I asked to be seated upstairs because I knew 2 of the members of the band that was going to be playing and I wanted to listen to them while I ate my dinner. I'll start with the good, because it is worth talking about, before I get to why this place left such a bad taste in my mouth. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself was a nice vibe. I really liked the décor, the music was a lovely blend of what I'm used to hearing at my Abuelo's house around the holidays.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff, while overwhelmingly uneducated about the type of food they were serving, was incredibly sweet and friendly. They took a long time to get our drinks to the table after we ordered them, but that honestly seems like a North Carolina service thing. There's no real sense of urgency in the service industry here, and we weren't in a rush. It would have been nice to have some waters maybe, and there were like three other tables so I can't imagine they were overwhelmed. The food was okay, insofar as it was edible and nobody got sick. To be honest, it was all bland. The churrasco and chimichurri was one of the bigger disappointments, we found it dry and barely seasoned. The chimichurri was also very bland. It was kind of like Chimichurri LeCroix in that it was oil with a faint whiff of the flavours I was expecting. The ropa vieja sushi roll tasted like it had been left out under a hot plate. The theory of flavours was cool, but when put into practice it just wasn't there. Bro, I live for Pernil and Lechon around the holidays, but that mofongo with pernil was not it. I don't understand why some folks seem terrified of salt. But the real thing that bothered me about this place was the blatant culture vulturing. It's obvious that a Dominican owns this place, one that did not do research on the origin of their dishes because "pernil" is not a Dominican dish, neither is sancocho. They are both Dominican AND Puerto Rican dishes. If you want to claim your menu is making them the Dominican way, that would be one thing, but then the owner blatantly ripped off staples of Puerto Rico that actually are original to that island, without referencing where they came from (as in the cases of mofongo and coquito). Puerto Ricans and Dominicans have such a rich culture and history that is entwined. I was excited to have found a place that I thought would celebrate that, and instead y'all really just poured spackle over your kin. read more

When driving through Goldsboro, we decided to grab a quick bite to eat downtown. We were originally going to stop at Thai Garden, but they were closed for repairs. Using my handy dandy Yelp App, I searched for another great lunch option, we landed on Brisas!! I will say that we were in a little bit of a rush, but this was no problem for the server. We were seated immediately and she took our orders pretty much right there and then. My husband and his friend ordered the shredded pork lunch plate (I am not sure the name) and I ordered the Ropa Vieja (shredded beef with onions and peppers). Some friends invited us to this restaurant and it was a five-star experience for sure! Our server Elliott (sorry if I spell your name wrong) was great. She was very attentive and answered any questions we had about the food and drinks. The atmosphere is casual. When you enter the restaurant there are high top tables and the bar area. In another room there are regular tables and is a nice room for larger parties. The hubs ordered tuna with rice and beans. He said it had a great flavor and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered the shrimp trifongos and it comes with a side salad made of mixed greens on the same plate. I also ordered the strawberry mash which included whisky and it was awesome. I ordered eggs scrambled soft with cheese, what I got was eggs that had been spread on the grill (not scrambled) & a thick pile of cheese in the middle, that I struggled to swallow. Had about 3 bites of each & set the plate aside, then ate the last appetizer wing drumette. I was willing to excuse the bad food bcz everybody has an off day, no problem. But what lost me was that the manager never came over after I explained all this to my waitress. Never asked could they remake it, never apologized, never cared. Tonight we came for drinks after dinner and the new spot is awesome! Great atmosphere and the manager is very accommodating. Live music here seems to be the best in town, full bar available, and more dining areas than we expected. Brisas is SO GOOD I had to come more than once while visiting Goldsboro. My first visit was on a Thursday evening, I came in with 3 coworkers I was traveling with, they have a great location in downtown Goldsboro with street parking and a nearby parking lot which were both free. We were promptly seated and our drink orders taken, they have a full bar and a beer/ wine list to choose from. I ordered a water and the Veggies Trifongo, which is made up of sweet plantains, green plantains and yuca, topped with fresh sautéed bell peppers, zucchini and spinach in a savory sauce the meal cake with a small salad on the side. We all enjoyed our dishes and my coworkers enjoyed a large piece of Tres Leches cake before we called it a night. My second visit was on Sunday for brunch, I was starving and ordered both the Brisas salad and Avocado Sunrise (no egged, no cheese, no butter) from the brunch menu. The salad was huge, a full plate filled with greens, fresh mango, fresh pineapple, tomatoes, cucumbers and half of an avocado with their house made vinaigrette, it was delicious. Their avocado sunrise was a big surprise to me, I assumed it would be a small plate since I removed the eggs... I was wrong! The serving was more than enough for 2 people! Plated was crispy potatoes, corn, black beans, onions and a sliced avocado on top, it was seasoned perfectly. I took half with me and ate it for dinner later. On this visit I also had a house speciality mojito with passion fruit, that drink deserves 5 stars too! Delicious! Their prices are very reasonable, service was exceptional, the dishes are high quality and interesting. This is just what Goldsboro needed and I'm so happy they are here and doing well. We found this place based on a friend's recommendation. This Latin inspired restaurant is the perfect brunch spot. The mimosa was fair and the prices were great. The spicy Bloody Mary was also delicious. My waffle has bourbon bacon maple butter and was mind blowing. The chicken was crunchy and flavorful. They have outside seating but we opted for inside. We would def grab a bite here again. PS if you go on a Sunday there isn't much else to see or do. Most of the street is closed. read more

Stopped in for a to go order because I had a taste for empanadas and tostones. Restaurant was nice and wait staff friendly. So the low star was for the taste of the food. I ended up ordering beef empanadas, tostones, and rice and beans. The rice and beans were inedible as they smelled and taste like cigars. The tostones needed to be fried a bit more and had no salt. The empanadas were basic with only beef - I was expecting onions & garlic in the flavor. I lived in the DR for two years and was expecting something similar. I even had a good food truck in Raleigh the other week with more flavor. So a bit disappointed. I didn't try a full meal so perhaps these are better but ... I probably will never know as full meals are too pricey for the taste I received in their appetizers and sides. read more

First time here tonight. It is so good. Our group tried 2 appetizers; the fried pimiento cheese balls and the barbecue tator tots with pulled pork. Both were absolutely awesome. I had the Cheshire Pork Chop. It was so juicy and delicious. My wife had the Empanada special. 2 for $5. They were larger than we expected which was nice. We also had the fired cheesecake for dessert. It was wonderful. Our server Leslie did a fantastic job taking care of our group. She was super friendly and accommodating. For our appetizer we had Brisas Tator tots - Fries potato tots topped with queso cheese fresco, pulled pork, green onions and a mango chipotle BBQ sauce. Not some flavors you would usually expect but it was delicious!! For dinner I had the Tropical Salmon. The sweet pineapple and mango chutney has all the right flavors not to mention fresh! My boyfriend had the Campesino Steak which had amazing flavors, steak was cooked perfectly and the shrimp were huge! Our waitress, Sam was so helpful on suggestions (and patient with me taking forever to choose what I wanted ). The Captain also performed and loved him!! I ordered CAMPESINO STEAK -- Eight oz. Skirt steak & shrimp sautéed with peppers and onions served with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus for $27.99. Shrimp, veggies, and mashed potatoes were great, but the steak was marinated in salt. The shirt steak tasted like salt, so I could not taste its flavor. The server brought out another shirt steak for me to try, but it tasted like salt also. We loved the fried Pimento Cheese Balls, my sister-in-law enjoyed the Cheshire Pork Chop, and my husband enjoyed his Sancocho. Hella excited right now because this restaurant opened up In Goldsboro and it serves Latin cuisine, one of my favorites. If you've read my review on Sabor, its the same management or owner or both. Either way, the owner brought it here to Downtown Goldsboro. This restaurant opened some time in the past six months, because it surely wasn't here when I left. The staff was awesome, seated us immediately! Glad we beat the lunch traffic. Barely any wait time on drinks and topping off our glasses ever few minutes. The restaurant gives a very relaxing and chill ambiance. The staff is very welcoming and open to any questions about the dishes. Looking at the menu, I immediately looked for the mofongo and trifongo. Both have a mix of green plantain and yucca root, but the trifongo is also mixed with sweet plantain. So i ordered the Trifongo with chicken but without the green plantain. The green plantain allows the plantain bowl to be a little more upright and kinda calm the sweetness from the regular plantain. However, I wanted to see if they're able to modify the trifongo, and they can!! So inside the sweet plantain yucca root bowl mix, was cut pieces of chicken and bell peppers, it was all smothered with a sauce that is just out of this world. On the side was a little salad, but I didnt pay any attention to it. Let me just say, i could've eaten the plate because that tasted so good. I will definitely be back! Wow! Wowzers! Wowee! Woowoo! I need you to know how good this meal was. I really need you to know. It was one of the more satisfying meals I have ever had in the city limits of Goldsboro. If every meal is as good as what I had last night, Brisas will quickly become my favorite Goldsboro establishment. My wife told me to order her meal. She didn't know what she wanted, so she let me pick. I ordered her the Mofongo with skirt steak and chimichurri. I ordered the pan seared salmon for myself. My salmon was cooked perfectly and served with a mango chutney over mashed potatoes with a side of asparagus. The chutney really made the salmon. It was superb, moist and flavorful. Salmon is easy to overcook, and most places locally end up drying it out. Not here. No sir. But OMGEEEE, the wife's dish was something else. I had eaten Mofongo before. Authentic, Puerto Rican Mofongo, at that. This was every bit as good. It was like being there, in someone's home, and they cooked it for you personally. It was a special plate of food. I get the feeling that most everything on this menu will knock you off your feet, and I can't wait to try more that Brisas has to offer. We will be back VERY soon. read more

Spoiled Meats with No Retreat!....I ordered the Pollo En Crema De Ajo. I took one bite and noticed the chicken tasted old and spoiled. I requested a different dish, but was told I could not send it back just because it tasted terrible and there had to be something wrong with it to send it back. Well that's a shame because this seems inconsistent with the other reviews and I was looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner. Instead I received a horrible slice of southern hospitality along with a spoiled slice of chicken. The one star was not simply for the food (though horrible), but their unwillingness to make it right. For this reason I advise you avoid this place and hit up the local KFC or gas station for a protein shake and bag of chips. It was really that bad and sad. I try to support local small businesses during my travels, but this experience gives me massive pause for future. Paid for the full meal, still tipped the server 33%, and left right after sending this post. Maybe they will treat future patrons a little better. WORST EXPERIENCE IN A LONG TIME.i Maybe you'll have better luck, but I would not risk it. ......... I recieved a response from the restaurant to my review stating I ate most the food and never said anything about the food not tasting right. Both these statements are false. I had one bite of the chicken one bite of the mashed potatoes. They sent me a photo showing more eaten from the plate than I left. VERY DISHONEST! SHAME ON YOU!
