What DOESN'T Logan's sell? As a first-timer, I browsed the aisles and was amazed at the selection. It also made me smile that each customer was greeted with a kind "hello" from the cashiers in the front. They had a major sale going on before the holiday and I could hear the cashiers reminding customers constantly of the discounts and helping them make decisions based on the sale. I called ahead as I was in need of a kid sized rake. Of course they had it and put it on hold for me as I made my way across the city to pick it up. I'm usually an Amazon Prime gal but needed it that day. On the phone they asked me if I was looking for a garden rake or leaf rake...really? I'm surprised they had both for kids! I don't live close to Logan's but I'm frequently nearby. I'll be sure to patronize this lovely store again. read more

Best hardware store in the neighborhood! The staff are always very helpful. When you first walk in, the store looks small but there is a second floor! They have everything you could need from balloons to keys to rolling pins to plants! Prices are sometimes even better than Amazon! This is my go-to place for party supplies and especially those big foil balloons shaped like numbers. I ordered some simple items that your website stated there were more than twice what I needed in stock. The order was cancelled the next morning because they actually had none on hand. Now I get to rearrange my day to go to the further away place that I would have went to yesterday when I had time if someone had done inventory and not told me this was on hand. But you know what? I bought a plant that developed black leaves after a week, and was spreading. These guys were so very accommodating and understanding to replace the plant, even though they technically cannot refund live plants. VERY different to how I was treated in the Adams Morgan location, where I originally bought the plant. You can read my review there - I was so pissed. I was about to buy a new grill from Logan hardware this Sunday, March 10th, 2019. Then my friends had an incident with 2 rude staff making fun of him when he asked where the Bathroom was located, followed by another staff member threatening to beat up my Friend. Thank goodness I didn't complete my purchase. I'm really disappointed with how Tim the manager who was present during this situation handled it. It is never acceptable to make fun of customers then threaten them. The store owner has not reached out to anyone in my group directly shows the lack of care for customers. I've canceled my ACE Rewards membership over this incident. I will no longer shop at Logan Hardware or any other ACE Hardware. read more

Came here to make copies of office keys and honestly I'll never come back here again. It's a 3 minuet walk from my office (12th and U) but i'd rather just walk to the ACE Hardware in Adams Morgan. Nasty staff. I'm surprised because the other reviews aren't even that bad. Nonetheless, the woman who made the keys was fast and pleasant when I first approached- but she had an attitude the whole time making the keys like I inconvenienced her.. i didn't like how she stuck her hand out with the keys in a bag while I was looking down to write something and HER colleague had to get my attention for me to look up. Why not just get my attention yourself? Womp. They are stocked with really nice things, though and they have foil balloons for a pretty nice price. read more

I'm hardly handy, so I could probably count the number of times I've had to go to a hardware store potentially on one hand. But my needs were simple: a small stepladder and measuring tape. Surely, I would have little hassle tracking those things down. I had literally no expectations prior to dropping by, so I was surprised to find two floors, both pretty deep, lined with everything you could need for home improvement. My eyes scattered just about everywhere when I walked in, glancing over about 70% of their inventory that was foreign to me. Luckily, someone was available to help direct me to the right aisle immediately and even helped me pick out the cheapest step ladder for my needs. She even made sure I was aware that there were more colors to choose from elsewhere. Without her help, I probably would have just bought the first one I saw and be out, so I was really appreciative of her taking her time (and not my money!) Oh and they have a cooler in the front with bottled root beer. So course I had to buy one. So that's that. I walked out with a cold brew, my stepladder and some measuring tape. You know what I did after that? I did work, son! read more

We visited the shop specifically for plants. It's hard to find a neighborhood store with a decent selection. Logan's didn't disappoint! For a small location, I think they make the most of their space. In particular, the shop had a nice selection of pet-friendly plants. Most garden plants are toxic to dogs and cats, but flowers like zinnias, begonias, and most all edible herbs, are not. Logan's offered multiple four-legged-friendly options, like lemon grass, catmint, begonias of all sorts, as well as lots of zinnias in a variety of colors, and a large selection of herbs in excellent condition. You do have to go upstairs to find their plants, and then out onto the deck. There's an elevator, if needed, but the spaces are small and the corners are tight. I found the store's staff was very helpful and cheerful. Since they recently moved to a new location, they're still building a full stock, but the place will eventually be a well-rounded store with a large pet section, a full range of household items, including everything from natural cleaning products to kitchen items, like can openers, servings spoons, and mason jars. You name it, and they just might carry it! Snacks and natural sodas? They have those too! I'll definitely visit again, even outside of planting season! It's easy to support a small local business that's well-staffed with knowledgeable, friendly people in a clean, well-stocked environment. read more

I stopped in here with a friend because she needed to pick an item up and I was impressed with how much assistance we were offered. It wasn't pushy, but truly helpful. We probably could have found the item on our own, but we took the staff up on their offer of assistance and they helped us quickly locate the item and get it down because it was on an upper shelf. The items the hardware store had were truly tailored to the neighborhood and they stocked things such as laundry detergent that I had never seen in a hardware store before. Logan Hardware is the exact opposite of Home Depot. For one, there are more staff on duty than customers in the store so getting help is a breeze. Plus, they're very friendly. So friendly in fact that whenever I walk by the store, my dog drags me inside because he knows he'll get tons of petting and attention (and maybe a treat...). They let you return just about anything even if opened, which is awesome especially if you're a DIYer and don't know exactly what you're doing, like me. Sure, the supply is a small fraction of what you'd get at HD or Lowes and maybe a tad bit more expense (nothing on 14th St is cheaper), but the customer service makes up the difference. read more

Logan Hardware is a local franchise of Ace Hardware, which I love. All Ace stores that I've been to are true local stores, loyal to their communities, and friendly. In summer, there seems to be slightly more stock in outside plants like herbs, veggies, and landscaping flowers, but there's a very respectable stock of bromeliads, ferns, and houseplants too. They are all much more reasonably priced than nearby Little Leaf -- the two plants I wanted from Little Leaf cost the same as six plants, three pots and some acrylic paints at Logan. The customer service is unparalleled in the gardening department. The associates have obvious expertise in plant selection and care, and I've taken advantage of it on multiple occasions. These guys are passionate about plants and have even told me inside tips they've learned from gardening conventions. That's dedication! Greg is especially awesome at his job and has answered dozens of questions for me. On top of the great service, prices, and supporting local business, I always feel good about leaving Logan Hardware because it's dog friendly. That's right, all of the above, plus a good chance at petting a cute dog or two. I witnessed the cutest interaction earlier when I saw an employee greet a little girl and her dog, each by name. They have an astonishing selection which it tailored to the needs of the neighborhood. I see a few posts complain that their prices are a bit higher than the big box stores--and you get what you pay for. They have super helpful staff all over to help you find anything you need (the opposite of Home Depot). You'll find all sorts of oddball things you need for your condo here that you won't find at Home Depot--and Logan is right here, not a five mile drive. If you need 20 sheets of drywall and 50 2x4s, then you head to Lowes. read more

Service is a gamble depending on who is working, but is generally alright - it is a hardware store after all. Not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive considering its central convenience-based location. If you're further out, go get what you need at a Home Depot or Ace as you can find better deals elsewhere or for larger more extensive purchases, but for copying a key or something small, this store should serve you just fine. read more

Words that describe this place: dysfunctional and useful. I don't know if it's because it's locally owned but this store teeters between really friendly to the customer and really bizarre uncomfortable interpersonal behavior between the employees (in front of the customer). Weird crap like belittling and making fun of each other. As far as I could tell it's never jokey or friendly, and it's not been a one-time experience. On the other hand, you're always greeted when you step into the store. Someone is always willing to help you find something or walkey-talkey the upstairs floor so they know you're coming looking for a specific item. The exceptions are: a particular employee has been pretty rude to me several times (until called out, and they've been overly nice the past couple of times I've been in); and, one time the store had gotten a really loud monkey toy in stock and I guess the novelty of it was too much for the employees to handle--unbearable on my end. Why useful? If Ace wasn't around, I'd basically have to schlep myself to home depot all the way in NE, or wait two days for Amazon (ugh) to deliver something. It's a seriously convenient one-stop shop for soda stream refills, air filters, plants, mason jars, new keys, screws/nails, whatevs. P.S. FWIW: my fiance thinks this joint is a 5/5. read more

I do believe they hire people for this store based on kindness, friendliness and IQ. They're intelligent, helpful, and just plain fun to engage with, which is something of a rarity these days! This may just be my favorite store in the neighborhood, to be honest. It's an old-school hardware store that sells everything from nuts and bolts to Weber grills to eco-friendly hand soaps and even shower curtains. They cut keys, offer advice and products for pest control and even hand out free balloons to kids. I love it. read more

This place is awesome! I am a tinkerer at heart and these stores are a dying breed for sure. Nowadays you always have to buy things online without actually getting to see them in person. My favorite section of these stores is the nuts and fasteners section. They have TONS of hardware at your disposal for home projects of general repairs. Staff are super friendly, they helped me find exactly what I was looking for. This place has 2 floors so it has a huge selection.
