Am a new resident in Laurel for almost two years and went to Zimmerman's several times as it was close by. The last two visits were interesting as I got overcharged each time by the young, tall female cashier. I had to alert her to the sale on leaf bags when five bags or more were purchased. She went oops and changed the price. On the last visit, I saw that the cashier was the same one and prepared myself for being overcharged and sure enough I was. Overcharged by six dollars and again, I texted on my phone (as I am deaf) about the incorrect prices on the three gutter wire cups- 4.99 each instead of 6.99. She spoke with another employee and went oops again. I am not sure but it could be that I am deaf and exclusively communicate in American Sign Language besides English in print. Did feel I was profiled because of that but who knows. I am definitely taking pics of each item I purchase to play it safe the next time and to save time as well. I love this store. He sales staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. I recently went on youtube to fix a toilet clog. They said to use something called a toilet auger. I went into store and staff showed me where the product was and how to use the tool. I came home and voila it worked no more clogged toilet. You can always find staff there to show where everything is and most will tell you how to use them. The prices are competitive too. Great place and people! read more

Been going there for 15 years, its convienent, but customer service is hit or miss at best. Its gotten better since the old white dude is no longer around who would only speak to certain customers. But there are still a few older guys there that act like you are bothering them or they are doing you a favor by answering a question. Home Depot or Lowes is a better choice and better prices. Very good experience! I purchased an amaryllis gift box in store and picked up two items I had purchased online. The thing with this store is their delivery radius is very small, so I had to pick up, which was fine but something to note. The staff were friendly, prompt, attentive, and helpful, informing me where to find the online pickup counter (opposite end of the store). The cashiers were all on their phones likely glued to the coverage on Biden being announced president-elect. Forgivable! I would definitely return. The store was very clean and things were easy to locate by category. Note that you have to get in line to exit because the exit doors are by the cash registers and you can't exit from the entrance doors. read more

I have been a customer here for 25-30 years...customer service at the store currently doesn't exist...scheduled a two man pick up of my tractor...necessary as it wouldn't start and was in an out building 100 yards from my driveway...so one man shows up...he can't push it...says he'll come back with another man or a tractor to tow mine...never heard from him again...nor anyone else at Zimmermans...scheduled Mower Man...ordered a drive belt for my Honda mower, as MM is going to fix the tractor and my Honda self propelled....got to Zimmermans...parts guy acknowledges that I'm waiting for service...and then disappears for 15 minutes...noone else can find the belt ordered in my name...I'm waiting around with my mask on inside - because customer service does not exist at this store...then have to wait 10 minutes to check out as the regular check out person is MIA...never, ever again! read more

I was looking for a rustic split rail fence (just a simple two posts and two emails) and was not pleased at what the contractor picked up at the local Home Depot nor what he found online at Lowes's. A friend told me he saw what I likely wanted at the Ace in Burtonsville so I called and spoke to Doug, who kindly checked the stock, sent me images, and even took a look at photos I sent from my current fence to see if they "matched." Doug was extremely helpful. Other staff contributed as well. I want to thank him, them, and this Ace location for the time, patience, and personal touch which is so meaningful and helpful -- especially when things can become so generic and impersonal. read more

I have lived in Fulton for five years. This is the closest hardware store to me and over the years the customer service has gotten progressively horrible. First they create this weird checkout line but the people who are checking you out are sarcastic, snarky, distant, and in general rude. They almost act like they are doing you a favor by your shopping there. They hire millennial know it all's who are cold and distant especially if you have an objection. There's no one in the store to help you get anything, if you order things like mulch you have to go to the "warehouse" and even there the people are so consuming on personal conversations they ignore you for the first two or three minutes while you're standing there. They now have security guard now so their perception is if you're a certain demographic you're there to steal. If you're not one of the "good old boys" or the "I've been living in this city for the last 50 years" don't expect to get any respect from these people. You be better off driving to Laurel going to Lowe's... And I've been to this ACE about 10 times and it is consistently trash. A business stuck in this past catering to customers from 30 years ago and annoyed by anybody who has lived or patronize the business newly in the last 10 years. Do not waste your time at this place unless you like getting disrespected. But if you're a good old boy this is the place for you. read more

Ever have a half-baked idea for a craft and not know how to pull it off? If so, this is the place to go! I wanted to use a typesetters drawer as a hanging, decorative display. I wanted to use a plexiglass panel to keep the items dust free and in place. With help from my NextDoor thread, I went to Zimmerman's for help. I got help and options. I purchased one plexiglass sheet and the gentleman cut it (all cuts were at no additional charge). The folks were fantastic and helpful. The gentleman who cut the plexiglass was one step ahead of me - he used the sheet I purchased and cut it smartly in such a fashion that I was able to cover two drawers! After that, I went back in to purchase more items that I didn't know I needed but suddenly, couldn't live without! read more

I'm not a hardware store girl so this little shop is perfect. Small enough so I don't get e Home Depot panic attack or frustration. Large enough than they always have what I'm looking for. Also they have an ice cream cooler right where you walk int! Great marketing ploy! Very helpful staff. Have never had to wander around in a daze trying to find something, surrounded by tools and parts that I've never heard of. Someone always takes me to what I want and then puts in in the car for me after I've paid. Minus one star for hideous highway-side location and difficulty of access. (Not their fault - they kind of expanded the Rte 29 and 198 junction around the store.) read more

A smile goes a long way. We weren't greeted when we came in, we didn't get assistance after looking aimlessly for what we needed and upon checkout the man who had been standing in the same spot when we walked in kept staring at us with a mean expression on his face. The store was very neat and clean but there weren't too many options and the prices were fairly high. Good store except your new (probably cheaper for you) paper leaf bags wrapped 5 in a paper sheath. The other product used to be held together w/ 2 plastic straps. Try putting leaves in one at home. The open end tears way to easily in too many places ! New product made with thinner paper ! Sometimes when cutting costs stores go too far. Now I have to go to Home Depot to try their bags. I have done business with Zimmermans for many many years.The staff is always helpful and know their stuff;not like the box sores. I took my lawnmower in for repairs. The staff was friendly and evaluated the mower in the promised time frame.They charged me $35 to tell me that my lawnmower was beyond repair. They offered me a discount on a new mower. They seemed to be more interested in selling me a new one than fixing my old one. I ended up fixing the mower myself for about $6. I should have tried to repair it myself from the start. read more

While I've buying John Deere parts from Zimmerman's for years... I just bought my first tractor from them and it was a wonderful experience. Ron Zimmerman worked with me on options and price in a way that was more than refreshing. He presented options that I hadn't considered that saved me $$ and got me on a tractor that I really love (an X590). While you often hear about the proverbial "win-win" business transaction, where both the customer and business get what they want/need, Zimmerman's really lived up to that philosophy. I will shop there again for parts for this tractor... and when it gets "tired" I'll be back for another. In the meanwhile, I'm loving this new tractor with power steering, a larger mowing deck, more engine power, and just smoother operation. I cut my grass in probably 40% less time - it's great! read more

Small selection for some things but nice full range of hardware (fasteners etc) the parts department is really great for getting small parts for your tools. A really great local hardware store! I've been going here for many years. The sales people there are almost always great and helpful. I have only run into one employee that was grumpy and not very nice - maybe he was just having a bad day. The others certainly make up for it. I've been in here a few times when I needed something quickly and didn't want to have to wander through a mammoth box store - and then roll the dice on long lines to check out. Most recently, though, I needed service on my lawnmower. It had been sitting for more than two years because last April I had the first of two knee surgeries and my neighbor took over the lawn maintenance for the entire season for me. Not only did it need a major overhaul (which I expected after sitting for so long), but I expected the repair bill to be nearly what I paid for the mower. I was wrong: the total bill was $86, the work was done within a week - and when I picked it up - it didn't even look like my lawnmower. They cleaned it!! It starts on the first try every time - and runs like a champ. AWESOME service here!! read more

If you return an item without receipt you get store credit that expires in 30 days. Plus they just give you a receipt which is easy to lose. So the odds are you lose your money. Plus, everything there costs 50% more than in a Lowe's or Home Depot and the sizes tend to be smaller. So use it for a last resort. read more

Very rude and dismissive employees. I went to and the older gentleman in the paint department was not helpful. I asked for help finding paint to come close to matching a front door. I showed him a picture of the door. He refused to help me and dismissed me by saying, " look through the color cards myself, and rudely went to help someone else. When I got home the paint entitled ' Bordeaux,' which appeared to be burgundy, as you would expect from the name and the card, the paint had a very pink, raspberry colored undertone. I returned it and the manager, (I'm assuming he was. He had an earring in one ear). He spent fifteen minutes arguing with me over a $24.00 a quart of low quality, thin paint. He was very condescending telling me, "We can't pick your paint color for you and when you mix white paint with red, the result is pink! I told him I didn't want him to pick my paint color, that I only expected the paint color to match the color on the card. Finally, the manager comes up with a paint sample from somewhere that I didn't see that was a closer fit. I told him about the employee who refused to help me. No apologies, just more rudeness and sarcasm. We are remodeling one of our three rent houses in the area and we had to delay the photo shoot for the real estate agent because of this debacle. A young man who worked there muttered something under his breath upon listening to our conversation. I told the manager that I didn't appreciate his attitude, which only made him more argumentative. I had spent over $300.00 in three days there. Maybe that's how they treat female customers. Our children went to elementary school with one the Zimmerman children years ago. We were loyal customers there for over thirty years. The service has totally gone down hill. No service with a smile here. In fact in three days in a row I went there I never saw any employee smile. We will be taking our business to the Home Depot down the street! read more

Bought a tire there for a riding lawn mower and asked to have it mounted on the rim, they told me it would be $20 and I might not get it back until Saturday (this was Monday). I could understand a charge if I had not bought the tire there but that's a little much and then have to wait 5 days to get it? I had also called Sunday during business hours and got a recording that said leave a message and someone would get back to me, well I left a detailed message with my number and guess what? no call, if your not going to call back then don't tell me to leave a detailed message. I believe in trying to help a small business but it won't be this one. read more
