I needed to purchase electrical receptacle plates in metal and the correct off-white color. They have half of an aisle dedicated to recepticles, switches and their plates that are used in houses. I wanted to come here now instead of dealing with a crowd full of Sunday DYIers. An employee who was stocking products in the electrical department helped me locate the exact type of receptacle plates that I needed. Update 5/21 - Can you believe that Home Depot several weeks ago called and said that they could not hold the doors at their store anymore and would need to deliver them where they would be installed -I gave the employee a date when the doors could be delivered - and she said that she would need to confirm and would get back with us as to whether the doors could be delivered. She never got back to us - and the doors were delivered unexpectedly and just sat outside of the house - where anyone could steal them or damage them and the elements can get to them. I've called several times to Home Depot to inquire about this and see if the doors could be taken back and stored until installation. I've spoken to several managers who claimed that they would look into it- at least one admitted that the delivery was improper - as the installers were not even informed that the doors had been delivered and were no longer at the store and Home Depot was only supposed to deliver the doors when someone was at the location and someone was there to receive them. Yet the manager has not even gotten back to me with a final resolution and the doors are still sitting outside of the location, unsecured where anyone can damage them or steal them. It's also hard to get to talk to a manager. The service is so bad. Home depot did not even cover the doors up -This was done not by Home Depot, but one of us. When I spoke to the original person who called demanding that Home Depot could no longer keep the doors at the store - I asked her if Home Depot could bring the doors inside the location of delivery. She said yes, that this could be done. But this was not done. These doors are too heavy to move in. read more

This DC Home Depot has a low rating, but I don't think it's merited. I found the store to be clean, organized with a helpful staff. I went here to find a Philips head screw with the correct length/thread for the light assembly of my car and an employee helped me that was patient, knowledgeable and efficient. I did come here for just a screw, so maybe other folks had a home improvement project that wasn't to their liking...I don't know. I had an extremely frustrating and needlessly drawn-out customer service experience at this Home Depot location, particularly with the tool rental department and its manager, Toni. I rented a gas pressure washer that began smoking heavily and shut down on its own within minutes of use. I immediately stopped using the equipment and returned it the next day. When I explained the issue, Toni acknowledged the equipment failure but refused to issue a refund. She told me I should have contacted the store immediately when the issue occurred. The problem? By the time I got home and set up the equipment, the rental department had already closed for the evening. When I pointed this out, she said I still should have called first thing the next morning--even though I had to go into work early and wasn't available to call until my lunch break. I called during my break in the early afternoon, which was the earliest reasonable time I could. Toni dismissed that call as "too late," and her justification for denying the refund became a moving target of retroactive expectations that had never been communicated. She remained inflexible and dismissive throughout the interaction. It felt like I was being scammed out of my money for a tool I didn't even get to use. Toni offered only a partial refund, corresponding to the portion of the 24-hour rental that remained after I reported the issue, or about four hours. According to her, I would only be refunded one-sixth of the total cost. This was completely unacceptable, as I was never able to use the tool at all. Home Depot failed to provide the service I paid for, and I was entitled to a full refund. Toni didn't relent. She then asked whether I had purchased the Equipment Protection Coverage. I told her I didn't believe I had, as the rental clerk the day prior never informed me about it and simply added it to the total without my knowledge. Toni claimed this was impossible and that staff are required to offer the protection when generating the contract. Regardless, I was never told about this coverage, and nothing in the documents I signed made it obvious I had purchased it. Toni told me I was now "in extra trouble" for not having purchased this coverage, because I would be responsible for the cost of repairing the defective equipment. After threatening these extra charges, she then claimed she would "waive" the damage fees as a courtesy. But when I reviewed the final receipt, I saw: 1. No discount had been given--the "refund" was just my security deposit, which was being returned anyway; and 2. I had purchased Equipment Protection, which Toni likely realized but chose not to mention, possibly to make it seem like she was doing me a favor. The next day, I filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and opened a dispute with American Express, the card I used for the rental. Only after that did I receive a call from a customer service rep at Home Depot's corporate office. The rep asked if I would accept a store credit to resolve the issue. I declined, explaining that I had no intention of shopping at Home Depot again after this experience. The rep said she would escalate the issue to the store. Later, I received a call from Kevin, another manager at this Home Depot location who said that since the rental contract had been "closed," he couldn't refund my card and could only offer an in-store credit. I repeated that I no longer shop at Home Depot and that an in-store credit, especially one that requires an in-person visit and can't be used online, is not an acceptable resolution. Despite acknowledging the equipment was defective and unusable, Kevin still refused to offer anything but an in-store credit. Only after continued pressure and over a week of follow-up did Kevin reach out to me again to finally agree to issue me a refund by check. Had I not paid with a credit card that allowed me to dispute the charge, I highly doubt I would have ever gotten my money back. Even now, despite being told on June 12 that the check was on its way and would arrive within 14 days, it has been over six weeks and I have yet to receive it. I have not heard anything further from the store or Home Depot corporate. At this point, I believe the check is never coming. This feels like a fitting end to a long, frustrating, and deeply disappointing experience in which Home Depot seemed determined to deny me a refund at every turn. This was by far one of the most exhausting customer service experiences I've ever had. If you rent from this location and something goes wrong, don't expect fairness or accountability. You'll have to fight tooth and nail just to be treated decently. read more

Tl;dr - don't get your keys copied here. I needed a key copied, so I used their machine. Frustratingly, they don't accept Apple Pay and I didn't have my wallet. So I left the key behind and came back an hour later to find that they had lost the key! I made it a second time, but when I brought it home, the key didn't work!! The key machine said "100% guarantee". $4 and 2 trips - I didn't waste any more time going back to get a refund. I eventually got my key copied at the Brookland Ace Hardware where it was $2, they accepted Apple Pay, and the key *worked*. They also gave my dog a treat. A frustrating experience! read more

A one star rating after many years and tries with this particular Home Depot. Do I appreciate the proximity to my home? Yes. Have I EVER left satisfied with my experience or purchases? No, never. After a solid year's break of venturing to this HD, I decided to give it another shot to purchase a DeWalt laser level for my husband's birthday present. I checked online and the website said that this location had three in stock, so I used the convenient "send item location to my phone" feature from the Home Depot website. Upon entering the store, I zoomed right to the aisle, bay, and shelf where these levels were to be stocked. Not only was the item for which I was looking missing, but the entire area was in total disarray. Disorganized doesn't begin to explain it. Fast forward to nearly 45 minutes later, even with the help of three employees -- I left empty-handed. And I quote: "You can't trust any inventory numbers from the website. I was in need of cleaning products as I have mold and mildew in my home. The employees do not seem aware of what's going on. I had to ask multiple people which product was better. Sometimes as a home-maker, you have to do it yourself so I needed assistance from the employees but the employees are typically no where to be found. They also don't understand when you say you are visually and hearing impaired. So my suggestion is that Home Depot reviews its Accessibility policy to ensure all people have access to Home Depot! Coworker helped me find what I needed, and then provided even more helpful information. I've been shopping at this Home Depot for over 10 years. Never once has an employee ever asked me if I needed help. Something is going on at this Home Depot. Is it a new manager? Why are all of the workers smiley and in a good mood? Why do the floors look so clean? Several years ago, I came in looking for a solution for a faucet issue. The worst customer service I've experienced at any business. June 30, 2024, 9:00 a.m.: I take 5 boards to checkout. The boards have been cut in half by the man in the lumber department, so there are 10 pieces, 6 ft each. The woman at the register (Ashley) tries to charge me for 7 boards. I notice before I run my card and I point out the mistake. I tell her there are 5 boards, all the same, and they've been cut in half. 10 pieces. She says she has to charge me for 7, because 7 of the 10 pieces have tags on the end. (I'm not kidding.) I tell her to just read the tags -- it says right on the tag what the lengths the boards are -- 12 ft. And she can clearly see that these 10 pieces are all 6 ft in length. Very basic arithmetic. And yet, she wants to charge me for 7 boards. Because she sees 7 tags. She then tells me I need to go to customer service and have them check me out. She won't check me out unless I pay the $30 extra for two boards that don't exist. At this point I am still completely calm. I wheel my 5 boards, 10 pieces, to customer service. There I find a customer service rep, Eva, and one customer in the area, who she is likely helping, so I wait. Eva then tells me I need to go to the back of the line. But there is no line. There is one other customer she is helping. No one else in the area. I'm around the other side of the station from the other guy, and it's not clear where anyone is supposed to stand, but I'm not going to wheel the heavy cart around the island for no reason, so I stand there and wait. Eva is on the phone, getting some assistance related to the other customer, I believe. But the phone is malfunctioning, so she has to get off and wait for someone to call her back. While she's waiting for the call, my eye is caught by the self-service checkout. I ask her if I can just take my stuff to the self-checkout. Problem solved, right? She seems confused. I ask again. She tells me I can't get a refund at the self-checkout. I tell her I haven't paid for anything -- no refund necessary. I'm only there because Ashley said I needed to have customer service count the boards. Eva doesn't say anything, but stares blankly at me. Still calm at this point, I ask her again if I can take my cart to the self-checkout line and pay there, fifteen feet from where I'm standing. Eva doesn't respond. She just continues staring back at me as if I've committed some offense. At this point I'm still calm, but I'm about to lose it. Who knows what the other customer is thinking. Eva would rather stare at me than help either one of us. She's evidently decided it's rude for a customer to ask a customer service representative a question, so she is staring at me to let me know how offended she is. At that point, I lose it. I'm no longer calm, "It's a goddamned yes/no question. Just tell me if I can check my own stuff out!" No response from Eva. Nothing. Just stares back at me. I take my stuff to the self-checkout, check it out myself, and I'm done. The guy in the lumber department did a fine job cutting my boards, but the other two employees seemed to hate me for shopping there. Can you even imagine going to a neighborhood hardware store and having a checkout clerk tell you they are not allowed to count the items you are buying? Never in a million years would that happen. Dear god, I should have just pulled two of the tags off myself and thrown them away, and then maybe Ashley would have been willing to charge me the correct amount. p.s. -- It turns out there is a Lowe's just down the street from HD. Problem solved! That's where I'll go for now on when I can't get something at Jenks. read more

This Home D is the only location in DC and it shows - customer service is terrible, staff know about it and they don't care since there is almost no competition, especially if one needs lumber and construction stuff. It feels as if staff is annoyed by the customers disturbing their chats or whatever they are doing pretending to be busy. Not a angle time I was asked if I need help ( it almost always happens at Lowes and in some HD in VA and MD). Staff makes no eye contact - they are so obviously do not want to be bothered. This is a very limited Home Depot. You call ahead to make sure that items are in stock and when you get there you find that there are less items and they promised and they're all broken and dilapidated. (Garden department). Very few employees stop to assist you when you ask for assistance and I was send to the wrong aisle multiple times. One great employee I did met was a young gentleman whose orange vest said 'Meredith.' Everyone ran to him for assistance because he was so helpful!! He deserves all the praise. He did the job of 10 employees. He smiled and was friendly. He came over to you to see if you needed help. He answered all my questions and gave great suggestions. Home Depot can offer decent prices on things, but they really sacrifice in other areas like customer service. You might get lucky and find a helpful employee, but I had a lot of non-helpful experiences. Example: Today I was wondering around and no employees were around looking to help me or others who could clearly use assistance. So I find one and say I bought a Home Depot dishwasher and was told I needed a longer drain hose but wasn't sure exactly what kind. Instead of helping, he just said "If we have anything like that, it'd be in Aisle 30." [I had already been in Aisle 30 for 10 minutes - there was nothing like that there.] I asked another employee who took me to the plumbing section which was much closer to what I wanted - but Home Depot's in-store supply is pretty meager. This store is also just disorganized and has a lot of trash in the parking lot and in the store. Home Depot made $3.5 BILLION in one QUARTER. I'm not saying they need to be a full-service store planning and advising every aspect of customer's projects for free, but they could at least make their stores cleaner, and hire more staff, especially online. I'm definitely buying appliances from now on from places that invest more in customer service - probably local places - many of them will match Home Depot's price anyway. I walked out of the Home Depot and went to go buy parts on Amazon instead. I also went to Lowe's for other parts - and the store was much cleaner and staff much friendlier! read more

I come here on my days off, which are in the middle of the week. There are always more employees in the store than customers, despite it being a huge space. I waited behind five or six customers to get keys made, only for the rude woman running the machine to tell me "we don't have that one" when I tried to get a copy made. When I was checking out, the cashier literally had her back turned to me, talking to another employee. I strongly recommend going to Annie's Hardware nearby instead. The store is much smaller but the people are very helpful and polite, and I've never had an issue with copying keys. Bought a 24 inch built-in microwave and it arrived wrong size and color. On Homedepot website shows as stainless steel frame on every 8 pictures but it came absolutely black. When I call Homedepot they told me that I need to buy the stainless steel frame separately but with the frame it come as 37 inches that's too big for my space and won't feed. They asked me to return it to homedepot and ask them to help me find the right microwave. As soon as I get to return department, they said I need to talk to appliance manager first. As soon as she came, immediately said we won't accept the return and she asked me to leave. I have never seen unfriendly and rude manager like her in any of Homedepot's. She even DID NOT listen what I'm saying. I went to another Homedepot in VA and their manager sat and carefully listened to me. Despite being in the middle of the city, it feels like a Home Depot that you're used to with a huge parking lot and a massive building full of any house and garden supply you need. It gets crowded on weekends, but you can usually find a staff member help you find any section from paints to keys to doors.
