My project was complicated because my 1980s drywall shafts were the wrong size for modern solar blinds. Instead of just "making it work" or creating a huge mess with drywall dust, Zach proposed a brilliant custom solution: building a clean birch veneer box with custom trim. It looks stunning and kept my house completely dust-free. What impressed me most was Zach's integrity. During the install, a small piece of my old plastic molding snapped. Instead of ignoring it, Zach took full ownership and replaced the trim on both skylights with upgraded foam-backed wood molding at his own expense to ensure everything was airtight and uniform. I've hired Winfield Builders twice, once to replace my roof in summer 2021 and again in summer 2022 to replace my gutters. Zach made a strong impression from the start--when he came out to inspect my roof and I told him of a problem area, he went up on the roof to look at it! He is extremely customer-focused and said repeatedly that he is all about making sure that his customers are 100% happy. And we are, two years after the work was done. Well, this is a first for me! I'm writing a review based on a contractor's commitment to customer service, and they haven't even done any work for me. I called Winfield Builders for a quote to replace my roof and siding. Zack (owner) called me back late in the afternoon on the same day (which was appreciated). I explained my situation and in the process shared my address. Zack interrupted me to let me know that he's not, at this time, licensed in Virginia. I thought that might be the end of the call. Rather, Zack went on to suggest how I should approach the situation. He spent his valuable time on how I should approach the contractor process (get 3 bids), the quality of materials that he uses and suggested I should have used, how to work with my insurance company (storm damage) and other helpful tips. I was sincerely shocked that he would go out of his way to share these insights with me. Prior to calling Winfield, I decided I would only work with a highly rated contractor. Winfield Builders has a perfect score of 5 with 25 ratings! If you have ever worked with the public, you can appreciate how challenging that score is to achieve. I ended the call being disappointed that I am not able to take advantage of the services offered by Winfield Builders. After enduring pushy and overpriced salesmen from other roofing companies in the area, I finally had an estimate appointment with Zach at Winfield Builders. Right off the bat he was personable, genuine, patient and showed that he really cared about the client. Their quote came in at second lowest, but definitely was number one when it came to value for price. Throughout the process, working with Zach was seamless. He was responsive to emails and texts. During the roof replacement I was not home and he sent texts with updates and photos. After the roof was completed (1.5 days, the old roof was harder to get off than anticipated), the yard was free of debris with the exception of 5-10 that I've found so far around the deck. I spoke with Zach at length about my project; and then Paul and Zach (father and son duo) came out to take measurements. I asked MANY questions and they answered every single one. I just got a new roof on our barn/4 car garage which is way in the back yard separated by a lot of lawn. They did a good job of not tearing up the lawn. The owner was present during the project because it was a little different than their usual worksite. They got it done in 2 days (it's a big steep roof) and replaced a reasonable number of plywood sheets. Their initial estimate was in line with a few other estimates I got and the final cost did not significantly exceed what was expected. They were also able to squeeze it between rain storms, so no more leak. Clean-up wasn't perfect, but as well as can be expected. No complaints. No surprises. That's all I want. I'd definately recommend them and use them again. Update - The owner followed up with me because he wanted to make sure that his workers did not leave a mess. I wasn't trying to get anyone in trouble. It wasn't "perfect", but maybe I should have added that it was cleaner than I would have left it. It's a large garage (4 cars) with a lot of junk in it and a few of the thin plastics strips from the adhesives strips on the shingles blew into the garage while they were working. I don't really expect roofers to clean out my garage, so that's all I meant by it wasn't "perfect." I called Winfield after a disappointing visit from Braxx to identify a ceiling leak that I suspected was from the roof's flashing. Zach picked up and my interaction with him was markedly different than any of the other places I called. Zach must have spent 20 minutes on the phone with me as I explained my problem and he looked through photos I had shared via Yelp messaging. Throughout he was extremely personable, sympathetic, and helpful. Unfortunately Winfield was booked solidly and was going to be unable to directly assist me, but the advice he provided was invaluable (it was my first time dealing with roofing). This is a hidden gem in MD. We got our roof replaced with Winfield and it was a completely pleasant experience from the get-go. Zach is extremely professional and came in to give an estimate. Zach's estimate was very reasonable and the cheapest among the three estimates that we had. I was just pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail paid by Zach (shingle type, shingle color etc.) and his team. His team promptly came on time and replaced the roof in a day. We also had them tack the gutters back in place as we could see rain water drip through them. After they finished installing, I did see some signs of rain water drip through the gutters and Zach was kind enough to come the next day and tack them back in place. Zach is always a text away and I really appreciated his prompt communication. For sure, we are going to use their services for any other external house work in the future (sidings, gutters etc.). I am thoroughly satisfied with their service and highly recommend them. In addition, we wanted to get couple of rooms painted. Let me start out by saying, our old deck was a mine field! It had splinters, uprooted nails and the steps That were a death trap. What I loved about Winfield Builders is Paul (General Contract), was always accessible either in person or via phone, and he would come to look at how the guys were doing. After our initial meeting, he listened and then proceeded into a discussion on a couple of different options. I had already interviewed a few contractors by then. I knew I wanted Paul and his crew to do the job. He fell on the middle ground when it came to cost. Paul was very detailed in the types of material his crew would be using. They were very methodical and has a fantastic crew chief who I would consider a master carpenter. Wow, they were incredibly impressive. They worked fast. It only took 2 hours for the crew to take down the old deck. Every day they came in with a plan. They even built us custom gates because they felt the manufacturer's quality of their gates were not up to par. Now that's what I call old fashioned customer service. I had wind damage to my roof that resulted in rain entering my bedroom. When I contacted Zach, he came out to the same day, climbed up on the roof and took a look. He told me what was wrong and explained things when I had questions. He was always quick to respond when I contacted him. He did lots of leg work to handle my insurance company for me. I don't know what a roof is supposed to cost, but I can say two things: (1) he agreed to accept the insurance company's prices (2) we upgraded to a better shingle than my insurance would pay for intending to pay extra and in the end Zach did not charge us more than my deductible for the higher grade shingle. I hope I don't need a roof again anytime soon, but if I do, I will call Zach at Winfield. read more

We got the siding replaced from wood to vinyl. The final job looks very good, even a different contractor working with my neighbor give us a compliment. After contacting the company, Zach visited our place right away, and gave as a fair quote. He was clear about the changes he could do and different possibilities. He was patient with us, and most importantly he was able to schedule the work before our baby was born ( which we explained to him and he did his best). I was at home during the work, it can get messy but they did their best to clean after it was finished. After the work was done, we had a small concern about the gathers and Zach personally came and check them. He also came 1 month later after we had a leak on a window, which ended up being a window issue, but it was good to know that he was available and responsive to our questions and worries. Zachary arranged for the install and was always accessible, reliable, friendly, and honest. Shawn (Winfield Employee) met with the adjuster to go over the damage with the insurance adjuster and to keep them honest. As we all know, insurance companies are quick to deny claims. Thanks to Winfield, I got a brand new roof for the low cost of $500 (my homeowners deductible). They saved me thousands of dollars, were not too pushy and did impeccable work.
