Overall, I have had pretty good experiences at Stronsniders Hardware. The staff is very helpful, the layout of the store is pretty straightforward and easy to follow, and the store has a decent inventory. During all of my visits, I was able to find what I was looking for or something very similar to the items that I needed. In general, I think the prices are pretty similar or a bit lower compared to those in other places. Unfortunately, parking is a bit of a mess, primarily because two of the three entrances for vehicles are located right next to two VERY busy intersections. For one entrance/exit, it's virtually impossible to make a left turn leaving the shopping center, and you can make only right turns for another exit. However, I will not necessarily fault Strosniders for this because these horrible parking situations seem to be pretty standard in this area. It's as if developers throw a million and three stores in a shopping complex without any regard to the parking situation or traffic patterns. I love this store! It's my go-to store for bird seed, and incidentals such as soap needed for my homemade laundry detergent, or my replacement heads for my reusable bottle cleaner. They are part of the ACE Hardware family, so you can get their ACE card to save money and receive coupons. The parking lot can get a bit congested, even the lot behind them where there are about 5-6 more shops. Today was especially challenging because they were holding their annual customer appreciation day from 10-2. They had sales, merchants, cookies and popcorn, and a goody bag giveaway! Plus, with your ACE card you got 20% off non-sale items. I always come in this time of year to buy my wild birds, suet cakes for the winter. Also, they sell locally produced (Gaithersburg) My Dad's Chips. Barbecue is my favorite, but the original is great too. The employees are superb. The parking lot is C H A O T I C. Right off a busy intersection and narrows parking spots. Some items are priced comparably to Home Depot and Lowe's whereas other items are painfully marked up and joke-worthy. The aisle employees are really friendly, even if obnoxiously so. You really can't go shopping here without someone interfering every 5 seconds to ask if they can help you. I guess the alternative is no one being around to help, which is a lot worse but it's like they think you're going to steal or dawdle in their stores for longer than you need to. I bought a two pack of the wasp and hornet killer, which is cheaper at Home Depot so I asked the cashier if they price-match. That was the moment her attitude began and acted like I was asking for something for free. It was just a question. She also hassled me when I opened a coupon on the Ace app, where it said to Add to Apple Wallet. Then she said in a rude tone, "You never add to wallet." Ma'am, that's what the app said. And it scanned just fine from the Apple Wallet so I don't know what her issue was. I also picked up an order that I placed online. The experience was needlessly difficult. read more

I have a 1890s house - there are all sorts of odd questions I have and so far, they have had all the answers. I love this store and think the customer service is great. Typically great service as this is my favorite neighborhood hardware store, however one of my most recent visits left me quite frustrated. I recently visited for assistance processing a Big Green Egg warranty and was 'helped' by Ian (one of the store managers). We discussed the BGE warranty changes and he requested that I send everything to him via email for authorized dealer contact with the company. I forwarded him everything on 30 Apr and waited for him to contact me with a status. A couple of weeks passed and I sent a f/u email with no response. I visited the store twice and left msgs and he did not return any of them. Incredibly poor customer service, while setting a bad example for other employees as a store manager. After waiting a month, I contacted BGE directly and was told that no record existed of anyone placing a claim or contacting them about my grill. Given the circumstances, BGE expedited the processing of a claim for me and I had approval within 24 hours (even offered to ship directly to me overnight). On the other hand, I met Tripp (another store manager) during my next visit to pick up my BGE part and he was amazing! He went above and beyond to find the part in the store (at first he was told they didn't have it and it needed to be ordered). He immediately called me to let me know he found one and it was ready for pickup. As a nice touch, he had it at the front counter waiting for me when I arrived. This is the level of service that I have grown accustomed to receiving at this location. Always a friendly greeting with most employees willingly assisting when needed. PROS * Unlike just about every hardware store I've been to in the last 6 years, I can ask somebody a vague/weird question and usually get something like an answer. That's been great. * Solid customer service. I've had better luck with the old guys but a few other staff members have been surprisingly knowledgeable. * Generally good basic small hardware store options. CONS * Price is higher than you'll find online or home depot. * My mailbox gets choked with coupons that I never use and really wish they'd stop sending. I never think to bring it, I don't buy enough stuff to execute on the deal, or it expires before I get to the location. * They lean hard on the grilling stuff, which I'm guessing is profitable because what has to be at the bottom of my list of things to purchase at a local hardware store, but it seems to cover some 10% of the store space. SUGGESTIONS * There's a guy who's English isn't very good but he's definitely the best person to talk to for just about anything I come in for. So work through the language barrier because he's amazing. * If you need to buy something expensive, do some research separately and then see if they have it in stock for a reasonable price. read more

For many years, I drove past the store but rarely went there for my home needs. After a very disappointing and frustrating experience at another hardware store and an urgent need to find a couple of items for an ongoing plumbing project, I went to this store and I now will make this store my go to hardware store. Not only is it conveniently located from my home, the employees were very present and incredibly helpful. My experience here (3 over a course of 2 days) was the best. The staff who helped me exemplified the best of customer service. I can't say enough. I under appreciated this store for so long but after this week, I am the biggest fan. I went to the store intending to buy a $600 gas grill. Their website advertises free delivery and setup. However, , because I am 7 miles outside their free delivery zone (3 1/2 miles) they wanted $75. I offered $50, but the manager refused the offer. Obviously they are not interested in keeping a longtime customer. I called another Aces Hardware store in Burtonstville, Md (same distance away) and they said no problem for free delivery and setup. Go figure. The manager who gave me this information came across like a robot repeating party line and not giving consideration to what is important to the Strosniders company future business. Just opened on January 24, 2018. The store is very clean, bright and very friendly staff. They have key station, paint station, and various hardware supplies. No garden as of yet, but it has an outdoor specifically for it. Come by... Parking is available in front and behind the shopping center. I walked around for half an hour trying to find someone to cut a 3ft piece of decorative chain. I got terse statements that "Im the only one in this department and I have 4 ahead of you. If He doesn't like to work there than go someplace else. When I asked a wondering manager for help he gave a stock answer of "We're busy". I placed my other purchase on the nearest counter and left. If they can't help customers, Why are they there? Why do you answer on yelp with stock bs answers. I quietly waited to be helped, only to see others come in, get greeted by name and get prompt service. Blaming poor service on a National pandemic is pretty low. My knee is bad and I walk with a cane, I make no excuses nor demands to go first. My money will be spent elsewhere for the most part. read more

Do not cut keys here!!!! We got terribly cut keys that completely ruined the inside of our lock, and now have to purchase a brand new door lock and hire someone to come re-drill our door because the original lock we had is now out of stock. A simple key cutting at this location has resulted in an $150+ expense and massive headache for us. read more

In the past I have had these cut at the big box stores, sometimes for $4, once for free (at Home Depot, I think). No programming- just a simple 2-sided cut. This ACE is fantastic. Even under the stress of the pandemic, they are courteous and helpful. Curb side pickup is FANTASTIC (contact free). I always find the store to be well stocked, clean, and staff by people who know their stuff. I made the mistake of using curb side pickup in Silver Spring at the ACE there - not knowing it was no longer a Strosnider's store. What a mess that was. Please support this locally owned store. So it is a few pennies more than a big box store - it also keeps more money in the community and they treat their employees so much better. They are still in the "soft opening" stage. The Grand Opening is scheduled for March 24. They are still stocking but had plenty of fun, interesting, useful items to check out. There is a great kitchen section with things I don't usually see like spice pockets, doilies, and tons of kitchen gadgets. They have household cleaners, grills, paints, keys, filters, and a bunch of aisles I didn't even investigate. The staff was friendly and helpful. I will only ever go to this hardware store. On two different occasions they provided outstanding service. I wish I could remember the name of the gentleman who helped me find and cut a piece of tubing that made it possible for me to repair a very expensive Italian glass and wood table that even the manufacturer would not/could not help me with. That was mind-blowing. The next occasion is when I ordered a table and it was taking so long to get it delivered. Finally, they gave me the display table because it just looked like it was never going to arrive. The whole time I kept calling and checking, they took personal care and were always kind and responsive: Rabia, Jim and Chuck were right on it. Scott and Wayne delivered the table. They called ahead, the move in was flawless and they even offered to clean the pollen off the table. Professional, friendly and so helpful. I wish every business would learn from this store. I am so happy to have a Strosniders in Kensington, having lived in Silver Spring before and frequenting the one there. However, not one server asked me if I needed assistance, leaving me to search the entire store myself. Also, a black man came in and interrupted my check-out. The black cashier stopped what she was doing for me to chat with him and provide him with a "Open House" brochure, which she had not offered to me, so I grabbed one myself. I've recently stopped in and had a great experience. Their merch is definitely different than your HD or Lowe's. I found many useful items and some hard to find parts for an older gas grill. The staff were busy but no less than 5 staff members offered assistance - not in an annoying way either. A few times I utilized their assistance, and a few times I didn't need to.
