a burger and a tomato

Restaurant consistently fails to prepare the food as their menu indicates. Missing toppings, condiments (These are supposed to be "Special"), and preparation issues plague this restaurant. Sadly these were delivery and no way to get them to correct their errors. You should know better when one of their primary profile photos is of their restroom. Attention to details is a very important attribute.

This little Japanese restaurant sits on Anderson Road next to a Goodwill. A lot of people come here for the burgers, but they actually have a lot more to offer such as sushi. I have included photos of the menu to give you a better idea. As we see so often, if you pay with a credit card, you can expect them to flip the screen over in hopes of a tip. There's enough seating inside for at the very most 50 people and 18 outside. I came in at noon on a Thursday and it was surprisingly fairly empty. My order came out in about 10 minutes, but there was some confusion as to what I had, so not everything came out at once and my burger had no cheese. I was not impressed with the sidewinder fries and definitely recommend you skip those. They were not cut from real potatoes, they were clearly preformed and previously frozen out of a bag. The onion rings were a little better as they were lightly breaded and expectedly on the greasy side. The Burger was a decent size and the semi sweet sauce they use was a nice touch, but it still lacked the wow factor. Nonetheless, I'd be willing to come back in the future to try some of the other menu items. A good acceptable 3 and a half to four star place. Plenty of photos to fulfill your curiosity.

Luck's has be on my list for awhile now, glad I got to check it off. The burgers are juicy and fresh. Everything is delicious. Wagyu Burgers: Akuma Burger - 5/5 Sides: Sidewinder Home Fries - 5/5 I order a double akuma burger, and it was phenomenal. The patties were sooo juicy and flavorful. Super fresh and amazingly delicious. Sidewinder fries were really good too. Great seasoning and cooked perfectly.

Katsu Chicken Sando Burger - honestly just tasted like a chicken sandwich

They completely messed up our order. We got the Tokyo burger and the Wagyu Katsu Burger. The Tokyo burger came with grilled onions instead of the promised tempura onion rings. I guess we don't really know what to except but whatever they gave us it looked nothing like the burger from the menu photo. Presentation was underwhelming. For my Wagyu Katsu burger, they gave me the chicken Katsu instead. I went to the cashier to correct my order and she gave me an attitude and was like "we repeated the order for you to double check" and when she checked turns out we did order the Wagyu one. She was terrible! But the other staff was nice and they just told me to keep the chicken and they'll remake the Wagyu burger for free. They explained it was the kitchen staff's first day at work.... Their Tokyo burger tasted good but nothing special. The chicken Katsu burger tasted like any other chicken sandwich... We took the Wagyu burger to go and added an egg on top with shredded carrots ourselves at home and it tasted really good. I think their burgers just need more ingredients. However I think the selling point of their Katsu Burgers is the Asian slaw - very unique flavoring! I really enjoyed their homemade fries. Although the only sauce they gave us was ketchup packets ... none of the "luck's and tonkatsu ketchup sauce" promised on the menu??? I think this is a pop-up restaurant inside of Zen, so not sure if they'll be there for long. But honestly there are so many good burger places in Austin, I won't be returning to this one. There were just too many things missing from what we were expecting based on the menu.

First time ordering from this place. I ordered a to go cheese burger with a side of Asian slaw. I requested tomato and lettuce on the burger. When I got home, the lettuce and tomato were in the side carton where the asian slaw should be. And the Asia in slaw? None. And the burger looked like it was run over This was a simple order and the couldn't get that right I always try a basic item anytime I try someplace new. If they can get the basics right, I'll go back. Not this place. On edit: it appears as if they further screwed up my order by giving something with bbq sauce on it. A simple cheese burger with lettuce and tomato w/ slaw and a side of fries, and the could get that right

TLDR: pretty standard burger fare. Came here for a quick weekend lunch. Service and such were as to be expected, nothing remarkable, but everyone was polite and the food came out quickly. For the food, the burger itself was subpar. The meat was good, but was way to small for the bun and accoutrement. Either size up the patty, or size down everything else to balance out the burger. The fries are a bit different. they are long, thick twists. I didn't really notice any difference between them and regular steak fries, but they were good regardless of the novelty. Overall, the burger was so/so, and there are better options around Austin. 3/10

Wagyu Katsu Burger

If you know me, you know that I love all things wagyu. When I heard that there was a burger speakeasy from the culinary team at Lucky Robot operating inside their sister restaurant, Zen, I knew I had to come by! Luck's Wagyu Burger Shoppe is the only wagyu burger shop in town. They also sell wagyu katsu burgers which is a Japanese dish of fried chicken made with panko bread crumbs. In fact, that's one of the burgers I got. Their Wagyu Katsu burger comes with Asian slaw, ketchup, tomato, and Luck's sauce. Pretty cool way of having a wagyu burger! Nice crunchy outside with the juicy meaty inside. Goes well with the sauce. The second burger I got is their Tokyo BBQ. This one has mild cheddar, onion rings, pickles, bbq ketchup, tomato, and mustard. Tastes just as you'd expect: a combination of sweet, tangy flavors and chewy and crunchy textures. Fun to eat this one too! Not pictured: their French fries. They were out of this world! All in all, I had a good time here. If I had to leave with one critique, I'd say I wish my burger buns were more toasted as they felt pretty dense as I kept taking bites. Other than that, I had a great experience with Luck's. The prices were very affordable given its wagyu and come with a side of fries. I also liked their wall decor full of various Japanese pieces. I give them a 4/5!

I heard about this place earlier this week, it's colocated with Zen on Anderson Lane but it's delivery only so it doesn't really matter where they are. They use Seamless delivery service and I was super impressed with them, they were here inside the delivery window and kept me updated throughout the process. I got the grilled chicken sandwich. I asked for no tomato but still got one. Not a huge deal to pull off but if you're actually allergic to something on your order you may want to be careful. The sandwich was hot, had juicy chicken and the sauce they use was tasty. I'm not a big eater and the burger was big so i cut mine in half to have the rest for lunch tomorrow. The fries are thick cut like steak fries. The order was huge and once again I'm having lunch with half of them tomorrow. They were still hot and crispy after the journey to my place. I think next time I'll try the Waygu beef burger. I'll definitely try this place again.

The menu seemed to have changed a bit from last year, but looked substantially the same. We were able to call that day to check for availability and were able to walk in and get a seat for 3 at the hibachi table and didn't have to wait too long to get our orders in and eat. We enjoyed the entertainment the chef provided! We sometimes weren't clear who our server was so it took us a bit to flag the right person down to take a drink order. We ordered chicken, shrimp, steak, and salmon dish options. I had a hot sake too. I liked the onion type soup with mushrooms they offered this year as I'm not generally a fan of traditional miso soup. The place was nicely decorated and we enjoyed the annual experience of eating Japanese hibachi on Christmas Day! I'm sure we will be back again next year!

When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess said that she didn't have the reso on her end; rather than apologizing or making a single effort to fix the issue, she just stared at us. We had to prompt her for clarification and next steps, and had to continue to prompt her through the process of getting us sat. When we finally sat down at a regular table, we waited about 15 minutes without a server coming by. I eventually flagged a server down, and we got our order under way. We requested the manager stop by to tell him about the issue with the reservation and the fact that his hostess needs additional training, and surprise, the manager was also not helpful. He did apologize for our reservation being lost, but blamed it on the system and denied any responsibility for taking care of it - basically just told us that "life is life". He did not offer a discount or any kind of relief for the setbacks or bad service. I wasn't expecting the world or anything, but good hospitality dictates that you do more that basically tell us to just deal with it. For the food: the sushi was pretty gnarly - it looked like somebody was angry at the fish when they were slicing. Most things needed salt. Steak and fried rice was good, but the vegetables were pretty much raw. I can forgive quite a bit when it comes to service, especially on graduation/mother's day weekend. But honestly I'm a little impressed at how little the entire staff cared about their guests.

I went there on a Friday morning around 10:15 and I was about the 5th in line. The line was reasonable, but I like to get there early so that all the options are available. I've gone later, when there is no line, but you are limited in choices. Let's start with the food. You can definitely not go wrong. Every item is beautifully presented and a piece of art, almost too beautiful to eat, ALMOST... I've tried a variety from their sushi combinations and they're all good. I've also tried a few of the sandos and my favorite are the Pork Katsu, lobster, and egg salad. The service is always friendly. It's a small store front and seems like mostly family run, but I could be wrong about this. Often Chef Choo himself is there to help greet people at the door. If you've never been, I highly recommend. Whenever I have an excuse, I definitely stop by to treat myself.

Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in. For roughly $60 the wife was full and we had roughly 6 dishes and one cocktail (I was still slightly hungry). Think of it as more of a tapas style ordering. Soft shelled crab - My absolute favorite and by far the best dish! Crispy from the breading, soft shell and subtle crab taste, and to top it off the fried egg adds some creaminess from the yolk. Not greasy at all due to the way it's fried. And who doesn't like a little microgreen to add some freshness to it?! It could likely use a little more salt, and this particular time the yolk was a overcooked. Sushi Tacos - 2nd favorite! You get two, and frankly I prefer not sharing these (although my wife forced me to). It's such a unique dish. Each taco is palm sized. They take a yummy piece of laver (seaweed), coat one side and deep fry it to make a nice hard shell taco casing. Then they fill it with sushi rice, top it with plentiful tuna, add a slice of avocado, and top it with micro greens. Refreshing, light (once you squeeze the tiny lime on top), slightly filling due to the rice, and absolutely delicious. Takoyaki - I'm not a fan, but the wife is. For me it's a texture thing. Even when visiting Japan I didn't enjoy this dish. Honestly though I do think it deserves far more bonito flakes, as the dish is meant to look alive from the waving flakes. Honestly we love this place so much, I always get engrossed in the food so much I forget to take pics. The overall ambience is chill and refined, albeit no white tableclothes, but it acts like it should have them.
