These folks just wasted my time. I called last week to get an estimate on the intallation of a wood core storm door. The receptionist said she would check, and after waiting on the line, she came back and said YES they can install that type of door. We made an appointment for today. A little while ago, the estimator call and said he not sure about a wood core storm door and will have to speak with the project enginner. Apparently the estimator doesn't know the products he sells and he didn't do the preliminary work for my estimate. I told him to cancel. I'm a retired engineer and I would never start a project like that. read more

Although the consultant was on time. I was not impressed with the entry door estimate process. The consultant did not have samples or explain in detail the types of materials that would be used, and had to go back to the vehicle to retrieve pamphlets. In comparison, other companies, listed on Angi, provided samples, explained installation details, and delivered complete estimates during the visit--not several days later. Additionally, the other estimates I received were $2,500 to $3,000 less than yours, making them a much better fit for my budget. read more

We bought a home in Annapolis in 2017 and the home inspection revealed some roof, gutter, & water problems. So we negotiated a credit at settlement and hired Fichtner to attempt to correct some issues with the stone facing on the front of the house. This was a difficult situation and the solution for this portion of the work was not entirely satisfactory, so my husband negotiated a reduction in the price. They also installed Leaf Relief gutter guards on the whole house, for which we paid separately, about $1400. I contacted Mr. Fichtner by email last week, explaining a gutter & downspout blockage on the rear of the house, and asked for an estimate to correct this new issue. When he did not respond last week, I called the office yesterday morning. The customer service person was very friendly and helpful. She looked up the job history and said they would come out this week, as a warranty run, this one time, to correct the problem. Today, I received a testy email from Mr. Fichtner saying it was not a warranty issue (I had asked in my email to him for an estimate, not a warranty repair. The office person had volunteeted that it would be covered by a warranty). I asked him to please schedule a crew to come and inspect the situation anyway, since the gutter is inaccessible for us (we are seniors). He replied that he was not sending anyone out, due to the issue with the other part of the work in 2017. So I was just trying to arrange a contractor, I was willing to pay as necessary, but he was extremely unpleasant. I believe they are well regarded for roofing work but the rude responses were unnecessary. PS. In response to the owner's comment below, he sent an email dated 1/22/18 agreeing to a reduction in the final payment to $1000. It appeared to us to be an amicable resolution. That amount was promptly paid. We also continued to get promotional messages from the company in 2019, such as Happy New Year and Happy Memorial Day. read more

I really enjoyed working with Fichtner. They cost more than other options but they also show more attention to detail. While scheduling took longer than we would've liked, the results were worth it. We had only one issue after the work was completed.The gutter guards we requested were not installed. My only regret is that I wish I could buy a new roof and siding from them tomorrow! They will be the first I call when I do! They took loved my little doggies too! I have nothing but good things to say about our experience with Fichtner Services. I first called Fichtner Services in January to inspect the roof above our garage. An estimator, Steve, came to our house to inspect. He explained that the drops we saw in the attic were due to condensation from our roof vent (or something like that, hey, I'm no profession, hence why I called Fichtner). Steve could have told me any number of things needed to be done to fix the roof; instead, he told me there was no evidence of water damage or active leak, and nothing needed to be done at this time. I told him how much I appreciated his honesty and his response was that the owner, Tom, tries to run an honest, no pressure business, so when we do need a roof replacement in X number of years, he hopes we remember them. Fast forward to March, when I woke up to a puddle of water in my family room one morning, who did I call... Ghostbusters! Wait, no, the water came from a hole in the roof, so I called Fichtner Services. To make an already long story (review) a little shorter, I'm going to skip some details... We needed a roof replacement. This was an unexpected and stressful experience for us, but Steve and Fichtner Services were there to help support us through the whole process. Their customer service is second to none. Every single interaction we had with anyone at Fichtner Services was always positive, from the woman who answered the phone the first time I called, Tara (I believe, I'm sorry if that is incorrect, I spoke to her 5 months ago), our estimator Steve, the scheduler Bob, our job supervisor Jan, to the crew and team leader Chappie (I'm so sorry I don't know all crew members names, but they were always smiling and making lovely bird calls). Communication was never lacking, we always knew we could reach out to Steve or Jan, and they would answer our call/text/e-mail expediently. They are called professionals for a reason. The craftsmanship is beautiful, and the work was done so skillfully and efficiently. I could literally go on and on, but I'll move onto two, very minor, hiccups... In any job of this magnitude, you are inevitably going to have minor things come up along the way. One of the men on the crew accidentally stepped through our attic floor, into the garage. Before we even knew what happened, Jan came to us, explained what happened, and said they would take care of repairing the damage (which they did, good as new). We are still working to fix the second issue (they just finished the roof yesterday, update will be provided). I feel that companies (and people) who take ownership of mistakes, and rectify them are worthy of the (often large) investment you made in them! So after reading the review below I need to tell everyone that I am not a robot, I am an actual reviewer and I use Yelp often when I'm happy and when I'm not. We used Fichtner on a recommendation of a friend after we were assessed for storm damage. Everything from the first contact by Shane the estimator, to Bob the production manager, to Ray the supervisor has been timely. The crew turned up on Monday morning and got straight to work, it took them a long day (at 94 degas) and they finished off sometime on the second day. Everything was left neat and tidy. So since the previous reviewer mentioned price. This job was estimated by our insurance carrier and the price quoted, which was what we paid, was less than we were given but insurance (we put up architectural shingles which has upgraded our previous builders grade roof). Rude, rude, rude. These people did the roof of my nextdoor neighbors. They basically insisted we move our car out of our own driveway so they could use it, at 8 am! But had their giant truck in the way of where we needed to go. We told them we would be leaving in 15 minutes but not good enough, they insisted we move right away. They were incredibly rude. They put a bunch of crap in our yard and in our driveway. Imagine a company you didn't even agree to do business with demanding to use your property! We are going to get our roof redone son too and will not use these people. I will be reviewing them on all platforms and we have let the rest of the neighbors know not to use them. read more

7/23/19: Editing my review only one day after my original one as this company went above and beyond to address my concerns. The owner called me after viewing my review, he apologized and spent quite a good amount of time explaining the issues with our roof. Not only that, but he sent a crew to my house less than an hour after we talked. They went on the roof, spent time explaining the issues, and provided solutions. I'll now await for a quote. Based on my second interaction with them, I'd recommend them. 7/22/19: Called to have them come check our roof since we have a stain on our kitchen ceiling. They said they would come out to do a free estimate. The estimator arrived and left in less than 5 minutes...literally. He didn't even go up on the roof to check what the issue was. He looked at our roof from the ground and said "you need to replace all this area and it's going to cost you around $8K. I'll send you the estimate in about a week." He didn't seem to care about our issue at all. Based on first impression, I would not recommend them. read more

We are extremely pleased with our roof. They roofed the main house, family room and garage and everything went smoothly. These guys were a well-oiled machine. It took two and a half days. They gave us an initial estimate but said because of the age of the roof, they may have to replace some of the wood which would be an additional cost. They also installed a "cricket" by our chimney which we had never had but is the proper way to ensure water runoff. We watched them install this and it took some time to do. They also installed a ridge vent on the family room roof. The initial time line was three weeks out but they called after a week and said they could install it earlier. They also did an amazing cleanup! The supervisor came by after everything was done to check things over and make sure we were satisfied. read more

I did my research before choosing a roofing contractor. (6-7 estimates) I got a new roof plus gutters and downspouts. Let me save you some time....go with Fichtner!! I'll explain why. They use quality GAF materials and are a MASTER ELITE installer. Their prices are very competitive. Their workers are experienced and good at what they do! They are honest. Zero sales pressure. I only had the loss of my driveway for a day (townhouse) because they bring a truck w/a dumpster on the back and get rid of the debris very quickly! They did the work within the estimated timeframe, and customer service is very important to them. Of note, they were the ONLY company that suggested I NOT get gutter guards on the front of my house. (less money for them!) It had to do with the roof design; heavy rain would be too much for gutter guards on my house and the water would completely overflow the gutters. Once that was explained to me it made perfect sense, yet NO other company brought that up. My estimator, Steve, was very honest, knew his stuff, and he's a former Marine so he's a good guy all-around. To their great credit, they custom-cut the drip-edge for me so that it would look good with the crown molding on my house. Also, the gutters they install are seamless - so there's less chance of gutter leaks. In addition, everyone I dealt with at the company was friendly and professional. Lastly, they even put new shingles on a small area off of my deck which was unexpected. Overall this experience could not have been better! They answered every question I had (and I had a lot), scheduling was a breeze, the work was done exactly as they said it would be done, cleanup was very good (please note, magnetic rakes are not perfect, no matter who uses them...), and the results were fantastic!! I never got to use their services or speak with anyone. I'm a big believer in shopping local. I sent an inquiry via the website in December for someone to contact me for door and window replacement. I never heard back from anyone. Ok..it's the holidays... people are away. I tried again in January and received a call back. I was at work when the call came and the person left me a voice mail. I returned the call the same day and in turn got that person's voice mail. I left a message with my name and number. Nope...no return call...ever. If I'm spending five figures on a job, I don't expect to have to keep calling you. What's it going to be like during the job and after should issues/questions arise? First impressions are everything. Had a leaking 2nd story window that was dripping water into the room below. Turns out that because the window was not first installed properly, it had rotted out and had created the problem. Fichtner was the only company that diagnosed the problem correctly and provided a reasonable quote. After using the team from Fitchner I had decided to get a roofing quote from them about a year later. This was even after I thought I had found a roofing guy (See one of my older posts). After comparing roofing quotes I decided to go with Fitchner because of the size of the job, along with their outstanding quality and reasonable pricing. The entire team did a great job. read more

I found Fichtner on the BBB website where I was looking for a licensed and bonded contractor and I could also see other details like number of employees, years in business, and consumer complaints (if any). Called them to analyze a few small leaks in our roof and also give us a free estimate on the installation of a new roof. Kevin showed up exactly as scheduled in a marked truck with all the right tools required to do the job. You'll be surprised how much you can tell about a contractor by looking at their work truck. It's an extension of their office..think about that. He first went up on the roof to check out the source of the leak and overall condition of the roof. Took pictures to show us where the tiles were not functioning as installed and even told us that it didn't look like a big deal. Next, he went into the attic and found three sites where water had seeped in. Took pics of the plywood sheet which was rotting, but easily replaceable. What Kevin did next was unbelievable. Even though it was 53 degrees (cold), 84% precipitation (raining), and winds blowing at 6 mph (chilly), he still got up on the roof to fix the small leaks in a manner than only a professional would. Took more pics to show us how he had fixed the problem and gave us a quick free estimate if we still wanted the whole roof done. Best of all, he didn't even charge a penny for getting up on the roof and hopefully addressing the issue at least until we decide to get the roof replaced. I don't think I want to price shop anymore since the customer service from Fichtner was stellar. read more

He listened to what was going on, hopped up on the roof, took some pictures and showed me what was wrong. Had thought through several alternatives with me, but finally figured out what we could do to resolve the problem in his visit. Very knowledgeable. We recently hired Fichtner Services to bring our insulation up to standard in the attic. The first thing I noticed was the preparation that the tech (Carl) did prior to starting the job. He covered every inch of the areas he would be accessing the work area. He was polite during the entire time he was here, and upon finishing he cleaned up after himself as good as I have ever seen from a contractor. We hired Fichtner to replace our roof after wind storm damage. The crew with supervisor showed up 15 mins early and got right to work. The truck with Crane pulled up to place the pallets of material on the roof followed by a truck with a dumpster for debris. They operate like a well oiled machine. Everyone was professional and very hard working. The job looks excellent and everything was cleaned up nicely (for most part, see below) Cons: 1) took 2 days to remove dumpster after work completed which prevented use of driveway and garage 2) despite them using a magnetic broom, I walked around the house and especially driveway, and still found nails on the ground. Last thing I need is one in a car tire. I still give 5 stars as they were able to finish the job start to finish in 1 day and they roof looks amazing. Would highly recommend to others. read more

I called the inquire about gutter cleaning. The lady on the phone explained that they start at $250 for a small single family home. I asked what it would cost for a 3000 sq ft home with a walk out basement. She was unable to tell me and said that they would have to research the home on google maps. To me that means she has to log onto zillow and see how much your house costs in order to gouge you extra. The lady then added that cleaning down spouts is another $50 to $100. I asked her what is the reason for the excessive pricing. She explained that they are a large company and need to charge more money than a smaller business. That makes no sense. A bigger business should be able to charge less because they have the economics of scale working to help them. Needless to say, I will keep looking for a more reasonably priced contractor. As a side note, I noticed that there were 22 reviews on yelp for this business that were flagged as "Not recommended by Yelp." I reviewed them and found that they appear all fake as all of the reviewers had done only one review and it was a positive review just for this business. This made me very skeptical of their reviews placed on google and Facebook. It seems that they tried to inflate their customer review experience which is a poor practice. Businesses should strive to deliver great service at a reasonable price and then their customers will reward them with great reviews. But, what do I know. I will keep looking for a more reasonably priced gutter cleaning/roofing service in the Anne Arundel county area. Yes, most of your positive reviews are fake which is why they were flagged as so by Yelp. This is not because you failed to pay Yelp. I do not work for Yelp. My review is correct and accurate. You are a bully and I would not want to do business with you. On the flip side, I used "Bay Area Home Services" who were able to perform gutter cleaning for straight up $95 not $300 to $500 like Megan was quoting me over the phone. I called Fichtner to get a quote on replacing (upsizing) some of my gutters, the old ones were too small for the amount of roof that I had. Mike came out the next day and measured for a quote. I received a quote the following day, it was in the ballpark of what I was expecting. Not cheap, but not extortionate. We have a very nice house and I always think that contractors take one look at our house and add a zero to their quote! I was looking for good quality work at a reasonable price. Anyway, I signed up and the follow up admin took a while (over a week) so I called the office to ask when they might be calling me to schedule the work and was told it would take a couple of weeks. They must be busy, and therefore good (?) But I had a phone call two days later, early on a Saturday morning, saying they had just a cancellation on a job and could fit me in immediately. The crew of two worked all day in blistering humidity. The work looks excellent. The crew tidied up perfectly. We had some damage to our home during a series of storms. We got three quotes, one being from Fichtner Services. Their quote was awesome and everyone that we had communication with was very kind. They came out very quickly to take a look at what we needed done and left us a detailed list of the scope of work and costs. They actually helped guide us through the process entirely which was a huge help. For the work we needed done, we had to coordinate with our power company so there was an extra layer to this repair we were not expecting. Because the power had to be off, we had to make sure we could get Pepco out in the morning, get the repairs done, and then have the power turned back on. I actually thought it would be impossible for a short period of time but they were incredibly accommodating and when the day to actually do the work arrived they were outstanding. The portion of our home that they repaired looks as good as new. So in a nutshell, great staff, great work and great price. What's not to love! read more
