I have a leak under my sink and had on my list to go to a different store and then realized Strosniders is around the corner. I went in with a picture and immediately a gentleman saw me and asked me if I needed help and I showed him the picture and we spent a few minutes discussing the issue and he could not have been more helpful in terms of telling me what I could use to reconcile the issue immediately and what I should do for a long-term fix. For any home improvement projects I don't think I will ever go anywhere again. The best of the best. read more

This store is a gem. Yes, the prices may be higher than big box stores, but you're paying for convenience and oftentimes, outstanding service. There have been so many times I've gone and someone friendly will stick their head around the corner asking if I need something. Needed really unusual set of metric screws, nuts, bolts etc for a rollator. Took a functional set along to match up. Partner had experience with Silver Spring location. "If nobody else has it, they will. And they will work hard to get it right." Went to three other (chain) hardware stores closer by first. Failure all around. Ok, ready to drive from Falls Church to try out Potomac store. Very helpful staff. Inventory of screws, etc was seriously impressive -- considerably more than any of the chain stores. Staff explained where the problems were, spent considerable time getting all the pieces together, wrote it all up nicely. Good to go. BONUS: checked out the store. Miele vacuum cleaner inventory! And prices so much better than elsewhere. (Who knew?) Picked up a few boxes of vacuum cleaner bags also. (Added benefit.) Got home and found out that the screws were 1/4 inch too short?! (Huh???) How? Took the correct screw along. All the other parameters were correct. But the obvious one was not? And a few other issues, too.) Ok. Drove back next day. Exchanged items. (If you are counting, this is now the fifth trip to a hardware store, the second to this one.) Have not yet tried to install into rollator. Waiting for partner on weekend. Even so, would recommend this store. They had everything, far beyond the chain stores. Staff were helpful, friendly, avlbl, put forth effort to take care of situation. The convenience is amazing. Whenever I need something, all I have to do is walk in. They have everything and the prices are generally very fair. The managers, Jack and Shawn, are particularly good at their jobs. Friendly, knowledgeable, energetic, and supportive, as well as very quick at helping out. I build a lot of off-the-wall projects, so it is particularly handy to have a wide variety of hardware, paints, electrical, plumbing and such. So I ask a lot of "how might you do this project?", And I always get thoughtful, helpful ideas and suggestions that turn out to be exactly right. read more

This place is great in many ways. There is one total (_*_) with a leftover hippy from the sixties vibe who has been rude and unfriendly a couple times. He sits up front. The rest of the personnel know what they have and where it is. And are a huge help. Prices are a tad "Potomacky" but it's close to my home there and all in all I can take the one jerk as the rest of the staff make up for him. read more

I would give them ten stars if I could. The service in this place is just BEYOND! You simply don't get service like this any more - anywhere. The table for my BGE smoker/grill was falling apart after years of good service. One day it seemed fine, the next day we noticed it was buckling and cracking under the weight of the Egg. We clearly needed a new table asap but were concerned with the whole supply chain problems that we would have to wait for months to get a new table and we were not sure the old table would hold out over the winter. The other problem is that, well, we aren't as young as we were and manhandling the Egg out of the old table and getting it into a new one safely was going to be a big challenge for us. The good folks at Strosniders not only found us a table that was "in stock", but they delivered it, took apart our Egg, replaced the bands, and installed the Egg safely into the new table. I bought quite expensive LED Christmas lights here less than a month ago and already they are not working. I admit I do not have a receipt (they were a gift for my mother in law who did not keep the receipt). The store says they do not believe I bought the lights there and the staff and manager were quite rude. I specifically went to a neighborhood small business to get better customer service than this. Even if they will not replace/refund the lights, they could at least be nicer about it! If your interest is in shopping local for better customer service than at Home Depot, this is NOT the place. I could have paid less for the same lights at Home Depot and gotten the same rude attitude, so I regret buying from this store. read more

What rude employees ! As I walked in, I heard a male staff member loudly mocking and berating a female customer for requesting off-white paint. "You realize, don't you, that there are more than 15 different off-white paints. You can't just come in and ask for off-white paint. ". I asked another staff member if they carried fire blankets and he sneered at me "Ma-am, we don't carry blankets.". He admitted he didn't know what a fire blanket even is. First off,- the prices are ridiculous. The Lutron light switch I paid $30 for at Home Depot was $70 at Strosniders!!! Not only do they mark everything up, but have you ever tried returning something at one of their stores?? Heaven help you if you've opened the package! They give you the 3rd degree (even with the receipt), call in a manager and generally imply that they don't like ur kind 'round here!!! Both the Potomac & the Bethesda store employees seem to have had the same schooling: 1) don't allow ANY returns w/o a receipt (doesn't matter if the NAME of their store is on the package!) 2) if a customer comes in the store: HIDE! 3) if you can't hide,- talk to another customer at GREAT length so that you'll get tired of waiting and walk away! 4) if asked directly where anything is in the store,- wave vaguely toward the back of the (empty) store and say "you need to ask someone else"! get my drift?? read more

The only reason i drop this place a star is because of the high prices. But its Potomac, what did you expect? This place has been around forever and so have most of the people who work there. The ones with the red vests know there stuff. You can ask them anything about hardware etc. and they'll know what to do. Strosniders is right down the street from my house, making it my go-to hardware store. If their prices were a little more in line with Lowe's in the Kentlands, I would have definitely given it a 5 star rating. This establishment has been a part of the Potomac Village for as long as I can remember and it has always had everything I was looking for. If I couldn't find something, or even if I looked a little lost and confused, their friendly and knowledgeable staff were always ready to help. They have even taken the time to explain proper uses and proper installation techniques and even when I have called on the phone with a question, have been more than amenable to help and check on things for me. I definitely recommend Strosniders to anyone in Potomac who is looking for a convenient, neighborhood spot to go for any home hardware need. read more

Great and convenient hardware store in the heart of Potomac, MD. The have almost everything.

The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. And, unlike Home Depot or Lowes, they have enough staff that you don't have to go searching for someone. They'll show you various solutions for tackling a particular problem. Yes, it's somewhat more expensive than a mega-store, but when Home Depot has put all the neighborhood hardware stores out of business, good luck getting your questions answered. Last spring I bought an Ace Hardware shed from Strosniders! We had to take the pieces out of the box in order to get everything in my minivan and they were soooooooo helpful and congenial!!! Today I needed some special length bolts to mount an antique door knocker and they spent a long time helping me figure it out and then cutting to bolts. They charged so little for all that service, it was practically free! And they are such a congenial group of people!!! I live in Rockville, but it is definitely worth the drive!!! read more

Very convenient location and it seems like they always have everything you want, which is very surprising for the small size of the store. Prices are abit more expensive but it's worth not driving to home depot and get lost on the isles. My husband and I went here looking for some screws to fix the back deck. There were two young men walking around, and when my husband asked where to find the screws they were both very rude and didn't help. Their names were Alden and Max. You get what you pay for at Potomac's Strosniders. Just a couple of hours ago I needed a new Stihl lopper as my gave up the ghost. Unbeknownst to me (bought the lopper two years ago), the managers Shayne and Jack located the Stihl loppers in another row and when I showed them my picture taken after the ruination of it this morning, they told me it was covered under the warranty and handed me a new one without charge. You will never see Stihl (made in the USA) at the big box hardware stores...only at Strosnider in Potomac, MD. The staff was so honest and helpful. For any job of even small complexity, you can't go far wrong at Strosniders. Blurt out your question to the first staffer you see and you'll be taken directly to the item or service that you need, or be told promptly that they don't have it. Maybe one in four times you'll be sent off to find another staffer in a different department, but typically everyone knows most of everything. Yes, the big chains will have lower prices. But you'll lose a lot of the cost advantage in time lost searching for a staff member who knows anything, and in fumbling through empty and mislabeled parts boxes. Strosniders seems to have an inventory system that keeps product on the shelves. I would estimate roughly that doing the same task at Strosniders in 10 minutes would take an hour at the big chains. Maybe if you're buying 100 bags of fertilizer the price saving is worth it, but for any one off job the time saving at Strosnider's in just locating the part is worth it. And for complicated babies like what washer does my faucet need, or battery for my cellphone, or light bulb for my odd flashlight, the time advantage is even greater. When I lived in DC I used to drive to Strosniders in Bethesda when I had a complicated problem. Later I patronized the Strosnider's store in Silver Spring. Now I live in Potomac -- same business model. For those of you who remember how hardware stores used to be 50 years ago, Strosniders is a welcome breath of the past.
