What a great "old-fashioned" hardware store, but in all the good ways. They may have less stock in-store of each item than Home Depot or Lowes, but that doesn't mean this Strosnider's location doesn't have as much variety, just not as many of each item. Strosnider's professionals here are also highly knowledgeable, creatively solution-oriented, and customer-service driven. When I wanted to buy a pipe from Lowes, they told me that Lowes didn't cut pipes if I purchased them at Lowes and I'd have to cut it myself to fit it in my wagon. Strosnider's was much more customer supportive. Steve and Bryce were exceptionally creative and helpful. Please note these comments do not necessarily apply to all locations of Home Depot, Lowes, and Strosnider's. This Kensington location of Strosnider's had much more to offer than the Potomac and Bethesda locations (and Silver Spring location is no more) in my experience in December 2021. read more

Always helpful always courteous to customers, they have a large selection of most things you'll need and if youre not sure you can always call first! A little on the pricey side BUT can't beat the location for this area its the qickest place to get home/garden/car care or maint items in one place. read more

This review starts off like most Yelp! reviews: an experience that could have gone better. It started when I dropped off three chainsaw chains to be sharpened, along with a lawn mower blade. When I dropped them off, I was told the chains would be about 2-3 weeks because they sharpen them at their Bethesda location. The mower blade is sharpened in-house, so the turn around time was about a day. After about 3 weeks, I called to follow-up. Was told they'd look into it and call me back. Couple days past, called again. Told they'd be in later that day. Drove over, no luck. Would be in next day and I'd get a call. Two days pass, I call and they're in, though no one called. Not a great experience thus far. When I went in to pick them up, no charge. I think this showed the experience didn't live up to either of our expectations and this was their expression of an apology apart from the verbal one I received. I doubt many businesses care enough about their customers to 1) make the gesture in the first place, or 2) do so without the customer having to throw a fit or write a negative Yelp! review. Poor service / shopping experiences are unavoidable for any business - sometimes things don't go as planned - but I'm impressed Strosniders recognizes this and takes steps to make it right. read more

I love this store. An example of what well trained employees who know what they are doing can mean in retail. So different from the old Hardware City. I do not think it is appreciably more expensive than HD but if it were I think the community must still support this place. Steve is awesome. read more

Wow! The chain broke off of our old chainsaw, and we took it to Strosniders in Kensington, a fairly new hardware store in the area. The store manager named Jonathan came ot the front desk and not only put the chain back on the chainsaw, but he power-cleaned it, all this for free. I could not believe it. He answered some questions for me about a new Weber grill and also helped us choose a brand-new hedge clipper, giving us the pros and cons of gas, electric, and battery operated. Strosniders in Kensington is the only hardware store I will ever go to. Bye-bye, Home Depot, Lowes, and all the others. There's a new sheriff in town, and that's Strosniders in Kensington. The selection/price at Strosniders is excellent, but what's really special about the retail store is the outstanding, knowledgeable staff whose commitment to customer service is demonstrated in every visit - most recently by DaShaye (paint department) and the manager, Jonathan! Strosniders opened at this location earlier this year. I have been to the store several times and always been able to find exactly what I want. The store not only has the usual Hardware items, but it has a good collection of housewares such as plates, flatware and other kitchen needs. The staff is extremely helpful. Just ask and they take you to the item. If you sign up for their Ace Rewards program you can save even more with coupons and such. All in all a great shopping experience. And a lot more than just a hardware store. I haven't been to Home Depot since they opened! And that's a very good thing! read more

Kensington location - outstanding service (almost like an Andy Griffith Mayberry store)! Did you know they can repair lamps, too? The switch on my imported porcelain lamp did not work and I could not find any lamp repair shops. On a hunch, I sent an email to Bill Hart, the owner, because I saw that he had been pretty responsive to other reviewers' comments, asking if they could rewire it. He asked me to bring it in and take it to their Helpful Hub and ask for Mike, Kyle or Ken. Mike looked at it and found a similar switch. He said normally he would write a ticket for the repair, estimate the cost and keep the lamp for a day or two to find the problem. He decided to unscrew the back plate while I was there and immediately found the problem - the copper wiring was loose. He said that, rather than have me come back he would rethread it immediately and did so. I was really impressed by his expertise - in fact, while tending to the switch about seven customers/store personnel would come by and ask him questions and he helped every one of them. When I asked what I owed him he said "Nothing. Come back and see us soon." Thanks for being so gracious, Mike! I found similar great service from Steve and every other store staff member I encountered. When checking out I asked if Bill Hart was in the store so I could thank him for replying to my emails and tell him what a superb job Mike did and how helpful, professional and courteous everyone was. Bill came by to speak to me. He saw I had some bulky purchases and said he would help carry them out but he had hurt his right arm. He said his left arm still worked, though, and carried my purchases to my car himself, even though a kind cashier offered to do so. I am so glad Strosnider's is back in our community, and I highly recommend the store. (There are several discount coupons available online which makes the purchases very reasonable.) read more

Since this store opened I have tried to support it as a local business, even though the prices often were much higher than what I might pay at a big box store. Over the last several months I spent close to $3,000 in purchases- one single shopping trip of a purchase of plants cost me over $600.00! But I always found the personnel to be friendly and helpful. Until yesterday when I bought a grill as a present for my daughter. I live 1.8 miles away from this store, spent over $300.00 in the purchase of the grill, a table and various grilling supplies, and yet when I called the store this morning to inquire if they could deliver it the store would not waive a delivery fee of $25.00. I pointed out that I am a senior citizen, that I had spent a lot of money in this store, and yet was really disappointed to find out that in this instance customer service was REALLY LACKING. I had called because I was concerned about my arthritis and did not know if I would be able to safely get the grill out of my car once I got home, but was informed that the delivery charge would not be waived. When I came to pick up the grill this afternoon, it would not fit into my car, scratching the upholstery and then when I inquired again if it could be delivered without charge, pointing out that I live just over a mile and a half away, I was told that the fee could be reduced to $15.00 but there would be no waiver of the charge! I am really disappointed in this cavalier attitude, and will not be coming back to support this store. read more

Love this place! The most helpful and happy staff you'll find at a hardware store, beats the bigger places for sure. Ask a question, and you'll be taken to exactly what you need. Overall a great place. Very helpful employees, although you pay for their help with higher prices. I have one beef, however. Do not go here (or to the Silver Spring store for that matter) to have keys made or copied. 9 out of 10 times the copies simply do not work. On one occasion, I brought back a dysfunctional copy five or six times, never to have it work. At that point I simply gave up since it was not worth my time to keep returning -- even though it meant losing the money I spent on the copy. I recommend that you go to a professional locksmith for your key needs. read more

This store has anything you could conceivably need right in Kensington. I needed help and a few items (totaling less than $2) for a repair. I was blown away by the knowledge, courtesy and persistence of the staff. As well as by the universal inventory. What a great asset for the neighborhood! read more

We went there to get furnace filters. Prices were marked on the shelves themself, although my husband found one that he wanted that was in the wrong place. He looked at other shelves and could not find where that one had come from to get the price. He asked an employee the price, and the fellow looked at him like he was from Mars. He was told that they have no way to check prices; and that we would have to go upfront to the checkout to get a price. We were quite irritated to have to wait in a long line, just to get a price. While we were waiting, I saw a fellow who looked like a manager. I asked him if any of the employees were able to do price checks on the floor. He apologized, but said no. NOT a user friendly store. WHY do they have floor employees? We encountered one gal, who acted put out that she had to tell us where the filters were, and the fellow, who acted like we were from Mars seemed surprised that we didn't know they couldn't do price checks. To have to go through checkout just to get a price?? The lines are set up like MVA and customers are herded like cattle into one line with a long wait. To call this a hardware store is inaccurate. I would characterize this as a cutsy, little bit of everything store, with some hardware. A "Light" Hardware store. Hardware City was so much better, where the employees could actually help you throughout the store and had some real Hardware, as well as experience. read more

Let me express first this store has provided me the best customer service of any establishment I've ever gone to before. I had to right this long review so bare with me. It almost scared how attentive this store was in helping me just buy a light bulb. When I walked in the door, there was a service rep that asked me what they could help me with? He then points me to the exact isle, walkie talkie's another specialist for that isle. Takes one look at my light bulb, and hands me its replacement. Lowes, Home Depot, it probably would of taken me 15mins to find the isle, another 15 to find someone for help, another 15 for that person to call the specialist over, and god help you if they knew what they were talking about either way. This whole process at this Ace took me 3 minutes from entering, paying, and exiting, CUSTOMER SERVICE OVERLOAD! Also, you'd think it being a smaller store they'll lack selection, nope.
