A cute spot with Japanese retro interior. We tried their classic donkastsu dish and hambak steak. The food came quickly. Both dishes came with 3 sides - rice, cabbage salad, and potato salad. Both dishes were seasoned perfectly and I thought the portions were good for 1 person. The dining area is quite large and we didn't have to wait for a seat since it was pretty quiet the night we went. I would go back and try the dish with the sweet potato mousse.

A newer spot in the city. Lucky dontaksu serves korean style donkatsu. It had a retro diner vibe to it. Simple menu, pick your donkatsu, the sauce (curry was excellent), and if you want the combos. The udon was perfect and had a nice clean soup. The donkatsu was fried to crispy perfection and wasn't dried out. It comes with rice, cabbage salad, and pasta salad which all complimented it quite well. The two person combo made us quite full. We also got complimentary cream soup, which was a bit watered down in my opinion. Overall, good food and a great vibe!

Got the chicken katsu and it was pretty good. The outside was crispy and inside was tender, though there was nothing really special about the classic sauce. The add on mozza topping was ooey gooey cheesy which I love, though was a bit pricey. Vibe is causal lively. Space is on the small side but well laid out. Service is efficient. Prices are reasonable. Overall, a pretty good spot for katsu.

This is a casual Korean restaurant serving only 3 mains, 3 sides, 3 add-ons per main, 3 alcoholic drinks, 3 pops, and 1 Milkis. 3 must be a lucky number for the owner. They were operating Hwetown previously, but the owner decided to offer a completely different menu (still Korean) that is simplified. This new restaurant opened on 2024-07-05. We ordered the following: 1. Classic Donkatsu ($18.95) + Sweet Potato Mousse (+$4.00). 2. Hambak Steak ($22.95). 3. Truffle Fries ($9.95). The dishes were massive; you can certainly get very full, especially when they were very delicious! Each dish came with Cole Slaw, pasta salad, rice, and turnips. The Classic Donkatsu (pork cutlet) was cooked perfectly with a crispy batter. There was a very rich sauce; I wonder how many calories was in the sauce alone! We added Sweet Potato Mousse on top, which complimented the taste perfectly! The Hambak is a beef and pork blend patty. It is surrounded by cheddar cheese. There are only 10 available per day. The patty is extremely thick and delicious. As a fun add-on, you can order the Cheddar Bomb (+$4.00) where you can have Cheddar flowing over the entire patty. The Truffle Fries were amazing! We don't know if they normally pour the truffle sauce onto the fries or not, but we asked for it on the side because my son doesn't like truffle sauce. The fries had a parsley mix, which added flavour to the crunchy fries. I loved dipping the fries into the truffle sauce. There is a loyalty card. On the 7th entree, you get it 75% off. After 9 entrees, you get a free Classic Donkatsu. There is music playing the background. There is free WiFi, but the server didn't know the password. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are two gender-neutral washrooms, one of which is wheelchair accessible. You need a code to enter the washrooms. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2024-'155

    Classic and Curry Chicken Katsu

Do yourself a favour and get the curry chicken katsu from here, it is absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the restaurant ambiance is quite nice, with retro interior down to the fonts used in the wall art. The service here is also very quick and helpful!

The hubs heard about this stop on IG and he knew exactly what he wanted this date night. A short hop and skip from grandma/aka babysitter's and we found ourself at this cute, surprisingly small spot. They only had maybe 5 two-person tables and 6 four person tables? Rough estimate... service was alright? They filled up our water bottle when it was running low but nothing else worth mentioning. They don't have a huge menu but we noticed an interesting selection upon entry. Obviously there's the donkatsu but they also had spaghetti and fries as side dishes. I got the classic while the hubs for the hambak steak. He got upsold to add the cheese bomb ($4!) which we realized later was really a social media coax. We were pleasantly surprised at how flavourful and delicious the sauces were on both our plates - different, for sure. The hambak's sauce was more worchestshire heavy and mine was more soy sauce? Both good. The sides were well made but just a bit sad in size. The rice looked like half a bowl and the pasta salad was barely an ice cream scoop. The size of the steak and donkatsu were good though so it was a bit sad they skimped on the sides. Delicious but not sure if we'd choose this spot over our brown donkatsu...

This place was really vibey with the retro and diner vibes so it was really cozy. We ordered the classic donkatsu with cream soup and the truffle fries. The donkatsu was huge and definitely was enough to share with two. The truffle fries flavour was so good, definitely must get Service attentive, would recommend!

    Hambarg steak with cheese bomb

We were drawn in by instagram and the threat of a limited amount of Hambak steak available a day (only 10 a day!). Since we came as a group, we ordered the Hambak steak with the cheese bomb, classic donkatsu with the classic sauce, chicken katsu with the curry sauce and a side of spaghetti. The spaghetti hit our table first, the super garlicky tomato sauce was a punch of flavor, especially with the generous layer of cheese on top. Unfortunately, the pasta was slightly undercooked. It was harder than al dente, but just on the side of edible. Not sure if this is how they meant it to be? The rest of the meal was much better. The hambak steak was thick and delicious, especially flooded with cheddar cheese. I would eat this first, as the cheese tends to cool off and congeal quickly. The katsu dishes are worth the trip alone. The pork is a generous portion, while the chicken version is slightly smaller but thicker. For the sauce, we preferred the curry sauce over the classic as we enjoyed the kick of spice. The classic sauce was a bit too sweet for our liking. The service is quick and efficient. I like the decor, as it is decorated like an old cafe with some retro touches.

We came right when it opened for the limited Hambak Steak with the Cheddar Bomb but also got the Classic Donkatsu and Truffle Fries. Honestly, everything other than the Truffle Fries was pretty mid, and also kinda pricy. The katsu was chewy and hard, and the sauces were good but nothing special. The Cheddar Bomb was unique but I wouldn't get it again. That being said, this place has the best Truffle Fries I ever had in my life, and if I'm ever in the area, I'd get it again. Portions were huge too.

Original Katsu with Sweet Potato Mousse (+$3 for the Mousse)
    Alex C.

This Katsu spot offers a small but focused menu. I tried both the original and curry katsu. The curry was mild, which I personally enjoyed, while the original sauce had a slightly sweet profile that worked well--though adding the sweet potato mousse made it a bit too sweet for my taste. Between the chicken and pork, I preferred the chicken; it was juicier and more tender. Each katsu dish is served with rice, cabbage, and macaroni. I also tried the cream soup and bread add-on, which is pretty good if you're feeling extra hungry. The ambiance gives a retro diner vibe and a touch of '90s aesthetics. It's clean, the music sets a great mood, and the small details, like fortune cookies at the front, add a nice charm. Service was friendly and efficient. One thing worth mentioning: the portions are huge! Photos don't quite capture just how generous they are.

October 17, 2024 - I ordered the Chicken Katsu, it wasn't what I expected, it was dark meat and while it was cooked perfectly, I did t like the cut of meat or texture as much. Next time I'll order Donkatsu. Service is great as always, staff is attentive and food was ready in a timely manner.

I tried Lucky Donkatsu a while back in the summer and had an enjoyable experience. I had the classic sauce while my sister tried the spicy one. What's unique about this katsu shop is they give you the option to add sweet potato mousse on top of your katsu and I personally think it really makes it better. We were left full and satisfied. I also love the diner feel of this spot. Service was good no complaints. It looks like they have 2 locations by North York and Downtown. I've only been to the Downtown though but it's great to know that it's uptown too.

    hambak steak and classic donkatsu

This place gives a nice retro diner vibe. They don't have much on the menu which makes it easier to choose. The service was also really quick. We got their hambak steak and their classic donkatsu. The first time we went, we didn't realize that we ordered the hambak steak with the cheese bomb (This is something that you should add on! It makes the difference). The cheese bomb mixes really well with the sauce ensuring the sauce isn't too overpowering. The classic donkatsu was cooked perfectly and was super crispy! Their cream soup was also a crowd pleaser!

Portion was so big that you would be full, and might have to doggy bag. Most importantly, food tasted good. Short ribs stew had many pieces of beef. Squids hot plate was saucy. It wasn't too spicy, so it was good for me (menu didn't have a chilli sign either). For people who like it hot, you can ask for some chilli sauce.
