Pepsi and REAL COFFEE!
Tom B.

Another stellar Saturday at LOVICK's in Kinston. Neets and I wanna call this our "breakfast home away from home". Everything was PERFECT! Had a great talk with the owner himself as well as several neighboring customers. GREAT PLACE - had the grits - bottomless coffee & new item to me (the Dough Sandwich Egg Cajun-style with and sausage and mustard in a Sandwich - Let me tell you - "It was top shelf!" We LUV this place!!!

Great diner for breakfast! Food and service were good. Warehouse meal was a good hearty breakfast. The grits were good but I prefer mine more creamy. The fresh link sausage had some spicy kick to it, so if you don't like spicy food, steer away from that. Pancake was more yellow than what I'm use to. I guess it had corn meal in it? It was still fluffy and great pancake. Coffee was fantastic. The atmosphere was very old school diner with seating area and a bar counter. They also had a sign that they do online orders which is almost unheard of for old school mom n pop dives. Highly recommend and will try lunch in the near future!

I order the western omelette with home fries and wheat bread dine out. The food looked good and representable the way they will just serve in the restaurant.

We love love love Lovick's! This restaurant, along with Smith's Cafe, is the oldest family owned restaurants in Kinston, NC. They were started and still continue to be ran by family! The food is excellent and their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They recently did some renovations to the building and it looks amazing. They continue to sell their famous dough burgers, which I'm not crazy about but a lot of people love them. I stick to their traditional breakfast and regular meals like hamburger steak. The next time you are in Kinston make sure you check out this morning food spot! You won't be sorry!

Our World Famous "Dough Burger" (not)

Not impressed with their greasy, "world famous" dough burger. We stopped for lunch with a small group. It seems to be the place where locals go. The staff and owners were very hospitable though. It's just this dough burger was something from depression-era period. Apparently you can stretch using ground beef for several meals by sprinkling dough with a scant of beef then dropping it in a deep fryer to cook. It was also "loaded", meaning it included their chili, mustard and onions. I put more butter on my toast than they give chili. Sorry folks, while your customer was top notch, the food was not.

We both ordered the Western omelet. They had a generous portion of bacon, ham, cheese, tomato chunks, mushrooms, onions and green peppers. I had the grits and biscuit as my sides. As a "grits snob" I was impressed with the texture and flavor.. My biscuit could only have been better if I had asked for home style gravy. It was good with butter and grape jelly. My wife had home fries and toast as her sides. The flavor was good, but she wasn't happy with the temperature- they were on the cool side. We both got orange juice and we're surprised when we were handed a bottle. The wait staff quickly got us two glasses with ice and we had more than enough juice for either of us. Service was quick, in spite of the crowd that was in the cafe. We were told that we had picked a good time (about 9:45 AM) to come eat. There had been a long wait line for most of the morning! We were seated within a few minutes of our arrival. The cafe was just like you'd find in most small towns across America. Nothing exceptional, just a touch of simplicity.

The Farmer and The Dail came highly recommended for their delicious baked goods and southern breakfast. My family lives in the area and gave the 2 thumbs up. I placed an online order for a birthday cake to celebrate my mom's 70th. We visited today after noon and jumped in line to place our brunch order and pick up the cake. We decided on the FATD breakfast bowl that comes with hash browns, a biscuit, grits and bacon. I have been wanting to try their famous biscuit bombs. I decided on the bacon bomb. I have never had a biscuit so pillowy soft and delicious! This place is perfection ! My mom's birthday cake was also equally as delicious. She enjoyed how light and airy the cake was, how decadent the frosting was. How beautifully decorated ! We will be regulars here when in the area visiting loved ones. Thank you for making a memorable birthday by putting love in your recipes.

I was shocked at how flavorless the whole thing was. Why am I still giving this place 4 stars you ask? My girlfriend had the chicken minis which were delicious because the biscuits were seasoned and the chicken was perfectly cooked. There were so many baked goods on display that all looked amazing and their regular menu looks super promising. The environment is super welcoming and there is a huge sunflower field outside for photo opps. So 4 stars for potential. I will be back to try once again, just never on a Sunday.

After numerous trips I still can't put my finger on what exactly is done differently at Blu to outperform so many fantastic restaurants. It's as if they have somehow managed the flavors of a Michelin restaurant with plating that isn't so... boring and sterile. Portion sizes are more than adequate, none of that one taste nonsense here. The service is always fantastic, professional and friendly. The owner is occasionally willing to share recipes with you and has never disappointed me with a recommendation. The cocktails? Just "wow". Perhaps what makes this place so fabulous is that they manage to do so well in so many categories. I'll consider that more in depth next time I make a reservation which may just have to be today. Speaking of, if you don't make a reservation, don't be disappointed when you don't have a seat. This isn't a place you can always walk in and sit down. They don't have many tables and it's obvious that they aren't the type of place to sit more people than they can take care of. However, if find yourself in Swansboro NC and have a craving for pimento cheese biscuits and gravy (yes, you are reading it right), this is the place for you. So like all my write ups, I'm going to give you as fair expectation from a food, service, ambience, and price per perspective. The place is a lot of fun, sitting right past the White Oak River bridge coming into Swansboro from Cape Carteret. It's in an old building right on the river and adjacent to a small park which is kind of fun to visit after you eat and look at the wildlife and relax. It's has they fun small hole in the wall feel, with about a dozen tables and a nice cozy suitable bar. The ambience is great, more so for a date or with four friends out to dinner together. I know I'm writing about breakfast but I've been there for dinner too and had the fish tacos, that are stuffed them full of grouper and they're absolutely fantastic. For breakfast, I had the brisket, eggs, and home fries bowl. The brisket was absolutely fantastic perfectly tender, the eggs were light and fluffy. The home fries were crispy on the outside and soft inside, so very yummy. . ...oh, I almost forgot, they had big coffee cups.. see the picture... I was extremely impressed by the hands squeezed orange juice, which was out of this world. Most items on the menu were between $12 and $18, which I thought was extremely reasonable for the quality of food that you're getting. The portions were big enough to split as well. Hollie, our server was sweet and very attentive, and a lot of fun to chat with. I highly recommend you give the place a try for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You won't be sorry.

I drove nearly an hour to get to this restaurant, excited to try the oxtails. Upon arrival, I was told they were no longer being served because they were out. This marks the third time I've driven there specifically for oxtails and was unable to get them due to being out of stock. This wasn't late in the afternoon either--I arrived right at lunch opening. I know what some of you are thinking: why not call ahead? You're absolutely right. That mistake is on me, and I've definitely learned that lesson. On a previous visit, I tried the shrimp and grits, and I'll give credit where it's due--they were actually phenomenal and easily the best thing I've had there. Unfortunately, my other experiences haven't matched that quality. The last time I visited, I settled for the brisket burrito. While sweet and savory can work together, this one was overwhelmingly sweet and just didn't hit the mark. I also asked for a Diet Coke and was told they only had Sprite, regular Coke, and water, which was surprising. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy, which had almost no flavor. For a southern soul food restaurant, that was pretty disappointing. I don't plan on coming back. I'm not mad--just disappointed. I hope this review helps others avoid making a long drive expecting a specific dish only to find out it's unavailable.
