The Covid-19 pandemic has made me appreciate take-out and delivery more than usual times ... and in trying to mix up the cooking at home with some more regular places on the rotation, I decided to give Run-A Boat a shot on a recent weekend evening. I went with the an order of Oxtail mega meal which comes with 3 sides. Rice, plantains and cabbage. I also wanted some Caribbean drinks and I went with Guava Fusion & Mango Island. The other reviewers were not lying when they say that portions are large, especially the mega. The food was so flavorful and I was so hungry, that I managed to eat pretty much all of the above with few leftovers! My bestie and I came here for lunch after arriving in the shopping center and realizing that Anachalee was closed because DUH it was Monday. We'd been wanting to try Run-A-Boat so we made today the day. We walked in and we were warmly greeted by the lady behind the counter. My bestie ordered first, the lunch portion of the oxtail with peas and rice plantains. I wanted a veggie patty, but they were out (BUMMER). So instead opted for the veggie plate, with rice and peas, plantains and cabbage. Everything we ordered came off of the steam table, all as a huge cauldron of oxtail was cooking on the stove behind the counter. A sight to behold! We ordered a Tropical Rhythms pineapple and ginger juice. The portions were healthy and we were both excited to dig in (Luckily, my bestie managed to capture a video the Yelpers, I was too hungry...‍) The food was excellent, everything was perfectly cooked. The rice and peas were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of coconut milk, the cabbage was fresh and crisp (though it could've used a bit more salt) and the plantains were perfectly sweet and caramelized. The star of the show (though not on my plate...couldn't resist a taste...) were the OXTAILS!!! Absolutely fabulous. Cooked perfectly, fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy. Our lunch set us back $22. Not bad considering that the oxtail portion was sizable. We left full and happy and excited to try them again and to bring some friends. Looking forward to trying that veggie patty when I return. This place has a great little shop with some Jamaican products in it (mackerel, ackee, boula, and other delicacies). Now if I could get Ackee and Saltfish with fried dumpling OR banana porridge on the menu (at least on Saturday mornings) then all would be right in the world. (**hint-hint, wink**) read more

I've eaten here a bunch of times and never had any issues until today, i arrived at 1:58 pm and ordered the lunch special , i told her i wanted the lunch special and she asked what 2 sides. They have a really good portion of their chicken lunch special for $5. The food is good but it seems like they are always out of SOMETHING. Last time I went they were out of cabbage and beef patties-- at 1 in the afternoon. And those are the two main reasons I went. I ordered curry chicken and I was given mostly bones and not too much actual chicken. Almost every bite I took had a bone or something else in it. The curry sauce itself was okay so was the cabbage and plantains I had as my sides, but the bones ruined it. Be weary! Although it did not taste authentic, the food is good! The food tasted more like an american version of Jamaican food. I am a native New Yorker with carribean parents. That being said, I got Jamerican stew chicken, rice and peas and mac n cheese. The chicken was tender and fall off the bone but had wayyy more browning sauce than I personally prefer. It made the carrots very dark. So dark that I couldn't tell what it was until I bit into it. The rice and peas had good flavor. Different but good. The mac n cheese wasn't baked but it was very, very tasty!! The chicken was missing that "cooked in" flavor. Like it wasn't left to marinate. The sauce was the flavor. It sauce paired well with the rice but again wayyy too much browning. Overall the food was decent. The price wasn't bad. A little over $20 for 2 plates is not bad at all.
