I really enjoyed my experience at D Chill Spot! The food was amazing, fresh, and came out quickly, and the amount of food you get for the price was impressive. For under $20, I was able to get three different flavors of chicken: curry, brown stew, and jerk, along with rice and peas and cabbage. I added plantains and coco bread for an additional charge, plus a sorrel drink to complement everything. It was a great way to try several different flavors without having to choose just one. The service stood out just as much as the food. The staff was friendly, helpful, and took the time to explain the different dishes. I also mentioned my food allergies, and they were very attentive about making sure I wasn't served anything containing my allergens. I really appreciated that level of care. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable, so I was able to sit back and enjoy the experience rather than feeling rushed. After eating, we headed over to D Chill Outpost, their market, which was another experience on its own. There was a large selection of Jamaican and other imported products, including spices, fresh fruits, herbs, drinks, pantry items, and plenty of things I hadn't seen before. I enjoyed just walking around and discovering what they carried. Great food, generous portions, friendly service, and then a market to explore afterward. I'll definitely be back. read more

August 6, 2024 - Hurricane/TS Debby caused us to stop early driving from NY/LI to Venice FL. Popped in here for a bite. REALLY friendly counter service and the folks having dinner there were also a blast! My wife got the Ox Tail and vegetables, and I got a vegetable medley of collards, cabbage, beans and rice, a few tomatoes, and plantains. the cabbage was VERY VERY VERY salty, I might hope and error in the kitchen. The collards were nice and the plantain crisp on the outside but not dried out or hard on the inside...... tasty! Great service, pretty clean spot and the kitchen service area looked tidy and clean. Give it a go!!! read more

I wrote a POSITIVE review concerning this restaurant on Google in June of this year. I just read the owner's response to my review. The owner's response proved me correct concerning the staff not being "engaging" and lacking good customer service. The owner's response, which I've attached, demonstrated that the young lady who took my order was a product of her environment. The vast majority of my review was actually in favor of the restaurant, and in my review, I recommended that people go there because the food is good. The owner's response to my review gave me pause because he/she felt I needed therapy because the customer service wasn't good. By the way, I was the ONLY person at the counter, and no one else was behind me. There was no line. When you speak to a person, and they don't speak back, and they're trying to take your order while texting on their phone simultaneously, it isn't good customer service, but the owner felt I needed a therapist. If I were that business owner and read that review, I would've apologized to the customer and spoken with my staff about the importance of representing the business well. After all, it's the customers who are responsible for you staying in business. It's just unacceptable. While I gave this restaurant on Google 4 stars, I gave it 1 star here because of the owner's response. How could you be rude on a review that COMPLIMENTED your business and recommended viewers go there? Make that make sense. It's obvious I've been to every location their establishment has leased and only gave my observation per the owner's comment about their parking lot having more spaces at the new location. I will never go back there, and I do my best to support black-owned businesses because it's a little harder for our people to prosper in business, but I will never return to this establishment. read more

The staff was very nice and helpful. The menu was flashing on the board so fast we couldn't really read it. Then the music was up loud. I got ackee and saltfish, it was extra oily I didn't taste any saltfish. I also got callaloo, it was okay. My sister got fried chicken wings and chicken tenders. The fried chicken and tenders were cooked fresh. The fried chicken doesn't taste the way it smells. I asked for pineapple juice and they tried to give me pineapple soda, it is not the same. The chicken tenders were very good, from what they said. I personally have a stomachache from the oily ackee and callaloo, not a fun night smh. read more

My 1st time trying Caribbean food and boyyyy was I blown away! It was delicious!! Flavors were very rich and portion sizes were generous. My husband had the jerk wings and I enjoyed the ox tails. Every piece of meat was fall of the bone and tender. I highly recommend sharing! Just a heads up though- if you are shy to spice, the jerk wings DO have a kick. Strange to say but... the plantains were my favorite part of the meal. Everything was wonderful but those plantains were cooked to PERFECTION. You can't really get that anywhere else. Pair the savory goodness of Caribbean chicken with a can of mango drink and you are set for a beautiful date night. We will definitely be back. :) read more

In Rocky Mount for basketball (I mean who comes here for anything else) and this spot was recommended by a friend. It was walkable from the gym so we made our way over. We ordered at the bar/counter. The woman taking our order was patient and answered our questions and even made some suggestions. We sat and waited for our food. The music was LOUD but great. No frills restaurant and bar area but was clean and had an island vibe. Our food took a bit but the friendly chef/owner came out and confirmed our order and assured us it would be out shortly. A few moments later white styrofoam to go boxes came out overflowing with piping hot mounds of food! We tried the following: Curry chicken patty: So good. Flakey crust full of well seasoned curry chicken. A combo shrimp platter with both curry and jerk shrimp. The BOMB! Included well seasoned peppers, onions and carrots over peas and rice and cabbage. Oh and a side of perfectly cooked plantains too! Mouth watering and sooooo much food! Curry chicken platter with rice and peas and Mac n cheese. Another hit. Flavorful and tender fall off the bone chicken. Just the right amount of heat too. Hot gooey Mac was great too! Jerk chicken platter with rice and peas and Mac n cheese. Another hit! Spicy tender fall of the bone chicken loaded with flavor and a nice compliment to the rice and peas and Mac. Great service and even better food! If you are in the area go... and even if you are not in the area it is worth the drive! We will be back! read more

Hubby and I went to DChill Spot for some oxtails. This was our first visit to this Jamaican restuarant... Portions were really good and the seasoning just right! We enjoyed the chill vibe with the gentleman behind the bar. We had a pleasant chat while we waited on our meal to go. Based on the customers that came in after us, you could tell that they were regulars because the manager already knew their favorites. I though that was so cool! Great customer service and great food goes a long way in my book so we'll be back. read more

I visit regularly when I'm visiting my hometown. The food is great. I have always had a great experience but some of my family members think the staff is rude. I think it's a cultural thing. Was in town for work and decided to bring some home. this is the best Jamaican food in the entire state of NC. Oxtail tender and delicious. Jerk chicken perfect level of spice and seasoning. Had a great meal here for lunch today! The jerk chicken was amazing! Well seasoned and a real good amount of spice! Keep in mind that I like it real spicy so probably not for the faint at heart. The rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains were all cooked to perfection! I'm here for work from Delaware so it was a roll of the dice and I got a seven! Best decision I made all week. I ordered enough food to get me through my entire trip, but if I happen to overindulge, I'll be back during this trip. The ambiance was perfect as I felt like I was back on the island. Been to Jamaica a few time and they did a great job creating it right here to Rocky Mount! The service was excellent as they kept the Jamaica experience going. The chef came out of the back to ensure that everyone was enjoying the food which I secretly believe he knew we were! Anytime and I mean anytime I'm back in the area, I'll be heading right back to D Chill Spot! read more

Great little place. All of the staff and I believe the owner assisted us at the counter were very friendly. There was a small line at the counter where we ordered but it went quick with a short wait for the hot food to be ready. We all got something different, please see pics. The only mild disappointment I had was on the flavor of the oxtail. I feel it lacked a bit compared the Jamaican place in Winston Salem. The jerk wings on the other hand were delicious and full of great flavor. Definitely a place to stop by and enjoy great food and friendly people. read more

I was in the mood for some good oxtails and these surely hit the spot. Visiting Rocky mt for a few days and while there's not too many good looking good choices on yelp/Google, D Chill Spot reviews seemed good and consistent. Nice chill vibe restaurant with friendly staff. I visited on 2/3/23 and ordered large oxtails to go($24)and a drink while i waited. I waited at the bar and everyone from FOH & BOH employees humbly greeted me. Nice feels. Food was amazing and still hot by the time i got back to my hotel. It's fresh for sure. I was really hoping this would be great but it didn't make that high. The rice and cabbage was good but stay away from the oxtails They appear larger than other restaurants but they were so full of fat and very little flavor. I ordered rum punch but it tasted more like dish detergent. The service was fast but the young lady at the counter didn't smile or seem to care about taking my order. We cleaned off our own table while another female worker stood and watched Note she was walking around on the phone and very intimidating with a gun on her hip. Wonder if she was even properly trained to use it since she was obviously not trained in customer service. Place is large but very empty. Wouldn't visit there again read more

I visit Rocky Mount Event Center often for basketball, and this was my go-to spot in between or after games. I went for dinner last night and encountered my first issue with this establishment. I had stew chicken and my son had curry goat. My son had a hair in his meal, and the owner refused to provide a refund, insinuating my son was lying and I didn't want to pay for my meal. As he stated in his establishment, "the customer isn't always right". Granted, my son did eat half his meal before pulling the hair out his mouth off the goat bone, but anyone willing to use a little logic and reasoning would see it wasn't my son's hair. The length, texture, and curl pattern didn't match. Unfortunately the owner was extremely defensive and I'll have to find a new place to eat near the Event Center. read more

The food here was outstanding. The staff is very helpful and nice. They could turn down the music a bit though which is why I'm giving this place 4 star instead of 5. I felt like I was at a Reggae Concert. I like all types of music so this isn't bashing the type of music that was playing this is simply pointing out that the music was too loud for me and the person I was there with so it wasn't just me. Overall I would absolutely eat here again and would recommend it just be prepared for some loud music. read more

Love Love Love D and his family! We stumbled into here and it's now on our list of "must go to spots". We ordered a little bit of everything from the menu and every dish was delicious, and it's obvious how much love goes into making every dish. Definitely get the ox tail and the snapper, and if you have room the jerk chicken, curry chicken, and Ackee & saltfish are solid. Whether you love Jamaican food or it's your first time having it, this place will satisfy everyone. Looking forward to seeing all of you when we're back in town - THANKS D!! read more

This is my first time eating here but getting it togo. this place is very unprofessional, they have like a 10 year old at the front taking orders in which she barley understands what is being asked, so i got rung up wrong unfortunately, there are kids running around the place throwing balls in which it is hitting the customers, not to mention, we're still in a pandemic and none of the workers have on masks. Overall, the food is good but i wouldn't honestly come back. read more

While on a business trip to Rocky Mount I came up this awesome place. I like to go unique and non-chain restaurants while I travel and this one hits the spot! It was a nice relaxing vibe as you enter with music playing in the background. The man running the front was really helpful and friendly. I asked him if he had a recommendation for my first jamaican food experience. He recommended the brown stew. Oh my goodness it was absolutely amazing. I got a ginormous plate of food, i maybe ate 1/3rd of it before taking the rest home for leftovers. The chicken fell right off the bone, you could tell it was cooked for a very long time with some amazing spices. The rice was flavorful and and the cabbage was delightful. I will definitely come back to this place. read more
