I needed new windows and new sliding glass doors. The previous owners of our appartment had put in the cheapest possible units with the cheapest possible labor. With regards to the heating of our home, the windows were no better than screens. I reached out, looking for windows and installers. I had a few people come in and estimate the job. None of them impressed me until Greg from Windows on Washington came over. He walked me through several options and explained how the windows they used were manufactured and why. Windows on Washington got the job. My windows and my doors were being manufactured. So they sent out a wonderful gentleman to get the final accurate measurements. Great guy. After that, communication was wonderful as were were assessed of the stage we were in. This included when we got the email and calls explaining that, since we were on a higher floor, they needed to bring in some equipment to lift the new doors up to our balcony. No surprises. Installation day was amazing as Joon and his team came in, got everything into place, and cleaned up the areas to better than when they got here. Joon then went over the features on our windows and even explained how we get to and clean the outsides of the glass. Wonderful man and amazing team. Since then, we have gotten copies of our warranty and the guarantees. And the company has reached out twice to ask if we have any questions and to ensure that we are happy with our windows. We are. I needed an insulated picture window replacement. I believe we used that business a few years ago when we replaced uninsulated picture windows on the front side of the house. The sales representative did not believe that WW did that kind of thing anymore, but had a very difficult time understanding the kind of window I was describing. I spoke with that person 3 times to try to help him understand this is not a typical window, but one that is fixed in place. To no avail, I chose another company. I'm reviewing WoW for the second time. The first review was for their replacement windows, which was an absolutely flawless experience! Their windows are tops & have performed perfectly ever since. I continue to highly recommend them for replacement windows. Because of our superb experience the first time 'round we contracted with them via their most excellent salesman Brandon Shonebarger for a new entry door and storm door. This time 'round there were problems from the installation on. I won't give a blow by blow here as it's too long & too much. Suffice it to say that the repairs took as long to complete as the initial order time line & required multiple trips & two different repair people!! I need to give a shout out to the second repair man - Plamen - he was actually the original installer until the main installer guy showed up & basically took over). Plamen spent close to 3 hours making the needed adjustments & repairs to make sure that the entry door & storm door worked properly. He patiently explained why one of the multiple issues could not be solved (due to physics, but which I think the industry could easily solve). Plamen worked his butt off, was professional, courteous, conscientious, & the best part of the whole experience. I cannot recommend WoW for replacement entry doors & storm doors, with the same level of enthusiasm that I can for replacement windows. That's too bad. She provided a detailed estimate and changed details that we needed changing. Tanya West in billing was very efficient and easy to understand and the setup is professional. Final results were even better than I expected. Project included new windows throughout included replacing rotting window sills, new exterior doors, and new siding in beautiful colors that I actually chose. I had accessed the Alside siding website for an AI image to provide to the HOA while seeking approval and that AI generated image looked better than the original (thus was approved by the HOA) but the actual finished project looked better still and exceeded my expectations. I marvel at how much I love the appearance of my house, also love that all the doors lock properly and the sliding glass back door actually slides more smoothly than ever. The windows seem to be much better insulated too. Harbor Blue siding was chosen to replace the Colonial Ivory. Black shutters to replace the green. Red door replaced the front door which also had been green. Bright white trim including gutters/downspouts and soffits. The front door had sidelights which I decided to keep and I had thought the glass would be frosted but it was not (probably my misunderstanding) this was something I remedied myself with a window film from a home improvement store (same as I had done over a decade prior on the old ones). Gone is the damaged boring color siding, rotted wood trim around the poorly insulated windows and doors (which looked their age of 31 years). The new exterior makes the house look brand new, we have received a lot of compliments from both neighbors and friends. read more

I am absolutely thrilled with our windows from WOW. From the initial consultation to the window measurements, I was impressed by the customer service and communication. I live in a condo and they understood the HOA rules and requesting variance for my frosted bathroom windows. I was advised of the window delivery timeframe given the supply chain issues and the windows were actually delivered at the shorter end of the timeframe. Every part of my experience with Windows on Washington (WoW) was excellent. From the time I contacted them for information, to setting up my initial appointment to get an estimate, to ordering, installation and customer service (more on this in a minute) were simply second to none. Based on other reviews, I knew WoW was not the cheapest place for windows but I also read of the great quality products, installation and customer service. Let me say that their pricing is comparable and more than fair, and their products, service and installation are simply outstanding. I love my new windows! This is one of the very few places that vastly exceeded my expectations. Don't get the wrong impression that everything went perfectly. It did not. Based on the fact that some of my windows vary slightly in size, the manufacturer sent a couple of windows with the incorrect handles. This is where WoW stepped up and demonstrated why they have the best customer service. They worked with the manufacturer to correct the issue and made it 100% right. They worked as my advocate each step of the way and made sure I was completely happy before calling the job complete. There was no effort required on my part as WoW took care of everything. I only wish every business were as ethical and service oriented. As for the windows themselves, they are top quality and perfectly installed. And I do mean perfectly! My house looks better and is quieter and more comfortable. The windows are so solid that they feel and sound like mini bank vault doors. Cosmetically, the area around the windows (inside and out) looks and is better than before. There are no marks, scratches, dings, leaks, air gaps, nothing. We have had our windows for a couple of months now and dealt with rain, snow and very high winds (40 mph+ gusts). From the inside of my house, you cannot tell what the weather is outside. I had a mixed experience with WoW, and this review is actually averaging my windows replacement project (5 star experience) and an attempted skylights project (1 star). For windows: like others I had a good experience with Brian (sales) and Joon (installation). Prices for OKNA windows are not cheap, and like others I had to wait a long time for the windows. But, once they came in, the installation went quickly and smoothly. They did bring the wrong sized screens, and didn't seem to notice until I brought it up, but the correct full screens were ordered and installed in a follow-up visit a few weeks later. For skylights: this experience was a bit of a disaster, and felt like I was dealing with a different, much less competent company. (WoW seems to have different teams for windows vs. roofing projects.) Many months of delays, sporadic communication, and ultimately the installation crew arrived with the wrong type of skylights. Jim Sigmund, the coordinator, said that when they came to measure the skylights, they noted the wrong type of skylight, and no one caught it. 6 months wasted. WoW did issue a refund relatively quickly after that, though. I want to be fair to WoW--I think the windows are good quality. However, I would not recommend getting skylights from them. read more

I needed to replace eight 20-year old windows on the front of my house and received two quotes that were close in price. WoW was the more affordable option, had great reviews, and provided a very knowledgeable consultant to work with. I began the process in May 2021, and final installation was completed in early October due long delays in the manufacture process I'm sure we're all familiar with by now. The installation crew arrived on the early side of the 1-hour window I was given, which I appreciated. The crew was polite, professional, and most of all very efficient. In just over 3 hours the crew had removed all my old windows, installed the new ones and they did a great job of cleaning up after themselves as well. For starters and for those who aren't aware of Eric, he is the owner of WoW and is one of the key contributors for the replacement window forum, the largest forum in the US for contractors and consumers to discuss window needs. When I started my process of digging up information on windows, I had no idea where to start, who to go to, and what to do. This process was atrociously confusing even for a savvy consumer myself, especially where there is so much technical knowledge involved (e.g., U-factor, solar heat gain coefficient, virgin vinyl, etc.). Who and where would you go to get this information? For myself, the replacement window forum was one of the most important places where I was able to learn and get reaffirmation on key steps that I needed to understand throughout the buying and installation process. Eric and several other contributing members in the forum are some of the best experts in the nation and their honesty and transparency allow you to really help you understand the nuts and bolts of everything you need to know about windows. Long story short, they recommend fantastic products (well the best) for your money (such as Okna if you are going for vinyl). It's more expensive than your builder grade windows but digging through the forum, you'll learn why it's so important to buy good windows and what you should really look for. You don't want to go too cheap (e.g., HD or Lowe's) nor do you want to go too expensive (E.g., renewal by anderson which is largely a marketing gimmick). Where Eric and his team really shine are when you run into your situation specific problems during the entire window buying and install process. Trust me when I say this. You are going to run into SOME kind of problem and that answer will not readily "googleable". In this day and age where order wait times are more than 6 months because of supply chain issues and factories are screwing up left and right with orders, and contractors are messing up, you don't want to be left in the cold without a way to fix the problem. Moreover, you want honest contractors who can help you through. Once again, I reiterate this. You are MOST likely (if not almost guaranteed) to run into issues. If you think window buying experience is like an amazon one-click purchase you are so dead wrong. No matter how much Eric or any business owner tries to prevent issues, something is bound to go wrong. The question is, do you want someone who is honest, knowledgable, and willing to fix the issue on your side or do you want some slimeball who tries to avoid taking responsibility and gives you massive headache? With a 5 digit dollar puchase, you don't want to take this kind of risk and go with someone who is knowledgable and trustworthy like Eric. Normally, I would cringe when I see a few 1-3 star reviews but I wouldn't be bothered by them for WoW. They are overall at 4.5 star or more and in this day and age, I have yet to see any window install go correctly for the many folks who had their window installs done since the pandemic began. The most important factor is whether your contractor is trustworthy, knowledgable, and is willing to fix the issue. If you have any more questions about Eric, you should go on a search engine and look for his replacement window forum (not linking due to yelp rules). If you spend some time (which you should since it's a lot of money), you'll know what kind of a great person he is and what reputation he has built over the years. read more

I like to take my time and wait before posting any review, particularly with home improvement projects. My experience with WOW was outstanding from start to finish. From Jay H. giving me an honest and transparant estimate, as well as a realistic time from for when the door would actually arrive. I was having my front door and frame replaced. Throughout the whole process they were extremely communicative and kept me appraised of every update. The day of the installation everything went very smoothly, from the crew showing up on time to their professionalism. They did their very best to minimize the mess and noise while still working quickly. They did a fantastic job cleaning up and disposing of the materials as well. I wanted to wait to write my review, the door was installed several months ago, until I was sure there were no issues. I got 3-4 quotes before deciding on WoW, Zach the sales person actually listened to my requirements and was very informative on options and was on hand to answer any questions I had from sale to install and very quick to respond. I hope this 1000+ word review saves you pain. Because after negotiating with 12+ DC area window companies for months, Windows on Washington was completely painless. Let me tell you why: Here's what was important to me: **I wanted very insulating windows. I had old 1950's metal windows that leaked so much air, ice formed on the inside during the winter. We also had been scarred by some newer Andersen double hung windows that leaked air. **I wanted a very high level of installation quality. We already had some windows replaced a couple of years ago, and the windows clearly were leaking air around them. (poor caulk job) ** I wanted a guarantee that any problems would be taken care of. I was willing to pay a little bit more, to know that I could just call someone and they would take care of ANY problems, in an honest and swift manner. I didn't want to deal with the manufacturers. Deciding on Window Installers In the DC area there were 3-4 kinds of installers that kept coming up: National Players - Home Depot, Andersen, Thompson Local Installers - These are larger companies with multiple crews. This is what they do for a living. They tend to have preferred brands, so you'll have to take their advice with a grain of salt Roofing/Siding/Window teams - I liked a number of the companies I met, but they failed me in two areas: 1) When I asked them what percent of their jobs were windows, they often said less than half. I'm looking for teams that are well versed in window installation. I understand that doing 10 a year means your an expert. But if you're not doing 50 a year, then you might be a little rusty, or sloppy. 2) A lot of times these teams didn't have window experts (related to the above). They said their crews did it all, which made me concerned with their level of expertise Home Improvement - These are truly jack of all trades and do everything from countertops to doors to bathrooms to windows! I'm sure they could of done the job well, but they rarely offered me warranties on labor beyond 2 years and my biggest concern was that if something didn't go well, they would be painful to deal with since they wouldn't engage with the window manufacturer directly. As I mentioned earlier, I was looking for more white-glove service, so I definitely wanted a contractor that would handle any issues (condensation, cracked vinyl, leaky air, etc) I ended up with two front-runners: Quality Window and Door - I liked them a lot. Salesperson was honest, although a little slow at turning around revisions. Pricing was expensive, but they seemed like a high-quality shop. In the end, I just didn't trust the windows they were selling. Every time I read reviews on windows the salesperson suggested, I found lots of people with issues in the DC area with that brand and I ultimately hesitated. I also didn't find his suggestions on brands helpful. There was no "here are the Pros and here are the Cons". It was just "Here's what I think you should do." I feel bad. They spent quite a bit of time with me, but in the end, I didn't feel that I would end up with a high quality window. I decided on WINDOWS ON WASHINGTON? Why? They definitely weren't the cheapest, but they -Sold OKNAS (an amazing window, the air infiltration rate is out of this world, which means NO WINTER DRAFTS, the sun reflection is perfect and the locking system is incredibly smooth) -Offered a lifetime warranty on Windows and Labor -Did not have pushy sales people and did not try to upsell me -Were reasonable about considering other offers -Were confident and articulate in how they would deal with problems that might arise during and after the installation (again, I wanted full-service here) -Wanted to make sure I was happy and it felt like they had a reputation they wanted to maintain. WHAT I LOVED -The attention to detail was amazing. From laying down protective canvas, to carefully prying out my 50-year old windows without damaging the outdoor brick or indoor drywall. I didn't even need to paint afterwards. -The caulking and insulation job was top notch. Seamless application and done well. Most sealers won't consider that you need to use different caulk thicknesses depending on what part of the window you're sealing. It was obvious that the caulker from WoW used thinner caulk when needed and put wide caulk on when appropriate. Smooth as butter and looks perfect. -Boy did they vacuum. There wasn't a crumb of anything left anywhere when they left. In the end, I feel very confident that if any issues arise, WoW is going to completely take care of it. No dealing with the manufacturer, no second-guessing. This company went out of it's way to make me feel like I was getting white-glove service and I'm repaying the favor with this pretty long review. It seems a little redundant to give a 5-star review to a company that already has 147 of them, but strength in numbers, right? Take home message: Simply put, Windows on Washington (WW) is awesome. Do not hesitate to hire them, you're just wasting your own time having a senseless debate. We contacted three window companies for evaluations and estimates. The first place was "meh," at best, with the owner tell me what I wanted instead of listening to what we were saying. You are the expert, I get that. I am the consumer; at least PRETEND like you are considering my needs and concerns into your answers. The second place was WW, and that's where we stopped. Zach, the representative sent to provide the estimate, was super personable, very friendly, and extremely professional. He listened to our thoughts on what we wanted, and gave excellent recommendations. What I really liked about it was that he was not trying to talk us out of anything, but rather provided the pros and cons to each decision. For example, we wanted triple pane glass for various reasons, and he explained how that would be overkill in some instances and not even provide a benefit in others. We were impressed with his knowledge, honesty and customer interaction. He left, and after a fast discussion, my wife and I ran after him and said, "Send a contract. We'll sign it and you're hired." That was May 9. It was smooth sailing after that. An appointment was someone to take exact measurements was scheduled on May 16. I provided a down payment online, and we were told the windows (OKNA Insul-tec 500dx) were ordered but would be delayed (thanks, COVID-19). They arrived in the warehouse on June 24, and installation was scheduled for today, July 9. The install crew was awesome, and I apologize/suck for not recalling their names. They were fantastic and deserve kudos. They arrived around 8:30am, and in just over and hour had the 10 old windows out and the new windows in place. They were gone just before 2pm, with everything complete--cutting and installing outside treatments, caulking, etc. Insane. They cleaned up afterwards and left everything in fantastic shape. Overall, this was just a sensational experience. We expected to pay around $10k for all this, but the final bill was just under $7k. We have excellent windows, with an excellent warranty, and know that everything is backed by outstanding customer service. They were very communicative with inquiries and concerns, which is a big plus with us. I don't expect to need new windows in this house again, but if I do, or if I move into a new house that does need new windows, I will most certainly be making just one call--to Windows on Washington. read more

Detailed review of our experience follows because windows are a big investment! Quick summary at the end if you just want the bottom line. After getting several quotes from the big national window players, we were fed up and feeling hopeless about replacing our windows. Quotes for the job were north of $25,000 for 17 windows (nothing out of the ordinary, no oversized windows, no giant picture windows, no doors) to replace the original wood windows on our 1960s house. That just wasn't going to happen. Finally, off a recommendation on NextDoor, we called Windows on Washington out. Finally, a company that did a sales pitch in a reasonable amount of time. No three hour song and dance (looking at you WINDOW NATION and POWER HOME REMODELING - ugh!). Thanks to Greg for that. He gave us a great product demonstration and helped us pick a middle of the road Okta vinyl window model that would meet our needs. We added triple panes to some south facing windows in areas we have challenges with solar heating during the summer. We also decided to have WoW give us a quote for a 10 foot custom sliding glass door that we wanted to add as part of our kitchen/living area renovation. There was no existing door in this location so this wasn't just swapping doors in and out. The other window companies had given us quotes so high we hadn't even broached this subject with them. Our quote, even including the 10 foot custom glass door was about $24k - $10k of that being for the door (this included demolishing existing exterior brick wall, window and smaller door to create new 10 foot opening, installing new 10 foot LVL header as this was a load bearing exterior wall), $14k for the windows. Working on a budget, we wanted to bring this number down a bit, so we had them take off the demolition and prep of the new 10 foot span, bringing the price down to $19k, and planned to do this job ourselves (do not recommend unless you are a serious DIYer with architectural and engineering knowledge, construction experience plus a whole lot of muscle and tools!) We signed a contract and took advantage of 6 months no interest financing to pay off the windows. WoW sent the crew foreman Young (sorry I don't know for sure the right spelling) for our job out to take formal measurements within a few days. He was the STAR of this entire operation from the moment we met him until completion of install. Thank you Young!!!! Signed contract September. Given 8-10 weeks target for install (have to wait for windows to be made and shipped) - putting us right around Thanksgiving. At about the 10 week mark on November 20 we were notified the materials had arrived in their warehouse and were offered an install date of December 27. Yikes. Not at all what we were told to expect. We pushed back a bit and were given an open "weather day" which they hold open for jobs that can't be completed due to weather - December 11. Install day came and luckily weather was good. Young kept the job moving right along and my husband informed every step of the way as things progressed - especially with the door. We got the thumbs up on our work and the install went smoothly. Young even cut molding for us to trim out the interior side of the new door for when we had new drywall hung. The crew worked speedily and the install was done in one day, everyone cleaned up and the place was spotless afterwards. I have since texted Young a couple questions and he's always responded. Much appreciated Young! The only hiccup was with the door handle on the slider. Apparently the handle style just recently changed and the new style is a HUGE pain to open. If you're a senior or struggle with arthritis I see no way you could operate this door, so take care to double check your handle. The handle unfortunately did not loosen up over time. We contacted WoW and they sent a tech out who swapped our handle for the old traditional sliding door handle. Our tech Bill was great! He let us know that these handles seem to be having issues across the board and also informed that there a variety of handle choices for the door that we should have been presented with when we made our initial selections. We were not told there were any options, unfortunately. SUMMARY All in all, the Okta windows are beautiful, high end looking (if you've seen cheap basic vinyl windows with reduced glass viewing area and junky trim then you know what I mean), fantastic and energy efficient, the trim job on the exterior of our house is wonderful and properly sealed on every single window. The new glass door is spectacular. We appreciated the flexibility of letting us handle demo for the door to save on costs Young was an awesome foreman and a true star employee. Scheduling was a bit tough, but they redeemed themselves by helping us swap out to a better door handle after the job for no cost. Very happy with the products and service. We just got two windows, a door and a sliding glass door installed. It took about 5 months for all the pieces to arrive, but I can't fault Windows on Washington for that. Both the salesman and install team were prompt and arrived exactly when they said. We received regular updates from their office regarding the status of our order, without having to prompt or prod them. We even did a change to our order once it was measured and they were very accommodating. The day of the install, their team did their job quickly and did a fantastic job installing everything. The new windows look great and the doors are rock solid. We'll go back to them for all of our future window and door needs, no question. read more

I have held off on this review hoping the issue with the doors would be resolved and waiting for winter to see if the windows would hold up to the cold. Thankfully the windows seem to be better than those that came with this 1960s build we purchased last year and we do not have an actual draft in the living room. So here is the issue that has me so frustrated, it is our front and side doors. The sales guy (Greg) put so much time into the windows and his presentations, we knew we wanted new windows and we both get that they have been improvements and that we needed new windows. We didn't talk about doors until the after all the window demonstrations were done. I showed Greg pictures of the door models we had liked. He said they could not get us ones with the dental ledge (I learned that term later when trying to get the issue resolved). The doors we showed him were a traditional with a four section half circle window and one with a larger rectangle on the top with six sections and a dental ledge. As I mentioned they apparently did not have the dental ledge option which I begrudgingly accepted, it was late and I was ready to be done with this visit. I did make sure to specifically ask that no peep hole be involved. I was assured this wasn't even something they normally did anymore and we said good. We joked about how it would be ridiculous and where would it go, etc, etc. When it came time for the installation I was shocked to see that the door windows did not have the sectional divides and, wait for it, there were peep holes in both doors. These peep holes are one inch below the window itself so that even if someone did want to use it their head would still show making it completely ridiculous. Add to that the windows are large enough that when either of us stand in front of the door our necks and heads show making you have to wonder what possessed them to add the peep holes (that are not standard) when we specifically made an effort to verify there would not be any such peep holes. When I reached out to Greg after the installation and it was immediately obvious he did not remember the sale and he quickly punted us to a manager, Dave. Fast forward several months later and we still have doors without divides on the windows and with peep holes an inch below the windows. For a while I was told a dental ledge could be placed on both the inside and out to cover the peep hole but even that has trickled out and most recently they want me to pay to replace the doors. I still don't understand why the peep hole cannot be removed and filled and have a dental ledge added on the outside. I have given up on the divides for the door windows and expect I will hire a contractor to try and fix this mess. Since then we have gotten the rest of the windows (we had held on the three bedrooms) replaced by a different vendor leaving me wishing I had connected with the second vendor earlier and wondering if it would have saved us from this door nightmare. If I could give a piece of advice to window/door sales teams it would be if you expect someone to get doors and windows then please, please discuss the doors first as those involve more variables and something your potential customer will see and touch every single day. read more
