was on point with our drinks and food. We are regulars (we come every couple of months) but tonight might be our last time in a while. We were greeted within 2 minutes of entering and basically were told to go sit at one of the round tables and Carlos would be with us shortly. My husband grabbed us menus. Carlos came to our table about 10-20 minutes later. We did have your delicious bread to munch on. He took our drink order, asked us if we wanted appetizers which we didn't and then he walked away. He brought us our drinks and took our orders. I ordered the burger well done with fries (my usual), husband ordered the 12 oz ribeye with mushrooms and onions and loaded potato, and our daughter ordered the chicken fried chicken and Mac and cheese (her usual). It took Carlos at least 35 minutes to bring us our food or even to check on us. My husband had to ask for more soda for me. Burger was hard and dry, chicken fried chicken was just tenders covered in gravy, macaroni and cheese was not as cheesy and flavorless. The steak was dry and lacked flavor. The restaurant was colder than normal as well. Carlos did not come to our table again until my husband was done. Your wait staff typically checks on us a few times. Drinks were fresh and delicious, dining room encompassed diners in a warm, cozy, rustic southwestern bar feel. Steaks were cooked perfectly, quality of beef was a little on the soft side, but that accounts for the wet-aging process as the flavor was incredible. We were in the mood to try someplace new and found Joseph's through Yelp. We actually made a reservation the day before but early evening it still wasn't too crowded. When we checked in with the hostess she told us food was coming out a little slow that evening - which I appreciated her letting us know. In the end the timing of the food arriving at our table was great- didn't seem slow at all! They have a short but nice specialty cocktail menu and the drinks we got were both great. Their wine list was also relatively short but with good options. We got the New York Strip which was tender and cooked to perfection paired with really tasty (and not surprisingly super rich) au gratin potatoes. We also got the chicken fried chicken which was crispy and flavorful and gave my favorite place for this dish in Bastrop a run for their money! Oh! And the butter lettuce salad was really lovely. Big chunks of blue cheese, grape tomatoes and a really flavorful dressing- super fresh lettuce, too. All in all- Joseph's was a nice surprise. It's so tempting to stick with our tried and true favorites for a date night but I'm so glad we ventured out. This will be added to the date night options going forward! read more

It was a bit later at night, they were short staffed. We walked in and they said that it would probably be about 45 minutes before the food would come out. We weren't in a rush, so that was fine. We were seated at a table and just relaxed. They were very short staffed. No worries. We got the potato skins, house salads, bacon wrapped medallions, chicken fried chicken, some of the steaks, and the cheesecake. Presentation was lackluster, but I was just happy to get the food. The steaks were cooked perfectly. There was minimal seasoning, but the quality of the meat was so good, it didn't need anything overpowering. All of the sides were delicious. We recently moved to good ol' Elgin, Tx We finally tried this restaurant and we were not disappointed with the food one bit. I had the pork porterhouse chop my husband and son had the ribeye. Everything was extremely tasty with lots of great flavor Our waitress was extremely friendly but poor girl was the only one waiting tables so we would wait awhile to be seated, refills, the bill, to go boxes...etc. not her fault-they we're just short staffed. Other than that. We had a great experience and will return for the tasty food. As for the ambiance, it's a nice place but we sat right under a section with dirty mildewed ceiling tiles. read more

It wasn't at all busy inside, perhaps 1/4-1/3 occupancy? Lots of empty tables. And yet the time it took for our meal to get out to us was remarkably long. Seemed understaffed too, just judging from the one guy doing all the busing/order-taking/etc. He was polite and apologetic about the wait times; decent enough chap, but not amazing by any means. The food was delicious. I had ribeye (medium) and mac n' cheese. (Sniped a spear or two of my husband's asparagus.) Portion size was decent. I took home half my ribeye in a to-go container. Presentation was... lacking, though that's not terribly important ultimately. Just seemed weird them bringing out these big square plates with only a piece of beef in the middle-- definitely made it seem like something was missing because the plates looked so empty! Would be nice if there were a few more menu options, but I mean, it's a steakhouse. You probably came to have steak! I liked the interior decor. Has a fun western theme, like wagon wheel candelabras and painted scenes on the walls. Much nicer inside than it looks from the outside. When we pulled into the parking lot of the corrugated metal buildings at first I was like "Are we in the right place??" It looked hella sketch, LOL. The food was good, they accommodated the splitting of a steak; even cooking it two different ways for our separate preferences. My birthday was coming around so we decided to celebrate a little early. Saw this little gem in the city of Elgin, just east of the city of Manor. We noticed previous YELP reviews were very inspiring. The interior reminds me of the nice small chain steak houses we dined in SoCal. Lots of western theme decor and wall art. The menu is quite exciting. Lots of great meals to choose from. One that specifically caught my eye was the "Chicken Fried Ribeye steak". It sounded so good, but my cholesterol isn't low enough to take that on. My wife and I split a 12oz grilled Ribeye steak, with asparagus and a side salad. The chief was nice enough to split the entire meal in half on separate plates. I was immediately impressed with that move, and no extra plate charge. (I'm really liking this place already.) The steak and asparagus was cooked to perfection. Lots of pink inside like we like it and a well cook crust of spices on the outside. Tender and juicy. The asparagus was grilled to the point where the stalks had a nice fresh crispness to it, but the buds also had a nice little crunch. Now, I'm not a huge fan of asparagus, but these little guys were quite tasty. I will be back, it is worth the 55 min drive from Georgetown/Leander area. When we arrived we were greeted by our host "Julie", she was also our server. She also fills in as bartender when needed. She is awesome in every position. She served our order "exactly how we placed it" (If you've seen my prior reviews, you know we have a lot of changes and food allergies). She was so sweet, she checked on us constantly, and just made us feel very welcome. (***** 5 Stars for her alone *****) All in all "Josephs Steak House can be your goto spot for quiet intimate dinning, celebrations or to just have a really good affordable steak and get treated real nice. Came to Joseph's Steak house for a girl's night on a week day @5pm. It was peaceful and the staff was attentive. We ordered the Bacon wrapped Sirloin madillion for appetizer. The Bacon wrapped sirloin madillion are always made consistent and seasoned well. It was delicious and highly recommend this to try! Every time I go here I always get the steaks so I figured I changed it up and order the burger with added bacon. The bacon was chopped up to tiny pieces and they charged me $1 for the bacon :/ which was not worth it. The burger patty was thick and juicy! It did lacked seasoning and the melted cheese slice was lacking too. The ration between Patty and cheese was really off. I couldn't taste the goowey goodness melted cheese on that burger... if you know what I mean.. Overall, the burger was decent and came with homemade fresh cut fries lettuce, tomatoes onion Mayo mustard kết up. The buns were toasted and buttered perfectly. For the price, it was a decent burger. The team is small, so sometimes you have to practice the patience you learned in kindergarten (some folks seem to have forgotten that...) but the food, service and ambiance is totally worth it. A hidden gem in Elgin. This small restaurant is a little off the beaten path but is certainly worth a diversion when in Elgin, Texas. It is always nice to find a small town restaurant with elevated aspirations. Ordered: Lump Crab appetizer: Quality ingredients and prepared well. Presentation was lacking. It looked bad but tasted very good. Chicken Fried Ribeye: Nicely breaded, cooked well and topped with a nice bacon gravy with bacon bits on top. Excellent. Chicken Fried Chicken: Same breading, gravy, and bacon bits. Also cooked perfectly. Excellent. Veggie Burger: Veggie patties are hit and miss. This one hits. Fries were home cut and well seasoned. AuGratin Potatoes: Good. Could've used a little more sauce. Mashed Potatoes: Creamy, buttery and seasoned well. Dont know where to start. It took almost an hour for our meal to get to us. There was only 1 server. The manager was the cook. We ordered 2 10 oz sirloin. They were no where near 10 oz. On top of that they were overcooked AND butterflied. Terrible. Forgot to take a pic to show on whole plate. Potato was good. As a former executive chef/ grill master chef I was very unhappy with this meal. As a vegetarian, I recognize the irony when I say that this is the best restaurant in Elgin. My Beau and I moved to Elgin some months back and have been extremely disappointed with food options. We're not snobs or anything, we just hoped we'd have the option of finding a decent meal that wasn't centered around fast food and beyond the plethora of Mexican food establishments. One night he was craving a steak so we went here. His takeaway that night was that the steak wasn't actually anything to write home about. However, my veggie burger was quite decent! We've since eaten there more than any other restaurant in Elgin once he realized that the burgers far surpassed that taste and satisfaction of any steak. Simply put, the burgers are where it's at. As a vegetarian in Elgin, I harbor no delusions that I may find some great meal. But here, I am perfectly satisfied with their veggie burger (comes with avocado), salad options, baked potato, mac and cheese, and bread with butter starter. With the limited bar options in Elgin (the one main bar allows smoking indoors), I can't help but feel this might also be a fun date stop to sit at the bar and drink? Me like. read more

Worth the wait!!! Yes, it takes a while, but WOW, what a great meal. Filet and ribeye were absolutely perfect, baked potato was excellent and the asparagus and green beans were incredibly flavorful. Yes, it took a long time, but look at it this way, you get to sit and visit (leave your phone in the car) in the wonderful ambiance while listening to great music with your loved one/s and spend quality time together for once. The outside of my mother's baked potato (that I ordered as my side to the sirloin) was rock hard on the outside, and the texture, which I tasted, was terrible. It was not made that day or anywhere close. She ended up eating the toppings only and trashed the old potato. My 19 + years in the restaurant industry should be enough experience to judge that. The bread was not fresh, but it had been slightly warmed. The butter was cold, unsalted, and probably fresh enough. The two steaks were probably fresh enough, but my problem with both of them was that they were not cooked to order or seasoned. At all. No salt. No pepper. Nothing. My sirloin cooked med well (ordered med rare) was juicier than my dad's ribeye. That thing even looked sickly. It was a thin cut, and the marbling was uneven throughout with excess gristle. Even my iced tea was off. I had to add 6 lemons to cover up the taste. We will not be returning, and I would recommend others stay away, too. read more
