I've lived in DC for seven years, and unfortunately, I've become accustomed to customer service that can often feel dismissive, defensive, or simply indifferent. So my experience at Lowe's genuinely took me by surprise--in the best possible way. I worked with Enrique in Kitchen Design, and the level of service he provided was truly first-class. Despite being a very young professional, he was incredibly patient, attentive, and genuinely interested in helping me get my kitchen design right. He asked thoughtful questions, listened carefully, and whenever there was something he wasn't certain about, he had no hesitation in seeking input from his colleagues to make sure I received the right information. What impressed me even more was that the excellent service wasn't limited to Enrique. His colleagues were helpful, his managers were helpful--everyone I interacted with seemed willing to assist and genuinely cared about the customer experience. I honestly couldn't believe I was receiving this level of customer service in DC, let alone at a large home improvement store. Enrique and the entire team completely exceeded my expectations. I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the numerous problems I have experienced while attempting to purchase products from Lowe's, both online and in person at the Washington, D.C. Market Street store. For reasons that have never been adequately explained, I have been unable to successfully place orders through the Lowe's website. The only way I have been able to order products has been by telephone, which is both inconvenient and unacceptable in today's retail environment. Customers should be able to rely on Lowe's online ordering system to make purchases quickly and efficiently. The day before my visit to the store, I purchased more than $600 worth of materials for delivery. My order was accepted and processed, only to be canceled the following morning because the items were reportedly out of stock. Some of the items in my order were supposed to be shipped from the New Carrollton, Maryland, Lowe's location, yet those items were also canceled due to a lack of inventory. It is unacceptable for Lowe's to accept and process an order without accurately accounting for available inventory across its stores and distribution system. Inventory availability should be accurately reflected before an order is accepted and payment is processed. Canceling an order of this size the next day due to a lack of supplies demonstrates a significant breakdown in communication, inventory management, and customer service. As a result of Lowe's inability to fulfill my order, I was forced to travel to the Washington, D.C. Market Street store in an attempt to purchase the materials myself. My experience at the Washington, D.C. Market Street store on July 16 was equally unacceptable. I waited in the lumber aisle for more than 40 minutes attempting to receive assistance. During that time, I spoke with two Lowe's associates and explained exactly what I needed. Neither associate appeared interested in helping me or cared enough to ensure that I received the assistance I requested. Despite my repeated attempts to obtain help, no one ever returned to assist me. It is incredibly frustrating to spend nearly an hour waiting for assistance only to be ignored. The complete lack of customer service demonstrated by the sales associates was disappointing and unprofessional. Customers should not have to chase down employees or wonder whether anyone intends to help them. I left feeling that my time, my business, and my concerns were of little importance. The combination of an unreliable online ordering process, a canceled delivery order worth more than $600, inaccurate inventory information, and poor in-store customer service has left me questioning whether Lowe's values its customers and their time. Consumers should not have to navigate multiple obstacles simply to purchase products or obtain assistance when problems arise. I am requesting that Lowe's corporate office review the customer service practices and operational procedures associated with both its online ordering system and its inventory management system, as well as the customer service provided at the Washington, D.C. Market Street store. I would also appreciate a prompt response addressing my concerns and outlining what steps Lowe's intends to take to improve the customer experience. I have been extremely disappointed by the lack of consistency, professionalism, and basic customer service I have encountered throughout this process. As a customer, I expect better from a company of Lowe's stature. I sincerely hope that Lowe's will take these concerns seriously and work toward providing the level of service its customers deserve. read more

We had a project that required a stain. I do not speak "fluent paint" but the employee did. She showed me where to find Lowe's web site and training videos (who knew?). She asked practical questions (oil based vs water based) and showed me shat type of paint brush to get. She was helpful and didn't try to sell me things I didn't need. read more

I really try to use Lowes over Home Depot cause the owner is a bootlicker. But they aren't reliable. I ordered a $800 rotary drill and a week later they emailed me that it was out of stock, even tho it said it was and even gave me delivery date and tracking. Waste of time! My torchiere lamp that I had for 12 years blew up today. So, I looked on-line for a comparable replacement. Turns out Lowes had exactly what I wanted at a good price. So, I call the Washington, DC store to check on whether they have it in stock. Lowes apparently has gone to having an AI robot "help" you. But, she wasn't much help. When I told her what the item was that I wanted to buy, she asked if I was asking about product availability to which I gave a one word answer to, i.e. yes. She responds, "I didn't get that." I repeat yes two more times. And two more times she says she didn't get it. How can "yes" be the wrong answer? Anyway, I drove to the store. I had a nice gentleman assist me. We find the lamp I want. He carries it to the checkout and helps me finish the transaction. I would say that I have never had a bad experience with the people or the products at Lowes. But, can't say I am much impressed with the AI robot. read more

I was hugely disappointed by this Lowe's store. I ordered a custom barn doors for my bathroom in preparation for family reunion at my house in Washington DC. I ordered it in August and here is November and I had to cancel the order because they could not get the measurements correct after three attempts the guy who canceled my order was very nonchalant and borderline nasty about me canceling my order. I'm turned off by this location for some strange reason Home Depot is not looking so bad these days. read more

Terrible assistance. All the employees pretend to be working. All they do is walk around and when you ask them for help they always have an excuse not to help you. One lady, short black lady with glasses told me she worked in the paint department. I should go ask a cashier. I wasn't even ready to check out. So why go to a cashier and wait in line? 5 minutes later I see the same employee gossiping in another isle that wasn't the paint department. I asked another employee about an item that according to their website they had 18 in stock. They tell me if it's not on the shelf then we don't have any. They didn't even bother checking. They don't even let you talk. They respond with excuse so quickly and with an attitude. The only reason they got 3 stars is cause I can usually find what I need. No thanks to the employees. They all need to be retrained on how to assist any customer that walks in. Not just one area. read more

I started this review months ago and never finished. That review had 1 star. As usual...this location is absolutely no help. I stood by the drills waiting for assistance. Someone from customer service called across the loud speaker for me and no one came.. Now, December 24...I had a very pleasant experience. I didn't need to ask for any help. lol Well, honestly there were 2 guys in the floral department who did stop to answer my question, there was a woman who scanned and told me the prices since the plants were not priced. Lowe's is my hardware store of choice and has been for years. I recently ran into what I thought was a bargain, 5 bags of StaGreen at $2 each. I bought 5 but was unable to buy more as my trunk was full. I had another project to complete so I didn't get around to using the mulch for a couple weeks. When I did , I could see why it was so inexpensive! The bags were not filled with what one expects to see as mulch. What I received was bag after bag filled with shards of wood that look like the remnants of "bark stripping" you see when cutting a large felled tree section. Nothing in the bags resembled as one sees with Scott's mulch or other reputable brands. The grade of mulch was only good for , well, nothing! So glad my trunk was full!! Customer service did not reimburse me ; I guess "caveat emptor" is the lesson here! read more

I needed some items to complete some minimal home improvement tasks and this was nearby me at that moment. I figured I could run in here and grab what I needed and be out fairly quickly. I was not. I ended up having to search for items in here, because where items should logically be, they weren't. I only needed those few items and it took me far longer to find them. Each time I looked for an employee to help me, it turned into a deserted area. I walked about in here, ending up having to go up and down many aisles before finding the items I needed. This was particularly frustrating. The only good thing to come out of this was being able to get through the register area fairly fast. When the cashier asked me if I found everything I needed, I just kind of stared at her and grunted out yeah. I figured it would not have matter if I said no, because there is nothing they could do at that point. read more

I ordered an AO Smith hot water heater, on line, from Lowes 2438 Market Street, NW, Washington, DC. First one arrived and the driver left. When I opened the box, the unit was horribly dented. Customer service told me they would pick up the damaged unit the next day and credit my MasterCard in several days. The customer service representative told me to go online and purchase another one. I did. This time, when the SECOND unit arrived, before the driver left, I opened the box and this one was not only badly dented but was also USED, with scuffed up pipes where it had been obviously hooked up and then returned to Lowes. I refused delivery and the driver returned the SECOND unit to Lowes, Market Street. I received a Refund Receipt for the SECOND unit, MINUS the $69 same day delivery fee I had paid. Now I'm on my THIRD attempt at getting a brand new, unused, undented A.O. Smith unit from the Alexandria, VA Store. read more

I would recommend against buying a major appliance or tool from Lowes based on extremely poor customer service. A short version of my experience: * Ordered a table saw from Lowes (online) for delivery to the Washington DC store. I arrived to pick it up on 8/12/25 per their instructions and was told they only had one of the two boxes needed. The store manager promised to find out what happened to the other box and get back to me, so I left. * The Lowes online system said that the order was completed, which was inaccurate. When I asked the store manager to correct it, she said to ignore the system. * For two weeks I kept contacting the store (they did not call me) and they hinted the second box was lost in transit by the shipper. They could not tell me when the additional box would be available and finally stopped returning my messages or picking up my calls. * I called the Lowes national customer service line and days later a representative there confirmed that the box was lost in transit. * This is the important part: rather than have the manufacturer replace the box, on 8/28/25 the representative finally told me my only options were to bring the table saw back to the store (I had since unpacked it in my shop - it weighs 240 pounds) for a refund, or accept a $164 payment for my inconvenience. When I asked why they could not simply get a replacement for the second box, she just said it was not possible. No other explanation. * It has been a completely disappointing experience, since I used to like Lowes. A box was lost in transit, a minor issue where Lowes should have simply gotten a replacement from the manufacturer and finished my order. They refused to do it, and everyone in Lowes kept saying that it was up to the store to resolve the issue. They didn't. * As a footnote, the manufacturer (Grizzly) shipped me the second box (even though it was not their issue) because they realized Lowes had dropped the ball and felt sorry for me. And we're back to 1 star. After almost a year of dealing with Lowe's incredibly horrible customer service, we are left with two defective doors and no refund nor compensation. We have been trying to work with Lowe's for the last 9+ months regarding our two defective exterior doors, which they acknowledge were installed incorrectly by the installer, and they have failed to make any attempt at remedying the situation. We are now exploring legal options given their negligence and unsafe conditions Lowe's has put our home into. For any type of major project such as windows or door installation, ABSOLUTELY AVOID LOWE'S. And don't bother with floor installation services. Prior to this horrific experience, we made the dumb mistake of considering using Lowe's for floor installation. It took us almost an hour to even find a representative in the flooring department. When we finally found someone, they couldn't be bothered to answer any questions. Know that these issues run company wide and are not exclusive to this brick and mortar location. There is a general installation phone line, which is full of equally useless representatives that claim to "follow up", yet I have never received a follow up on our issue, and this is after calling 1-2x a week for a year. read more

Purchased a drill set and still have not received the order or gotten a refund from Lowes. At this point my only recourse is to dispute the payment with my credit card company. Lowe's is the only retailer that offers a particular Pella brand storm door. their process for pre-ordering estimation, and ordering took two months. They use third-party installers. In my case they used a company called all weather. The whole process was one of lack of communication, poor communication, and no attention to detail. I started this process with Lowe's in Gaithersburg, when the folks in doors and millwork were never available to communicate, I ended up working with the Northeast Washington DC store My experience with both locations was barely one star. Stay away from Lowe's! I purchased six Project Source storage containers with lids. I got 6 containers and 5 lids. I did online chat and called Customer Service to get a lid. Neither were helpful! In the end I have to take the container to the store to get a lid. I don't live close to a store, which is why I placed my original order for delivery. I will spend more in gas getting a lid, which they failed to provide. Customer Service is horrible. They claim to care about their customers -- they don't. read more

I need a new window shade for my balcony door. I came here a few weeks ago and saw something I liked. I came back to make the purchase today and saw that they were having a sale. Yay! That's about where the good news ends. I asked one of the sales associates to page someone to the window treatment section to assist me. I waited a good 10-15 minutes, but no one showed up. I tracked down another sales associate, who paged someone else. I waited another 10 minutes. Nothing. I found yet another sales associate and asked him to please find me a manager. As the sales associate was trying to figure out which manager to direct me to, some short, bald dude in a black t-shirt and jeans walks by us and the customer service agent asks the guy where a specific manager was. 'Shorty' turns to me and asks what I need. I told him I needed to speak to manager because I've been waiting 30 minutes for assistance and no ne has come to help me. Then Shorty snaps at me, saying "I'm a manager". First of all.... how am I supposed to know who or what you are when you don't have a Lowe's vest on, no name tag on, or anything else identifying yourself as a Lowe's employee? Also, who you raising your voice at, Slim? Anyway, Shorty says he gonna go off to try to find someone and disappears. Another 10 minutes go by and he doesn't return, so I set off looking for him. I find him and e tells me that there's only one window treatment specialist that can assist with custom window treatments, and that she's not here today. Soooo... why didn't somebody tell me that over 30 minutes ago instead of having me wait on someone who isn't going to show up because they're not even here? Shorty sets off again to see if there's anyone else that can help, and comes back saying that the window treatment specialist actually WAS here today, but left at 6:30 pm. I told him that I've been here since 6:00 pm, at which point he proceeds to make all kinds of excuses as to why this person did not show up. At this point, I tell him I need to speak to the store manager because this is unacceptable... and it's costing the store money. I wait another 5 minutes and he comes back saying that there's no manager available. Ok. I'm done. I just walked out of the store at that point because it was clear that nothing was going to get accomplished at this store today. TL:DR: I wasted the better part of an hour of my day, standing around waiting for people to do their jobs. I'm no closer to getting my window treatments and I have nothing but frustration to show for the hour that I wasted. Won't be shopping at this store again. read more

I picked up an order that I had placed online. There was no wait, the employee at the pickup area was friendly and attentive, and she pulled up my order without much difficulty. I had a second order that took a lot longer to find, so my polite wait turned into a bit of aggravation not knowing where the employee helping me was or how long until she would return. She finally came by with my item, had me sign for the pickup, and sent me on my way with a pleasant remark. I went inside the store to see what else they had left of Christmas decor, and there wasn't much but I grabbed a few essentials and tried to pay at the self-checkout station. Unfortunately, the item I bought did not ring up correctly so the self-checkout employee helped me out at a register. This review is specifically for the appliances department, which is where I've spent a huge chunk of this year. First of all - the scratch and dent section for appliances at this particular location is soooo good! Like so good! I've been able to get a ton of appliances, all stainless steel for a SUPER discounted price. With everything working so amazingly well. Secondly - there's a young lady in the Appliances Department named Jessica who is AWESOME! If you're thete, ask for her. She's knowledgeable, provides good feedback on the products and can help in making some good decisions on the scratch and dent and full price appliances. And she's just really kind which always makes everything better! I've been to quite a few of the Lowes in the area, and this one by far has the most extensive scratch and dent section and I LOVE a discount! read more

I go back and forth with Lowes and Home Depot and find one isnt any better than the other. I used to like Lowes because it has more trendy, current, fixtures and items. However Home Depot has stepped up to the plate. Both of them are on par brick and mortar wise but I do like Lowes over Home Depot because Lowes items seem to be in stock more. Lowes has a nice return policy and if you input your email address returns are even easier. Never had a problem with returns even those that are over 90 days. Online is where the fancy high priced stuff comes in at. Take a look online. Also do not go by whats shows is on the shelf in stores. Then sent the wrong installation team and it was on me to contact the store and straighten out the issue. Calls involved constant transfers where the next person needed the whole situation explained all over again, 10-15 minute holds and no call backs over weeks. Like a lot of others, kind of frustrated with my appliance experience. Tried to order 3 appliances online. Website would not complete the order. Called and worked with a very patient woman. 3 hours later, 3 appliances were ordered. 2 of those appliances did come as expected. However, after 2 weeks, the 3rd, a dishwasher - has been a total time-suck and frustration point. Wasted a night at my house in another state waiting on delivery and installation only to be told (after I called at the end of the delivery window - no one called me) that it would not be delivered because it was not in the store for pick up (this was after several hours of calls to Lowe's and Mega Plumbing to confirm the dishwasher was available for pickup beforehand). Now I'm wasting time calling every day to try to cancel the dang thing after we picked up and installed a dishwasher from another store. They haven't been answering the phone. Was trying to avoid spending money at Home Depot but might be headed back there next time. This shouldn't be that hard with computer systems. read more

The company will not budge on returning a faulty product - our schedule limited our use of the product because the complaint occurred after the 48 hour window for returns (72 hours in this case!) we are stuck with a gas range that makes us sick - the lines are installed correctly, the tank is installed correctly, all by professional gas fitting plumbers ( 440.00 dollars worth ) seems like the unit (by GE ) is at fault. We don't want to sell it to someone else, GE won't exchange it!!! read more
