Talk about a home run for barbecue. Not only was the three meat plate so much that I had to take it to go, but it was absolutely amazing. This was one of my go to places for years. Last time I went the guy at the counter talked me into the sirloin that he said he cooked himself and how amazing it was. I took his advice, it was inedible. Undercooked and super tough. My friend with me had the same experience. We both threw it away. I went back and told the guy that recommended it. All he said was 'Sorry'. I was very careful to not be ugly just simply told him that the sirloin was tough and not edible. A simple 'Can I get you something else to make up for it' would have gone a long way towards me ever returning. read more

I got a single barbecue plate with brisket the fat was so bad on the brisket I was very disappointed

Thorndale Meat Market is a hidden gem for anyone who appreciates top-quality meats and Texas barbecue, with their brisket being the star of the show. Their brisket is tender, juicy, and smoked to perfection with a rich, smoky flavor that has just the right balance of savory and sweet. Each bite practically melts in your mouth, with the bark offering that beautiful, flavorful crust that true barbecue fans crave. I admit I love snows but this was way better and they open all the time, prices are more reasonable. The only issue was the Spanish rice was sitting in the cooker for too long so it was a little crunchy but it tasted great . The potato salad was the best I ever had The market itself is warm and inviting, with a small-town feel that adds to the charm. You can tell the staff take great pride in their work, and they're always friendly and eager to help. Whether you're stopping by for a brisket to-go or enjoying it as part of a full meal, the experience is always satisfying. Thorndale Meat Market not only serves fantastic brisket but also creates a welcoming atmosphere that keeps customers coming back. It's a must-visit for brisket lovers and anyone who enjoys authentic Texas BBQ. read more

Looks like an old country store. I tried the brisket and baby back ribs. The brisket was very good but more like pot roast then brisket. The baby back ribs were undercooked and would've improved greatly with a little more time in the smoker. We tried the macaroni and cheese and the German potato salad. Both were very mediocre. They also have a meat market. I purchased a T-bone steak that looked very nice and will report on that later. read more

If you're passing through the small community of Thorndale on Highway 79 and you're on the hunt for good barbecue, this place should be on your go to list. It has all the charm of an old timey country store. They do have fresh meats in their case for you to purchase along with some produce. However, their barbecue is worth stopping in for and their prices are not sky high like you find closer to Austin. I ordered the $16 two meat and two sides plate, and the portions were quite generous. They do offer both a vinegar and mayo coleslaw choice. There's plenty of seating inside, but there's about a dozen or so parking spaces. Tipping is obviously encouraged with two notable tip jars and of course that obligatory tip screen will be waiting for you should you use your credit card. Best place for great and affordable barbecue you'll find along this stretch of highway. read more

Thorndale just catered our appreciation dinner and let me tell you - I have never, in my very long life, had better tasting or more tender beef! Our entire table was just flabbergasted at the fact that we could cut through this meat with a plastic fork and have it melt on our tongues! And the taste! Nothing could beat the taste. We had many Texas BBQ aficionados that admitted they'd never had anything better. There were murmurings throughout the 100+ people about how perfect and wonderful the meal they provided was. I cannot recommend them highly enough! GO GET THEIR FOOD- especially the beef. read more

What a hidden gem and amazing place! My husband stumbled upon this place while in the area for work and it's incredible. It gets busy, so beware when you're in a rush. The portions are HUGE, the food is delicious, and the prices are completely reasonable. You order at the counter then find a spot to sit and eat. You pay on your way out. It's super small town Texas, so be prepared to be patient and friendly. There isn't any kind of alcohol, like beer or wine, so plan accordingly. This place is also an amazing meat market. For months, my husband has come here for all our fresh meat. It's excellent quality and highly recommended. If you order enough, you even get a cooler bag with the store name on it. Finally, this place is only about 90 minutes from austin and makes for a fun day trip. read more

This is more for the service than the food. We stopped in a couple weeks ago to try a few things. I wanted to place an order for Easter Sunday. The food was good but definitely not like Blacks BBQ. Anyway a woman spoke to me about everything, wrote down all my information and request. Stated I'd hear from here by Monday. Thursday afternoon I finally called because I had not heard anything. I was told she would be calling me by the end of that day. It's the following Saturday now and still nothing. I guess they didn't need my business! I won't go back for anything! read more

We will most definitely be back it was just that delicious and the great outstanding Customer Service we received, and Shawna was amazing and friendly! There is really no way to count how many times I have passed by this place on the way to Austin. Today, it was lunch time and I took it in! I really like that you go to the back of the store, give them your order, get your plate, then go eat! There are several tables to choose from, just get a seat and go to town! Today, I had a sliced brisket sandwich, a Jalapeño cheese sausage, Cole slaw (vinegar) and squash casserole. The portions are more than fair, you won't leave hungry. Everyone and everything was Great. Next time, I'll have my cooler with me so I can get some things to take home. I try my best to stop by when my son has baseball in Franklin and it never disappoints. It's a market so they have lots of yummy looking meats and veggies for sale, however, they also offer a hot foods. I've had several cooked items in the past... Brisket, Sausage, a Turkey sandwich, Potato Salad, Beans... and they've all been super delish! Last Monday we stopped by during lunch time and they were offering Turkey Legs so we got one of those and a moist Brisket sandwich. The Turkey Leg was awesome. It was very well seasoned and tender. It reminded us of football games or the carnival. The Brisket sandwich (sorry didn't grab a pic) was delicious also. It was quite huge and included several slices of moist brisket, onions, pickles and their BBQ sauce (which I love). Stop by when/if you're out that way... you will not be disappointed. read more

We happened upon this place and it did not disappoint! Every person working was so nice and helpful! It was rather busy due to field day at the local school but that didn't change the service at all! Great B-B-Q and Great service. They did my wedding and was it amazing and affordable

We read the story behind this place while searching for TX BBQ on our way home from the Smoky Mountains. Cool history: multi-generation family of BBQ+ gurus make'n meat to order -- had to try some. The old-time general store atmosphere and sincere TX hospitality greeted us as soon as we walked in. After Trey, the owner, came out to take a picture with me because I was a Veteran (wearing my USMC cap), he made us a gigantic BBQ brisket sandwich, a link of his favorite smoked sausage with sides of coleslaw and potato salad.. OUR LUNCH WAS FANTASTIC !!! Even the pickle. Trey graciously talked my insatiably curious wife's ear off, describing everything from the evolution of his place to a little bit of TX style local gossip. We were both immensely satisfied. After lunch, we looked over their freshly butchered meat selection and grabbed some very well marbled pieces of steak, a couple of pounds of chop meat and a heap of their highly recommended Smoked Turkey for home (I noted the prices were close to or better than HEB and the weighing system mentioned in a previous review very obviously benefitted the customer). We've since eaten everything and man, every bit of it was outstanding -- the steak melted in my mouth and had a delicious buttery, subtle aged taste; the chop meat made excellent, tender & tasty big-ole smash burgers; and thanks to our kids, the super-smoked smoked turkey was gone in a flash. So after my wife chatted a little more with the super kind lady checking us out, we full-belly climbed back into our RV and both said in unison, "we gotta come back". read more

Trey makes a brisket unlike any we've ever tasted. Slow smoked on post oak, it's sweet and crusty with an incredible ring. Texture is perfect. We order it from NJ or drive out of our way and extra hour when in Texas to pick up our order. Have to make room in our baggage every time. We prefer the beef burnt ends but owner Trey recommends the pork ones. Great pulled pork, too, but we stick with the brisket. Can't be beat. It's our #1. Call and pre-order and Trey will have ready frozen or not, when you come by. Or, eat in. The country store designed market is well stocked with tasty stuff. Oh yeah, you must take a jar or two of his bbq sauce. Not steak sauce, though that's good too, but the fruity, light-tasting sauce OMG, it is perfect with the brisket. read more

Above average beef and pork barbecue. The brisket, burnt ends and beef ribs are top notch. The sausage is disappointing though as well as every one of the sides. Very bland. I have been eating Texas barbecue for over 40 years all over this great state and their sides are at the very bottom. Great people and great service. Poor sides. read more

So went to go give this place a try, first of all the sandwich had to weigh 2 pounds, but it just disappointed me, heavy grease, so it over powered the meat taste, maybe it was just a bad day. Pickles were thick and had a good flavor, fresh bun.Next was getting a glass of tea, I ordered a glass, walked to the east wall to pour it but no cups, you have to back track to middle of the meat counter to get it, and ice in the cup already and was part Melted so I got part watered down tea.never seen that, tea wasn't bad, did 1/2&1/2. But what I noticed was the owner must really love himself I counted at least 8 pictures of himself in pictures spread around the walls, you would think if your posting pictures in your business it would be your food, history and or workers, Not the owner of himself doing different jobs and or with a thumb up! But your place do as you wish. the blonde lady that waited on me was very kind, friendly, and helpful. I got there she was behind the meat counter, then she moved to where I ordered my sandwich, then was my checkout at the door! Give that lady a raise. Goodness she was on the move compared to the other workers in there. So I'd give it another try down the road if I'm in the area. read more

Wow Wow Wow!!! Thorndale meat market catered our daughter's wedding!! Mopsie's is their catering portion of the market. This is real homemade bbq the way Texans do it right! Treys family recipe is by far the best bbq we've ever had! Our 100 guests said it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding! And to top it off, Rebecca the catering manager and her staff were exceptional!! When other vendors blew it, Rebecca was the constant.... We never had to worry about the food or service being done right. They did everything we asked of them! And she did it with a smile on her face and great sense of humor! They represent goodness and integrity in the way they handle their clients and their food. We even wear our Thorndale meat market T-shirt's all the time! We are huge fans and highly recommend this place! Thank you Rebecca and Trey! We love you. read more

Do not order the moist brisket sandwich. It was completely all gristle half of my sandwich I threw away. Their barbecue sauce had no flavor at all. Our first time here. We bought a little of everything and took it home. Brisket is good, a little greasy but good. The sausage (original) was excellent. Disappointed to say the chicken wasn't cooked all the way through nor was the turkey. The dried sausage was a little too smoky for me and chewy. The bbq sauce not a fan at all. Too much garlic. Will try to salvage what I can and make a gumbo with the undercooked meat. Many better places closer to home. read more

I'll just say it out loud, up front: THE BEST BEEF RIBS ANYWHERE! Perfectly bbq'd with a delicious, thick bark. A real Fred Flintstone kind of rib. All I could do while eating it was to make loud "ummmm" noises. They cost $15 each, which is less than they've been charging at a lot of Austin BBQ venues. I also got the moist brisket ($16/lb) which had the same sort of bark but was not as moist as I'd like, but then I didn't get to the store until 10 minutes before close so don't know what kind of pickins were left. The fresh steak, even up to aged prime, were well marbled. I got one of those to cook at home so I can "ummm" as loudly in private as I'd like. This is actually a corner store with all kinds of convenience foods in addition to bbq items like rubs, sauces, and wood chips. They have Texas honey and pickled okra alongside the Fruity Pebbles and potato chips. My only complaint was that nothing was marked with a price so you have to ask the cashier (unless money is no object, in which case I'd like to make my next trip with you :) ). A great place only about 45 minutes from Austin and heck, it takes that long to get across Austin itself for BBQ not as good as this! read more

First time stopping by here with my wife. We hadn't eaten all day so were "hangry". We each got 2 meat plate with 2 sides. The pinto beans and mac n cheese were both very tasty. Brisket was good but not as much smoke as I like. I think my favorite meat was the sausage. Great texture, spice, snap. My wife really liked the sauce. I liked its flavor but think it could be a bit thicker. Staff was friendly and helpful. Pricing was reasonable for portion size. Even got some samples of turkey (delicious, moist). Will have to try the butcher for meat one day and nice to know they have produce and other items. Definitely check them out if your are going to or through Thorndale! read more
