Wonderful BBQ!! We had the plate, which includes three meats of your choice. I got the pork ribs, brisket, and cheddar-jalapeño sausage, and all three were packed with flavor and incredibly juicy. The pork ribs had an amazing smoky flavor and a great crust -- absolutely delicious! For my two sides, I chose the green beans with fresh garlic and the mac and cheese, which had the most wonderful crunchy topping. The BBQ sauces were delicious, and the sweet tea was true Texas tea -- definitely approved! I also loved the little details. Every table was stocked with paper towel rolls and their house-made BBQ vinegar hot sauce, which was such a nice touch. The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly, too. Overall, Southside Market & BBQ is a fantastic place to stop, especially if you're traveling through the area. And a huge bonus -- THEY OPEN AT 9 AM! We made a trip to eat at Southside Market to try the Beef sausage. I saw a story on TV about their famous "The Original Elgin Hot Guts". It is worth the stop. The sausage was very good and flavorful. I have tried plenty of sausages in my time and Southside is very good. If you are in the Austin area you need to stop by and see for yourself. The place has plenty of seating and even a drive thru. We ¾ pounds which is plenty for 2 people. For the sides we shared the green beans and potato salad. The sides are very good and a must try. They have a vinegar sauce on the table you can use on the meat. I liked it and gave the sausage a thang. The price is comparable to other BBQ joints. Prices for a combo plate are no longer on the menu. You have to order it and wait for them to tell you at the window because "we weigh it now to be more accurate". I got one slice of brisket that was almost pure fat and instead of the 24.50 I have paid forever, it's now 32.50. That is why the prices are no longer on the menu. Pure subterfuge and disingenuous at best for what is now substandard food. I will never go to the place again even though when I called they offered to send a gift card for next time. Next time? Not likely. Update-I called back this morning and was told "well, they work fast on the weekends" and that was it - I told him I don't want a 20 dollar giift card for 32 dollars of inedible food and that I was going to challenge the entire purchase with my bank and he said "good luck with that" and hung up. He thought the sausage slammer was better here than the other location, but I thought they were about the same. I got a side salad topped with turkey, and ice cream. Oh, Southside now you've done it. You eliminated the two and three meat plate options. You got rid of the very staple I depended on every time I came to visit. Instead, you now feature the "build your own plate" which only means a higher cost because now I have to figure out the weights and measures. My coworker recommended this place so I decided to give it a try. I absolutely have no complaints about the service. The young lady at the register as well as the young man serving were both very helpful and friendly. I ordered pork ribs, chopped brisket and a slammer. The ribs right off was a turn off as they do not remove the membrane. I do understand that is a preference but for me, that's a big negative. The slammer was just ok to me. The sausage was a bit dry and the cheese was just there, added nothing but took away nothing either. The brisket was actually decent but not enough for me to give another go. Something else that stood out to me when I walked in was how empty it was to be on a MAJOR highway during lunch. The place is huge so it was shocking until I tasted the food. I ordered a brisket sandwich, and when it was time to pay, I noticed an extra $1.00 charge. I asked the cashier what it was for, and he told me it was for the bun. Since when do you have to pay extra for the bun on a sandwich? How else is a brisket sandwich supposed to be served? Charging a customer an extra $1.00 for something that is normally part of the sandwich, without clearly disclosing it upfront, feels extremely misleading and dishonest. I would rate this 5 stars but they eliminated my favorite dishes. My usual order is half lb of baby backs and half lb of beef sausage. They no longer have baby backs which were definitely some of the best I've ever had. They also changed the beef sausage recipe so it's lets coarse. Now it's basically a hotdog consistency like every other low-mid level bbq joint. Yuck! The place is awesome otherwise but I prob won't come back if my two favorite items are gone. The only other issue would be the speed of ordering. 6-7 customers in line can result in a 15 minute wait. I've literally had to leave because I didn't have the time to wait. Stopped here on our way from Austin to Houston for a quick bite and it did not disappoint! Me and my boyfriend split the 2 meat plate and a sausage wrap. The sausage here is definitely the star of the show. I got the cheddar sausage and it was so good. We also got the brisket which was good but a little fatty and not as much flavor. I went through the drive through. They gave me what I ordered and included all the standard items, slices of bread, crackers napkins, silverware etc. one package of crackers were opened but I didn't want them anyway so I didn't care. Meat--The meat was on the dry side, but not too dry. The meat had a LOT of fat on it to be so dry. Still very good though, great flavor and great crust. Very tasty. Sauce-very good. Balanced sweet and tangy, not on the sweet side, really likes it. Sides-I got green beans, they were not from a can, field fresh, definitely not overcooked, might could use a little more cooking. Nicely seasoned but could use a little salt. I also got Mac n cheese and it was good, I've had better but it was a nice flavor and I got a piece of toasty crust which I like and it was good. Dessert- I got peach Cobbler. I didn't like the crust. It's a cake-like crust and I prefer the pie like crust. The peaches were fresh and not from a can, not overly sweet, good flavor, but again, no cake for me. They don't have Coke Zero only Diet Coke. I did go inside to use the restroom. I came to Southside Market after a retreat in Giddings, TX, on my way home in Manor. It's conveniently located right off of the highway. The space is huge with plenty of indoor seating for small or larger parties. The ordering process is cafeteria-style--ordering and the placing of your ordered food on plates on a tray then paying and going to your seat with your food in hand. It was smooth. My 3 friends and I were then able to find a table quickly. I ordered a 2-meat combo with cuts of brisket and sausage with a side of macaroni and cheese and potato salad. The brisket was juicy and tender and the sausage was super flavorful. Mac n cheese was pretty good and potato salad seemed to be mayo-based, which I prefer. Overall a good stop--in my personal opinion better than its competitor down the street which shall not be named! I decided to go all out and order dessert too! Peach cobbler a la mode. It was a delicious ending. The cobbler was nice and warm and the creaminess of the ice cream balanced out the sweetness of the cobbler. Overall a great visit. These tasty little mounds of Deliciousness were a hit at my last brunch party. So for starters, they are wrapped in bacon and we know that means good stuff is inside. Sausage meat was stuffed with a good section of jalapeños and a chunk of cheddar cheese and all wrapped in the bacon. They come pre cooked so all you have to do is defrost in the fridge overnight and place on a baki g sheet for 10 minutes per side. So easy to serve such an elegant, tasty treat. The ship in a temperature controlled package and arrive on time. It says jalapeños but we found them to give mild heat. Not HOT. read more

We could barely taste anything over the salt. Poor Milo. He slurped it up but then proceeded to completely empty his water bowl! We had to choke ours down with a couple of large glasses of tea ourselves. I hope this was just an accident and not a new rub. I enjoyed the chicken but I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese or the corn on the cob. The Mac and cheese had some hard parts and my corn on the cob was extremely mushy like it was boiled too long. I should have stopped right there when I saw the meat being cut, that's on me. I never should have paid, but thought I should give it a chance. Review is for mailorder BBQ, it was the main for our Christmas Dinner and left everyone super happy! Previously, we got some mail order BBQ from Joes KCBBQ and I was complaining to a friend about the quality and asking questions about reheating since he's an experienced competitive BBQ chef. He ended up surprising us with Brisket and Sausage from Southside as a gift! Brisket, Point Cut. Our family isn't large so a whole packer is too much, the point is only $20 more than the flat and it was still too much meat for 5 adults and 2 children. The point was primo and we made leftover tinfoil meat pouches we've been giving to friends that are all in love with the brisket. Point was perfectly cooked with a light and delicate smoky taste that was ultra tender, unwrapping it after heating the meat jiggled . Very easy to reheat, we just wrapped it and put it in the oven. A shame the bark is sacrificed but would trade that for this awesome mailorder over any local BBQ place. Beef Sausage, my friend is in love with this. We heated using indirect heat using my cousins gas grill, it was very good but too peppery for our personal preference. read more

Boo hiss!! Incompetent service overshadowed good food. We ordered a large takeout order for 10 people for an extended family gathering. Southside managed to screw the order up, ran out of ribs and made a cheaper substitution without comping the difference, and forgot ALL sides with the order, which wasn't realized until my family member got home with the order. We were in town from out of state and looking forward to a family dinner which didn't happen with everyone because of Southside's incompetence. There was no offer to deliver the portion of the order they failed to give us. There was no discount given to compensate us for their error, the inconvenience that it caused us or the cheaper substitution they made.
