She was very kind, welcoming, attentive, and informative. I had a 2 item plate, of course the pork ribs and chicken leg quarters, potato salad, and rice salad. Spicy and regular sauce. Came with 3 slices of bread, pickles, white onion, some pickled jalapeños slices and a Diet Coke for approx $18. The pork ribs meat was tender and fall off the bone, but not the overly soft, the just right you want for smoked ribs. Great amount of seasoning. I tried both the spicy, and the regular (sweet) sauce and honestly, whatever rub they use for the smoke, is perfect as is. I preferred without sauce. The chicken was also very tender and juicy. Equally flavorful. Tasted like the same rub or flavor profile. No sauce was needed. The skin was soft, but not chewy. Delicious. I won't comment on the potato salad much as I am not a huge fan of potato salad in general. I did enjoy a few bites to reset my palate between the ribs and the chicken. The Rice salad, is something I've never had but if you're curious, it's like potato salad but with rice instead of potato. When I left the only thing I was wishing was that there was indoor AC dining or fans outside to keep flys away and that it had consistent hours. Most places online list it open for dinner but all of their own marketing list 11am-Sold Out. This makes it hard to plan a trip for anyone that wants to try them from out of town. My husband always gets the brisket sandwich and loves the onions and pickles with it too. The location is tucked away down a small, rough-looking road near some duplexes. First, let's talk about the location. It's tucked down a bumpy road between two duplex apartments. It sounds a little sketchy, but trust me, it is so worth it (definitely drive your truck or SUV if you have one!). This place is a true hidden gem. They have a dope setup with covered outdoor seating if you want to chill and eat there, but we ended up taking ours to go. Now, for the food. I ordered the 1 Meat Brisket Plate, which comes with a side, sauce, and pickles/pickled onions. Bro... that brisket was like butter. I know "tenderism" is trending all over social media right now, but this right here is the real deal!! It was so incredibly soft. For my side, I got the potato salad. To be honest, it was a little bland on its own, but it actually worked as a nice, solid base for me to hook it up my own way once I got home. Overall, Smoky Buns is a dope spot and easily hands-down the best BBQ in Central Texas!!!! I will absolutely be back.

The brisket was fantastic, seasoned well, and had a great flavor. I must say that the green beans were one of the best things I've ever tasted. They're cooked with bacon and potatoes in there as well, and I don't think I can ever eat normal green beans again. As I mentioned before, really generous portion size and the pricing was right on point. The owner was really nice, and my food was ready in a matter of minutes. The sides were nothing special, the beans were average and the potato salad could've come from Walmart. The corn and green beans were clearly out of a can. I got the two meat plate for $20. I decided on chicken and ribs (brisket is $2 more). The chicken was fairly moist and the ribs were decent, but the barbecue sauce they ladled over it was overly sweet with no tang. I was going to get the three meat plate until I saw the brisket sitting in the Dutch oven. At least when they ran my credit card, the tip screen was not there waiting for me. I was excited to try it because we all know, the Hill Country has some of the best BBQ in the state. The restaurant itself sits in a huge shopping complex and can easily be missed if you're not paying attention. The restaurant is counter service and not too big. It seemed like they did more pick up orders than actual people dining in. They have quite a few locations scattered around Texas so they must be doing something right. My friend did the pick up so I can't speak on the customer service. My friend ordered a smaller family pack which was a perfect amount of food for the amount of people eating. It came with 2 pounds of up to 3 meats and 3 pints of sides. It also came with all the fixins' like bread, sauce, onion and pickles. We got brisket, sausage and pork ribs along with mac & cheese, green beans and potato salad. The meal was not bad by any means, but it's not that top tier BBQ you come to expect in Texas. It's more of the backyard cookout BBQ. I've been spoiling myself and checking out the Texas Monthly Top 50 and Michelin star spots recently and this is not that. Respectable 'que though! The brisket didn't have that delicious bark or a prominent smoke ring, but there was flavor. The ribs didn't fall off the bone and these days, everybody is talking about that tenderism. This didn't have that, but again, tasty. The sausage was probably my favorite meat. It was sliced super thing which isn't my favorite kind of slice, but it packed flavor. The employee who took my order ~I believe his name was Aidan~ did an amazing job. Everywhere I go I always order some kind of dirty Mac and cheese, which in this case is the chopped brisket with Mac and Cheese, even though it isn't listed on the menu as a meal. I usually know exactly what I want before I get to the register so I don't waste anyone's time, and Aidan knew exactly how to ring it up. The entire transaction took less than a minute but didn't feel rushed. The atmosphere was very relaxed on a Thursday evening. It wasn't very busy, but after this visit, I can definitely understand why people keep coming back. The food was excellent. The mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy, and the chopped brisket was moist and flavorful. To finish off the meal, I had a slice of apple crumb pie for dessert, and it was a great ending to an already fantastic experience. My daughter looked at the blob of congealed cheese with hard noodles contained in the solid mass and apologized for not being able to eat it. It honestly looked like something that was rescued from a cafeteria dumpster over a week ago. The potato salad was the second unappetizing blob on the plate. Mind you, they were all at room temperature. Remember that we live three minutes away. I tried to be positive and pointed out that it's all about the barbecue. Dry brisket - tough ribs and sausage that looked as if it had spoiled prior to being cooked and left out for three days before making it in to the to go containers. I wouldn't even feed this sausage to a dog and can't believe they would actually serve this. We were the only customers so it isn't as if they were in a rush and too busy to notice. Since it was so expensive and we were brought up to be polite and not waste food we all tried to eat some of the meal. I'm sorry this is so long but it seems I have plenty of time as two of our three bathrooms have been occupied for what feels like an eternity - less than two hours after picking up our $65 dinner from Smokey Mo's Leander
