My favorite local small business for classic gifts, cards, Scout & Kanga bags. Adorable jewelry and children's section. Friendly staff!

    Parvizian Rugs

We bought two rugs from Mr. Parvizian last May. We were away for the summer, and when we came home…read morein the fall, we set them up for the first time. They looked beautiful and were perfect in our living and dining rooms. But it didn't take long for our puppy to spit up (twice!) on the beautiful new living room rug. I tried to deal with the stains myself, thinking since they were just clear "water," not actual vomit, it would be easy to blot them out. Silly me. (I later learned that puppy spit-up has acid bile in it, which eats away at wool if not promptly and properly treated.) The stains were still there the next day, so I turned to the internet and, alas, followed the instructions from several of my go-to reliable sourced sites for such issues--I mean places like Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping, not just random DIY posters. Anyway, after applying a paste of baking soda and Dawn (benign, right? wrong, wrong, wrong!), things went from bad to worse. The stains were now huge and they were BROWN. In short, my beautiful blue and white rug was pretty well ruined. In despair, I did what I should have done in the first place--I called Mr. Parvizian. I explained what had happened, and he came out to the house after work a couple of nights later to have a look at the rug. Even though this was clearly user error (he kept scratching his head at "baking soda") he and his helper simply loaded the rug up and took it away, telling me he would see what he could do. A few days later, he called to say the rug was ready, cautioning us that it was "better," but not perfect. My husband and I drove to the shop to see what, if any, improvement had been made. The rug was laid out on the shop floor, waiting for our inspection when we arrived. It looked amazing! The spots had not only disappeared, but the entire carpet had been cleaned, and the stains were undetectable! So this sad story with the happy ending has a few takeways: -Do not, under any circumstances, try to clean your own rug if you don't know what you're doing, no matter what the internet tells you!! Baking soda is not an appropriate solvent for cleaning wool rugs! Puppy spit-up is very damaging to wool! -Go to Parvizian Rugs, not only for purchasing a beautiful, well-priced rug, but for the amazing and caring service. It was truly above and beyond, because this whole sorry episode was my fault--and really, Mr. P. was not obligated to do anything for me in the situation. He took it upon himself to take responsibility and to remedy this because he wanted a happy customer. That's pretty exceptional in this day and age. Thank you, Mr. P!

This is about carpet cleaning. I should have trusted my instincts and left when I saw a rug being…read morecleaned on the sidewalk. I also smelled bleach which Mr. Parvizian denies using for fringe cleaning. The next clue was the condescending way Mr. Parvizian treated me when I brought my machine-made rug into the establishment to be cleaned. He told me my rug was not worth the price of cleaning. About a month after cleaning the fringe started to disintegrate. The response from Mr. Parvizian was that machine-made rugs have synthetic fringe and they are not responsible. The fringe is cotton, we had it replaced 12 years ago after a vacuum cleaner mishap. Then he stated that the rug was stained, which it was not, we do not have animals and our children have been out of the house for over 20 years. The last communication was that I signed the contract that in a roundabout way says they are not responsible for any damage to rugs being cleaned.

Review : Volvo Dealership, salesman, sales manager(?), finance and vehicle XC60…read more My wife and I first saw the Volvo XC60 at the DC Auto Show last year, and it really stood out to us compared to all the other brands we looked at. Recently, we decided to visit the dealership to see it in person and take a test drive. From the beginning, we told the salesman we were just looking and not ready to buy that day. After the drive, of course came the question: "How do you like it?" We reminded him again that we were only shopping and comparing prices. At first, he wasn't pushy -- but once a price was given, the pressure started. "What would it take to buy today?" I understand salespeople want to close deals, but when it comes to such a large purchase, I don't want to be pushed into a same-day decision. We left and stopped at the Lexus dealer down the road to see what they had. No sooner we arrived home, the text messages began -- first from the salesman, then from the sales manager: "What would it take for you to take the car today?" After talking it over for a few days my wife really wanted the XC60, so she texted back and we moved forward with the purchase. After agreeing to buy, we filled out the finance application and emailed all the required information ahead of time, since we live an hour away and wanted to speed things up. When we arrived, however, the salesman claimed the pictures we sent were blurry. They weren't blurry when we sent them. If you got too busy to process them, just say so -- don't make excuses. On top of that, I still don't understand why buying a car takes hours. Even after agreeing to buy, we had to sit through a long process, and when signing paperwork the finance/processing person tried to upsell us on multiple add-ons. Why can't the salesperson cover those options upfront so the customer can make a decision in one step? Better yet, bundle those extras into the initial price so buyers don't have to sit through another sales pitch. Overall, we love the vehicle itself. But the buying experience left a lot to be desired. Between the pushy follow-up messages, the finance application not being handled properly, and the long, drawn-out process, I'm not sure I'd make another purchase at this dealership again. Overall, so far we like the car it looks great and rides very well.

Second, waiting weeks to get an appointment, then non-responsive, I have to call to get the status. This and the car have spoiled my entire view of Volvo and Volvo Annapolis. I will never own another. Infinity was much better.
