Beef Tartare Bibimbap
Karchie T.

Came here Friday night with one other friend and thought the overall experience was just okay. The interior is cute! and we managed to get seated immediately, which was nice because it got really busy after. We ordered the beef tarare bibimbap and it was good, but side dishes that came with it were not the best. Portions were quite big though! Of the 4 side dishes, the egg, and kimchi, and pickled onion tasted kind of off? We only finished the macaroni and left the rest of the side dishes Service was quick but found the staff to be a bit forgetful at times. Overall, I would probably be more likely to explore other restos in the area

Comes for the vibes, stay for the food! Came here with a reservation on a weeknight and the place was full. Every single table was occupied and service was quite slow. Our food took a long time to come out. We also saw that other tables got bowls of popcorn and shrimp chips but realized our server had forgotten to give us some. The food was pretty good here and is a different menu/ vibe from the Ehwa downtown locations. Here's what we got and what I thought of it: Honeycomb Makguli 3/5 - It comes with a piece of honeycomb per order. It does sweeten the makguli but I would probably pass on this next time. It was hard to get the honeycomb piece to consume. Combination of Four FLavours Chicken in One 5/5 - Fried chicken served with four flavours of soy sauce with green oion, supreme yannyum, wasabi mayo and corn cheese. Absolutely loved the variety of this and was so good for sharing. Rosé Tteokbokki 5/5 - Korean style ricecakes in a rose sauce. We added glass noodles for an additional $3. Super creamy, spicy and chewy ricecakes. Budaejjiae (army stew) 5/5 - Loved this, was like a warm hug. Super spicy and came with spam, sausage, kimchi, vegetables. Chungyang Cream Pasta 3/5 - Can skip this. Creamy pasta sauce but the pork is dry on top and didn't really compliment each other well. Caribi Cheese Gui 3/5 - Another one of those dishes that you can probably skip. It was okay but nothing too special. Ehwa Mini Salad 3.5/5 - A good balance since everything else is so spicy. Spaghetti with clam (on a hot pot with soup) 4/5 - It's good and the soup was flavourful. It's spicy but had lots of clam pieces that made it so good for sharing! Glad to have checked this place out. The interior is nice and vibey. Whereas now I know which food items I'll order again and which ones I'll skip.

I've been to Ehwa a few times, usually for a late night snack and drinks. It's a cozy Korean spot that stays open late, with friendly staff, good service, and a nice interior design. The drinks are great, and the food is pretty good overall, though some dishes have been hit or miss during my visits. They also give you free popcorn and shrimp chips too, which is a bonus. The prices are reasonable and definitely worth visiting.

Pork Belly Creamy Spaghetti Pasta (with the spicy green chili in the middle on top of the pasta!)

Walked in to Ehwa Uptown on a random Thursday night, and the restaurant was already quite busy during dinner time! We were seated close to the entrance, and it can get a bit chilly during the winter with the cold draft coming in. The red and blue vibe inside was beautiful and mesmerizing, but you can't really see what you're eating bc it is so dark lol. Luckily, later they provided a little lamp for the table ^^ All the items we ordered had a kick to it. If you enjoy spicy food (and drinking!), this is definitely the place for you. Unfortunately, I don't eat any spicy, so I only enjoyed very little portions of the food. The most spicy item we had was the Pork Belly Creamy Spaghetti Pasta; it was no doubt super creamy and tasty (and spicy lol). The English description on the menu did NOT indicate that it had spicy green chili in it. We asked the server why this pasta dish was so spicy! The server said that the first Korean characters(s) of the menu item mentioned spicy chili but failed to mention that in the English description. Mystery solved :p My friend also ordered a bowl of yellow fruits from the menu, and it came in a bowl of ice! It was mainly canned peaches and a few more slices of pineapple, orange, and banana! You can even order fruit platters here. Apparently, fruits and drinking go hand in hand in Korean culture, first time learning this!

The space is inviting, colourful and modern. I believe Ehwa uptown is advertised as fusion Korean. We came here for lunch. We saw maybe 6 tables come and go while we were there. The server was a young Korean man who was timid but professional. He helped point out which parking spots we can park in right outside the restaurant. My friend really enjoyed her spicy seafood pasta. It came with a lot of seafood but squid came in a big piece uncut. Crab leg also came as a whole. I enjoyed my spicy vongole pasta too. It had a good amount of clams and the flavor was bang on! We also ordered grilled pork belly lunch set to share. While the pork belly itself tasted good, the side dishes and seaweed soup were lack lustre. Small things they can improve on: - The dishes all came at different times so my pasta got cold while waiting for my friend's food. - The tong and scissors he brought us were dirty. - Music came on 1.5 hours after they opened. Overall we thought the prices were good for what we received (quality and quantity). I would come back for lunch again!

Hamburg omurice

Still awaiting their liquor license but they are already getting quite popular and busy on a Saturday night when we visited. We made a reservation to get a seat just in case and got a table for four. The interior is nicely decorated but quite dim. I love their downstairs bathroom neon pink walls haha. We ended up ordering the Hamburg steak omurice, pork belly chili spaghetti, beef tartare bibimbap and an injeolmi pizza. There was obviously some miscommunication in the kitchen but we got served the Hamburg steak instead of hamburg omurice and then the server kept on wanting to take back our pork belly pasta as well. But all that aside, the food was pretty decent. I liked the pasta the best. It was spicier than expected but the truffle notes and chili went very well together. The Hamburg omurice was just okay. We found the rice to be too one note flavour of ketchup. But the egg was nice and fluffy. The bibimbap was a bit disappointing. Not many flavours although very refreshing. All I could really taste was sesame oil and the rare sliver of pear. The injeolmi pizza flavouring was amazing. However, the layers separate a lot. The cheese and topping would slice off the pizza base and then it felt like we were eating a flatbread or roti... Overall, visit was decent and I highly recommend the pork belly chili pasta! Staff were friendly but perhaps understaffed when restaurant is at full capacity. We asked for more water and they took our carafe away and we never saw it again for the whole evening haha.

Ambiance: They turn the lights off for dinner service, and it's very ~vibey and fun~ Food: The budaejjigae was okay. It wasn't one of their standout dishes like the tteokbokki. If you come, I highly recommend any of their tteokbokki dishes. Their tender tteokbokki has the best texture of any tteokbokki I've tried. Very bouncy. Their crispy tteokbokki was also very good! Crunchy on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside.

Came late at night and ordered some food and drinks. Atmosphere was also nice with music and lights. Their menu had a wide selections of different food and drinks. They also gave complimentary popcorn to start. Food was pretty good and service was also good too. They close at 3am so it's a good late night eats spot.

The food was sooo good here! We got the spam egg rice, pork belly pasta, and fried chicken platter to share - the portions were very generous! The staff were helpful and efficient. The aesthetic of the restaurant is also very on point - cute spot to go to at nighttime!

Pork belly grilled plate set

Friends and I decided to hit up Ehwa since we heard the downtown location was good and this location was very close to my friend's place. Ambiance gives a lounge type feel with slightly dark tones and neon lights. I could definitely see this being a chill date spot or just a fun night with friends. They don't have their liquor license yet but are waiting on it so the crowd wasn't as big but I'm sure it will be soon. Food was good and arrived quickly and hot. However they did mess up one of my friend's orders and quickly rectified it while also allowing us to keep the dish as service. Portion sizes are not huge but filling enough for us 3 women. I had the cream pasta with pork belly. It tasted fine however it wasn't anything cray as they just piled up some grilled pork belly on top of the pasta. Prices were okay for what you got but definitely go here more for the vibes. Once they get their liquor license, it'll be an even better time.

Came here once for drinks as it's a great vibe and hangout space for groups. On my second visit we tried Ttuekbaegi pasta which was surprisingly very flavourful. I was a bit disappointed that the Tonkatsu omurice didn't have the signature slit open or a rose design. Service wasn't bad considering he was a new waiter. He had to keep running back and forth to check on our questions about the menu but he tried his best to make sure we enjoyed our meal.

Happened to be walking past and noticed a new restaurant I. The Yonge and Shepard area. With so many Korean restaurants already filling the area, Ehwa Uptown does a great job differentiating themselves with elevated fusion dishes. I got the beef tar tar and vongole pasta. They were both delicious. The flavours were all on point and with elements of Korean, French, and Italian (though Korea already has its own version of beef tar tar). It might have been a bit on the salty side but when eaten all together the flavours coalesce into something wonderful. They were currently in the soft opening - just opened on July 12 - so it wasn't busy, but I'm certain it will begin to pick up. There were a few items on the menu which are noted as still to come at this time and their liquor licence is also still coming but once these are in place, the area's regular clientele will likely love it. Also, as there were few people the servers were very attentive and polite. The interior is somewhat futuristic with led lighting enveloping the area in a variety of colours. I think the theme was to be similar to a little bistro as when they set up your table they will bring a small led lamp (faux candle type) for your table making it feel truly feel like you could be transported somewhere else. Overall, it was a great experience. I would recommend giving it a try if you're a bit adventurous with fusion cuisine and like Korean food.

Ehwa Uptown is a newer addition to the restaurants lining down Yonge St in North York, but their atmosphere and decor make them stand out from the crowd. I recently visited with friends for dinner, and we were all taken aback by the amazing decor and atmosphere. It's really retro, and the colors are so eye-catching. We ordered from both the Afternoon and Night menu, which was nice because there is so much variety between both menus. We ordered the Pork Belly Hansang, Crispy Boneless Chicken and Spam Egg Rice, as well as Soju to share. The food was great! I was really pleased with the variety and portion size of the pork belly meal set, and the chicken was just too good. I will definitely revisit to try more of their menu. They had many great dishes to choose from

Ambiance is casual, interior is clean, and service is fast and attentive. We ordered a couple of dishes and they all came out relatively quickly. The banchan (small side dishes) are refillable once only. My favourite banchan of the day were the bean sprouts and eggplant. There were lots of vegetarian and vegan options, such as the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings, Vegetables Bibimbap, Mushrooms Bibimbap, Vegetables Udon, Vegetables Fried Rice, Kimchi Pancake, Soondubu-jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew) in different variations, and more. The menu was pretty extensive, covering the most typical Korean dishes from the stews and grilled items, to a few Korean-Chinese dishes (such as Jajangmyeon) and everything in between. Steamed Vegetables Dumplings were quite small individually, but came in a sizeable portion. I liked the green onion garnish. Taste-wise, they were alright. Vegetables Bibimbap was excellent - good amount of mixed vegetables (spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, carrot strips, lettuce, bean sprouts) and the fried egg was perfectly crispy on the outer edges, with a still gooey and runny yolk. Grilled Croaker was also decent. It had a lot of small bones as it was a whole fish. It came served with purple rice, and we chose to add on extra lettuce. Seafood Knife Cut Noodles came in a big portion - with lots of slippery, thick udon noodles, pieces of seafood (mussels, clams, squid, shrimps, octopus), and a little big of vegetables (zucchini, carrot, onion). They came in a nice seafood-infused broth - perfect for a cold winter day. I'd come again for the variety of menu items they offer (especially the wide selection of vegetarian options), satisfying tastes, and great & efficient service.

Definitely not my first time here as I've come with family or friends over the past 15+ years, every time, leaving very satisfied. Made sure to arrive for opening time to get a table right away since based on past experience, the wait can take some time, especially for dinner or on the weekends. Of course, had to order my two favourite menu items: 물냉면 - Mool naengmyun (Cold Noodles) and 김치찜 - Kimchi jjim (Braised Kimchi with Pork Belly). Have tried their other dishes in the past, which are pretty standard, but always find myself still gravitating back to these two. The slushy broth is always so tasty and refreshing! They also bring out a good variety of 반찬 - banchan (side dishes). Parking was easy to find this time since we got there early, but sometimes you have to circle around a few times or park at a neighbouring plaza and walk over. High quality, great service, pricey, but worth the dime!…read more A premium Korean bbq spot that is worth the hype and price tag. It's dry aged meats so you can expect the pricing to be higher than other Korean bbq's. The service was top notch with servers coming to check in with us throughout our meal. The food was amazing here and the quality of their meats is definitely the highlight. Here's what we got: Yukhoe (raw beef tartare) 5/5 - So fresh, so delicious and a must get appetizer. Pairs perfectly with the sweet pear slices and delicious crisps. Cold Noodle Soup 5/5 - Chewy noodles with a cold broth that is the perfect carb and contrast to the bbq meats. Refreshing and delicious. Heritage No Name 5/5 - Such bang for buck in my opinion. $25 for 240g of this premium heritage pork. When cooked, there was no porky flavour at all, it got so brown when cooked that it almost looked like beef. A must get! Marinated bone-in short rib 5/5 - This was so good and was one thick piece of short rib. My favourite meat of the night for sure. Like all Korean bbqs, this spot also serves a variety of banchans and kbbq comes with a complimentary soup that I thought was the best compd soup ever (compared to all other kbbq places). I loved this restaurant and can't wait to be back! A must try that is worth all the hype.

Parking can get busy in the garage as only the first 2 floors are dedicated to visitors while the upper floors are monthly passes. Note that Omiwol provides 4 hour parking validation if you eat there - more than enough time for meal. Staff were friendly and provided helpful tip around the amount of food and cooking the meat. We came on a weekday for lunch and decided on the lunch feast for 2. One thing that I immediately noticed was different than other Korean bbq places was that they seem to have internal ventilation within the grills at each table as there is almost no smoke in the restaurant despite many grills going on. This gives the restaurant a higher class feel and your clothes don't smell like bbq meat by the end of your meal! In terms of the meat, these were the stars of the meal. The pork belly had a nice fat that crisped up on cooking. The collar was tender and meaty that developed a good crust on grilling. The flat iron steak was soooo tender and juicy. Similarly, the picanha was meaty with good flavor though a big firmer. The banchans and lettuce were fresh. We got kimchi, spicy cucumber and onions, pickled onions, cabbage and jalapeño peppers, pickled sheets of radish and honey glazed sweet potatoes. All of which were tasty and go well with the bbq meats. On the side is a dish of sauces that include what looks like a sweet brown sauce (to me had minimal flavor relative to everything else), fresh wasabi - really great accompaniment to the beef and seemed more authentic than normal horseradish like wasabi, and a red sauce that reminds me of sauce that goes on bibimbap. The lunch set also comes with your choice of pork or beef kalguksu which is like a home made noodle dish in a stew. Very enjoyable to have to contrast the bbq meats. For us, our meal ended with melona popsicle which they have a variety of flavors. Price: 70$ pre tax and tip for lunch special which was well worth. Bring cash for a 5% discount.

A comforting brunch at Bonjuk Canada - perfect when you're not feeling 100%…read more My partner and I finally sat down for a proper brunch at Bonjuk this afternoon, and it was exactly the kind of meal we needed. I've been dealing with some dental pain, and my partner is just getting over a nasty cold, so we wanted something gentle, nourishing, and easy on the body - not a heavy, greasy brunch. Bonjuk's whole vibe of "comfort food with heart" really delivered. We'd only done takeout before, so this was our first time dining in. The space is small but really welcoming - warm lighting, clean and simple decor, and comfortable seating that makes you want to slow down and relax. It's not a huge place, so there aren't tons of indoor seats, but that also gives it a cozy, intimate feel. Service was friendly and low‑pressure, which we appreciated when we were both feeling a bit under the weather. We ordered the Chicken Porridge ($23) and the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap ($24), both for dine‑in (prices don't include tax and tip). The chicken porridge was savoury, and soothing, with a rich broth that felt healing without being heavy. It was easy to eat with my sore teeth and left me feeling comforted, not stuffed. The beef bulgogi bibimbap was a nice contrast - colourful, fresh, and full of flavour. The bulgogi was sweet, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the mix of veggies and egg made it feel like a balanced, healthy meal. It's definitely a step up from typical brunch fare if you're looking for something lighter but still satisfying. One thing that really stood out was their baby porridge menu. It's such a thoughtful touch - separate, gentle, low‑salt options for little ones. As someone who's seen new parents struggle to find safe, easy meals out, this felt genuinely helpful and kind. It's easy to see why their marketing feels like they actually care about making food that's good for people, not just trendy. If you're looking for the best value, I'd say go for takeaway. We noticed a steady stream of takeout orders, and the overall costs are slightly lower that way, especially when there are discounts offered by different order platform. Overall, Bonjuk Canada is a good spot when you want something comforting, healthy, and easy on the stomach - whether you're recovering from illness, have dental issues, or just want a more mindful brunch.
