There is little to no decoration at Sea Glass Cafe. It is basically in just a square-open room connected into a small shopping center. Despite of this, the people are great and they have some solid food!! They have a "make your own coffee" station. Unfortunately, the coffee was lukewarm at best. This tells me that the coffee had been sitting in those containers waiting to be poured for a while. We both ordered the kids/senior portion waffle, with bacon and eggs. They have great scrambled eggs (soft scrambled, not hard), and their bacon is pretty solid as well (kind of tough, though). Their waffles are Belgian-style, which means that they were generally a bit crisper on the outside, and soft on the inside. They are filling, and have solid flavor! Contrastively, their bathrooms are not the cleanest. But, in the end, their food is solid and is set at a good price, but needs more character in their restaurant! Where's the decoration? read more

Our original breakfast plans fell through, so we gave Sea Glass Cafe another try. That was a mistake. There was only one table occupied when we arrived, but the server was in no rush to wait on us. After finally ordering, our meals arrived promptly. My breakfast tacos were huge, but with virtually no sausage or flavor. I gave up after eating one of them. The hash browns were the highlight of the meal, but were so-so. My dining companion was not impressed with her huge omelet, but at least it had a generous portion of ham. My unsweet tea was clearly at least a day old, but came with a premium price of $3.49. According to the menu, my meal was supposed to come with hash browns but after paying I noticed that I had been charged an extra $4.99. This was not good and a poor value. read more

Yikes! We went for brunch on a Saturday morning at about 9:45am. There was a handwritten sign on the door that stated that due to having new hires the cafe would be closing at 11am. We deciders to risk it. We entered and were waiting to be seated (per the sign posted) and someone from behind the counter called out to tell us to sit at one of the two open 4 top tables. The server came out quickly to take drink orders and explain where the coffee self-serve area was. Overall the food was good, but there were several "misses" through our experience. They told us that the menu that was posted on line had been changed "a long time ago". They told us they did not have butter, just the very weary-looking whipped vegetable oil packets. They struggled to have our orders out to us at the same time. They forgot to bring an order of orange juice until we were well into our breakfast. The eggs Benedict was the best item we tried. Such a cute space. Very much old diner feel with the two color tile flooring and diner chairs. The works are nice and courteous. Friendly and acknowledged each person entering. This is a great little breakfast and brunch spot in New Bern. Typical greasy spoon diner offerings including eggs and pancakes. I got the traditional eggs Benedict and it was delicious. They have several kinds of Benedict including a vegetarian and a crab version. They even have a Seniors' special section of the menu which 55 and older can order from for smaller portions thus cheaper pricing. Great little spot if you're craving breakfasty foods! Had the potential to have more than one star if I had even gotten served. I called an hour before a close and showed up 15 minutes later (45 minutes before close) ensured it's okay to come in. This was our last day in New Bern. The last day of our vacation and we wanted to end with a bang. The day previous we had an amazing French Toast in downtown New Bern at Baker's Kitchen. So we wanted to explore the area as we left. This place started with great reviews (for reasons unknown). We arrived about 8:30 and they opened at 8 -- the place was already full which is typically a good sign. We were seated and told coffee is self-serve. Which is a cool idea but not much a guest can do when the coffee is empty and cold. When it comes to the menu. Let's hope you have an idea of EXACTLY what you want because most of it is scratched out. They emphasize a scratch made menu, I guess they meant that literally as nothing is available and literally scratched out with sharpie. Our server eventually came, we weren't quite ready and then she proceeded to take another tables order. I'm not even mad at her. She seemed to be the ONLY one working. For a busy Sunday breakfast you'd expect more. There was her and one woman serving the food. They were drowning with no shore in sight. The Sea Glass Cafe reminded me of a small diner. It is a very busy place and has a few tables outside. I wasn't exactly sure who my waitress was as all three took care of my needs and seemed to work together at all the tables. When I arrived I was warmly greeted and asked if it was my first time there and was told the benedicts were popular. The menu had a variety of options so makes it easy for everyone to find something they'd like to eat. I liked that many items could be customized with the toppings you wanted so was tempted to order one of those dishes. I went with the Veggie Benedict as it had avocado; tomato; mushrooms and spinach. What I didn't notice was that instead of poached eggs that I love with runny yolks it came with two scrambled egg whites. I will see next time if I can get two poached eggs next time as that would have made it perfect as I like the yolk. I look forward to dining here again. read more

My oh my...the portion sizes are generous and shareable! And can we talk about the creamy deliciousness of their cheese grits! I was so looking forward to trying the Sea Glass Benedict...I mean anything with crab has got to be yummy...but was disappointed in the amount of crabmeat. Unfortunately the service was less than stellar with only two wait staff during Saturday breakfast service. We had to wait for our order to be taken, silverware and butter to be provided. When we were ready to pay, staff was more concerned with busing tables than even acknowledging us at the cashier. Lastly, wait staff weren't wearing masks and the tables weren't spaced for social distancing. While this was our first experience at Sea Glass, I understand everyone has an off day. I took my daughter to this establishment for breakfast. There were actually a few tables open, as I've attempted to come here on a few earlier occasions, but it's always busy, and parking is hard to find in such a small lot. After we were seated, the hostess asked what we wanted to drink, brought our drinks, and stated that our waitress would be right with us. While we were waiting for our waitress, 2 more parties of 2 came in AFTER us, and was able to get their orders taken. Meanwhile, we've been waiting for over 10 minutes for our waitress. What a spectacular brekkie experience. Today was our first time at The Sea Glass Cafe as we are new to the area. The place is in a strip mall and is completely unpretentious.. It was packed to the hilt when we arrived and the folks kept coming. We did have a bit of a wait( about 25 minutes for the table and another 30 for our food) but boy was it worth it! We had what is in the photograph in addition to a short stack of pancakes that both my husband and I shared. I'll start with the pancakes- thick, light, fluffy, airy and the syrup is DELICIOUS.. I'm going to hazard a guess that the syrup is real ( not some standard dirty mass produced thickened sugar water that's been sitting on a shelf for months ) because the taste was delicious. The New Bern Benedict which I had was decadent. Poached eggs on a sausage patty and perfectly baked and tasting biscuit smothered in FRESH homemade hollandaise sauce was sublime. The hash browns were generous, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. My husband had the Traditional Eggs Benedict which he is still raving about. This place was well worth the wait and the price.. Samantha our server was lovely and took really good care of us and kept us updated throughout our wait. This was most certainly a dining pleasure and we will be back for sure. It has been a year since we last ate here. We refused to eat at a restaurant where they charge you 50 cents for a tiny side of salsa. That is poor customer service. We decided to try them again, and again was extra charged for items and a lack of willingness to compensate for a server's error in taking the order! Tiffany charged $3 for toast on my wife's order, even after we said that my wife would instead just eat the toast which came with my order as I wanted a waffle. They are extremely disorganized, my family and I ordered drinks and after nearly 30 minutes we still had not received the drinks. Five families arrived after us and they even began to get their food orders. We returned our menus to the front desk and nobody from the staff approached us to ask if everything was ok. My husband and I stopped at Seaglass for breakfast yesterday morning. I had the Denver omelet, and my husband had the burrito omelet. I would have had coffee, which they had signs everywhere about coffee. However, the coffee was in the thermos type dispensers you see at a gas station or cheap hotel. The creamer was powder. No thanks. When our food arrived, mine had a smell to it. Not a good one either. It was so rank I couldn't eat it. My toast left a gross film in my mouth.
