Bottom Line: Helpful staff and just a nice store. The ACE Hardware in Cape St. Claire is the only hardware store where I impulse shop. I enjoy shopping their drink ware like Yeti, interesting rubs and marinades for barbecuing and smoking and seasonal holiday décor. I recently went in to get some pest control spray for my houseplants and before I knew it I was eyeing up Edison light bulbs, cozy leggings and Christmas lights. ACE hardware stores have been around forever. I remember the jingle "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man!" So yeah, brings back childhood memories like the Good Humor ice cream man. But back to ACE In the Cape. Great neighborhood store with always friendly customer service. It has an almost cozy, family feel to it, and carry what we need in a pinch like, "Monster Tape" and wall switch plates, batteries, and tools. Key shop in the back. No complaints from me. Great local hardwate store. I stopped in looking for a couple of items to sand an outdoor bench. I was walking around, looking in each aisle, when a store employee asked if I needed help. She led me right to what I needed. Prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. read more

If you need something quick this is the place to go. You can order online and pick out the item at the store or they will bring it to your car. They have a variety of items here from paint to tools to bbqs. It can be pricey but if you need it right now then cost does not matter right. read more

Made a special trip to the hardware store today and they were closed by 4. Their store hours on Sunday say till 5. Who knows how early they closed prior to that or even open at all. Not even a sign on the entry door to apologize for the inconvenience. They turned away three customers when I pulled in. read more

I was in my way home with my 8 year old daughter who needed to use the restroom. I saw the ACE on the map and thought we would stop there because I needed wood filler for project. Except this ACE doesn't have a restroom?? I don't know if the employees have to hold it or go find another one in the strip mall. Either way they could have been nicer about it or ace who has everything in store to build a place to pee should go ahead and do that. Pretty sure they just don't let others use their restroom, because every other ACE I have been to has a restroom for their customers. Thanks for wasting my time.. read more

This could easily be a 5-star review. The store is well kept and the staff are always helpful when you have questions. Unfortunately, the staff must have been trained poorly in other situations: once they greet you, they follow you around. If they don't, you'll run into another employee who will. It's honestly a bit creepy. It's not just an employee or two. It happens every visit without fail. Let people shop. Be friendly, not smothering. If someone doesn't have questions, there's no need to hover them, stay beside them from one aisle to the next, or constantly peek around the corner to see if the situation has changed. Shoppers don't need chaperones. Since it is gauranteed to happen, I have to believe they're being asked to do this. Unfortunately it's super awkward and not welcoming at all. read more

Past visits have been much more cordial. Usually the staff's attitude's of have been respectful and helpful. The last visit was a bit insulting and disappointing behavior and treatment by the staff. I was there to return an item with the receipt in the bag from the store. I was told in a barely audible and dismissive tone, we require items to be held in the bag at your home for a period of two weeks before we take a return. Crazy, right?! Did they quarantine the item on the shelf before selling it to me and after who knows how many people handled it?? The explanation seemed to be nonsense & when I questioned it as policy, the young cashier who had the dismissive and disrespectful attitude was on the security/inter staff caller system and summons a person I assume was a manager, although she did not introduce herself as one and was not very friendly either. She gave a similar story as the cashier but not matching but to the effect that they are waiting until the restrictions are lifted. When I mentioned that Governor Hogan had lifted restrictions on several things, she ignored that information. She claimed the length of time before they will take back a return depends on the owner. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that the second employee I spoke to would be a manager, unless maybe she is a relative to the owner. They have other staff there I have dealt with that would fill a managerial role much better! Very disappointed, especially since I had decided I wanted to support this local small business rather than the larger chains, irregardless of having to pay more money for the items. read more

This is a great, smaller-town hardware store. It's not Home Depot or Lowe's. Helpful staff (one reviewer says they're too helpful and it's 'creepy'). Christ man, take a chill-pill and enjoy the service. read more

A clean well run establishment but as a regular customer who purchases 7-8 things a week some of their practices drive me nuts. I like t go to a store and purchase without being asked for my "Ace rewards ID", or if I'd like to round up my purchase to benefit a charity. I like to make my own charitable contributions to the charity of my own choice. The ACE rewards card is annoying I'd prefer them to lower their prices which are on the high end. It would be wonderful if the checkout person limited their exchange to asking if everything was satisfactory with my experience and given an an enthusiastic "thank you" at the end of the exchange. I recently was given a lecture by an employee over my opinion. Sad to say what is happening in retail these days and I would not want to see us lose more retail but I don't get interrogated when I shop at Amazon. read more

Whenever we have hardware needs we try to shop here to practice our belief in supporting local businesses. True Value provides consistent service and are always offering to assist you sometimes more often then you may like. (Sometimes I just like to roam around a store.) It is always easy to find someone to help you if you need it. Their selection is strong and most times they have what I need. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because I haven't had an experience there just has blown me away. I imagine some day I may. They deserve your business and they provide great customer service. read more
