I am building some home made closets for the rooms in our house, and I needed a couple of screws and brackets. The traditional big box hardware store is mikes and mikes away, and asking for help at those places has always been hit or miss. This Ace hardware store is located right in the center of town, and it is definitely a well sticked and a full service hardware store. Their prices may be a little higher but the convenience factor far outweighs the additionally cost. I was helped immediately by an awesome employee, and he directed me to the exact section that had closet brackets, and then he directed me to where the small screws were located. I was surprised to see their extensive paint section, and they even have Christmas gear already on display. I really do appreciate the personalized attention from the folks who work here. read more

Scott was AWESOME! I reluctantly went to my local Ace. I've had unpleasant customer service experiences in the past, but it's cold and I didn't feel like driving to Lowe's. Scott approached me to inquire if I needed assistance and proceeded to make excellent recommendations for my project! When he noticed I purchased some polyurethane, the recommended I let him shake it up in case it'd been sitting for a while. I hadn't considered that and appreciated the suggestion. Today I needed a few feet of door bell wire. I stopped at the Silver Spring Ace Hardware and after asking if they had it , I was directed to aisle 16. I originally asked for 10 feet, and asked the price. After checking with someone, the person helping me said $1.59 per foot. This is the same wire sold on Amazon for $7.88 for a 25 foot package and delivered the next day. The Home Depot sells it for.30 cents per foot and Lowe's for .28 cents. I could understand 39or 49 cents per foot but not $1.59. I can understand that this store is not as large as others, and costs are high, but over five times the price of other stores is unconscionable. I didn't have time to get to another store so, I purchased 5 feet, which was enough for the job. I will not patronize that store, the prices are too high. read more

I feel not much has changed since Ace took over ownership of this former Strosnider's. Everything just feels and looks the same. I got a free pint paint sample just by using my Ace rewards card. I'm not really sure what the benefits of the reward card are. Maybe special sales? I know when I used it in Michigan Ace used to send sale flyers in the mail. It would be nice if you are an Ace Rewards member to receive weekly emails with sales. I know I would stop by more often if I knew they had bird seed or potting soil on sale. read more

I stopped in today trying to find parts to repair a piece of luggage. I had a general idea of how to fix it, but I found myself lost and fumbling through hardware parts. Nate, a member of the staff, came up and asked if I needed help. I explained what I was trying do and he quickly pointed out that I had the wrong parts and he gathered all the correct parts for me. He was a lifesaver! I am very grateful for his kindness and help. And I was grateful most of all to him for NOT treating me like an idiot who didn't know what I was doing (which I was...). read more

The worst ace location !!!!!!! Horrible customer service. Employees always have an attitude and very slow to help. I have been privy to experiencing and witnessing the NASTIEST customer service at this location. The ACE in old town Takoma is much better with more friendly and knowledgeable staff. My husband and myself have been followed around this store numerous times and or rushed to buy. This, paired with rude staff unwilling to help and/or even crack a smile is not a good image. If you're gonna follow black people around your store at least be of assistance and provide customer service. It's honestly disgusting !!!!!!!! Also plants are not well kept as they are either over watered, dried and/or unpruned. Plants that require significant sunlight are kept far from a window whilst constantly being over water leading to root rot plants being purchased. At least change the layout of your store so plants can get Adequate sunlight and nutrients. OVERALL .. very poor customer service and a poor representation of the ACE Hardware franchise. Will be using my ACE membership elsewhere. read more

I come here frequently for things for my houseplants. It seems as though this location lacks the bare necessities for houseplants (like perlite... they never have it). Also, they tend to have cool varieties of houseplants, but every time I walk in, they're watering ALL of the plants. A lot of the plants seem to be suffering from overwatering... not all plants should be watered daily. I actually can't think of ONE that should. read more

Don't bother ordering online for pickup. Order around 4pm, arrived at the store at 7pm and order was still not ready for pick up. Ended up getting it myself‍ They store was empty and the manager has the nerve to tell me they was busy today! Well excuse me lady, three customers in a store doesn't equal busy to me plus I'm a paying customer so i don't care about how busy you are, have my order ready as you promised. read more

So, today I needed an sink hole cover for a sink in the shop and slipped over to the Ace Hardware in Silver Spring, MD!! The place seemed deserted but, I spotted an elderly gentleman just as another customer did and presented an inquiry! She was about my age and white, as he was! I waited patiently as she posed several questions and he gazed back at me twice! I naturally perceived that as his acknowledgment of my very obvious presence! Well, after answering her questions he darted off towards the rear of the store!‍ Me being me, I opted to search the store for someone/anyone else that might be able to assist me! To my dismay "JIM" was seemingly the only associate on the floor! Forced to interact with him for help this bastard was beyond condescending as I asked him for a simple sink hole cover!! I described its purpose as well as its name to him twice!! He seemed clueless as he made it clear to me that this wasn't his forte! Which he actually could have spared me!! Having A Rough Day Jim? Not impressed with the new ownership. I was in the store three weeks ago to pick up an online order. The ACE staff person was decidedly unhelpful, brushing off my question about what happened to the second half of my order and hurriedly told me to wait for an email. A week later, no email, so I called to see if by chance it'd come in, and again was told to just wait for an email from ACE. So I waited another week, and today, 3 weeks after I placed my order, I called and was told that, 'Oh, it's been cancelled'. No one had notified me, and it turns out they cancelled it three days after I ordered it online. The ACE staff people I've dealt with have been dismissive and close to rude. I had ordered on line for a curb side pickup. I did not realize this was no longer a Strosnider location (it shows!) I only ordered from this store because the Kensington store was out of stock on the items I wanted. This is the first (and the last) time I will be shopping at this store. No designated area for curb side pickup. The guy who brought my order out was rude, yelled at me, insisted on a signature (why am I doing curb side pickup?) I was prepared to show ID. I had already paid, obviously. Ultimately a more civil associate came out and explained what she needed (but not why I had to sign). Had her slip the paper through the window, signed and return. What a mess! I do not know what the employees are going through, but the difference in customer service and attitude is startling. Even more so, the lack of civility is very off-putting. I recommend going to the Strosnider stores. I have used curb side pickup at the Kensington store. Easy, showed my id through the window. Truly contact free pickup.
