Popped in while on our way to another spot in new bern.. really nice place and had great selection of beer.. I had lunatic blueberry with lime - gruit.. it was really good.. hubby had tasty pants it's a pale ale. Looked like a comfortable space to kick back, relax with beer and good friends! Our bartender was on his own but it wasn't too busy only few couples but he was very nice. The beer is good and plenty seats and tables inside and out front. Still by far the best brewery in town. AND they now are open pretty much all day with coffee and bakery items including homemade muffins, bread, and cinnamon rolls (and pepperoini rolls, call me crazy, but they're so good I'll eat them any time of day). It's the only place in New Bern with huge windows and a lot of light that makes it enjoyable to sit and get work done. They've got free wifi, and they're always super friendly and helpful. There really aren't many great cafes to work from in the area, so this is a huge help. read more

Being out of town we felt like at home. First we enjoyed an evening with tasting different brews they offer - I love hot spicy and the Jalepeno beer didn't disappoint, but loved they also had Selzer, cider, bubbles and super tasty CBD drink. I just adore trying out new things. Then the next day we had breakfast - wow their muffin and cinnamon buns were so delicious. We even went back on our second night too and had such a fun evening. It's such a great place to meet people and start sharing life stories. The staff is incredible attentive and friendly. The owner Pete the nicest owner you possible can find. This is the by far the best kept secret (or is it even?) in Eastern NC. We stumbled upon this place several months ago when venturing to New Bern from Greenville. Honestly, this place was almost made for pandemic life. Despite mostly being outdoors, it has a divey - and yet somehow coastal - atmosphere. Dogs are welcome. They even sell homemade dog treats! Great place to hang, especially in nice weather. There's a covered outdoor bar, picnic tables, and even corn hole. The place is situated within an alley, of sorts, adding to the charm. Regarding the beer - they have a good variety with lots of style choices. They have a rotating gruit, dark beers, light beers, and a seltzer etc. This was the perfect place for me to order a flight and test my beer knowledge. They even sell big flights (aka like you can try almost all with one order). Literally every one of their beers are phenomenal examples of their respective styles. Grade A. Delicious. Love it here Highly encourage anyone to buy the merch. It is so comfortable. Unfortunately for everyone who knows me, I can't take off my Brewery 99 sweatshirt now. My only regret is that I don't live closer. I guess it's a good thing, or I'd be here every day. It seems like there's a crowd of locals and regulars who hang here, and they seem welcoming and friendly to anyone who shows up. The brewmaster or owner (Pete) has always been around each time we've visited and makes sure to check in and have personal conversations about how we're enjoying the beer and our time there. It's a brewery, it's a bakery, it's both! As we travel around the country, we often find businesses we might not otherwise discover as we participate in the Harvest Host program that allows us stay overnight in these businesses. Such was the case with Brewery 99 (the 99th brewery in North Carolina). Hubby and I shared a flight of seven beers and we enjoyed all of them. Kyle the bartender gave me a taste of Lunatic with apocalypse and jalapeño peppers - I like spicy but wowza, this beer would have grown hair on my chest had I finished it! The next morning we were up early enticed by owner Pete's cinnamon rolls. He has found a way to combine his two favorite things in one business and has done it well! This place seems to attract locals and it was a pleasant atmosphere with good conversation buzz. Barley, Pete's dog greeted us in the morning with tail wagging and hoping we'd drop a bite of our cinnamon roll. read more

Hidden away from the hustle of daily walking is this hidden gem. If you ever get a chance to swing by, make sure you ask for Duncan - the handsome beer tender/ amateur fire artist. I came here after finding out they serve baked goods AND beer at 7am, and anyone working nightshift will understand my excitement at this knowledge. Upon arrival I'm greeted by the brew dog, Barley, so at this point the beer could taste like piss and I'm still leaving 5 stars. Fortunately, for honesty's sake, the beer is fantastic. I got a growler of Tasty Pants. I like light beer, but I also like flavor; it's hard to get a package deal, but this place delivered. Took some baked goods home with me. I'm not crazy about cinnamon rolls, but I guess I just didn't have the right one. These are outstanding, and yeah, they pair great with the beer. Owner was serving this morning, and he was super nice. Got a Barley sticker and some dog treats to go. Our pups approve as well. Will likely be coming back for a refill Saturday morning. read more

I usually only go on Thursday nights, and the bartender is such a great guy! A group of us usually meet up there around six, and he always remembers our drinks. My favorite beers alternate between tasty pants and the spicy one with the habaneros. I love trying out the different food trucks, and think this is a great way for people to be able to have dinner and a couple of beers at the brewery. We've also brought pizza in before, and that's always been super easy. We've not hung out at the brewery in the summertime yet, but I bet it will be very nice with that lovely outdoor seating area. read more

This might be my first review, so this is my go to brewery in New Bern. The owner, Pete, Frey, and his wonderful staff, including Alyssa, Danielle, Duncan, and Emma, all add to the warm and friendly ambience. They have a wide variety of beers to choose from that they brew on site. Lots of IPAs, though my favorite is the Belgian triple Xxx or configurnant. They often have live music, including the mad fiddler last week, and other fun things. They had a really fun ping pong tournament last month. read more

I had a fly in my beer. It didn't land in my beer it came out of the keg into the beer. Absolutely disgusting! The bartender asked if I wanted a replacement. No! There's microbreweries, there's nanobreweries, but I'm pretty sure this is a pico brewery. Super small quaint space in downtown New Bern. I came on my birthday (9/9!!) for a celebratory drink after riding the 50 mile bike ms event. This is obviously a loyal local hangout spot. Many of the patrons were chatting actively with the server. I never felt excluded though. Someone even offered to buy my birthday round. There's only about 4 beers on tap, but they are a small operation. I enjoyed my stout and then we went to dinner. It took us out of towners a hot minute to find this place. Upon finding it, we were not sure if it was a brewery. Well it is, just on a humble scale! We didnt go in until we saw a local go in, making sure it was open. Though it was small, with 3 beers on tap, it felt comfy with a good industrial vibe. I had the smoke American wheat, which had the perfect balance of smoke to my tastes. My hubby enjoyed the oatmeal stout while swapping techniques of brewing (he home brews) with the owner. Scored a quick Snapchat starring role (yikes, I'm not overly photogenic) for the owner as he went down his 'social media to-do list'. Glad to help! This was instantly one of my favorite places in New Bern. It's a teeny tiny bar but feels more authentic than almost anything around here. All the patrons were friendly and the owner is chill. There were 4 beer taps. The decor is very plain and a bit unfinished, which adds to the character. It's so small, there are only maybe a dozen stools. There is an outdoor area. It's not far from the center of downtown. Even though it wasn't super comfortable and the aesthetic atmosphere isn't great, I loved it here. Beer's good, too. read more

Stopped by here on 4th of July and unfortunately they were all sold out of their own beer ( still had NB on tap). However I loved the cozy little spot set back in an alley way. ( by the way if you try to find it by way of Google, its set behind the building that you will be led to) The owner Pete , chatted us up a bit though and gave great recommendations on what else to do and where to grab a tasty brew while in town. We ended up following his recommendations and had a fantastic couple of hours in town. Will definitely stop by again to try some beer! read more

This is a hidden gem! We wandered over after late lunch on a Saturday. Owner/brewer Peter was manning the taps. One of his own ( a delicious tripel- his pet recipe) was delicious. The other three were outside kegs. I didn't try those but his Belgian was flavorful, fruity, and with a subtle hop. While we were there, a local dude wandered in to offer a few of his own hops. Peter offered us smells of these local hops, then he pulled out some samples of his Pacific hops so we could crush, smell, and compare. It was the most interesting time in brewery I have ever had. The other beers were varied and I know were high quality. But I was interested in this guys passion and his work. I wish I could have tried some of his others. Go try this place! Now! read more
