Stepping in this place feels like stepping into an old-school hardware store (in a good way). You get the feeling like whatever you are looking for, they are going to have it. It seems like the workers rotate near the front door so as soon as you enter, there is someone there to direct you to what you are looking for. The aisles are a bit narrow compared to those big box stores, but they are loaded with every product imaginable. The prices are a little bit higher on some things but it's a local, small business so remember you are supporting them instead a big corporation. I am stopping being a customer at any ACE store. i ordered something for a Christmas present on December 1. I needed to return the item as he got a different item of similar product. Odenton store told me I had to call corporate. I asked if I could just return for other items I could use. They said no. i called corporate and they said it was out of the 30 return policy. I ordered it on December 1.....and January 1 my son was not yet here to have Christmas. corporate refused to do anything. I will never go back I to an ACE store...most assuredly the Odenton store. I was willing to buy sidewalk icing pellets and bird seed. my purchase would have been in excess of what these returns cost me. Odenton ACE and ACE has lost my business. I always want to support my locally owned stores. I give Ace all my business. Ace Hardware of Odenton is no exception until my last visit. I bought an item and the total for the one item was $1.01. I had a fifty, a twenty and a dollar. I asked if they had a penny, the worker said no. I asked if I had to break a twenty for one cent? He replied I guess so. Seriously!! $18.99 change. There are some really nice people who work here. Check your mail for the coupons that are inside of the Val-pak mailer. Located near Walgreens in Odenton, this place has that old school hardware vibe where the employees care enough to try to learn the customers and the pet projects that they're working on. Its a bit crowded with all of the items they have in stock. I had to ask an employee to help me find what I needed and thy knew the store like the back of their hand. Checking out can be a little slow since this is a small business with a handful of employees.Small isn't bad in this scenario as it can be a relief from the shopping experience at one of the big box hardware stores. This is one of those places that gets lost in the shuffle of big box hardware stores. It may not have as big of a selection as some of the larger stores but it does make up in personal service. I have to say that I am not knocking the knowledge of others because they know way more in some areas concerning at home fixes but the people at Ace truly know their stuff. I really do believe it is because of the smaller selection of items and they get to know what they are selling. I can say that I can go to an Ace and ask anyone a question and they can explain what I need. I have not had that experience anywhere else except at smaller hardware stores. Another aspect I enjoy is that they have very good coupons and since my repairs are just small little fixer uppers it is perfect for me. There is a rewards program so make sure you sign up and they have coupons that come in the mail in the Valpaks. A good place to shop and learn a little something. Don't just remember this place when a hurricane comes through and you procrastinated on getting supplies. Not bad, not bad. Popped in recently with the kiddos to pick up a few things for the house. I like to shop here when I can instead of forking over the dough to the Despot or Blows. There were two employees at the front who both greeted me and asked me if I needed any help. I knew what I needed to get and where the items were located, but one of the employees offered to carry my items to the front since I was holding Chickadee's hand and had Squeaker in the sling. In addition to picking up the items that I needed, I also wanted two copies of my house key made. The other employee said that he'd take care of that and have them waiting when I came up to the register. Love it! The personalized service was great. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. I am happy to keep my dollars in the community when I can. read more

I much prefer supporting local businesses over chain conglomerate stores, so this is why I try to go to Ace/Odenton to fulfill any landscaping/gardening/hardware needs. I have always experienced staff that were eager to help, however, like many of the other reviewers stated, a lot of the staff are teens. If they can't help, then simply ask for someone who can. Some of the prices aren't as good as Lowes/Home Depot, but some things are comparable prices, so why not support the local shop? The store is cramped for sure, but if you know your way around, you can get what you need and get going easily. This is not a store for browsing. read more

I used to go to the store for hardware stuff especially when going to a home depot was miles away from me. They had the basic hardware and misc stuff, it's a small store crowded with lots of items. You would think a place like this would not have as much as a large store but that is far from true. They have anything I have ever looked for except large appliances and such which is understood. Prices are very reasonable for example home filters are way too expensive at Lowes or HD, but the Ace brand is under $4. One last thing, they are always staffed with enough people to help out, however, once I was there and all the employees were chatting instead of helping me! One star off for that. read more

Very poor service. Ordered and item Saturday evening and was promised I could picked it up the next day (Sunday) as the site said it was in stock. The next day I called and was advised it was not there and would be on the truck the following Monday or Thursday. No apology was received. No empathy or concern either. In fact I was rushed off the phone. Poor customer service #1. Thursday came and no contact from the store. I called again and was told the item wasn't there or even showing it was shipped. I asked for it to be cancelled. The employee on the phone said it would be cancelled. Still no apology received (poor service #2). I kept checking the order status and my email periodically. I hadn't received any cancellation confirmation and the item was still showing as processing but I hadn't been charged anything so I just kept monitoring it. 10 days later the charge appeared (almost $300) and the item was still showing as processing. I called the store the next day again and they confirmed the item was not there still and not showing as shipped. I quietly let the associate explain what he thought happened and when he would stop I would try to tell him that the item showed in stock on the website but every time I tried he would talk over me repeating the same thing he already said until I had to sternly ask him to please allow me to finish. Again (#3), poor customer service not to mention no apology or any suggestion to make it right. Instead I was given the customer service line to call. When I call, I explain to that person how upset I was and he showed no empathy or concern. He told me he would have to contact the store to have the manager cancel it. Now why didn't the associate from the store have that done when I spoke with him? At the end, as I was still expressing how unhappy I was with the company and that I would not be shopping there again, I was still offered no gift card or coupon or sincere apology to make the inconvenience right. All the representative had to say was "ok" when I mentioned that something needed to be done to make it right or I would never shop there again. Clearly they don't care to retain customers and maybe I should have known better from my several visits to the store where I experienced rude customer service. This little store is one of the best! I support all local businesses all the time. I have never been disappointed in this Ace Store at any time. These types of businesses are far to few. To many have strayed away from what made our country great. And many don't really care. That is not until a 911 happens....they'll throw their American flag on their foreign car. After years of shopping here, I can honestly say that if its not a dire emergency (salt, quick projects that need to be done) then avoid this store altogether. The manager is absolutely unprofessional and it's very clear that he does not have good social skills. Customer service is excellent on a good day, depending on whose working. I've met some quite enjoyable people that work there, but it seems like most are high school just doing a part time job, and I have no problem with that. The items are way overpriced, and you pretty much paying the difference already instead of driving to a bigger store. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Mom and pop store, but since the owner Danny took over, well.. it seems to have gone down hill. The store is one big gossip! They blatantly talk about commercial in there face and think we do not know!! I will only come to this place if I need salt, or in need of gardening supplies in a jiffy, other than that.. Wow, after reading some other reviews, I can see how out of touch some people are. Pricing is never a reason to visit any Ace hardware, or other small independent shops. This business has been here 90 years, and the staff is very helpful, UNLIKE the big box stores. This place also has odds and ends impossible to find elsewhere, i.e., specialty fasteners, parts etc. One cannot expect the young cashier or stock man to know everything. That is what the department heads and mangers are for. Odenton hires young people from the neighborhood, and has female managers in a business that is very male dominated. Like finding a Female Barber. The owner is family oriented and has some very long term employees. Stop in, have a look. This store looks like it has not changed since the 1950s and survives just because it's located in the neighborhood. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot because they have a much greater selection and actual experts that will help you on your projects.
