We had a wonderful experience today while visiting with family. We were seated promptly, and our server, Amy, was an absolute pleasure. We tried a new appetizer--the fried donut holes--and they were delicious. If that wasn't enough sweetness, the hot buttered syrup definitely took it over the top! Even though the restaurant was very busy for a Wednesday, Amy did an excellent job managing the floor. She made sure we had everything we needed and kept our coffee and water refilled without us ever having to ask. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we'll definitely be back! read more

I decided to return to Baker's Kitchen and must say this was a better experience. Baker's Kitchen is located inside a building built in 1911. Like a lot of older buildings, it was abandoned and then renovated for what you see today. They kept the 14-foot ceilings and left the brickwork exposed. My waitress this time was more experienced, so things went smoother. I decided to skip anything that would have the butter syrup and went with the avocado toast. I would have liked sourdough bread instead of wheat, but that wasn't an option, and it wasn't really toasted either. But the avocado was a good amount and tasty. I also had scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes. They put the eggs on the toast, though, instead of on the side. This seems to be the popular place in town for breakfast. read more

I honestly don't get the hype. An hour-long wait for food you could get in any diner. My gravy wasn't even hot. Also, any restaurant that sells merch has probably jumped the shark and is resting on its laurels. This place may have once been awesome, but it has the vibe of a cafeteria lunchroom and you can't be mediocre in both arenas. You either have to have impeccable food, or such a good view/vibe/locale that no one cares that the food is subpar. read more

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! When we told the server that we were from out of town and asked what butter syrup was, she brought us some samples and suggested we put it in our coffee. Delicious! We enjoyed our waffles and French toast with fresh fruit. The server also brought over a complimentary cinnamon roll in a bag to take home. Such a nice gesture! One of the best breakfast and brunch spots in New Bern! Somehow it had been over a year since our last visit and the menu was so much more extensive than I remembered. I had the Chicken and Waffles, which tasted amazing! Our server was helpful and attentive. Food was decent, at least my Wifes pot roast was good. I didnt care for the fried shrimp, obviously farm raised and rubbery. That being said, the service was the big issue. We were seated probably for at least 30 minutes.and during that time our waitress failed to refill our empty tea cups or even offer to or check on us for anything, not once. Eventually she stopped and asked if we needed boxes, but all we needed was refills to finish our food. I dont know how many times she passed our table and failed to notice, ask, or acknowledge us. I wanted to love this place so badly because of all the local hype, sadly it was not worth the wait. We waited over an hour for two people to be seated after being quoted 30 mins wait. When we were seated the waitress was unorganized and not much help with questions of the menu. The cinnamon bun was cut in half and toasted which was NOT listed on the menu so it turned out being way too hard to even eat it. The gravy and grits were flavorless. I met my friend here for breakfast when there was some sort of event going on in downtown New Bern. It was busy all around and they had a short wait for our table. The plan was to "eat healthy" and that went sideways when my brain was overruled by "chicken fried steak and eggs." A nice large piece of flattened chicken breast with plenty of gravy served with two eggs and a piece of toast. Along the way, plenty of coffee. My friend and I spent more than two hours here chatting and drinking way too much coffee. Our waiter was cool about it - there wasn't anyone waiting for a table at this point.
