Very friendly atmosphere. They try an accommodate special non menu requests. Their wings are excellent, both grilled and fried. We asked for a blackened dry rub with they delivered. Drink prices are fair and service is very good. The prime rib sandwich comes with plenty of meat which was delicious. Will be back often as long as we are in town. read more

Spunky's is the place to go for a wide menu variety and consistently great food. Good variety of draft beers and good service. Try their wings fried and grilled to add a little char. Their bisque is always a good option. The Irish vibe means they offer corned beef on the 17 of every month but you will need to get there early on those days as they usually run out. read more

Great service and good prices. Much of the food is scratch made but not the fried fish for the fish and chips. Side salad, side of mushrooms and the Rueben sandwich were all very good. Good,casual food for an easy night! Plenty of TVs around for all the sport enthusiasts. Service was quick. I wouldn't go there if you are trying to drop a few pounds, because cheese sounds on a lot of the food. Probably why I enjoyed it so much. Also very affordable, it didn't cost any more than a fast food run and we got to sit down and be waited on. Much needed easy going restaurant in the New Bern area. Being new to the area went to this establishment bout 2 weeks ago for prime rib and it was ok but liked the atmosphere. This evening we went one person is in a wheelchair and I ran in to inquire how long the wait would be . 15 min waiting to see how long the wait will be ( still didn't after 15 ) . I asked a waitress and she ignored and flew by . Said excuse me and was cut off and she stated " go to McDonald's "!! So after being ignored and have to listen to a wise cracking waitress I walked out and spent my money elsewhere ! Me being an owner of an Italian restaurant would never have my waitresses. Having been recommended, I had lunch at Spunky McDoogle's and ordered the fish and chips. First let me preface by saying that the pub is really nice and had that "Irish" vibe. The staff was very nice and our server was exceptional. My disappointment was what I'd ordered; thinking that McDoogle's was emulating a real Irish pub. My fish looked reminiscent of when I was a child eating Mrs. Paul's frozen fish filets on Friday's during lent. I received three perfectly and Identically formed fish filets, and I may be wrong, but they did not resemble fresh. A fist full of fries was included - which actually saved the lunch, but nothing else...no slaw, etc. Perhaps my expectations were set a bit high - I will go back and try something else because I really did enjoy the ambiance of McDoogle's. read more

Wife and I stopped by for dinner on 7/5/25. Waitress took our order without writing anything down and I ordered a Reuben with no cheese because of an allergy and my wife ordered fish n chips with cocktail sauce. Waitress brings out a Reuben with cheese and Fish n chips with no cocktail. Waitress brings removed the Reuben and it took another 20 minute to get my sandwich. Wife was done eating so I cancelled the order, paid my bill with tip and left. Restaurant needs to be more aware of people with food allergies!!! read more

My wife and I stopped in here for the first time. I had read some nice reviews so we wanted to give them a try. It's a cozy bar and grill that would be great for lunch or dinner. After checking out the menu, we both wanted to try the cheesesteak hoagie. Being from Philadelphia and having had the real thing, we knew nothing could compare but we went in with open minds. Kathey got the cheesesteak along with a house salad while I chose fries and a cup of vegetable beef soup with my cheesesteak. The sandwiches were a bit drier than an original Philly cheesesteak but overall it was good. The food was served very hot and it was flavorful. A little more sauce or something else to moisten it up and the cheesesteak would have been much better. So, we are glad we stopped in and will probably go back again to try other items on the menu. read more

Found this place and decided to give it a try. Upon walking in the atmosphere is friendly and great. The noise level is a bit high, but that is to be expected for a bar. It was clean and kept nice inside also. The server was great and did her job well. Now, if you want the coldest beer you've had, they got it. If you want some of the best wings you've ever eaten, get to this place. Beer and wings were fresh and full of flavor. The other foods ordered were good and I'd have to say the shrimp, stay clear of. There was some negative to the place, starting with the margarita. Beer is their specialty. Stick to that when you're here. Probably the worst margarita I've had. I also got the shrimp in Buffalo sauce and it was a bit dry and didn't taste very fresh. I had my doubts on it. I was right. Now with all this being said, again, the wings are hot and the beer is cold. Everyone has some bad, but these guys and gals bad won't deter me from being back here again. read more

Came from out of state to visit "Gentleman of the Bar" a somewhat memorial for my late father who passed away. Had a party of 4 adults and 2 infant children (age 1 and 2) Wait staff refused to seat us as they counted the infants as adults and stated they "didn't have the space" We waited an hour as we watched countless other parties who arrived long after us be seated, and stared at several empty large booths that could very easily seat 6 adults... (apparently their policy is only 4 people per booth) After an hour we left. Our party was even passed over 3 times with an empty table with 4 chairs for the adults... as the babies could've very easily used high chairs) and was told again they didn't have the space. One member of our party even offered to leave so the others could be served and was still told no. VERY disappointed. Won't be back read more

Finally made it here for lunch and was actually ine of the better meals I have had in town. We had the special which was chicken and dumplings and the ruben sandwich with macaroni salad and onion rings. Everything was really good! And they know how to cook the perfect medium rare burger...mouthwatering and juicy! I've tried both the Spunky Burger and the Spicy Bacon Burger. You can't go wrong with either choice! Place was crowded for a Monday afternoon but the people and staff were friendly. My daughter had the 4 oz seared tuna and cole slaw and i had a grilled chicken sandwich with snap peas.
