This really is a very nice coffee shop, located right in downtown Kinston. We stopped here prior to heading over to Chef and the Farmer for dinner. It is actually pretty large inside, compared to most coffee shops. You can spread out and find a place to drink your coffee. Tried a latte when we were there. Very good. Prices reasonable. Great spot for coffee and laptop and figuring out what I'm going to do today in Kinston! It's quite big on the inside with a variety of setting styles including comfy chairs and tables to set up, most of which have power outlets nearby. I loved the exposed brick which gave off a nice vibe. When asked "small or large" I made the mistake of ordering a large and wow, it was large. 16 ounces of coffee and steamed milk. I didn't even try to drink more than a quarter of it and I'm sorry for the waste. But wow, this was a very big coffee. Tasty, rich and creamy. Next time I'll know better. I want to come back here! Had a hazelnut cappucino-type drink that was absolutely wonderful. Strolled over to this coffeehouse here for a quick caffeine pickup on the recommendation of the local butcher after picking up my Thanksgiving turkey. I love supporting small businesses and downtown Kinston keeps tempting me to return. Middle Grounds has the most airy indoor space, I found the ambiance very conducive to creating, brainstorming as well as just sitting, reading with a book. Middle Ground is a great name for a coffee shop. However, there is nothing middling about their coffee, it was pretty exceptional. There is a board that lists about 18 specialty drinks that you can have hot, iced, or blended like a frappe in either 12 or 16 ounces. Of course you can also have a plain coffee, espresso, latte, etc., or pick a flavor choice of your own. They also have pastries, granola bars, etc. The barista was super friendly, nice, and made a good drink. It's a non fussy place with a great soundtrack. #staygrounded read more

The coffee, first and foremost, is absolutely fantastic. The space is also very open and comfortable and was clearly created with the customers in mind. It's a fantastic spot for having a cup and getting on your laptop to chill out/do work. They seemed a little understaffed, but the service was still incredible and the girl at the counter was really friendly and clearly enthusiastic about making sure customers' experiences here are great. Great coffee in a great atmosphere. Every time I visit NC, I make sure to visit this place. The espresso drinks are AWESOME. It actually tastes like espresso in the drink, which I appreciate. They offer a lot of unique flavors and combos. The decor looks like it is straight off of a "coffee house" Pinterest board. I mean this in a good way. So happy that Kinston has a true coffee shop. Great location on Herritage Street right in the heart of Kinston. The space is very open, but still comfortable with lots of different seating options. We stopped in Middle Grounds on our way through town, after finding them on Yelp. The baristas were friendly and helpful. We ordered two *mostly* sugar-free salted caramel frappes, and they were delicious! The coffee shop is spacious, with a relaxing atmosphere. Cozy coffee shop. They have one menu with original coffee options and another with blended and flavored creations they've come up with. I'm not a huge coffee person and they were able to make a drink for me that I loved from that second list. For my parents, who do like coffee, it was just as perfect. There were lots of places to sit and hang out, one complete with a guitar. The employees were lovely and it was a perfect start to the morning. I will be back soon! Allergy Review: I have a peanut and tree nut allergy. They went through all the ingredients in my drink to make sure it was safe. This place is exactly what Kinston needs! Other cafes in town seem to have erratic hours and subpar coffee, but not Middle Grounds. The coffee here is absolutely amazing and Jessica is super friendly. I run in probably about three times a week after work and she knows my order by heart, talk about customer service. I haven't taken the time to do work at the café, but it seems like it would be a good study spot with the chill ambiance and large tables.
