I really like this place. I go here for lunch maybe once a week. I usually get half a panini which is around $5 which is awesome for lunch and fills me up. The place is super cute with a wall of books that I guess is sort of a borrowing library. Pretty cool. The only negative I have are the soups. I live in NJ and my Aunt passed 2 weeks ago. I called Queen and spoke to a very helpful individual and she was able to help me create a beautiful sandwich platter with 2 sides dishes. I enjoyed lunch At Queens St Deli this afternoon prior to meeting with my attorney a couple doors down from the restaurant. This location is conveniently located downtown and across from the courthouse. The perfect location. The staff offered wonderful southern hospitality. Sarah greeted us upon arrival and provided recommendations on menu items. My mother was very undecided. Sarah recommended the Queens panini and I ordered the Queens Chicken salad and a tomato bisque. The lasagna here was amazing. It came out bubbling hot with layers of meat, cheese, and sauce that were all packed with flavor. You could tell it was homemade and not from a frozen tray. It had a really nice crusty edge and gooey middle, just how I like it. The staff was warm and welcoming from the minute we walked in. Interestingly enough these reduced hours are the same hours as are on the menus and table cards. I have news for you. This is an authentic deli with house made sandwiches and salads. Everything is house made: hummus, chicken salad, pimento cheese, egg salad, tuna salad .... You could eat there every day for weeks and not have to repeat a meal. Their fruit salad actually had fruit other than cantaloupe, pineapple, and honeydew melon! It also had strawberries, apples, and grapes. Lots of paninis on various breads with creative combinations. Our roasted vegetable panini on multi grain bread was delicious as well as our Chicken cordon Bleu panini on pumpernickel. Real chicken! What is interesting is that I loved this place for the reasons that Danarae W. did not. It is not kid friendly. Love that, especially on a work day when I want somewhere that is quiet, able to enjoy my coffee and pastry and get some work done. I did not have any issues with the wi-fi. Parking was on the street and the location is perfect, right on Queen Street, obviously. The staff was super sweet and helped me with some choices of cookies to take to my meeting for the folks I was going to meet with. They had several different kinds. I wish there were more baked good choices but I think it depends on when you arrive. This was a 10am visit so it may have been past the rush. Everyone in Kinston I have talked to is super stoked about this place because there is not a great bakery or coffee shop in town that you can feel comfy going in, getting work done AND has tasty goods! Due to my internet connection going out, I lost my beautiful review. :-( A few words... This establishment is not kid-friendly. I went here with my two toddlers to get a couple cookies and I felt highly uncomfortable and out of place. Plus there were no highchairs to be found. Go here with your friends. Or go alone. They have WiFI connectivity, parking and entrance in the rear, and the food and baked goods are for the health-conscious. Try being nice to the woman at the counter; maybe she will warm up a bit and be more pleasant for the next time I decide to go. This was my first time here; we went with a group for lunch on my birthday. The location is very convenient, with on-street parking as well as a big lot behind the building. The menu is quite varied, and there are two dining area. As with a typical deli, you order at the counter, and the food is brought to your table. The chicken salad was tasty, with cranberries and pecans, and the broccoli salad on the side was good, although just a little sweet for my taste. This was our first experience here on our usual trip back and forth to the coast. It was late morning and we were looking for a quick sandwich and iced tea. Both the egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches were excellent in all respects. The iced tea would make any Southern boy happy. My initial inclination was to order another sandwich and try to see if it was as good but alas reason to cold and I decided to do that on our trip through the year again. Maybe it's the construction going on Queen Street that has things confused but I can't figure out this place's hours. I've been there 3 times now only to find the door locked, the last time I could plainly see people inside eating. I first visited after reading a review online that piqued my interest but when I arrived at 8:20am there were only construction workers inside running a saw, & both front doors locked. The paper plate needed a little sprucing up - perhaps a twig of fresh grapes. Quiche was undercooked. Bottom crust soggy, outer crust undercooked. Whole thing cold.
