I've been going to Logan Hardware for years but a recent experience has left a really bad taste in my mouth. I was mugged around a month ago, and in my bag was my set of keys for my house- so I went to Logan to get my roommates set copied. Again, because I did not have my credit and debit cards, I had gone into my bank and took out $200, which they gave to me in two separate $100 bills. I went into Logan Hardware and everything seemed fine until I got home and realized the cashier had shorted me $20! I tried to give them a call and no one answered. I was home at that point and didn't want to have to trek back. I had chalked it up to a bad occurrence, and given my circumstances decided to concentrate on normalizing my life after having been mugged. However, this weekend I went back to pick up an AC filter. No one helped me and I felt super overwhelmed with the options. Very frustrating. Will not be back. read more

I have been intending to write a (5 star) review of Logan hardware for years and finally got around to it. First of all, I hate hardware stores. I have bad flashbacks of my dad dragging me to Lowe's and the place smelling like bug spray. Between the fumes and the boredom, I barely made it out alive. The only reprieve was looking at the paint chips or sitting in the lawn furniture. When I grew up, I found the occasional need to go to a hardware store and ended up at Home Depot. Horrors. There I was, wandering the aisles, completely void of employees (who I am certain actually HIDE so they don't have to help anyone). Sure, let me just cut this 2x4 myself. That seems like a good idea. I think the first time I went into Logan, I was looking for nails that could penetrate my brick walls in my Dupont condo. I went to Logan because it was close. Logan Hardware might have the best customer service I have ever encountered. You walk in, and someone immediately asks you what you're looking for. Even if you say "one of those thingys that you use to hold up a curtain - not a rod, but one of those... things," the person will still direct you to the general part of the store where that item can be found. While you're en route, employee #1 has spoken to the person in the area of the store or the floor where they sent you. Employee #2 will then intercept you and help you find the thingy, give you ideas of a better thingy to buy, tips on how to install the thingy, etc. If the thingy you think you want is more expensive than what you need, they'll tell you that, too. And, they manage to do all of this without ever being condescending. Everyone seems to genuinely like working there. Dare I say it is a pleasure to go to hardware store? It's not a place I would go just for fun as I generally have no interest in building or fixing anything, but when I need to go, I wouldn't consider anywhere else. The best neighborhood hardware store in the District, hands down! The new location is stunning! I went in for the first time today and was blown away by the amount of inventory. Two full floors - it's five times bigger than the old location. Plus, upstairs in the back they've built a large balcony off the building where in the spring/summer I'm told they'll have live plants and an expanded greenhouse type area. Incredibly friendly staff and always so super helpful. Ask for John when you stop in! He's as friendly and helpful as they come. Highly recommend. read more

For a small store they have lots in stock. People are helpful and knowledgeable though sometimes wish I could get in the door and start looking before they ask to help you. As to be expected prices are higher than at the big chain stores. read more

EV-ER-REE Time I enter into this magical place I am greeted with helpful friendly faces and pleasant attitudes! It truly is the place with the helpful hardware folks!! Just know that the plant folks are rockstars and that I have to do a self check sometimes to make sure I'm not too hard of a groupie! The plant people will answer just about any question about plants. If they do not know the answer, with unpretentious honesty, they will direct you to the right person, or just straight up look it up and give their best guidance to where you can do a little research. Logan Hardware has moved. Perhaps the old version of this page for the P Street location can be moved here? There were so many reviews (excellent ones!) of the P Street location, and this is essentially the same thing, just a little north of the old location. This place is absolutely incredible. Amazing service! It can be a bit busy on weekends, but once you have someone helping you they will walk you through everything and answer any questions you have. The place is spotless and has a spacious upstairs and downstairs. They typically have enough people at the registers so the lines move quickly. This is my go-to hardware store in DC! read more

The guy who made them said he would "make sure whoever made them would learn their lesson?" I was like-" you made them", which he tried to deny. Charming little hardware store that is dog friendly and well staffed with friendly folks! Refreshing after years of going to Home Depot.

I usually have a good experience there, but I am forced to report the way I was treated this morning by the manager, Joe. Yesterday I rented a sander, the machine was worn and ended up being dysfunctional and not working. I brought it back this morning explaining the pb and asking for my money back since not only I could not get the job done i also had lost my time. The staff and the manager treated me as a liar, and refusing to believe the machine did not work, and instead of accepting to turn it on to try and verify, they asked me to go all the way back home to get the unused sanding pads to prove I could not sand. I eventually did go back home, lost another hour, just to prove I was not lying to them. We ended up trying the machine together, the manager could finally see it was not working, returned me the money and took the sander out the rental pool. All in all, rental equipment should be in good working order at all time, and customers should never be treated as liars when reporting an issue. Today ACE lost a good customer, and I lost my time dealing with a disrespectful manager. read more

I came here to buy some indoor plants and had the most enjoyable experience! Their plants are located on the 2nd floor, and there's even an outdoor balcony with a huge selection. I recently ventured into Little Leaf, only to find that they charge $10 more than Logan Hardware for the same exact plant. Walking around and interacting with their workers, you can tell that Logan Hardware treats their employees right. I should make Logan Hardware a regular stop for errands. I always think of them when I need something that really seems like a home improvement tool, like a level or drywall tools to fix the holes drilled before I purchased the level. But Logan Hardware has all kinds of useful stuff. There is a whole plants section upstairs if you want something to cheer up your apartment. And there is kitchen aisle with every essential pan and utensil and small appliance, and then another entire aisle of ordinary cleaning products to repair your kitchen the cooking mess. All of that aside, the other reviewers are correct when they mention the wonderful staff who work here. They are available to answer every question and recommend the best product for the job. Forget the trip to Target and just head to Logan Hardware. They have everything. read more

In a world of corporate hegemony fueling disregard for customer service, Logan Hardware stands apart. I recently moved to the Columbia Heights area and completed a number of home improvement projects. Admittedly, I am terrible at home improvement. However, every single goddamn time I have gone to Logan Hardware for various products and assistance, some wizard of home improvement is there to help. I have gone in for various issues (e.g., plumbing, fasteners, garden, etc.) and EVERY SINGLE TIME there is someone knowledgeable enough to get me what I need. Sometimes I go in and spend $1.60 (I got four screws from Marvin), other times I make more sizeable purchases. Regardless, I am treated with the same attention and care. I have gone to other hardware stores in the area (looking at you Lowes, Home Depot, and the Adams Morgan Ace). Never again. If Logan doesn't have what I'm looking for, they offer to order it. I will do that rather than drive over to another store. I wish I could list all the people who have helped me. My failure to know/remember their names is mine and does not reflect the amazing customer service I have received from basically everyone I've ever asked assistance from. But, I can say that Mary, who works in Lawn & Garden, is an ALL STAR. Hang on to her with all you've got. Phil is a gem. Marvin is fantastic. Sharmon are very helpful in solving my fastener dilemma. Also, he had a great sense of humor that helped me not feel like a moron. I just got on the phone with Logan to jog my memory re: names and spoke to Nita. She was fantastic too. Very nice and accommodating staff, with a lot of things on sale for such a central location. Will help you find every little thing, not get frustrated by a bunch of questions, etc. And plants are often really cheap, which is nice because I tend to kill them in short order. He was funny and supportive. He told us it was our choice in plant and not our over-loving. He picked us out a plant and helped us re-pot it. Many in DC don't realize that all the Ace Hardware stores now in the District (Tenley, Takoma Park, 5th St, Glover Park, Woodley Park, this Fabulous new location for Logan Park and a few others) are all owned and run by the same people, a wonderful married couple who started the first one, this one on P St, in 2003 for all the right reasons. No high-powered, impersonal entrepreneurs here. Rsther, two people who realized the neighborhoods needed great hardware stores, the big box stores further afield were frustrating to many, and treating employees and customers like Kings and Queens is a good formula for any business. Humble yet determined. Kind yet tenacious. Just a great story all around and we are so fortunate they chose DC to reintroduce the great neighborhood hardware store. Yep, this fantastic new 14th St location is now the flagship for all the DC shops and even a couple in Baltimore. Despite being twice the size of the old P St location with so much more on offer, the heart and soul of this store made the move too! Go figure: consistent values along with hammers, key cutting and Xmas trees! Knowledgable and friendly staff! Greetings at the door when you enter! Real concern and sincerity answering questions or advising on projects. Wow. Wow. And, wow! Have been frequenting these stores since 2003 and on the rare days when I find myself in a Home Depot, I know why more than 3/4 of my home improvement and related spending is at these shops. Do not go here to get your keys cut. I have now had the same key cut twice at Logan Hardware and both times it does not work. It is not the key as I have now taken it to another hardware store (much better) and it worked immediately. read more
