We have been driving by this beautiful establishment for years and finally decided to explore inside. Great layout, large. Beautiful mums and affordable urns to complete the set. There is a large area for various pots and another for outdoor furniture. The sales lady was really helpful and offered my daughter frozen pops! Who does that nowadays? If you are looking for outdoor or patio furniture you must talk with Mike at Arnold Farms. They have 41 sets of outdoor furniture including really nice Adirondack rocking chairs. Mike is a very friendly and helpful manager who listens well to what you tell him you are looking for. In addition to furniture they have a very good variety of plants and a huge room full of pottery in all sizes from little pots to 3 foot high ceramic pots in many glazed colors and textures. They also sell and deliver soil and a variety of decorative rocks. Alex is a member of the family that owns the business and handles the plants. She stocks all the usual annuals and perennials but also finds some new varieties that are very fetching. They also have a large variety of bushes from roses to hydrangeas and tall grasses. I bet you a dollar you can't visit and leave without buying something! read more

Bottom Line: I live right around the corner from this garden center so I really want to like Arnold Farms and I really want to give them my business but they haven't earned it. I just don't understand Arnold Farms. They have a lovely, eye-catching farm inspired building that pulls you in but it's really downhill from there. My guess is that that the priority of the business is their landscaping business or an adjacent, related business. It certainly does not seem like selling to the consumer via their retail store is the main thrust. Maybe they really use this nursery as a place to pull plants from inventory when they are doing landscaping jobs? Or maybe they have a whole sale business? I value small, local businesses so I have given Arnold Farms a chance many times but they fall short every time. One thing that is confusing is their business hours. The sign will be flashing open, but the gate will be closed. Instead of trying to get there before 5pm when they close, I decided to go in the morning. Recently when I arrived a little after 9am they were watering all of their annuals with their overhead system so that section wasn't shoppable - unless I wanted to get wet. Something else that is confusing is their "free delivery" promotion. My husband and I ordered bulk mulch and wanted it delivered to our drive way which is literally about ¾ of a mile driving distance from Arnold Farms. Free delivery was going to be something like $35 to $50, even after we told them we lived right around the corner. I will say that Arnold Farms has an entire barn/greenhouse dedicated to beautiful pots in a variety of colors. They had a gorgeous stack of pots in a peacock blue color and about 9 months later when I was ready to start my container garden and needed about 8 to 10 large pots my first spot was Arnold Farms. To Arnold Farm's credit, they did come out and see if I needed any help but when I told them I was looking for a variety of peacock blue colored pots they laughed at me. Literally, laughed at me and made a snarky remark. Now about those landscaping jobs, my sister had an appointment with them for her yard in SP and they no-showed, not once, but twice. Shame on me for continuing to give Arnold Farms a try when there are other, deserving local businesses in the area. I've finally started to branch out. But, if you are wanting to try Arnold Farms, here is what you may find: - Annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees - A big selection of ceramic pots and some other pots - A nice display of and lots of patio furniture like dining sets and lounge-y areas - Bulk goods like top soil, Leafgro, mulch etc. They sell bagged items too. - Pond supplies and other hardware commonly needed in the garden - A cute boat sandbox for the kiddos to play in while parents shop - Plenty of parking My experience at Arnold Farms is probably more like a 1 and 1/2 star experience but I am rounding up in favor of this local business. I certainly don't take writing negative Yelp reviews lightly - I have almost 1,900 reviews and less than 1% of them are one or two stars! I'm always looking to find the positive in my experiences and to give credit where it is due. read more

I ordered a half cord of firewood to be delivered last Monday and what I got was less than an eighth of a cord and pure junk and other debris. The customer service was highly unprofessional and shabby at best! The manager Lynn, yelled at me continuously, instead of speaking in a professional tone. She tried to excuse this failure to deliver as promised and fraud by telling me the best she can do is offer me a $25 in-store credit; for their failure to deliver on what they promised - I don't think so. This Highly Egregious and Unacceptable practice of lying to New customers to get their money and not delivering on what they promised - will not be tolerated. Further she went on to say that the owner of the store being "over 70 years old, at times have forgetfulness and don't know what he's doing (in terms of loading the truck)" which is unprofessional and highly unacceptable. I am not a person who writes reviews very often but when I had excellent, above and beyond service from Arnold Farms I knew I needed to support them. Especially because all of the other review are old and not serious. Did someone really complain about dirt in their fire wood? Come on people, really?? Another person claimed noone helped them when they walked in, that's ridiculous. I've been here at least 10 to 12 times and someone has ALWAYS greeted me with a friendly hello and asked why I was there and what they could help me with. That lady probably walked in a back entry where the employees couldn't see her. I'm just sad to see that these old untrue reviews may deter people from trying out this family owned and operated buisness. The owner puts so much thought into busy Moms as myself, who have at least two children in tow at all times. It's hard to plant shop with young children. And that's why I love going here because there is an awesome boat sand box filled with toys for my kids to safely play in while I make some decisions and shop for my clients. They also hand out free balloons to kids and have 2 working mechanical cars to ride in that don't require coins, they are FREE! At least they were all summer, hopefully that doesn't change. I just love little details like that. There is also a wall of small toys that your child can pick for FREE with a $30 or $40 purchase, cant remember how much you have to spend. What a great idea. Where have you ever been that caters to your kids like that. Moms you are missing out by driving by this place, your kids will love it and you will love it. The plants and flowers are always being watered and taken care of, they have a great selection on large and small tress, shrubs, perennials and annuals. They also have Christmas tress and they decorate beautifully for Christmas.There are many handmade and unique ornaments and other gifts you wouldn't think a landscaping buisness would have. They even have SANTA there in December! I've brought my son for the past 3 years, he loves it. I believe they may have gotten rid of the people mentioned in these other reviews because I have never seen or heard of those people and I am sort of a regular here. Please give Arnold Farms a chance and don't listen to these old and untrue reviews. We should be supporting local businesses anyways. Visited this nursery by accident while riding to a handful of nurseries in the area. My boyfriend and I like that the indoor plants here were priced nicely and mature. In our experience, most nurseries have many damaged and failing plants due to the lack of attention. We purchased 2 plants, had great conversation and were gifted 3 baby spider plants. Lynn was very nice and hospitable! I'm a southern girl and he's a southern guy and I miss people being professional while showing genuine hospitality at the same time. We plan to return to purchase 2 more plants and to check out the trees we missed on our first trip. read more

Damage to our trailer caused by an employee at Arnold Farms. We were still charged for the stone and they fixed the trailer but we were treated horribly in the process. They acted like it was our fault that the trailer was broken even though their employee did it. We received a 10 second phone call to let us know that the trailer was ready for pickup and were hung up on. Upon arrival to pick it up, we were snubbed and when we asked for a little more of the stone, they actually tried to charge us more. We have been loyal customers to Arnold Farms for 3 years, we get our plants, stone, and mulch from there every year. Needless to say they will not receive our business again. read more

The containers, although expensive, are of excellent quality. There is a great deal of variety -- one thing lacking is more modern containers but that's not really the market here in Arnold. This place sucks and aren't honest!!! A few months ago I had them redo the landscaping in front of my townhouse. One thing I'd asked them to do was pull up all of the landscaping tarp. They said no problem. After everything was done I was talking to Paulina and asked her how that went and she said it was really tough. Fast forward to Today and I was weeding and doing some other stuff out front and wouldn't you know a ton of the landscaping tarp started to get exposed. So I spent a couple hours trying to pull it all out, which I thought I'd paid to have done. Needless to say they lied to me and never pulled it up, which explains why some plants aren't growing bc they can't establish rootstock. Not to mention the price of my landscaping suddenly doubled when I had to pay the balance after my deposit for the initial work. My family recently moved to Annapolis, MD and wanted to find a plant to spruce up the place and add a little zest to the porch. We knew exactly what we wanted, a fern. I checked yelp for business hours and surely enough, it was posted and correct, 9am to 6pm. It was 5:40pm. We parked in the lot where I looked at the business sign which also stated "open" with their hours below, 9am to 6pm. We were walking towards the door but the automatic door didn't open. As we were walking away, an employee opens to door to say, "We're closed. We close at 6." My husband looks at his watch and I look at mine. Then I looked at my phone too. It's 5:44pm. The man goes to his cart and we sat in the car dumbfounded because we got there before 6pm and they told us it was closed. As we were leaving, a woman came out with her purchase. Either I can't tell time or the employee couldn't. Working in retail in the past, when we closed at 9, the doors closed at 9, not prior. Especially not 20 minutes prior. Let me start out by saying that I am NOT a gardener by any stretch of the imagination. No, really....you've heard of a green thumb? Well, I have a black thumb...pretty much everything I touch dies. Which is why I went here to buy rocks. I figure there's not too much damage I can do to them, and they'll make a nice addition to the plants that someone else planted in my back yard with the optimistic hope that they'll somehow survive my "care". Sigh! When I arrived, I was a little overwhelmed with the huge selection they have. I have to admit I did explore the plants and flowers, and am pretty sure that I went unrecognized as a serial plant killer....at least, no alarms went off. But after looking at all the pretty things and realizing that it would be cruel to take them home with me to face what would be a certain death, I went back out to the rocks. With all that said, I'm only giving them 2 stars because during all my aimless wandering, not one person bothered to ask me if I needed any assistance, and I'm pretty sure that although I may not have stood out as a threat to the vegetation, I'm equally confident that I did NOT look like I really knew what I was doing. I eventually went to the counter to ask where to find the necessary rocks, was told (rather abruptly) to go outside where I'd find a big bin of them, and was again left to my own devices. So after going outside and selecting said rocks, I had to go BACK in to pay for my purchase. At this point, when someone is purchasing 20 LARGE landscaping rocks, I would think (call me crazy) that the natural assumption should be that I would need some assistance loading them into my car. But again, I had to ask for help. And wouldn't you know, out of all those big strong young guys working there, who comes out? Yep.....the skinny young girl working the cash register. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for gender equality, but really? Come on guys......is chivalry dead? Between the two of us, we managed to get them loaded into the car, but my arms are now scratched so badly from the wire bin that I look like I lost a fight with a wildcat. Yeah, not only am I a plant killer but a klutz too. And to make matters worse, I need more rocks. So I'll probably go back just to finish the project, but doubt I'll be a frequent customer. read more

What a big disaster. The manager Matt was rude and arrogant and hung up on me after I received firewood delivered that was covered in dirt the wood was not seasoned properly and would not burn. After contacting the owner Walt Palmer via email he could care less and told me that there was nothing wrong with the wood and if I didn't like it I could return it it Of course I was not able to return a half cord of wood. For 3 straight weeks they gave me specific days when they were expecting a delivery. Each time I went to the store, they would tell me that it would come in next week. This week, I called ahead and they said they had full pallets in stock and they were $290 per pallet. Previously, when I had been in the store, they could not quote a price for the product, but they did tell me that local delivery was free. There are also signs in the store that say any purchases over $100 are free delivery! I thought this was a done deal. When I get to the store 15 minutes later, the gentleman at the register tells me the price is 299, plus 40 bucks delivery! I asked them about the delivery issue, and the man tells me that for the his particular item, there is a delivery fee. I took my business to another place that is straightforward and honest with their customers. Stay away from Arnold Farms! read more

Our veggie garden thrives, every year, on the advice and assistance from the front desk who help figure out and determine the proper amount of soil mixtures to purchase. What's even better? The delivery man, John. He is friendly, drops the soil exactly where we ask and we always enjoy his knowledge of the area. This store is way too overlooked. read more

Absolutely disgusted with customer service Brook provided. On Sunday she was late opening the store, I sat at the gate for 15 minutes until I called and asked how was I supposed to get in. She rudely said I will be out in a minute to open the gate. When she opened the gate she almost hit my truck with it. I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but when she came outside with a stank ass attitude it set the entire mood. First impression she was under the influence of something. I was beyond pissed from the interaction with her. Later that day I came back to get more dirt to finish my project and she was no where to be found. She put the kid who waters plants and takes out trash on the cash register. This was his 8th day working his part time job. He did not know how to help me get bulk dirt. He was not trained to work the register, he was thrown on there so she could go take a nap during her work hours. After 17 calls to the main line (which she did not answer) I decided to hit option 2 & 3. My deepest apologizes to the women who answered my call. I was beyond pissed and they got my anger over the phone. It was not their fault Brook was sleeping on the job. I waited almost an hour before I got dirt. Let me just say, if there was another place to get bulk dirt on a Sunday, I would have most definitely gone there. However, the guys who put the dirt in the truck were awesome, thanks for letting me vent! After getting the dirt I went back into the store to pay for it. Unfortunately Brook and I meet again for the 2nd time that day and it was beyond inappropriate. I apologize for any customer that heard us yelling at each other. I love that Arnold Farms is so close and open on Sundays, however the customer service is beyond unacceptable. read more

2 stars because they were able to deliver firewood the next day. Minus three because it was wet. Our heat pump went out 2 months ago and our home warranty company is a giant turd, so we've been using our fireplace for heat until it's replaced. We needed more wood, got it delivered easily and quickly, but it sizzles like the cries of people burning in hell and requires a lot of attention to keep the fire going. Not as dry as I'd like, and we can't get the house as hot as we could with our old wood, but it's wood and it's here. Saw another reviewer had a similar experience and could get a refund if they returned the wood themselves. I also can't return a half cord of wood by myself, oh well. We went through a local nursery because we needed more wood quick and thought it was a good ides. If we ever manage to get through this wood and need more we'll look elsewhere. read more

I am extremely disappointed in every aspect of my experience with Arnold Farms. On 4/14/17, they delivered compost filled with trash, concrete, and stones and called it top soil, they significantly shorted my order (they delivered 3 tons maximum when I paid for 5 tons), they dumped it in the wrong place (the middle of my driveway, a few feet in front of the garage door--completely blocking the driveway and the car in the garage), and their driver was incredibly rude. I called the owner, Walt Palmer, and left a respectful, short message letting him know about this experience--he didn't bother to call me back. Here are the details. I ordered 5 tons of top soil on Tuesday 4/11 and asked for it to be delivered on Fri 4/14, dumped in the grass under a crape myrtle. On Sat 4/15 at 7:00 a.m., I went outside to meet the landscaping crew I had paid to drive to Annapolis from Pikesville and realized that the pile of "soil" was actually compost. Best case scenario, it was compost mixed with a little bit of soil--called compro. It was much lighter weight than soil...well, other than all of the trash in it. I removed half of a five-gallon bucket of trash, concrete, and stones from it. It wasn't top soil. In addition, the order was WAY less than 5 tons (probably less than 3 tons), and there was no ticket with it. I'm a project manager at the largest commercial landscape management company in the U.S., and I've been in the industry for 15 years--you can't deliver an order without a ticket. It makes no sense--how else do you verify the weight/amount? I called Arnold Farms and explained that I was paying three guys by the hour to stand in my yard because I paid for top soil, not compost, to spread over my lawn. Arnold Farms said they would send a truck with top soil in 20 minutes, which was great. And the driver did show up in 20 minutes--again, fantastic. However, the driver (a short, thin white male with brown hair named Rodney--or possibly Russell) got out of the truck and immediately started yelling aggressively at my crew, picking up the compro and holding it in their faces saying "This is top soil! This is the same thing that's in the truck." They politely told him it wasn't top soil and he continued yelling at them. I told him it was compro, showing him the leaves in it, and he got more agitated and aggressive, yelling and gesturing with his hands up in my face, picking up compost from both piles and saying, "It's the same thing! It's because this one is wet" I then realized that they didn't accidentally send me the wrong thing--they just sell compro as top soil. I explained that it was compro--and that it was nowhere near 5 tons. I asked where the ticket was, so we could verify the amount, and he said "I don't know, they didn't leave it?" I said no and he said he couldn't do anything about it. I asked how they verified that it was 5 tons and he said "They put it in buckets and weigh it, I don't know!" He said I'd have to talk to the owner, Walt Palmer, about getting the ticket, so I asked for his phone number and called. The phone rang once and Rodney suddenly found the ticket in the truck (imagine that), so I hung up during the first ring. The ticket confirmed what I paid for and ordered...but all three professional landscapers agreed with me that a) it wasn't top soil, and b) it was nowhere near 5 tons. Rodney asked "Well do you want it or not?" I told him he could leave it if they weren't charging me. He dumped the pile from the truck and nearly backed into my front porch (the flagstone porch AND the pillar holding the porch roof up). After he dumped the compro, he made a point to get back out of the truck, look at me, point to the pile, and smirk, "Well, THAT'S a lot more than 5 tons." I said, "Yeah, NOW it's 5 tons! Which shows that it wasn't before. And it's still not soil, like I ordered." The pile was about the same size as the previous one--so it was probably exactly the amount I had paid for--NOT that much more. They were just going to short me again with the second order. (There's absolutely no way it was 10 tons, which would have been double my order.) I called Walt, the owner, to share this experience with him. Although his phone had rang when I called moments before, he had turned his phone off all of a sudden. Convenient, right? I left a message explaining that I received compost instead of top soil, that I didn't receive the amount I paid for, that the pile they dumped blocked my driveway and garage, and the driver's rude, aggressive behavior. The owner, Walt Palmer, has never called me back--great customer service. I received the wrong product, it was terrible quality, it was MUCH less than the quantity I paid for, and I experienced the rudest service I can recall. I'll never use Arnold Farms again, and I caution you against using them as well. read more
